Okay heres a message. Hi. You're on facebook too, huh... I'm so badly addicted to that site, and this site, and fanstuff, and homestarrunner.com... ok, so I barely get off the puter all day 'cept for classes, and barely for homework. Oh well. Oh, and flash... i'm addicted to flash. Maybe someday i'll be almost as famous as TBC for somethin in flash... like when pigs fly... but you never know. Get autographs now while they're cheap! Oh, cwap... I think maybe I wasn't supposed to put this here? Sorry. -Jenny

  • Cool! Wow! My first serious contribution! check out: The Geddup Noise. It's not yet complete, and it definitely it a lot of work! But all These guys you see in the history have worked hard at getting this list right! Amazing how much goes into one little article! I'm tired. I need to go back to the world of responsability again :(. Take care ppl! --Stux 04:32, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)
    • Great job with that article! ^-^ You and Joshua did great with it (although I helped. A little). Good luck with future articles too. I might suggest making note of it on your actual user page too, along with the talk page. (I like it on the talk page, though. It lets people--like me--give random and well-deserved congratulations.) In closing, keep up the nice work. --DorianGray
      • Thank you for the kind comment DorianGray! You have a wonderful night! :) --Stux 04:50, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Geocities

If your website is hosted by geocities free then how you get a domain??? – Pertmywert (Talk·Edits) 08:06, 30 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Hehe! It's a secret! Actually, it's a little thing called domain parking! You register your domain (you gotta pay for that part) and "park it" -- you don't buy hosting. Many sites will offer free website redirection and will mask the real address (this is what I do). Two A good place is godaddy.com which is dirt cheap and offers lots of features, and is the only registrar I use at this moment. and names direct which offers a couple (not really that many) of other features but at a greater expense per year. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions. --Stux 14:02, 30 Sep 2005 (UTC)
How much do you pay??? – Pertmywert (Talk·Edits) 05:58, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
Well, the geocities page is one of their free ones (hence the ads and the limit on web space and traffic -- but mine's not a very big and important page so I don't care about that). All I pay for is the domain -- this one runs at about $40/year, while another one I have is $14/year and both include "domain protect" which keeps my personal information private in the Whois Database. --Stux 06:02, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
Well. This is awesome. – Pertmywert (Talk·Edits) 06:28, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

UPDATE: I am no longer a customer of namesdirect nor do I trust that company that much anymore. I have since switched exclusively to GoDaddy. --Stux 04:31, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Subpages

Hey Stux. I notice you have some stuff on this page that isn't really talk. My guess is that you don't want it on your main user page. May I suggest a subpage? Perhaps "User:Stux/to-do". You're allowed to have subpages for projects you're working on and other things that further the goals of the wiki. — It's dot com 19:36, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Cool! Thanks for the tip! --Stux 19:38, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Oh! You were so close! When you first started uploading those, I looked to check them out, and realized that they were going to be very good. I was gonna leave you a note on your talk page, but when I noticed how fast you were uploading, I decided not to mess up the beauty of your string of edits. I can't believe you got all the way to 3 before it was interrupted... Man! And, before I forget to say it in all my ramblings, good jorb! — It's dot com 03:48, 2 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Finally I found it!

I really didn't look for it, but the other day I really wanted to post this picture in my user space. I finally found it and I'm posting it. It pretty much describes how I've been feeling all week. Meh! --Stux 01:05, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Kudos for whoever made the template {{clear}} found here Template:clear. Even THAT i had to dig for again cuz it didn't occur to me to bookmark it or copy it to my page. Oh well. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Much better!

I feel better and more relaxed now!

In the news...

I think I will no longer be reading my current news from regular, hyped up news franchises, but instead from a truly unbiased (relatively speaking) source like the Wikipedia. Case in point:

  • The 2005_Indian_subcontinent_earthquake is a very recent, tragic event. This article on the wiki has been published the same day of the event. It cites the BBC article among others, and you can tell the night and day difference in tone, sensationalism and objectivity. Wow.
  • How I long for jounalists to attain the same level of true objectivity as encyclopedia writers are required (this wiki is a great example, beleive it or not). My apologies to those who are in the journaling business and also contribute/read the wiki. I am not trying to offend anyone but rather to make an observation.
  • In the meantime I will keep the people in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India in prayer.

