Just a little hello
P.S. Just out of curiosity, why did you revert my edits on the HR Wiki article on wikipedia? (more) (16 April 2006)

[edit] Block'd?

Hey, I was just wondering why you blocked the anonny 68.39.230.211, when he'd only made three edits? Yes, he plugged the Sandbox with nonsensical links, but couldn't you have talked to him and asked him to stop it? I'm not sure if you did talk to him or not. If you didn't though, then 1 week was probably a little harsh. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 20:17, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Meh, maybe you're right. I was going primarily from this edit, and I thought that the anonny had been reverted three times and was being persistent with adding those links. I'll unblock for now. — It's dot com 20:44, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Whoops! Sorry if there was a misunderstanding. I was just fooling around and deleting some spam from the sandbox. The anonny wasn't spamming any other pages than the sandbox. Super Turtle Talk 21:51, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
No need to fear, Turtle, you acted correctly. Dotty just got a little carried away—which he rarely does, I might add, he does a bang-up job here and I'm personally proud of what he's accomplished—and made a premature judgement in absence of the facts. He fixed it, and all is well now, all is safe and sound. Sleep peacefully. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:10, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Dotty? Augh! Bleh! Ewww! Grugh! {suddenly sotto voce} No. Thanks as always to Qermaq for putting a bow on what was pretty much already wrapped up. ;) (Although I would recommend in the future not yelling in summaries if one is not trying to attract attention. But yeah, no big deal now.) — It's dot com 13:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Admit it, you kinda love it when I call you Dotty. ;) Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 23:41, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I think Dot Com should be quoting Dot Warner right about now: "Call me, Dotty and you die." wbwolf (t | ed) 00:30, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
"Yeah, you're probably right." Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 07:46, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
As long as this thread has gone completely off topic, I think I should mention that I always choose the names Yakko, Wakko, and Dot for the computer players when playing Hearts. — It's dot com 16:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Joshua

Okay, I know you have a fanstuff talk page. But this is serious. Joshua, the sysop, did something like blackmail. Now the forum is messed up and Super Sam blocked him. Can you please fix this mess? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 14:47, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I do believe that what is occurring is simply playful banter which Sam here has taken a bit too seriously. Everything is fine. Nothing is ruined. - Super Sam 05:37, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Edit conflict: Lies. All lies! Clearly I'm the only one who knows how it all went down. Joshua randomly bans Super Sam on the forum and then Super Sam screws around with the forum skin for revenge. Also I think Supra tried to block Joshua on the wiki but Joshua just unblocked himself. Just a spot of fun, no need to get all grumpy about it. I think it's pretty dang hilarious the way it's going down. --Shadow Scythe 05:39, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for stopping by, you guys. Thanks for breaking my cow lamp. — It's dot com 17:11, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] imagemap

Whoa, this is pretty awesome... great jorb! Trey56 13:13, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! I installed the feature back during the last upgrade (because the fanstuff kept pestering me to) but hadn't found a good use for it here at the knowledge base until now. — It's dot com 14:29, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] If you notice anything strange...

This may just be me being paranoid, but I just thought I'd let you know that MySpace told me I got phished and... I kinda had this thing going where I used the same password for everything... including my email, in which I saved an email to myself detailing how to log in to my account on this website...

So, if anybody does anything funny under my account, I just thought I should let someone with special authorities and privileges and whatnot know about it (although I have since changed my password). I might start a new account just in case, but I'm not sure yet how that'll work out.

Anyway... now you know. ~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 18:10, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Don't start a new account. Changing your password should be adequate. By the way, to add a section to a talk page, just click the little plus (+) next to the edit button. It will give you a place to enter the thread header and format it automatically. — It's dot com 18:14, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Jolly good. ~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 18:18, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Just the same, I think I'd like my username changed. (I've been thinking of ditching LuxAcerbus for a while now.) Sysops can do that, right? ~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 19:03, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Bureaucrats can, yes. See HRWiki:Changing username. — It's dot com 19:15, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the help, my good man. ~That Guy Over There (User talk:That Guy Over There) 23:57, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Forum Redirect

Since the HRWiki forum is down, alot of the regular users have taken refuge to http://www.inversetiger.com/forum/ . However, pretty much the only way for people on the forum to communicate to each other now is by email. Since barely anyone shows their email address, the last resort option is to communicate by editing your sig. Even then, most people don't go looking through a locked forum looking at people's sigs(which is where I found the link). The result: Only the regular users found link. So, I figured that it would be best if you posted some sort of link on the front page of the Wiki or something so people can find it. -strongfan

[edit] Fanstuff Purge: Wiki User Emails

There are currently a few Wiki User Emails on the list of fanstuffs to be saved, and it's been decided that this would be a great chance to get them over to the Wiki User Wiki. My question is whether it would be easier to use whatever fancy method you're using to transfer them across or whether it would be easier to just do it manually.
Cheers, Super Sam 19:39, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if this is the specific fancy way that DC's going to use, but if you want to transfer stuff, then the easy way is to go to HRFWiki:Special:Export, and put in all the page-names (one per line), and mash go. That'll give you an XML file that you can feed into Special:Import on WUW (you'll need to be sysop to use Special:Import, but Special:Export can usually be run by anyone). As well as being able to copy lots of pages in one hit, you can also (if you want) include each page's history, and all the templates they use. --phlip TC 22:47, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I concur with Phlip's suggestion. — It's dot com 18:45, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Alrighty, thanks for that. - Super Sam 14:53, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Looking at this, it appears a lot of the forum users have been giving you grief over the locked forum. I just would like to pause for a moment and say thank you. You have dealt with this matter professionally, and I would like to say that in your shoes, I would have done the same thing. Thank you for managing this problem well. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 01:22, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments. It remains to be seen whether splitting off the off-topic discussion from the H*R threads will be a good thing, but I'm hoping for the best. — It's dot com 19:35, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Greetings!!

