[edit] Norman vs. Normal

For the "S to the C, R O double L, my name is not Norman, but still I rock well!" rap, I always thought of it as "S to the C, R O double L, my name is not normal, but still I rock well!" If I'm the only one, then I'll shut up, but yeah. ~senor

It's certainly Norman, because Norman Rockwell is a famous painter. It's a joke. Aurora the Homestar Coder 15:28, 9 Apr 2005 (MDT)
Okay, thanks. :) señor (Talk | contribs) 17:00, 9 April 2005 (UTC) (left unsigned)
It could also be a referance to those old emerald nuts ads, where, in one, there are two guys yelling "I am Norman and I am great! I am Norman and I am also great! I'm a greater Norman then you are!" etc. etc. — talk Bubsty edits 04:23, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] A long one

Is it me, or has the current rap been kept longer than the previous ones? -Kinsey

Yes, it has. —FireBird|Talk 15:35, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
You know what scroll button song lasted the longest (over one year)? The one that begins with "You never seen anything..." Let's put it in the Trivia section, shall we? --69.19.14.44 14:42, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Broken links

All the links to the sbemail raps on http://e2tl.playvectrex.com just come up with a "HTTP 404 Not Found" page.

These three links are the only ones that do work: http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail_lappy.swf http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail.swf http://porplemontage.com/media/sbemail_raps/Scroll%20it.swf The Tire 23:16, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I already changed all of these over to my mirror, problem solved. --Kit

[edit] Two things

First, the previous scroll rap link (scroll buttons and the Lappy) actually gives the present one.

Second, that mention of the Coach Z/Strong Bad rap duet being a reference to rampage is highly doubtful.. considering rampage came way after.

-- Mithent 12:56, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] I know it would be hard now, but...

It would be cool if we had which emails the scroll button songs were active for, like for the second latest "119-130" or the latest "131-present."

Also, these shouldn't be called 'Email Raps,' they should be called 'Scroll Button Songs' or 'Scroll Button Raps' or something along those lines. »ßenit, known as señor« 23:08, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The newest Scroll Button Song

The newest scroll button song that appeared after email 131 is also the song that Marzipan sings in replacement. Strong Bad says it is the worst song ever, but apparently he uses it now. - EMJS

[edit] Smoking crack

I don't believe that Coach Z is saying anything about smoking crack in the scroll button rap duet, I *think* he is saying then you must go crash, but I could be wrong.

I definitly hear a "sh" at the end of Coach Z's rap...besides i doubt The Brothers would put such a drug reference, especially one encouraging drug use... -- Tony Stony 01:57, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Oh, he's saying crack. Make no mistake. For one thing, it rhymes with "attack." But the absolute proof is the fact that the Chaps changed it so quickly. Like, within a couple days. I don't know the exact time frame - could have sworn the dates used to be printed on this page.

I think someone found TBC explicitly saying that it's "smoke crack." But he wasn't saying "must" as in "you should do this," he was saying it as in "you probably already do." --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:08, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm just saying that if you listen to it with speakers on full tilt I hear coach z saying "crash"...then again it might just be Strong Bad begining to say "scroll"...but i still hear a soft "sh" rather than a hard "ck"... -- Tony Stony 23:01, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I recommend some new speakers.
Crack rhymes with attack. That's proof enough for me. Aurora the Homestar Coder 23:08, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I agree. Crack=attack. That's definitley enüff prüff for me. --VolatileChemical 20:44, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I always thought it was: CZ: And if you're tryin' to fade me then you must smoke grass! SB: Scroll buttons aww yeah like that heart attack. I guess that doesn't really rhyme, but it's what it sounded like to me.

And as a side note, yes, they did not mean: "SMOKE IT!" They meant it as: "If you're making fun of me then obviosly you smoke something." --Kit

crash is what I hear --jake 05:33, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)

He definitely says "smoke crash," but I think that's just his accent acting up. - Joshua

Sounds like 'grass' to me. 'smoke grass' .. it doesn't rhyme, but that's what it sounds like. marginally 'better' ^_^'

I hear a "sh" and a "ck" both at the same time. SaltyTalk! 04:13, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Guys, if you have the DVD, you hear it clearly: it's "crack." 'Nuff said. --ISlayedTheKerrek 05:32, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Um, I hear crash, not crack. Like "And if your trying to fade me you must smoke crash." Is it just me or did someone else hear it? Doctorwho295 April 6, 2009

Smoking crash? What does that even mean? It doesn't make sense! What this is so pointless! esides, this discussion ended years ago. Why bring it up? We already have consensus. Geez. --Jellote 23:38, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Cut off

In the new "scroll buttons and random" rap, a sound clip of SB saying "Wha-" can be heard at the end. The sound clip is SB saying something else, but all we hear is "Wha-".