--Stux 17:07, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Well it turns out there is a Wiki News project out there already! It's early so I haven't read the articles, so I can't render a verdict. Good day all! --Stux 13:29, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Stress

Stux, what are those recent templates for? We have those images uploaded. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 00:57, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

The templates are meant for "easy coding" for the stress level images (they link to them directly), that way people just need to change the level simply by changing the stress level number. I wanted to try it out and see if people would like to use that for their pages. If they are too much trouble I can remove them. --Stux 01:01, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
No trouble at all. Just curious. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 01:07, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

Heh

I caught that Robin Hood: Men in Tights edit summary. That's what it was, right? Anyway, I love that movie. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 17:04, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Lol! Awesome! Yup! that's right! Only that it's actually "D-E-E-D" but I'm used to saying it the other way. I wasn't sure if anyone would catch that! Yeah, it's an awesome movie. I gotta get my girlfriend to watch it, I know she'd like it! --Stux 17:08, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

IDs

The IDs for the costumes page were to the individual years, which are now taken care of by the individual pages. That's why there aren't IDs on the new pages (although, if someone wanted to get really ambitious, he or she could put 'id="homestar"', etc. on all the pages. But that's a topic for another day, probably). Also, you don't need to put underscores in the links. The software takes care of that. — It's dot com 18:17, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Sounds like a job for grape nuts I R F 18:21, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
Edit Conflict: I thought the one for Thy Dungeonman specifically was for the specific costume it was referring to (that is Strong Sad's costume? (LOL i didn't even catch the "pub" the first time I read it. ) Of course, SS is third on the list so it doesn't really matter as much now, does it? As for the underscores... um yeah... I was kinda lazy there, cuz I just copied and pasted the corresponding URLs and removed the header part of the url... :) *whistles* anyway... since you already fixed the old ones while I was typing, I'll keep an eye out for the new ones! (This will sound silly, but who's grape nuts!?) --Stux 18:25, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
User:GrapeNuts is a bot belonging to JoeyDay. He's programmed for automated tasks and replacements and stuff like that. It's pretty wild. --DorianGray

WikiTroll

Oops, sorry about that early post thing. Was an accident. But what I wanted to say is that if a troll has been blocked, it doesn't need to go on the WikiTroll page. That is simply to bring the troll to a sysop's attention, and especially with this WikiTikiTavi guy, it is just not worth the time and energy. This is probably good news for you eh? small_logo.pngUsername-talk 06:52, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

LoL I thought that was an interesting message. I was thinking of leaving some smart quip like "nice message" but I figured I'd wait and see what developed. BTW you're fast on them reverts! Yeah, you're right, it really isn't worth my time and energy. But when I started noticing, I didn't know if there were sysops around so I did it anyway. Yeah at least I know now they're being block so yeah you bring an excellent point. The last ones I still wanted to make sure they didn't get 'missed' or whatever might've been going through my mind. Now to breathe... and then go to bed!
On another note, the pages this guy targets are usually the same, only deviating slightly. The usernames seem generated and are fairly similar. He is pretty fast but I dunno if he's using a script. It seems like he/she is though. Oh well. --Stux 07:02, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
I'll just answer my own questions with links, how's that? --Stux 07:09, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

All this blocking crap

Ok, problem solved, thanks for helping. But, what it said was something like, This IP adress has been blocked by Homestar Coder for some bad editing thingy. Initial something was "wow."

:There is the possabillity that we could've made a mistake, (Which is what i think happened), in which case, you can contact Homestar Coder. Sorry for the inconvienience. That's pretty much all I can remember. Sorry. — talk Bubsty edits 03:44, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

+be

What does (+be) stand for?--Stephen923

I'm not sure, it depends on the context, where did you see that? Was it one of my edits? If it was one of mine it most likely means I added the word "be" to the text. Can you provide a link to the edit? Thanks! --Stux 16:54, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Oh! Now I know what you're talking about! At the time, some main pages had a "Button Effects" title, though most didn't. As a result I went ahead and added that title to all the main pages that didn't so that they would be uniform and would look better. The first change I'm sure I labeled "button effects", but all subsequent changes I made i labeled "+be" to refer to that first change (to mean that I was adding(+) a "button effects title) and to save time while I was doing all 20 or so pages. I hope that clears everything up! --Stux 21:24, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Proxies

Er, why aren't you filling in the data? Those shortcuts aren't accurate. — It's dot com 05:25, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