Hi. I'm having trouble on my userpage. I have three images. I'd like to have one image (Homsar) in the center between the other two of the Cheat Commando's. How can I do this? See my userpage in my signature. --98.111.114.133 17:51, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Check out our various local help pages and the user's guide (see the sidebar under navigation and external links). Hope that helps. — It's dot com 19:33, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fanstuff wiki

Look, for some reson, my computer doesn't show the link. so can you help me out? 68.74.220.137 10:25, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

The address is fanstuff.hrwiki.org, same as it's ever been. — It's dot com 14:10, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Ummm... there's no more bar there. it completed. But nothing happened. It's just... the signup screen.
Also, I sent the email, but I didn't get a reply. TheThin 12:52, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Actually, you sent two emails. I only said you'd get a reply if it was necessary, and in your case it's not. The status bars only indicate that a certain step is done out of many. You'll know that the wiki is back up when it looks like a MediaWiki wiki. — It's dot com 19:46, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Okay, also, can you not do the purge in the next 3 hours? I have to go somewhere. TheThin 21:27, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Deal. Before I do it, I'll be sure to ask you if it's okay. — It's dot com 21:30, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

I already sent you my email. Should I post my new username on HRWiki:Changing username, or just wait? - The good...X On Fire (SSX)...And the good again. 00:56, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Sending the email is enough. I'll change usernames based on that. — It's dot com 02:13, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

So when will the new wiki be up?--‪‪‪X66x6615px-X66x66.png 18:54, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

When will the updates bar be back? -TheStick

Could you put the MediaWiki software on the fanstuff wiki and remove the signup page? Dagoth

Hey, Dot com, it has been like 3 weeks now. What gives? -AlmsforthePudgy 19:44, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Seriously, you guys. Stop pestering Dot com. He's doing his best, and he's working very hard for you. Yes, for you. Give him some credit. It's dot com is spending hours and hours (literally) of his spare time fixing the fanstuff wiki for you, and the last thing he needs (I'm sure of it) is someone poking him with a stick continuously, asking if he's done yet. So sit back and relax, give him some space, and when he's finally done, thank him very much for it. Loafing 13:05, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Okay, so, how long has it been now? A month? Two? TheThin 01:31, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Name Change

Could you change my user name to Raiku? Its going to be my last username ever. I am going to keep it. Raiku

[edit] Name Change, Too

I meant to name myself hremail24, not Hremail 22. Can you fix this malfunction, private?

You know, this is kind of like calling up a librarian at home asking them to renew a book for you. There are better ways. Green Helmet 14:17, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ops in #hrwiki-fanstuff

I hate to whine and complain like this, but please give someone ops in #hrwiki-fanstuff. It is impossible to control the channel. It doesn't have to be a fanstuff sysop, just someone easily accessible. Bluebry 17:42, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey man, we seem to have a few trolls in #hrwiki-fanstuff, Tom's not responding, you're not on, and we really need ops, so whenever you see this, please give someone ops. Bluebry 00:49, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Change Username

[edit] Can you do me a fanstuff-related favor?

[edit] Fanstuff wiki

Oh, I do wonder, let me tell you. If I had to guess based on the (depending on your point of view) clever or smart-aleck front page currently at fanstuff.hrwiki.org, I'd say sometime before or after TBC release Stinkoman Level 10. — It's dot com 01:25, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] thanks man.

What was that crap-for-brains doing? Being a freakin' vandal and everything? I owe it all to ya for helping my user page stay cool. Did you block him? --The 386 My talk 20:06, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

No prob, Bob. That guy shows up from time to time to do what he did. It doesn't usually take long to clean up. Yes, I did block him. — It's dot com 20:12, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Transcribing Permission

Sorry to interrupt, but I was just wondering if I could transcribe the toons at the Weeblpedia similar to the way we transcribe toons here. JCM 02:56, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Uh, yes? I don't really have any jurisdiction to give you permission. Our style is nothing special, and I suppose it could be used for any number of things. It may or may not be relevant, but some authors of works of fiction don't like their works being transcribed, so watch out for that. — It's dot com 05:19, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
OK, thanks. JCM 22:34, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Personal image templates

It's Dot Com, Your the admin I trust the most, and the only one I know actually. This page is in desperate need of an admin to look over the new suggested designs of the personal image templates, and to add to the talk page if you agree that we should/can change the personal image templates to the HR related ones, or not. Please do look into this. Thanks! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 17:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

That discussion is over two years old. As I said when it was current, I don't think we should change the templates, especially given I'm the one who made the versions we're using now. — It's dot com 03:35, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sig

Do you want a sig? If so, what do you want on it? Raiku 03:23, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

I already have one. It's right here: It's dot com 03:36, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
I mean like colored and stuff. The sig templates. Raiku 03:37, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
I know what you meant. I've been here nearly four years. If I wanted a fancy signature, I'd probably have one by now. — It's dot com 03:41, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
And, I know this topic is a month old, but it may be one of the best signatures on the wiki. I mean, it did start the &mdash craze. Did it? JCM 18:42, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Winter Background

Could you please add
body {
    font-size: 10px;
    font-family: verdana, geneva, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
    background: #EBEBEB url(skins/monobook/headbg-snow.png) 0 0 repeat-x;
}
to MediaWiki:Monobook.css? Thanks. Dagoth 06:25, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Oh right. I had a nagging feeling I had forgotten something. — It's dot com 20:18, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] HRFWiki:Template:Main Page/Fanstuff

What did that template look like? I created a temporary HRFWiki and need the Main Page/Fanstuff template to look like it did at the real HRFWiki. The URL for the temporary HRFWiki is http://homestar.referata.com. I also need a dump of all the templates and MediaWiki messages for it. Dagoth 00:19, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm not going to provide that, sorry. You need to use a different logo and stop hotlinking our images. — It's dot com 00:45, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
I removed your logo and images. Dagoth 01:22, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm still seeing the logo there. Yes, i cleared my cache. — Defender1031*Talk 14:48, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, it was gone, but it looks like it's back. -128.103.10.17 15:14, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Your logo and images are gone for reals this time. Dagoth 23:00, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Who's online

You guys need "WhosOnline", a special that can tell you whos online and what they are looking at. Can be used to quickly see when there is going to be spam. Elementio 18:58, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

From my old fanstuff talk page:

Check this out It's the recent changes page of The Mario Wiki. I made an account there, and I realized on the recent changes page, there's a little section for who's currently logged in. I figured I'd ask you if we could possibly make this a feature here. It would make things alot easier when trying to contact users and such. --TheDenzelTheDenzelsiglogo.gif 18:11, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
[...] This would indeed be interesting, but people shouldn't have their identities exposed just because they're browsing. Part of what a lot of people like about reading a wiki is that you're not publicly logged unless you edit. And there's the thing: one should be able to tell who's online well enough just by looking at the recent changes. — It's dot com 04:25, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Or do you mean something that only sysops and/or developers could see? If so, we already have enough behind-the-scenes access to handle our relatively minor spam load. Thanks though. — It's dot com 19:50, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

I mean that only registered users can see, and from my knowledge of it, noone EVER uses it but me, for some reason on the other wikis I go on. It would just help alot. Elementio 19:55, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, like I said last year, I don't think that information should be available to just anyone who happens to have an account. There's almost no reason (if any) to look over someone's shoulder if they're merely reading articles. — It's dot com 20:03, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
However, it can help if they are about to troll. Elementio 20:04, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
It would be nearly impossible to tell whether someone was about to vandalize based solely on what they're looking at. Even if it were possible, the vigilance required to make the extension effective would be prohibitively time-consuming. Considering the low volume of bad-faith edits we have to deal with and how easy it is to clean up pages after the fact, we simply don't have the need for an early-warning system. — It's dot com 20:18, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hey, something to bring your attention to

Adventure Classic Gaming recently had an interview with the Brothers Chaps and the designers of their episodic adventure game series at TellTale, not sure how you usually feature new content related to the brothers chaps but figured you might not have seen it yet, it isn't on the interviews page at least: [1] -MarkN

It's actually on the SBCG4AP page, under Promotional Media. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 23:43, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sensitive to Bees

Thanks so much for agreeeing with my statements, It's dot com! I knew someone would believe me if I posted the edit there! The second video was just my proof to make sure there wouldn't be that much of a conflict, but if that's what made you believe me, I'm glad I made it! So thanks again!