  • I think that this has more to do with your flash player than it does the scroll button rap. Sometimes, (and I have no idea why), the sound doesn't cut off when it's supposed to. You probably heard the start of one of the random.bat noises. --Blu Aardvark (talk) (edits) 11:13, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Moving Suggestion

I think this should be moved to "Strong Bad Scroll Button Raps". It has more relevance. -- Super Sam 14:59, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I agree with Super Sam. --69.40.181.52 15:04, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, I wasn't logged in. I agree with Super Sam --Smileyface11945 15:06, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Well, I hear no objections, so I'll move it. -- Super Sam 12:35, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I don't like it, and there should be more of a consensus before a move like that. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 12:37, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)
What is it called in the DVD? (If they call it something...) Anyway, I'm fine either way. - Joshua

It would be nice to know why you object. (Some HSR themed username and Lapper) To me, Email Raps are the things Strong Bad says at the start of each email. Scroll Button Raps/Songs/Whatever are the things Strong Bad says on the menu page. -- Super Sam 12:53, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Update: Alright, following Joshua's suggestion, I looked at the DVD page. (strongbad_email.exe_Disc_One) It says this:
Scroll Button Songs: A video featuring every scroll button rap up until the "S to the C" rap.
I think that speaks for itself. -- Super Sam 12:58, 28 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Yep. Scroll Button Rap. Any objections now? - Joshua
For clarification - "Scroll Button Songs" is what it's called on the DVD. The "every scroll button rap" part was added by the wiki, saying what it was, but it's only called "Songs" on the DVD itself. --phlip TC 17:05, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

I think I will move it back now. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 13:35, 2 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Why? What's the problem now? When you object to something, you really should say why. -- Super Sam 07:00, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • Unless I'm mistaken, his message was in response to the above discussion, and this was a comment stating that he was moving the page back to Strong Bad Email Raps. Which is were it is now. --Blu Aardvark (talk) (edits) 07:08, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I figured that. I want to know why he moved it back. -- Super Sam 10:05, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • Oh, I see. I mis-read the discussion, and thought it was a decision reached by consensus. Looking over it again, I see your point. Disregard. --Blu Aardvark (talk) (edits) 11:10, 5 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Alright. Now, unless I start getting some valid reasons why this should not be moved. "Scroll Button Songs" is the official name, as noted on this page. It's been almost a month. Reasons, or I'm moving it. -- Super Sam 12:02, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Do it. Accuracy is best. - Joshua
I'm moving it right now.
Um... take a closer look at this conversation. It happened in 2005. Nothing has been said since then, and the page was never moved (or, if it was, it was moved back). -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 20:20, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Top H*R Listen button & Firefox

For most of my browsing I use firefox, and firefox gives you an interesting feature: it puts the site icons next to some of the links placed in this wiki (if you use firefox or netscape you'll know what i'm talking about, if you use IE or Opera you won't see anything). For the longest time I thought this was a feature of the wiki -- that it automatically added these sprites into the HTML code. I found out that it doesn't when I surfed this page. Ok -- on to my point in this page. If you surf this page with firefox, the first "Listen" button is shifted to the left because of the icon, and so it crossed the table boundaries, looking not-so-good! IE and opera do not do this, as I mentioned earlier, and so they look fine and line up fine.

  • Does anybody have an explanation as to why Firefox does this with this site
  • Does anyone have good suggestions as to making that table look good in both Firefox and IE (other than the one i thought of which was to make that column bigger).