For example, on 62.101.126.223, you put 62.101.96.0/19. But I get 62.101.126.208 - 62.101.126.223, with a range of 62.101.126.208/ 28. — It's dot com
In that case, the /19 domain does come up on the page as a parent to the range you put. So both appear. Better to use the more specific ones though. --Jay (Gobble) 05:29, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Edit Conflict x2 That is all of the information that is provided by the whois. As per my question on the talk page. Oh wait I just realized I got it backwards... GRRRRR!!!! Well I'm not going to bed anytime soon. --Stux 05:30, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
So to be clear... use the /28 in the example above, NOT the /19 which is more general cuz it uses less bits that don't change... right!? --Stux 05:31, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Right. --Jay (Gobble) 05:33, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Got it! --Stux 05:33, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, the bigger the number, the more specific the range. Anything below /24 may end up being too general for us to use, so the higher the number, the better. — It's dot com 05:35, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Homestar User

On the other hand, weren't you a little hard on Homestar? (I can't believe nobody'd taken that name before now!) The word "panties" has, after all, itself appeared on H*R, and Marzipan's dubious anatomy makes it more of an improbability than an "obscenity." Of course the edit should have been deleted, but I was just going to do that without comment, or maybe with a somewhat gentler comment. —AbdiViklas 01:04, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Hmmmm you make a good point. I, myself don't remember the word panties, maybe I do ... vaguely, however the way he used it did not sound like something TBC would say in a H*R cartoon. I've been having a bit of a bad day so i'm feeling kind of enforcerish. I give you full permission to make my warning gentler as you see fit. I do beleive though, that some kind of warning should be necessary. I leave it in your capable hands. Thanks! --Stux 01:08, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
And yes, I do myself wonder why no one ever took it before. --Stux 01:08, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
morning routine and the reference in the easter egg of rampage were what I was thinking of (which is pretty hilarious—in connection with Strong Mad), though a search shows that it's also in the radio show in geddup noise. —AbdiViklas 01:14, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Huh? What? Whatcha' talking about Willis!? I mean Abdi...? O_o --Stux 01:17, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Concerning why the name hasn't been taken: I was under the impression that we weren't supposed to create user names that are the names of H*R characters (although I'm having a devil of a time finding the page that says that). Heimstern Läufer 01:17, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I honestly don't know -- I hadn't heard that, and there's definitely a Homesar around. And a Coach B which doesn't count. I dunno. It would make sense though. I'll see if there's something in the guidelines, though I would doubt that, since ppl would likely read the guidelines after they've registered :). Also, Heimstern, I feel bad i'm not helping you out there in the ProxyBlocks field. At this rate you'll have section 5 finished in no time! --Stux 01:21, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
I was talking about where "panties" has been used on the site (such a strange word. I have several female friends who absolutely refuse to use it!). And as for the names, you're remembering the log in screen itself: "Avoid choosing a username that is identical to the name of a Homestar Runner character, toon, place, etc." So I guess that's why I've never seen it before! —AbdiViklas 01:24, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Oh! I see what you mean now. Yeah they are pretty darn funny. But like I said before, those are still quite different in their meaning and taste. And you're right that's where it says that. I guess it hasn't been enforced? And its not in bold, which most people likely would ignore?--Stux 01:33, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, as per the ones you mentioned. User_talk:Homsar shows how Interrupter Jones handled it about a year ago (though that user continued making edits until December, when they ended abruptly). —AbdiViklas 02:11, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Yeah that is to my shame... I'll see what I can retract, or add. Or something. I think my terseness did not help. Ugh I'm so not with it.--Stux 02:28, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Nonsense; you've been "with it" all day (although the fact that I know that doesn't speak well for the state of my homework for tomorrow!). —AbdiViklas 02:45, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Lol! Thanks I appreciate that. Though I definitely don't feel "with it". It even took me a while to get what Thunderbird was saying in his latest trivia (yeah I peeked). Let's just say it didn't make much sense at all at the time. :) As for your homework... well... um... get to it? I too am trying to force myself to get this networking homework done. Despite the fact that it's super easy and its not due till tommorrow before midnight, doesn't help much. --Stux 02:50, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
I actually didn't get Thunderbird's message at first either: I missed the word "other", which, needless to say, changes the meaning quite a bit. Well, suffice to say my reaction would have been the same as Strong Bad's reaction to Homestar's falling for him! But eventually I figured out what it really meant. And, like both of you, I really should be doing some homework (in my case, reading about neoclassicism and Stravinsky). Heimstern Läufer 03:06, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Sounds like fun! I'll stick to traceroutes and network routing algorithms for the time being, thank you very much! ;) Both of me wish you good luck. --Stux 03:14, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
Thunderbird's trivia was no doubt made more confusing by the fact that you aren't actually German, are you, Läufy? (And as for your homework, I can summarize for you:
  • Stravinsky's neoclassicism was one of the earliest examples of corporate downsizing among composers. After the roaring success (?) of Rite, he was planning a lavish production incorporating a Russian fable into grand pageant, as he had with The Firebird. There were to be grand song-and-dance numbers showcasing the soldier and the devil, chorus scenes with the inhabitants of the soldier's native village, and a live jazz combo on stage in addition to the full pit orchestra. The task of casting the soldier and the devil was difficult, since they would need to be not only strong operatic vocalists, but skillful violinists and trained balletists as well. In the end war broke out, and Stravinsky was forced to settle for a few instruments and people talking. This dramatic reduction in artistic forces was to subsequently inspire that other wartime masterpiece, the Quartet for the End of Time. —AbdiViklas 03:24, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
  • So, I was too busy with ProxyBlocks yesterday to respond to this, but now I will: Holy crap, Abdi, what a load of tripe! Heimstern Läufer 04:34, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
LOL!!! Man you guys crack me up! --Stux 04:38, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
I thought you'd appreciate that. Sorry, Stux, for using your user talk page for inside jokes! (Though it does kind of make me want to see "A Soldier's Tale—On Ice," or "A Soldier's Tale!: The Musical"!) —AbdiViklas 04:40, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
No worries man! I love it! Even if it's slightly over my head ... slightly being in astronomical units (A.U.) of course. :) I have to see "A Solider's Tale 3" before I can get up to speed with the canon. --Stux 05:18, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Yes, you're right, Dutch Marzipan. That "which not ver goed was!" The moral: Free Translators are complete crap.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: Duth is a funny-lookin' language. For more translational hilarity, examine this website, exploiting the services of free translators for the purposes of silliness. —AbdiViklas 21:46, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