-MarioMaster2008

P.S. Speaking of which, why did you think I went overboard trying to prove my point with the video?

I wouldn't say so. People have gone crazy before proving their point. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 06:12, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Maybe so, but if you look on the talk page for the article in question, you'll see that It's Dot Com himself said I surpassed him in levels of proving my point. -MarioMaster2008
The above link to that template talk page has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. I'm referring to people posting evidence they gather to try and answer a question of fact regarding something in one of the toons. I'm not saying I don't go overboard (my illustrations on Homestar's spinning buzzer are just the latest example), but I think making a whole YouTube video trumps anything I've done. So far. By the way, MarioMaster, to sign your name, just type four tildes, like this: ~~~~, and the system will automatically insert your name and a timestamp, like this: It's dot com 16:10, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect pages

Hi there It's Dot Com, hope you don't mind me asking something. I was trying to create a redirect from Coach Z's 110 percent to Coach Z's 110%, but it doesn't work as an actual redirect. How do you create a redirect page, and how is it different from a normal one? Thanks! —Guard Duck talk 01:02, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Note, it won't act like a redirect in the preview, you have to save it. And the syntax is "#REDIRECT [[Pagename]]". And this is probably the wrong place to ask this kind of question. — Defender1031*Talk 01:05, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh, so that's what happened, I only saw it in the preview. Sorry for bothering you, is there a better place for questions like that? —Guard Duck talk 01:08, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
You can ask me on my talk page, i don't get annoyed by technical questions, but the best place is probably the talk for one of the help pages or something... — Defender1031*Talk 01:11, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
HRWiki talk:FAQ is actually the place we've set aside for questions. If a discussion needs to be on a more specific page, it can be referred to the other page from there. And it is true that a question on any central or highly visible public talk page will likely be answered. Similarly, while I'm not encouraging you to post on any one user's talk page, you could do worse than this one. It's watched by a good number of users, and I have a whole section of the page devoted to technical issues. — It's dot com 02:58, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Blanking the sandbox

Hey, um, are you trying to make fun of me? That userbox, Um, NOT FREAKIN FUNNY! If you need to tell me something, tell me in my Talk page.--Record307

Strictly speaking, yes, I am making fun, but I'm not trying to be mean. I just think it's funny that you've blanked the sandbox once a day every day for the past 11 days (except the 9th (when you did it twice) and the 15th (which you missed)). I myself blank the sandbox on occasion, but not like clockwork. Generally speaking, having a blank or non-blank sandbox makes no difference, and so I find it interesting that you've kept it up. But I'm just teasing, not trying to be offensive. :) (By the way, if it's not obvious, the icon there is a blank sandbox.) Cheers. — It's dot com 01:42, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Oh, sorry. Y'know what? I'm gonna use the userbox you made. Can you do me a favor? My userboxes scroll But they mess up my page. I want it to blend in with the pictures on my userpage. Can you do that for me? Thanks!---Record307

I adjusted the width of your email box. Did that fix what you were talking about? Oh, by the way, to sign your name, just type four tildes, like this: ~~~~, and the system will automatically insert your name and a timestamp, like this: It's dot com 14:03, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Hey It's dot com, how's it hanging?

I've been good, nearly done hiugh school, which leaves me to my first question:

I'll be leaving Homestar Runner wiki, temporarily, for school reasons. Anyhow, can someone you tell me where i can find a banner template to place on my wikipage saying I'll be off wiki for a while?

Thanks a bunch.

Nikolce Kocovski 07:59, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Wow, Nikolce, long time no hear from. We don't really have a template for that kind of thing, but you can make a banner by taking some code from one of our other templates and putting it on your page. Then you can update the message to suit whatever you need it to say. I'm curious how long a while is (your last edit was last April, which is what I'd consider a while). — It's dot com 11:42, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Whoa, April, man school's been taking my time man. As well as school, sometimes my internets gets capped, meaning it becomes slow, and when it comes to wikis, they don;t load up.

Thanks for the help again.

[edit] Thanks for Your Assistance

Thanks for your assistance in the most recent vandal attack. Been a while since the last one, eh? Well, we all appreciate your ability to hide those edits from RC, as no one wants to read that. Also, good job getting the one everyone else overlooked--myself included. We really couldn't keep this place going without you. --DorianGray 03:41, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Invisible arms

When you said it was NOT better... I'm not gonna lie to you. It IS better. PLEASE, don't block me! --The 386 My talk 00:29, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Block you? You're wrong though. We consistently treat scenes as though the characters have normal arms and/or fingers (regardless of what's "really" the case) and are directly manipulating objects. In other words, we say that Homestar is picking up an object (and don't worry about how), not that it mysteriously starts floating. — It's dot com 00:37, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
I just DON'T want my edits reverted. The INVISIBLE arms show that these objects float in mid-air. I don't mean to sound rude. --The 386 My talk 00:31, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, but that's not our standard. We know that the objects appear to be floating, but that's not how we describe them. — It's dot com 00:37, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] When will the fanstuff wiki be back?

Hey Dot Com, when will the fanstuff wiki be back? Raiku 04:34, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Possible Trolls/Vandals

Hello, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I didn't know where to put it.