--Stux 13:49, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

I saw what you were talking about. all it needed is just a fixed width. I set it up to 70. looks good? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 14:13, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
Looks great! Thanks! It bothers me though that only certain users will see what we're talking about. They probably thing we're crazy ;)... Ironic ain't it? --Stux 16:12, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
By the way, it isn't Firefox inserting the icons. The Wiki does insert them by itself, but only certain browsers (i.e. Firefox) can see them. If you are on a different browser, and wondering what we're talking about, see this image. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif, 17:33, 13 October 2005 (BST)
Ahhh! Thank you! That clears things up a lot! If you don't mind, I'll post a link to the discussion being shown in the screenshot. --Stux 17:06, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
Yes, those icons are displayed using CSS3. See the W3C specs for more information. Oh, and in addition to Firefox/Mozilla/Seamonkey/Gecko etc., I pretty sure Safari supports them, but I don't have a Mac so I couldn't tell you for sure. -- Tom 20:27, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
Yes--Safari also supports them. Trey56 20:39, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Main page updates

When the song is updated, I think it should be listed as "New Scroll Button Song" Instead of rap, because they haven't been raps for the past few times anyway, and it will be more correct.--Martin925 21:36, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] why isn't there

a link to the (current) second scroll button song?

Nikolce Kocovski 05:16, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

the one that says: Scroll buttons and random, you can't handle 'em. Just the way I planned 'em. Everybody likes... you... friend.

[edit] Audio / Video of other scroll button songs

I see no one got the swf of the other scroll button songs. I have a video of them in avi format (and the audio in mp3 format). Should I post them online so that they can be linked from here? DrWorm

Hmm... I don't see any problem with that. Thunderbird 17:09, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] HRWiki Mirror

Can we get HRWiki mirrors for every old scroll button song possible? Similar to the one featured in If I Ran the Camera? That way it'd be neater, more secure, and updated so people can listen to ones like the Rando song. - Joshua 16:13, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

If I Ran the Camera is kind of a special case in the fact that this is (or at least was at the time of creation) the only mirror for the toon. We don't want to start mirroring everything in our little wiki. I'm pretty sure our links to mirror websites are more than enough in this case. Thunderbird 16:18, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Original mirror of If I Ran the Camera. So... that arguement isn't really true, as the HRWiki mirror came from that one. And I don't trust these mirror sites too much as they seem to have stopped updating. (So they might go offline at any moment, I think.) But I guess I'm fine with them. But what about the modern scroll button song that has no mirror? Are we going to make one for that? - Joshua 16:24, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Oh you're right. Sorry about that. My bad. You make a pretty good case. Alright, I'm behind you, but you gotta get the vote of an admin too, to upload around a dozen toon mirrors. Thunderbird 16:28, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Sure, I'll do it. Who is up for making a list of links to the files here to make it easier for me? I think the only one you'll have a hard time finding is the Norman Rockwell one. -- Tom 15:56, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Normal Rockwell? Or did you mean the Rando one? - Joshua 16:41, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
The Rando one, that's it. Serves me right for trusting my memory and not checking the article. -- Tom 17:11, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Done. -- Tom 18:25, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] There's no lady...ing allowed?

So no one has a copy of the lady...ing scroll buttong song?! :( I'm trying to see if my any miracle I have a copy but I doubt that... Has anyone been saving the current songs? That way when they "become old" we have them ready for archiving? --Stux 19:13, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

I found a copy all by myself and Super Sam gets no credit. Yay! - Joshua 12:00, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Can't anyone find

A link to "Scroll buttons and random, you can't handle 'em. Just the way I planned 'em. Everybody likes... you... friend."

well?

[edit] Safari browser

As of June 10, 2006, users with Safari browsers can access an Easter egg: while Strong Bad is singing, switch to a different tab in the same window. Shortly after he finishes singing, Strong Bad will make a series of strange noises. If you switch back to his tab, he stops.

This "Easter egg" describes the random feature noises. Anyone else using the same browser experiance the same "Easter egg"? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:39, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

You're right, the same thing happens to me. I wonder if there are other cases where Flash does this. Trey56 18:46, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No SB and song during vacation

I think that the fact that Strong Bad's "Scroll buttons, what is UP?" quote should have ended upon the release of vacation, and I find that Strong Bad's presence during that email is questionable. So why not replace the end date (which is the date before the release of invisibility) with the date before the release of vacation?