*ahem* Quality Is the First Occupation. Quote from that page: "You'd think that the testers would favor more straightforward test data such as "We will bomb Washington D.C. at 6:00 PM on Thursday" over pithy English sayings that one rarely encounters in Russian scientific articles, but that doesn't make for amusing anecdotes." — It's dot com
Yeah! Duth is a funny language indeed Abdi! Now, again I ask, why does the Sandbox not have a discussion page filled with stuff? I mean it's not like we need it or anything, but still... it's the principle of the matter! --Stux 01:07, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
What, you want a Sandbox Archive pages? "The Sandbox's Greatest Hits"? --DorianGray
Actually, I wasn't even thinking of that when I wrote it, I just wanted a Sandbox talk page! ;) But now that you mention it, I did talk about something like that before once in someone's talk page (I tried to remember where but I can't, does anybody remember?) Someone made some weird edit (I think I called the section "trolls write the darndest things"), which was reverted, but we went on to talk about how we could keep an archive of stuff like this much like the Big wiki does. You know, this is what I get for making silly comments and then getting serious discussions out of them! I should stop shouldn't I? --Stux 01:24, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Is that more or less preferable to having a serious discussion and it just dissolves into silly comments? --DorianGray
Lol! I don't know. That question is far deeper and more philosophical than what I'd like to take on right now :) --Stux 01:33, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Having "The Sandbox's Greatest Hits" is a good idea, strangely similar to Wikipedia's "Best of Bad Jokes and Other Deleted Nonsense". - KookykmanImage:kookysig.gif(t)(c)(r)
That was my talk page! And yeah, I think the "Best of The Sandbox" is a great idea! It could make a nice coffee table book; or maybe it's like one of those CDs you get from NPR with a $100 donation (dang NPR). I think I might just start culling those moments of fleeting hilarity myself wherever I find them and putting them in a user subpage. This thread would certainly be one. —AbdiViklas 02:51, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Oh, and about the Dutch thing: As far as I'm concerned, Dutch looks like German spelled by a two-year-old. I can usually read it fairly well because of the similarities in vocabulary and grammar, but the spelling is quite different. Heimstern Läufer 03:13, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Oh that's where it was! I tried looking for it and I was sure I'd used the word darndest, but it wouldn't show up in the search! I just realized I misspelled the word as dardnest. Oops. So yeah, darndest is misspelled in that entry and I'm not gonna fix it. Nope. Not at all. I'm just mention it here. Too bad the trolling I posted then doesn't sound as funny as it did the first time I posted it. I wonder what I was on back then. --Stux 04:59, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Featured Article