On the recent changes page, there seems to be a large number of accounts being made. normally if it was 1 or 2 I wouldn't notice, but there's been 8 in the last 5 minutes. I think it might be a troll or vandal. BubbleRevolution 01:11, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, this is the wrong place to put this, but these accounts are all being made by the same person, because they all are common names (all having something to do with the Eragon series, I have read the books), except maybe User:Sbe-Mail Checker Dan, he's probably a coincidence. Also, you probably shouldn't use the word TROLL or VANDAL yet, since the user(s) haven't made any edits yet, and might not know about the sockpuppet rule. Can someone go talk to him/her? I'm not sure how to do this. free 01:17, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] My Weight in Pencil Shavings

How much does a page on the wiki usually cost? Espemon333 22:36, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Um, I don't know what that means... And you still smell like pea soooup! By the way, the reason you triple post is that my page is long and so it takes a bit of time to load and you get impatient and hit "Save page" three times. Only hit it once. The reason we are having the fundraiser... the pages cost money... right..? Espemon333 23:34, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
In a sense, yes, I guess. The pages are stored in a database, which is located on a hard drive, which is part of a server, and it takes money for us to be hosted on that server. See our donations and ledger pages if you want specific information. — It's dot com 23:48, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] A Probably Bad Good Idea

We all know about the decomisionning of STUFF, which I do support, but I reviewed your new version of the STUFF template and I loved it. I think we need to incorperate that template INTO the talk page. It looked great, and I liked how it condenses the entire discussion into the smallest portions. I really think we should get it into the talk page. Espemon333 03:09, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

The "new" version of the STUFF template is what we used for years, and what we decommissioned. We decided to stop using the STUFF format in favor of regular discussions. We don't have any plans to reincorporate it at this time. — It's dot com 03:35, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Another Fanstuff Thing

I don't mean to kill the already several dead horses about this topic, but I don't think the sysops are going to fix the Fanstuff Wiki. I know you have a life, n'stuff, but we want some stuff done. I don't care if you do half a page a day. Any progress is good progress. And if your schedule doesn't allow for any Fan-Wiki work, then get people that will accualy work. The regular people word be WAY more willing, and more faster, to fix these unfinished pages. In short, I hope you take some time to work on the Fan-Wiki, get better workers, and always, ALWAYS edit blank pages. User:Anonomous

[edit] Why do you still do this?

Why do you still do this? You're managing the same website you did three years ago, and still for no reason. You're thirty three years old! You don't think that maybe it's time to start a family? To take care of your wife or something? Take a page from me and stop going here. The "friends" you make won't miss you, they'll just drown their sorrows in computer code. Please, just stop this whole thing.

It's a hobby and I like it. In the last five (not three) years I've learned a lot of things about teamwork, management, critical thinking, and software development. Things I can carry over into my professional life. Plus it's fun, interesting, and challenging, I still think Homestar Runner is funny, and there's nothing what says you can't have a hobby and still pursue other things like work and family. By the way, if you're going to break your streak of not "going here" just to insult me, at least have the stones to sign your real name. — It's dot com 21:04, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the purge!

Hi Dot Com. I was just passing by to tell you that I, for one, am most delighted about how the purge took over 500 days. Without the purge, I'd still be dwelling on the Fanstuff Wiki with not much else to do, but since its absence, I've pursued other hobbies and personal projects, which most probably wouldn't have happened if the Fanstuff Wiki was still around. For example, since it went down with the purge, I've started to learn more about programming and website creation, not to mention polishing up my English skills and discovering my humble abilities as an amateur musician. That's really all I have to say. And again, thank you. No this contains no sarcasm whatsoever. -20eric06 02:07, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey. Looking at the history of this guy, it seems him and User:Homsar Jean are one and the same. Since this is not a sockpuppet problem, what do you think should be done? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 04:20, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Probably nothing. He seems to have made one account and used it only briefly before switching to a new one. Yes, it would be better to have asked for a name change instead, but what's done is done. Used to I might merge the accounts, but it's a bit of a hassle and I don't think I'll bother unless he specifically requests it. As long as he doesn't use both accounts, it's not a big deal. — It's dot com 05:14, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Could you help with my account?

Sorry to bug you! During the Fanstuff purge I asked to change my username from Chituze to Happy: now it says I've got the wrong password, and I don't receive the verification email. I'm absolutely positive I've been typing the password right, because I use the same one everywhere. Are you able to find my password for me, or maybe allocate happypants3@hotmail to the account? Thanks so much in advance!
Also I'm so scared about how professional your talk page is, I hope I've put this in the right place. - 222.154.8.224

Well, that's a bit of bad luck, I'm afraid. The reason the password won't work is that someone else already has the name Happy. (The fanstuff and the knowledge base now share the same user list, and the Happy account was created here back in 2004.) You'll need to create a new account with a different name. You can choose Chituze or HappyPants or something else. — It's dot com 15:25, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
OH, RIGHT. Dang, somehow that never crossed my mind. Now I feel bad because I've sent about 4 verification emails to them.
(Ack, what if during the purge I got an email about this, but it went to junk? Whoops, sorry, just thinking aloud here.) Thanks for your help! - 222.154.16.62

[edit] Regarding Mirror Glitch

Hey, man. I just went over the articles for cleanup and saw Scroll Button Songs. The article looked OK and I went over the last few talk page posts to see why it should be cleaned up. I saw no problem, and I was just about to remove the template, when I decided to dig in the history a little and came across this edit from almost exactly a year ago. That discussion started two and a half years ago, and the article has been in "cleanup" ever since. Is that REALLY such a big of an issue? I mean, it looks like some technical thing to fix that should not bother the casual reader. I didn't even notice the email list on the mirrors after I read the talk page. I just listened to the songs. What I'm suggesting is to remove the template and you'll just fix whatever you need to fix whenever you got the time, since the article itself is fine. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:41, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure why you're asking me. I already removed that cleanup template once, and I didn't make the edit you linked to. The same user who made that edit is the one who put the template back. — It's dot com 17:33, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Ah! I see I hadn't dug deep enough in the history... I contacted you because you're involved in that talk page discussion. Oh well. I agree with you - There shouldn't be a template there. I'm removing it. Thanks for sorting this up :). Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:48, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

It's not like you can't still talk to each other. I didn't close the Internet, or even IRC. If you want to have your own channel, then make it, post the location on your forum, and then go there. Anything with the "hrwiki" name on it means one of our admins has to keep an eye on it. We don't want to do that anymore. Closing #hrwiki-fanstuff solves the problem. It's win-win in the long run. — It's dot com 19:11, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

well, you caught my attention with the chat on Super Sam's talk on the fanstuff wiki, and i didn't get to put my idea in before you locked it out. i figure this is as relevant a topic as any. if the sysops and moderators are the problem, why don't you get some new ones over there? i don't think this is worth closing that wiki. I'm sure there's a lot of people that would be capable enough to run that wiki that update frequently enough to care. I'm not saying it's me, i haven't done anything on either for over a year besides now, but I'm sure there are people that care about the fanstuff wiki as much as you care about the knowledge base. and i don't believe either site deserves to die just for lack of usage after the purge. a lot of the users just said "screw it" after waiting so long for it to come back, it seems unfair to close it for good before there's time to get more people interested again.

