Ants

You will respect and condone Mean Sean!

While there are many Bugs in Free Country, USA, ants are given attention for reasons both irritating and comedic.

Appearances

  • Email 1 step ahead — In the "maybe" option, The Cheat brings a bucket full of red ants into Strong Sad's room after finding out that gluing his hands to his face hadn't caused Strong Sad any pain.
  • I think I have a chance with this guyWhat's Her Face sings that she wants to put some ants on the boy who called her.
  • Sensitive to Bees — At the end of the song, Homestar sings that he not only likes to play with trees, but also with ants.
  • Email long pants — Strong Bad edits the email he receives so the closing reads "Some ants toot", and laughs at it.
  • Email unnatural — Confronted with a giant Bubs, Homestar comes to the conclusion that Bubs has turned them all into ants and proceeds to act like one.

Strong Bad Making a Surprised Face At the End of an Easter Egg in Response to a Suggestive Comment

Strong Bad, like anyone, often looks surprised when he hears a suggestive comment, but he seems to specifically do so in the last frame of Easter eggs.

Appearances

  • Email garage sale — In response to Coach Z saying he is okay to say "gar-bahge", which implies he is or will be a mother.
  • Email space program — In response to Coach Z saying "doo time" is better than peeing in a cup.
  • Best Caper Ever — In response to Bubs suggesting that he, not The Cheat, fill up a container for bodily waste.

Depressing

The word "depressing" is frequently used out-of-context in the Homestar Runner body of work, usually in relation to Strong Sad and Coach Z.

Strong Sad

  • Yearbook Character Page — Strong Sad is referred to as a "depressing lump".
  • Email impression — Coach Z refers to what Strong Sad typically says as "depressing-type stuff".
  • A Folky Tale — The townsolk, overcome with laughter, suggest that Saddy Dumpington say something "miserable and depressing". He only makes them laugh harder.
  • Yahoo Store — The Strong Sad shirt is compared to "a gray and depressing Santa Claus".
  • Strong Badia the Free:
    • "Oh, great. Stuck under house arrest with no one but Little Lord FATleroy, the most depressing kid brother ever left on the front porch by gross gypsies."
    • "Only Strong Sad could make a flag both depressing and so utterly forgettable."
  • Marzipan's Ansering Machine Version 16.2:
    • Strong Sad changes Marzipan's outgoing message to, in part, "Please organize your thoughts for Marzipan in order of least depressing to most depressing."
    • Bubs thinks that Marzipan sounds "fat, depressing, and Allan Poe" with Strong Sad's voice.
  • FeedBurner Page — Strong Sad says of the Decemberween cards, "Now you can share in the wonder of writing something extremely dark and depressing inside and cheerful holiday card."
  • Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 17.2 — Strong Sad wonders why he isn't depressing anymore, then insults his former self as being "not depressing".