Hey there, Stux. I don't really want to get into a revert war about whether the colors in Template:featuredarticle are the same or not, but you mentioned in [44] that you found that they actually were the same. Well, I too have checked, on both a laptop (LCD) and a desktop (CRT) and the result has always appeared the same to me, in that the colors contrast slightly. I had found a near-perfect match with said converter, and I believe that it is the correct color. May I have your opinion? — Lapper (talk) 20:44, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Sure no problem. Thank you for posting this, I did not want a revert war either. Unfortunately, this may be a more techincal issue than we both might have anticipated. I think I notice the slight tonal difference between the background and the image. (Actually, I think this might be for me a visual artifact). Unfortunately, the RGB combination that you gave presented an even higher contrast between the image and background colors, which is why I reverted it. If you see your RGB combination as the correct color in both your monitors, perhaps we might be running into some obscure problems with our hardware? It is certainly strange. I have GIMP installed on my machine at home and will inspect the RGB values that it gives me and compare them with what we have. Actually Windows paint gave me Red: 248 Green:216 Blue:163. Which converted to hex would equate to: Red: F8, Green: D8, Blue: A3. Which would mean that numerically #F8D8A3 would be the correct color code. (#FFD196 would give it too much red, and not enough blue). I don't think E.L.Cool would've created the template with color differences, so it baffles me that both of your monitors would show a difference in the color combinations for that page. From what i see #F8D8A3 has to be the right color combination. I'm wondering, have you modified your monobook.css file? Have you tried looking at the page as an anonymous user? --Stux 21:49, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Here's the wierd thing. I just rechecked it with my laptop and it looks like it is the right color. However, ever other computer at my school shows the subtle color difference. Perhaps there's a happy medium, or the image may need to be re-uploaded with a different background. — Lapper (talk) 18:39, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
Someone should have told me about this discussion. Maybe there's another option. Someone with better image skilz could crop the image around Homestar and the star so it wouldn't be white, but simply not there. That way the background could simply be behind the picture. Can this be done? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 19:42, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
I was going to suggest that we get someone else to chime in on this thing. Yes there is a way to do this, and that is to make the background of the image transparent (there is a "transparency color " that many formats (includnig PNG i'm pretty sure) can use). I think I can do that with the GIMP (the hard part is cutting the border "just right"), I'll see what I can do. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. --Stux 19:45, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
Ok! I uploaded a version with a transparent background and it works! Unfortunately, wikimedia has not cleared out the thumbnail version and replaced it with the new one, and so ... nevermind, it has been cleared but you will not see the changes until you go on your browser and either refresh the whole page or go to the image and refresh that. Otherwise you will not see the changes. One curious thing: my monitor at home displayed Lapper's colors lighter than the monitors at school did. Oh well, welcome to the wild world of color correction and tone. Just ask Dot com, or the guys that work with color with Dot com's magazine (not sure if he works with color himself). No two monitors display the same thing the same way (kinda like going to Best buy and looking at all the HDTV's and how different their image qualities are). But it's still strange that Lapper's school computers displayed different colors for pixels that were supposed to have the same RGB values. Anyway, let me know if it looks ok or what. --Stux 20:18, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
Nice work dude. Now if we even wanted to change to background color it would be much easier. You rock. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 20:48, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
Well, thank you E.L. Cool. I'm glad it works! Lapper, let me know if you can see the changes. --Stux 21:35, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Lol! Ah! I knew someone would come to me with that! Just not this quickly. This I actually wrote (well assuming i got the first line right), during a workshop I had in college where one of the Biology Teachers (yes, Biology) who is an avid Haiku-ist gave us the task to write a Haiku. Among some of the things that we were taught: Japanese haiku's do not always strictly follow the 5-7-5 rule. Some of these even portray some picture with irony or surprise in it. I'm not sure exactly where she got her style (since it was so long ago) but it was that style I was following when I wrote it! :) --Stux 17:12, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi there