I'm sad they didn't win it all, but I'm not really that disappointed. In fact, I'm very proud of how they did this season. Winning the pennant, especially when you never have before, is still a big deal. There are still two teams (Mariners and Expos/Nationals) that never have. The fact that the Rangers advanced to the World Series by completely taking apart the Yankees just made it all the sweeter. (Take that, Tom!) :) — It's dot com 20:14, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

[edit] New Logo

Did you make that? What a great idea! Homestar-Winner (talk) 03:11, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Actually, the idea came from the annony of this Main Page discussion, who was concerned about the bandwidth being sucked up by that giant, 1 MB GIF. That is some epic decompiler work you did there, Dot Com! I've always wondered how you got Homestar in the logo like that, and I enjoy the little Easter Egg. The addition of Flash detection is also very nice. Except I'm not that big of a fan of the lost Decemberween colors, but it adds consistency and balances the page, in my opinion. Also, you might want to remove the special no-click treatment for the 'flakes. It's making my cursor spazz-out. Anyway, great work! Now everything is tiny. Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 04:16, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, to be fair, all he said was that we should make it into a SWF, which is an idea that I had years ago but had never taken the time to implement. So really he just nudged me into going ahead and doing it. Redrawing the logo GIF as a vector format, designing the snowflakes, coding their motion (notice that they never repeat), and adding hidden extras were all me. Anyways, thanks! — It's dot com 06:17, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Aforementioned annony here, nice work on the swf! I'm a flash animator myself and I would have made it if you had said something "well why don't you make it yourself if you're so concerned" :P --184.56.45.155 06:51, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Nah, it's cool. I enjoyed the practice, and given the various issues regarding SWFs and security, etc., it's the kind of project I'd prefer to do start to finish myself if at all possible. Glad you like it! — It's dot com 08:28, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
It all turned out great, especially now that it has the Decemberween colors. Good job Dot Com for making it and 184.56.45.155 for getting Dot Com off his lazy bum. Homestar-Winner (talk) 16:11, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm really impressed! Good job! I love the dween logo and the new years one too. I guess you're going to turn them all into SWF files now eh? Like the idea of little easter eggs in the future like with the dween one haha. Can't wait to see other holidays (especially Halloween) in the future. Maybe for Halloween you could make it where clicking on Homestar would change his costume or something in the logo, that's a good idea. I know Halloween is a long ways off though haha.Image:Stinkwing.gif »Bleed0range«

[edit] HRWiki celebrates New Year's with a logo

(This was made on 1/1/11 so don't say "I don't see it") Hey, I just like to comment the new years logo. I like how after a few seconds Homestar blows a party blower and confetti falls. It really caught my eye. I thought I saw something on the logo other (of course other than Homestar blinking every 3 seconds) and I waited a few seconds and I saw Homestar blowin' a party blower and confetti falling from Hammerspace!. It's a great way to celebrate 2011! Pgj1997 (Talk page · things I've done)

Ahhh I see, your supposed to click on it, then Homestar will say "Happy New Year" then he'll blow a party blower while confetti falls from Hammerspace I see now. Pgj1997
Right now it looks like it toggles between homestar, marzipan, and strong bad wearing winter hats or earmuffs. eventually, homestar turns into a Special:Random type link. but i can't figure out if there's a set number of clicks for that to happen. The Knights Who Say Ni 01:53, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

...yes, i am well aware of that. there was a small piece that i omitted from the previous post b/c i thought it was overkill, but it looks like i had to invisicomment it back in. i was asking about the random page thing - if that was an intentional Easter egg. (Though I can't help but wonder if I shouldn't already have figured that one out myself... *sigh* Oh well...) --Neumannz 02:24, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

We're using the SWFObject method of adding SWF files to pages, which seems to work well across many browsers while also being compatible with devices with no Flash support. It requires placing swfobject.js on your server in addition to your SWF logo. (Note: we're using version 1.5, but later versions have been released.) The following quick and dirty edit of MonoBook.php will do the trick (be sure to adjust the paths to point to the correct files). The next time we upgrade MediaWiki, I'll probably fancy it up a little, but for now it's fine. — It's dot com 19:45, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Special:Scramble

OK. Also, since I already made this one section on your user talkpage, I might as well ask another question that came to mind. The MediaWiki extension that makes a new special page, which can allow someone to view a scrambled version of a specified page, is that available on request? Or is it already in the MediaWiki get extensions list? LikeLakers2 23:08, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] My username

Dear It's Dot Com

Hey man, It is me, long time no see.

Hey listen, I was hoping you could assist me, see, I wish to change my username. When i originally made my username, I guess I was naive then, but with the times as they are, I wish to change my HRWiki username, please help me.

Cheers Nikolce Kocovski 02:10, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Why do you want to change your username, and what do you want to change it to? If it's because you used your real name, I really wouldn't worry about it unless you have some specific, concrete reason, mainly because now that your name is already in the history of pages, it's not like it's just going to disappear. — It's dot com 04:17, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Tentative request

Hello, It's dot com! I'd like to apologize in advance for bringing this issue up again, but I have a request regarding the old Fanstuff Wiki files. I hope this doesn't already deter you, I intend to be respectful and cooperative. The old Fanstuff wiki holds a good deal of nostalgia for me, as well as for a few of my friends. The "purged" fanstuff wiki retains some of this nostalgia (thanks for continuing to host that, by the way!) but much of the community discussion and silliness is contained only on the old files. If you even still have the pre-"purge" fanstuff wiki files, then I would be delighted to take them off your hands.

Note that I don't intend to start up the H*R Fanstuff Wiki again! First because you've expressed that you wish our community distanced from yours, and second because the original Fanstuff Wiki community has since dispersed anyway. I understand that any attempt to resurrect the site would be ill-advised, so I will not do that. I merely intend to sift through old pages which were lost in the purge, for historical and entertainment purposes. I may host it as a private archive on my own website, but if this would bother you then I will not do so. The HRFWiki harbored a lot of my creative efforts in my early teenage years, and I would just like to reflect on that community's golden years. I hope you understand.

Apologies again for the bothering, especially as it seems you've already suffered a great deal of passive-aggressive remarks on the Fanstuff Wiki issues. I apologize for anything I did personally in that way. I don't intend to push the issue but it would mean a great deal to me if you would do this for me. Thank you!