All I'm sayin' is, Strong Bad wasn't here in the vacation menu.

So, you're saying Strong Bad didn't appear in vacation? Uuuh, yeah he did, he answered the email.

No, no, no. It was the sbemail menu that listed sbemails 1 through 40. That's what I meant. --69.19.14.44 14:39, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Scrolling up high and down low

Okay, my last guess would be to provide an Internet Archive Wayback Machine copy of the last scroll button song. But until someone provides something to the mirror, this is all I have. And it's to listen to, not browse existing emails. [1] --Don't try the random.bat on that archive, Addict 2006 17:13, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Willie Wonka

The latest one sounds like that Willie Wonka song "If you want to view paradise, simply look around and do it." Retromaniac 01:11, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Nah, I think it barely resemles that, but if you really think it does, you could STUFF it. TheYellowDart(t/c)
Nope, never, DELETED. Xifihas 17:40, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] name'd

i think this article needs a better name.--Dj teh homsar 17:01, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

What else can they be called. Scroll Button Songs is exactly what they are. They are also referenced by Strong Bad in replacement.

[edit] Ungh

That grunt at the end of the current (August 13, 2007) song reminds me a lot of Jimi Hendrix's style. Does anyone also think so, and think it's notable enough? --Dandin1 01:50, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I think your right. I guess thats notable.

[edit] Mirror Glitch

Every mirror starting with the highschool song lists portrait as the newest email. (As well as the 1 before that, but that's not a problem) Is this intentional? Bad Bad Guy 22:29, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

And if it was intentional, why do the mirrors of these songs leave out the newest emails at their last time of use? How did you remove those emails from the list? What do Strong Bad's parents look like? Bad Bad Guy 19:19, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay, in case you guys don't understand my posts, let me try to give an example. I'll use the "I scroll it up high, you scroll it down low," song since it was the 1 being used when I 1st got into Sbemails. If the mirror of that song is supposed to accurately reenact the menu from that era, it should have all the emails from some kinda robot to what I want, but the list stops at portrait. Bad Bad Guy 21:50, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Can I at least get a, "There's nothing we can do about it so shut up"? Bad Bad Guy 00:15, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Why won't anybody answer my question already!? Bad Bad Guy 02:52, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Clearly all the users on HRWiki hate you.

Can it be fixed by the end of the month? Bad Bad Guy 21:59, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

It's on my to-do list. Since it's not a critical error, and since I'm working on several other things both in real life and here at the wiki, it's not very high on the list. But it will get done. Keep your pants on. — It's dot com 20:34, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Should I upload OGG files of the scroll button songs and post links to them on this page? --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 04:04, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mash play on that jambox!

"The August 13th, 2007 song is the only one to include music, and the sound of the enter button is different."

After about the fifth time, I realized that might actually be the sound of hitting play on a tape player. In fact I'm fairly certain it is, since the enter key doesn't sound like that in the last couple emails. Octan 17:44, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Error in newest song?

[edit] Hold it. Control it.

The song from April 20th 2004 has the first mouse-controlled (click and drag) scrollbar, as referenced in the song. Before that, you could only click on the up and down scroll buttons to move the list. Should this be noted under Inside References?

[edit] And that's why I like to pause with punctuation

There should not, cannot, and will not be a comma between "mé" and "when" in the current scroll button rap. It is improper grammar. The fact that there is a pause is no excuse for a comma where a comma simply does not go. Now then, ellipsis? Is that one really necessary? It's not that long a pause, and it's a necessary pause to keep the beat. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 19:15, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

I could go either way, but I lean toward leaving out the ellipsis. — It's dot com 23:04, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] New sbemail menu

The new 2021 sbemail menu lets you listen back to any of the previous scroll button songs, and I believe I heard one or two from the Tandy era that we don't currently have an audio link for. These songs might have just been recovered!

I poked around in the source code and found how they store the songs. The base is https://homestarrunner.com/assets/sbemails/sounds/scrollsongX_Y.mp3 where X is a number related to the Computer on screen (1 for Lappier, 2 for Compe, 3 for Lappy, 4 for Compy386 and 5 for Tandy) and y is a number related to what song to play. There still seems to be some missing ones but I'll try and grab what I can from this Guybrush20X6 16:00, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