Hey, Stux, how's going? I've been thinking that I haven't talked atcha in a while, so I just thought I'd leave you a little message. School's back in for me and it's quickly beginning to kick my butt. Too much Greek music theory. My French class is going OK. It's not too hard so far, although I'm quickly learning that having learned German is not a great aid to learning French. The skills you need for the two languages are so different. Anyway, I hope all's going well for you. Keep on tranglin'! Heimstern Läufer 04:47, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Hey Heimstern! Thanks for dropping a note! It is very kind of you :). Anyway I am doing well, I got back from PR last week and I already have tons of stuff to do here. I'll be writing papers till tongue turns green. Speaking of which I have one that I gotta work on that I really don't feel like working on it. Which is why I'm editing the wiki! Go figure :). Greek music theory eh? I didn't even know such a class exited. How's that different from um, regular music theory? Is this music from the height of the Greek Empire? You'll be fine in french. If you know latin or spanish it might help a little. Someday I'd like to learn german, but someday I'd also like to learn one of Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin), Japanese or Korean. Totally different languages so I'll have to pick one, but i dunno. So I take it things are going well for you? Save the gobs of work coming your way (mine too!) Take it easy! --Stux 16:30, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
Today was our seminar on Greek music theory. It's music theory from ancient Greece. Basically the oldest Western music theory we have. It went OK, all things considered. Now it's time to work on medieval theory. As for French: the difficulty is that I don't have any real experience in Spanish or Latin. Learning German has had the positive effect of giving me the experience of having learnt another language, but also the negative effect of strengthening all the wrong points for learning a Romance language. What do I mean by that? I mean that where English has similarities with German, they are usually differences with French. (Already I remember several times when my teacher said, "That's like in English" and I thought to myself "Hmm. It's different in German".) But that class is still going pretty well. I just have to learn a new set of habits (like sticking adjectives after nouns). So that's the fun I've been up to lately. Sounds like you've had a dose of it yourself. Talk atcha later! Guessbook

Hey! Over on the ongoing-exercise-in-situational-irony page, I just rearranged a couple of my ideas. Under Other I had started out with a suggestion to restrict guestbooks to talk pages, which I really only continued to entertain for a few more hours. A few comments later I made a second point that really applied more to the context of the section (If the practice is ended, what?) about leaving them and tagging them like archived STUFF arguments instead of deleting. Now I've shifted it so the second suggestion is the one being voted on. Lower down you had entered a vote saying "I go for this option I'm voting for"; I've taken the liberty of keeping it intact; if you don't in fact like that idea please change it to a non-vote. Thanks! —AbdiViklas 08:42, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

New forum account

Hi, Stux! I couldn't help but notice that a new user with the name "Stux" signed up an account with my forum today. Would that be you? If so, thanks for joining and I hope to see you around StrongFans. If not, no worries. Thanks. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 17:30, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, actually, it's funny that you mention that! Yeah it was me trying to set up an account for research with regards to this request (I was trying to find the xls file) but I had a problem creating the account: when i hit register, it gave me the following error:
Persits.MailSender.4 error '800a0006'

550 not local host geocities.com, not a gateway

/portal2006/forum/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 269
So it turns out i'm registered, but I can never get my confirmation email to arrive for this reason. (I'm pretty sure I typed it in correctly). So I just gave up on that. I didn't know you ran strongfans.com! At least now I can like bug report to you or something. --Stux 17:35, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
That happened to me too, but mine said "nerdshack.com, not a gateway". Then I tryed it with my netscape email, and that didnt work either. Sorry for using you talk page Stux DBK! 17:42, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Oh! Not a problem! By all means! --Stux 17:45, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know about the registration bug. I have since enabled your account (no confirmation needed), so you should be able to log in without difficulty! —THE PAPER PREEEOW 15:04, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Cool, thanks! No problem. Glad to help. As a side note, do you still have the EmailDatabase.xls file linked from this page I was asking about in its talk page? I'm going to try to search for it, but if you know where it's at, it would be a lot easier. --Stux 17:45, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Filmography

I don't really have much of an opinion on what you brought up, but there is something else I can pass on to you, if you're up to filmography problems. Category:Limozeen compared to Category:Limozeen Filmography. Just what do we do? Seperate film for each of them, for all of them together, a bit of both? I'm not really up to it right now, if you wanna take charge of it. Thanks. Thunderbird 23:53, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

I have made the filmography a subcat of limozeen and moved all strict filmographies to that cat and everything else to the other. Hopefully this should work. --Stux 01:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Greetings! First, sorry for the long delay in replying. Second, thank you for welcoming me... twice! And third, yeah I've been gone quite a bit lately, been focusing mainly on school related stuff and its peripheries (I moved in to a nicer apt mid June!) And since I had been wiki-ing a LOT last semester, my wiki-avoidance system (having a separate account) worked all too well... ok a little TOO well actually. So my wiki-ing has been relegated to... well... minor stuff. very, Very, VERY minor stuff. Okay like ULTRA minor stuff. Hows life here in the wiki and treating ya? --Stux 22:27, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