--Shadow Scythe 21:02, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

I understand your reservations in responding to such a request. A simple "no" will suffice if that's how you feel. I won't bother you again. --Shadow Scythe 09:19, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Apologies for the late reply. I've repeatedly stated that those files should be considered gone, sorry. — It's dot com 03:16, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Oh yes, I remember that policy now. Well, in my view, such a policy is not really necessary any longer, as the reasons and needs to keep these files from the community have since become more or less unnecessary, mainly as the community is practically gone, as is the tension and problems surrounding what originally spurred the purge to happen. I also understand your hesitancy in providing the archive to any old user, so perhaps it's worth noting that I also spent a bit of time acting as a sysop in this community, and in this position I did my best to mitigate conflict and tension, and to keep users abiding by the standards. I understand that you never had much high esteem for the fanstuff portion of this wiki, and probably rightfully so. But it all meant a lot to me, perhaps as much as Homestar Runner itself! It fostered a lot of goofy discussion and fledgling creative efforts, at least it did in its earlier years, much of which did not survive to the archive which is hosted now.
Sorry, I guess I'm rambling again! Really I just mean to ask that you'd please reconsider your policy, now that the nasty politics surrounding Fanstuff Wiki issues have dissipated! Speaking for myself, transferring ownership of these forgotten archives to a humble old, reminiscing sysop doesn't seem particularly problematic, and I hope that you can see things this way too. It would really mean a lot to me if you could do this favor for me!
Also I understand that further discussion in a public medium may not be especially desirable to you. If you would prefer to discuss this via e-mail you can contact me at pullskip@gmail.com. Also, if there is someone else who would be better for me to talk to at this point, let me know. --Shadow Scythe 08:28, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and if feel that you can only offer parts of the files, or can only offer them under my abiding certain conditions, please say so. I also hope I don't sound rude at this point! And I hope it doesn't sound like I'm arguing, or trying to make you upset. I would just be very, very happy if I could revisit a tiny part of my childhood. --Shadow Scythe 08:40, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

But I need something that only you can get. I posted a Homestar fanfiction on a subpage a few years ago, and you deleted it, which I'm completely fine with. However, I think I accidentally deleted the fanfic from my fanfiction.net account, so if it won't cause you much trouble, could you go through my deleted contributions and send it to me through e-mail? [edit] About my username

Dear It's dot com

It's me again, I know I come on rarely but its mostly because of well, work.

Anyway, I was hoping you could help change my user name, or at least direct me to the page where it can be changed?

I realize that my user name will be in the history pages of whatever articles I edited, but people outside this wiki will not be bothered to look past the user page.

Help would be appreciated.

Nikolce Kocovski 00:50, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Why do you want to change your username? What would you change it to? We usually don't change usernames of users who have established themselves, which you have. If it's a privacy thing, changing your username wouldn't help anyway, because every time you've signed your name it's there in the text of the page. — It's dot com 18:59, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit] One Two, One Two

I just have a quick question since you were experimenting on something and gave the One Two, One Two article some time on the front page. Would we need to tag it as a featured article now or just wait until it's officially nominated and granted FA by wiki consensus? — Ngamer01 16:48, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

A side note, it wasn't an experiment. It was one, two, one, two day (12/12/12). — Defender1031*Talk 16:50, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
D'oh. Had a 2+2=22 moment. Anyways the question still stands. Does it still need to be marked as featured? I figured I should just ask first rather than going ahead and then getting rv'd for it. — Ngamer01 16:54, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
I agree with stux's suggestion here. — Defender1031*Talk 17:02, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
I don't mind its being listed in the big list, but I don't consider it a real featured article. It was just a little joke (that I didn't even come up with myself). I didn't even bother to do a full writeup, because that wasn't the joke. — It's dot com 17:21, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Space or no after em dashes

"You don't need 'em after em dashes". That's some funny stuff, man! I looked it up and I confused hyphens with the spacing rules for ellipses. I'm going to edit some of my edits now... --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 02:17, 19 March 2013 (UTC) So would this edit be valid? --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 02:42, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

I'd say yes. By the way, I wish I could tell you that was an intentional pun, but it wasn't. — It's dot com 02:47, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Comedic gold, nonetheless. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 02:57, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Would I space after &mdashes? Are they the equivalent of em dashes, or are they different somehow (like en dashes and hyphens)? --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 03:17, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Are you asking if there's a difference between — and in the code? No, with regard to the page output, there's not. — It's dot com 03:55, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
I'm not sure how to (or it's not in my privileges), but would you change the Strong Bad email running gags category into the proper capitalization (Strong Bad Email Running Gags?) And a hefty request- I'm currently trying to change — and into —, for overall consistency now that we support it- could you add that to The Cheat Bot's functions? --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 16:37, 19 March 2013 (UTC) AND WHY DID THE FONT CHANGE?
Wait, don't do that. See HRWiki talk:Standards → Raw characters vs HTML entities (skip to "Now, I will make one exception to this... and that's dashes" for the relevant part). — It's dot com 17:04, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Broncotroll - The font changed because you accidentally broke the code tags. It has since been fixed. Be sure that for every <tag> you have, to close it with a </tag> with a slash in front. The Knights Who Say Ni 17:10, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, are you speaking of the edit conflict that deleted some other thing I wrote (or... meant to write... I swear... dreamed of writing?). I love to see the wiki running at this speed, too! As for new user A: was that meant to mean me and if so B: I found hr in early 2004, I didn't join the wiki until 2 years ago (or become active until a few weeks ago) for reasons I will at some point describe on my user page... some time. Basically, I only considered joining after the hiatus to keep morale up. But here's the thing I think I meant to write: Aaaah- so should I replace — with mdash or just leave everything? Also, there are lots of instances of using em dashes on the wiki where en dashes should be used... should I fix those? If so, should I use (en dash I'm to lazy to copy and paste) or ndash? --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 17:24, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
You should just leave them. As far as the reader is concerned, there is no difference between — and an actual em dash in the code. For that reason alone it's typically not worth the edit to change them. All it's doing is adding another revision to the database with no real gain. On top of all that, as mentioned on the standards talk page, we have reasons for preferring entities over raw characters when it comes to dashes. It's not a big deal with the ones you already changed, but I wouldn't change any more. Where are em dashes being used where en dashes should be? — It's dot com 18:11, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Ex: for dates on the Strong Bad Email page, "Lappy Era: 26 — some other year", I replaced them with en's (not in raw though) in this edit.
--Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 18:18, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
I changed them back, even though the en dashes are technically correct. With the spaces on either side of the dashes, I think the en dashes looked too wimpy compared to the em dashes. By the way, I think you might have your terminology backwards: A dash by itself in the code—like this—is what we mean when we say raw. An HTML entity (like —) is not raw. — It's dot com 18:36, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Do you mean too wimpy in general or just for important headings like in that page (you didn't change the DVD release info 1–200 into em). I wouldn't say I had my terminology backwards, as that would imply that I know what I'm talking about- I kinda just winged it when I saw you using the terms. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 18:42, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
For multiple-word headings with lots of white space. I didn't change the one I didn't change because the en dash is appropriate there. It's in running text, it connects just two things, and there are no spaces. By the way, the appearance of your signature in this thread is a good example of why we discourage non-white backgrounds. — It's dot com 18:57, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

[edit] April Fools'

There have been some dumb pranks in the past but this is the worst. I am personally offended by this April Fools' prank. I might just report this wiki to International Wiki Headquarters and have them ban this wiki from the web. It will take me days to recover from this "prank." I mean COME ON! I am organizing a full out wiki boycott TODAY! From today on NO MORE editing from ANYONE! If you don't put these links back to normal I will PERSONALLY make sure no one will ever see this website again! This is a DISGRACE! My god! How could you do something this disgusting!? Changing links... just wow. This is the worst thing to happen since... since... I don't even know. This is a big deal. TheThin 00:59, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Good one. Almost as funny as your old Thingy videos. — It's dot com 01:04, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
I wouldn't call it offensive—just annoying and inefficient. None of the site actually changed, the links are the same and everything, he's just using this weird magic to randomly redirect links. And they're relevant— edit goes to edit, talk goes to talk, pictures go to other pictures. The good news is I lost my pitiful reliance to hyperlinks—I typed in the URL for editing this talk page from scratch! Can you imagine the state of this wiki, though, if the site had updated? Now that... would be unpleasant. Look, the guy wrote the flipping binary for the site layout, he can mess with people if he wants to. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 01:13, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
I doubt he meant it sincerely (I'm 70% sure). I was actually hoping that the site would update, because the chaos would have been amazing. — It's dot com 01:18, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

[edit] New Account...

It's Dot Com, My name is Jeff Daniels, I am looking to create a new account, Broncotroll suggested I see you. I have been active in the wiki as 65.33.23*.*. I would like to bypass the whole email thing, as my parents are VERY strict about what emails I send to who, and they don't like me sending emails to strangers (accept maybe Strong Bad). I have/had a Wikipedia account (Jdaniels15), and my edits are usually limited to typos and misspellings (which thrive in WP). I do not like the visual word varification picture things. Sometimes you can hardly recognize the letters, and when you can they are often the letters that have identical capital and lower-case forms (I.E.: V, C, X, S, O, W, Z). It usually takes me 5-6 tries just to get one right. I also have a khwiki.net account, username Jdaniels15, though my handle is ToaJuaraevo01. This is strictly for simplicirty, as ALL of my accounts have the Jdaniels15 username, with 1 of 3 parsswords for each one. For obvious reasons none of them will be revearled, 'cause, hey, ya never know who's whartchin'. Thank you for your time, 65.33.237.1 14:46, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

P.S. I am 22, and, being both in collage, and emotionally challenged (hence my rather lingual post on the "500 The Cheats" page), I live with my Grandparents. (It's a LONG story, so please do NOT ask... It would be like asking Homsar to speak proper English). Again, Thanks

Okay, I've created User:Jdaniels15, but you'll have to tell us your email address (or send an email to admin@hrwiki.org) in order to get the password. — It's dot com 15:10, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Okay, check your email. You should have received a temporary password. — It's dot com 16:47, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
You may have noticed that my WP account is retired. The reason for this is that I noticed that there have been very few talk page edits/others as of late. In fact, most of the articles that I have seen have not had a single talk page edit since 2009-2011. Plus, there are many other wikis I can go to. So I cleared my watchlist, put up a retirement banner, and left. 65.33.237.1 18:11, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Dear Tube Socks,

It's me again. I hope you had a good year. Free of athletes' feet and toe jam. :)

If you don't remember me, I'm the user Shadow Scythe, although you can just call me Nigel. I'm glad to see the Homestar Runner Wiki is still up and being actively edited! I'll always have fond memories of both the website and its userbase. The website may be dead, but the community lives on! :)

The reason I'm writing is because I'm interested in hosting a mirror of the Fanstuff Wiki. I realize that at this point it's no longer linked to on the site, and it's been closed to new edits for nearly three years now. Further, I read on the Donations page that it costs around $50 per month to host this website, and I imagine that a significant portion of that comes from hosting the archived Fanstuff. Myself, I wouldn't mind hosting it, mostly because of its sentimental value to me. However, I also intend to keep an offline copy, with which I'll conduct some research on how a small fanbase changes over time as its userbase grows, shrinks, and ages.

I understand that you're busy with other administrative duties, and certainly other duties in life; as such, I'm prepared to offer you monetary compensation for your time and services, either directly donated to the Wiki, or given to you, whatever you feel is appropriate. I'm prepared to offer $25 immediately but I'm willing to negotiate, if you think it will take a lot of time on your part. If you would rather communicate by e-mail, at pullskip (at) gmail (dot) com! Thank you for your consideration!

Nigel

Only three years? I would have thought it was more than that. The fanstuff archive is fine where it is. — It's dot com 21:50, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
I would have thought it was longer too! But these edits seem to indicate it was closed back in June 2010.
Anyways, if you're still OK with hosting the Fanstuff for the time being, then that's great! I suppose I was just worried that it might someday disappear if, for instance, it was taking up too much space or was costing a lot to host or something like that, so I figured I might as well offer to mirror it if you didn't want to host it yourself. If that's ever the case in the future, let me know. :)
Though, even if you don't need it mirrored at this point, would it be possible for me to get a copy of the content, just in case? For that matter, what about the purged content? (If you even still have it.) I understand you had reservations about keeping that offline in the past, although now I'd imagine they'd be obsolete. But I digress.
In any case, thanks for getting back to me, and keep on tranglin'! — Nigel 06:11, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Recent vandals?

Here's the thing. I went to check recent changes (like most do) and I saw one lone anonnym'n making a ton of pointless pages. Though yes, it does says you deleted them, so I bet you noticed, but do you have any clue what's going on? He was dang stubborn, so I have a small worry on this. And if you didn't delete those pages, I will freak out more then Marzipan encountering the Cheat with Terminal 7 Brain Cnacer with Rank tooty-two billion rabies. --Camwoodstock 16:39, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

I think maybe you should keep your pants on. — It's dot com 17:05, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
...What pants? Hmmmm... But really, in all seriousness, I feel paranoid when some vandal is that presistant. It just never ceases to spook me. Nothing is scarier. Seriously. Not even that bad creepypasta. In fact, those are lame, but that's another story. I am just paranoid, so feel free to leave a talk page message if you have any updates. --Camwoodstock 19:08, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
That vandal was nothing. A mere fly to be swatted. — It's dot com 19:22, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

[edit] I'm leaving

I have made the decision to leave the HRWiki. Would you be able to please delete all my subpages and all but the most recent revisions of my userpage, my sig page and my talk page? I want ALL of it gone. Dagoth 11:01, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Fine. — It's dot com 16:55, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Happy late new year

And did you get what you wanted for Decemberween? One last thing, though, am I the only one other then the wiki members here that noticed the store update? Camwoodstock 16:38, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

I did. As for the store update, I didn't take a poll (of everyone in the world). — It's dot com 18:14, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