How does Star Wars relate to teen movies? Oh well, I'll think about that one later. --Stux 19:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I already said what my favorite movies were on my user talk page somewhere. Also, the teen movies aren't necessarily for teens, but at least have teens as main characters. Content warning

I noticed this edit summary — and thought I'd mention that Template:inlinecontentwarning has a feature for changing the warning if necessary. If you want to change the text, put the new text after a vertical bar, and if you also want to change the mouse-over message, put the new message after a second vertical bar, like so: {{inlinecontentwarning|illegal pony fight warning|This link contains VERY illegal pony fights}} produces This link contains VERY illegal pony fights illegal pony fight warning. I didn't make the change myself 'cause I didn't know what you had in mind. Laters! Trey56 17:39, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, to be fair, he was the one who broke it. :P — It's dot com 02:49, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Unfortunately, because of how the template substitution thingies work, you can either make a template transclude nicely or subst nicely... ideally I'd make it so that {{sbemail}} was subst'ed in that thing too, but to make it so that that happens nicely (without including the entire switch every time), I'd end up breaking all the times that {{sbemail}} is transcluded anywhere (which is a lot of places). There is a way to make it work either way, but it's rather hackish and unstable and hard to use... I don't much like it. --phlip TC 02:53, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

This is a shot in the dark, but could it be The Hudsucker Proxy? They mention both gnus and "Bromo" in that movie. Trey56 17:18, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh, and the scenes are the one where Jennifer Jason Lee is talking to the guy from The Evil Dead and simultaneously helping out the guy making the crossword puzzle ("Gnu! Or emu!"), and the scene with the cop and the cab driver who are talking to each other while watching Jennifer Jason Leigh con Tim Robbins. Trey56 17:26, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah quite a shot in the dark indeed! Your shot in the dark was quite as good as Einstein said ours with fission would be before the atomic age! QOW

Okay, i'll give you brownie points for guessing the answer. This answer may be true (since you googled it), but it wasn't the answer i was looking for. This answer (or one of) is that cats don't have a collarbone. If you or I were to jump and land on all fours, we could break our collarbone. Cats don't have that risk, so they land on all fours with no injury. For getting a right answer, however, you and Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! recieve this fine userbox.

QOW?

Have fun and check back often. -Zerlock1124

Thanks for thr userbox! Though what I actually said was it was just a guess and I didn't google it. So I really don't know how accurate this is. As for the inner ear thing, I'm not really sure if balancing from that is a human-only, mammal-only or vertebrate-only thing. Some research is in order. Again, thanks for the userbox! --Stux 05:42, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

'k, you got the question right. That's two in a row. if you answer the next one two, take a break. Below is the user box, along with another one dealing with VA Tech, since that was on your user page. If you don't want it, you can delete it.

Thanks for the userboxes! I don't usually have any on my homepage here, but that just might change. We'll see. Actually, I think I know where I'll put em. As for answering so many questions... sorry that wasn't my original intention. I wanted to answer a math one but then I figured I'd give a stab at the QOW (which again was just an educated guess and I'm still not sure if it constitutes as a right answer). Anywho, when your math problem came up, I couldn't help but to answer it! Now to try to beat Trey's quiz! BTW I dunno if you're aware or not, but this wiki's convention is to leave conversations in one page (different from wikipedia). The reason for this is that they're easier to read, and it's not a big problem since we don't get the volume of edits the big wiki does and so we can easily keep track of replies through the watchlist. --Stux 00:14, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Filmographies in character category

I'm a little confused as to why you just put all the filmographies in the character categories. I mean, the filmographies obviously aren't characters, and now you have to scroll through all the filmographies to get to the actual category content. Maybe we could make a "Main Character Filmography" category instead? Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 20:13, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm that's probably a better idea. Actually I was thinking about creating a {{CategoryMainFilmography}} (smaller name would be better) template for these categories since they all have the same information, and then just change the template. What do you think? --Stux 20:16, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Meh, not so sure about the template. I think it's probably okay how it was (with maybe the new main filmography category added). But it probably wouldn't hurt either, so, uh... yeah. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 20:22, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Most of these categories have similar wording but inconsistent formatting (e.g. some have {{CategoryTOC}}'s others don't). But for this case I'd like some "yes"/"no" feedback before proceeding. As for Category:Main Character Filmography I'll start on that soon (later if I do the template). --Stux 20:30, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
All right then, the templates sound okay. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 20:46, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I changed the template name, made it and then ditched it. I went ahead and fixed the cats in each page manually! :S Having the template didn't seem worth all that trouble. --Stux 20:53, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