[edit] The Forum

Hey man. Douglas from the forum here. I've tried to get the admins' attention through there, but no dice. Listen, I'd love to have the chance to get in there and clean it up - I used to love posting there back when Off-Subject was open pre-2008. I check at least once a week to see if there's been any admin activity, but I don't really see any... since it looks like most of the administration there has given up on the place, would it be conceivable to give a regular user admin privileges? I'd be willing to take that on. I'd just really like to clean it up and see if I can breathe some sort of life back into the place. Let me know what you think. --Douglas

We've cleaned up most that we found. We've made ourselves a note to check on it a little more frequently. — It's dot com 15:29, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit] A History

Hey It's dot com, I was looking at HRWiki:A History and noticed the content was a bit old and figured you'd be just the chap to update it with server moves and wiki versions and such. I R F 03:16, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

[edit] How to request a username

How do you request a username? 107.77.68.28 23:43, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

  • To register, choose a username and send it in an email to admin@hrwiki.org.
  • Avoid usernames that are offensive, inflammatory, or confusing.
  • Pick a readable name, not just a number.
  • Avoid choosing a username that is identical to the name of a Homestar Runner character, toon, place, etc.
  • Note that your choice may be rejected if it is too close to an existing user's username.
Keep on tranglin'! — It's dot com 00:00, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding gif thumbnails conversion

Hey there wiki-admin-guy! I was reading up on some user talk pages, and you stated that you manually fix thumbnails for .gifs that are used in articles. If you have the time, could you fix the thumbnail for File:KeyboardStrongBadTweet.gif on @StrongBadActual? Thanks! - Catjaz63 19:50, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

[edit] HRFWiki Archive

how many dollarydoos would it take to get the pre-purge archive of the HRFWiki back

it would be pretty darn rootin' tootin' if we were able to access our stuff from the past, y'know?

I disagree. I for one believe the HRFWiki is one thing from the past that would best remain lost. Unhappy times... 99.48.86.26 04:47, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Let me tell you something It's dot com. This really irks me. The thing has clearly desired to be a sysop for over ten years. He probably loves Homestar Runner and the Wiki more than most of the uers (and indirectly) the sysops on here. Just make an exception for him to be one please. He can do a lot of good for this site. [edit] Marzipan’s Answering Machine Talk Page

Hello. I was not accusing you of anything. I was simply telling you what I know (and what I heard in the cartoon). I heard, just as you heard, no /p/ in what Homsar said. I heard "chintzy", not "chipsy". As I type this, "chipsy" has a red line under it (indicating misspellings [and because there is no such word as "chipsy"]). I hate edit wars. Anyway, I won't bother you. Take care. Again, I never meant to come across in an accusing (or, as you said, accusatory) way.—Bde1982 23:44, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

[edit] D'screetret disappearance

Once upon a time about fifteen years ago, I was a cruddy fifth-grader who has since grown up, gone to college and reinvented myself. While I currently prefer to operate anonymously, I have heard of a mythical wiki concept called the courtesy vanish. While I'm not going to leave the wiki forever, I would like to ask if there's a way if my old, abandoned account can be erased discreetly without anyone recognizing me as the smelly loser I used to be. Then I can go back to being an Anonymous Contributor. -- 99.48.86.26 18:53, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

I'm certainly willing to change your name and delete your user page(s) (you'd have to log in to request both of those), but if I were you I wouldn't worry about it, first because realistically nobody cares and second because those actions will show up in logs, and would just make you more visible due to the Streisand effect. Just go about your business and you'll be fine. — It's dot com 21:11, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Videlectrix Linx

[edit] Astros/Account Deletion

Greetings, It's dot com. Two questions for you (one Homestar Runner-related, the other not): How can I delete my Homestar Runner Wiki account? Also, as you are from Texas, I just have to ask: Are you thrilled that the Houston Astros won the World Series?—Bde1982 14:31, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

You cannot delete your account. Your account is intertwined with your edits, and your account can't simply be deleted without leaving holes in the database. I was happy for the Houston fans, but apart from that, no, I wasn't thrilled at all that the Astros won. — It's dot com 22:43, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Okay, fair enough. I cannot delete my account. I never wanted to mess up the database. I just can't edit here anymore. I've had trouble on this site from some users (who shall rename nameless). Also, I've been busy and I've had more important things to deal with in life, such as laying two loved ones to rest. Cancer is a beast. I can only assume you are not an Astros fan. Regardless, I respect you, It's dot com. Hope all is going well for you. Take good care.—Bde1982 23:49, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

[edit] Telltale links

Another interwiki link question. Telltale's site is now located at telltale.com rather than telltalegames.com. The latter redirects to the former, but it still might be nice to update our telltale: interwiki links to reflect the new address. Lira (talk) 01:36, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

I'd like to, but unfortunately it's not written for the latest (or even a recent) version of MediaWiki. Someday we'll update it. — It's dot com 15:31, 5 October 2018 (UTC)

[edit] Problem with signing up

I'm sorry you're having trouble. Let's get you fixed up. For us to make you an account, you need to choose a username and send it in an email to admin@hrwiki.org. If you've already done this and we lost it or didn't receive it, I apologize. You'll need to do it again. Hope that helps! — It's dot com 02:20, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

[edit] Main page redesign

Hi, Dot com! We need the approval of a sysop to implement the proposed main page redesign. So far all of the votes have been unanimous (with at least 4 votes on each change). Should this design be used now, or should we spend more time getting consensus and/or further improving the page? I'd also like to ask if it would be possible to embed a @StrongBadActual Twitter timeline on the main page as discussed here. I've tried requesting sysops' input on various project pages, and I can't think of what else to do other than contacting a sysop directly. I apologize if this message comes across as annoying or demanding, I'm just not sure how else to get approval for this design. hegtcX1.png Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 22:41, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

[edit] Questions about your work on parser and extension functions

Hi! I'm making a wiki of my own covering an incredibly prolific YouTuber who's made hundreds of videos over several years. I love the layout that HR wiki uses for navigation since it really allows for a user to see the evolution of someone's content. However, part of my wiki's job is to act as an archive, so it can get really messy really quickly when I have to reorder video navigation for one reason or another. I noticed this wiki uses a custom parser function and navigation template to help make managing navigation easier, so I was wondering if it would be possible for you to direct me to some good resources to try to figure out how to make my own?

My experience with code has mostly been limited to some work in Java, as well as PHP and a bit of Lua for my own wiki. I'm not super experienced when it comes to writing something custom, but I can usually figure something out when I'm determined enough and have the right resources at hand. I've been really struggling to figure out how to do this by myself, so any guidance you could provide would be wonderful. If you would like, I can give you my email so we can talk a bit further.

Thanks!

Hey, sure. Feel free to email dotcom@hrwiki.org. I'm pretty sure I know which navigation you're talking about, but go ahead and list an actual page. This being a holiday week I might not get to it right away, but I'm happy to help if I can. — It's dot com 05:26, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