I love that monty python reference! "What is the 44th mersenne prime number?" i am a college student with a math major and i love number patterns like this. may i use it elsewhere? Kevin G. Dannerson 02:47, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

ps it is debatable if there are different mersenne primes after #39 between the other ones. if there aren't,then the 44th known mersenne prime is 232,582,657 - 1, which has 9,808,358 digits. (don't you love wikipedia) Kevin G. Dannerson 02:52, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Sweet! Glad you liked the reference! Feel free to use the lines anywhere you like. Just make sure you use a <references> tag and link to my page otherwise i'll be forced to use the [citation needed] tag! ;)
Actually, you are absolutely right. Since the solution space between the 44th and 39th mersenne primes hasn't been fully checked there may be others hidden (though I personally doubt it). But yeah, 232,582,657 - 1 is the 44th Mersenne Prime*!!! I myself am a math geek as well so I enjoy talking math stuff with whomever is interested! (My BS was in CS and Math.)

I hate to do this, pal, but you're over the personal image limits. Image:1overn.PNG, Image:Black ribbon 1.jpg and Image:Evil homestar.PNG. Not sure which one you want to lose, but that first one is in a talk archive and nowhere else. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:16, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I've been meaning to bring this up for a while, but never got around to it. And no one had noticed till now :-p. Anyway, Image:1overn.PNG was going to be my intended target. It was uploaded by IRF and I volunteered to adopt it for the time being. Though it was noted at some point that it was unnecessary since it was part of a convo. So I'm guessing it should still be somewhat of a legit image. Anyway, so I'm definitely keeping the other two. Not sure what the options are for 1overn's survival. I've gone ahead and removed the template linking to me. --Stux 01:51, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

It's no big deal. Templates can be really finicky about even the slightest details sometimes. --Stux 15:10, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Starteen Signature

Homestar-winner edited my signature to validate tags by replacing them with span tags. So shouldn't that person got their edit reverted when it happened? ColdReactive 01:40, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Your attitude is curious. Instead of arguing that your edit should be allowed based on precedent, you want to retroactively disallow the edit to your signature, even though you know that validating sigs is okay. As it turns out, before you even posted on this talk page, Stux reverted his edit with apologies to you. I gotta say, your style seems to have an unsavory tit-for-tat flavor about it, and it is rather unbecoming. — It's dot com 01:53, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
And you'd be happy just to ban me, wouldn't you. I'm sorry, but Stux did that while I was making up this reply, so I didn't know until after it was too late. ColdReactive
That's why I said "as it turns out". I knew you didn't know at the time. My comments about your attitude and approach don't have anything to do with the chronology of edits to this page versus other pages. — It's dot com 02:02, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Fine then, you can just stay in your little hole and be that way. ColdReactive 02:04, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm afraid I don't understand your meaning. — It's dot com 02:11, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
That's probably a good thing. ColdReactive 02:14, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I didn't say I didn't think it was a condescending reply. That's easy enough to tell. I just mean I have no idea what you could be referring to or what way you think I am. — It's dot com 02:22, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

P.D. Si no puedes, no pasa nada ElTruco (Talk | contribs) 14:50, 20 November 2009 EST (left unsigned)

Hablamos. --Stux 17:35, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Ok, Stux, if someting happen keep me informed, all right, now I'm going to translate more things, if you have time for revising, I will appreciate. Later.--RetroX.NES (ElTruco over here) 15:43, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

WikiGnoming

Hi! I just wanted to thank you for being a WikiGnome. It's nice to know that someone is willing to volunteer to help make the site a better place. --DENNIS 15:04, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Um, thank you for the kind words. :) Though there are other WikiGnomes around that are far more active than I. I just do a little bit to help keep the site running smoothly. --Stux 15:08, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Videlectrix infobox

Appreciate your contribution to Template:Infobox Videlectrix Game‎! I still have trouble with conditional programming and couldn't crack the interwiki links, so thanks for improving it. -- Bleu Ninja 23:41, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Thanks Bleu Ninja! These templates can be hairy so that's understandable! I had to even copy the code from an existing template and it took a bit to figure out the important bits. That said, I've gotten a better grasp of them in recent years so let me know if there's anything I can help with! --Stux 21:31, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

Podstar Runner "Cover Flow" intro/outro

RE: this edit summary: you can still see the intro and outro on the podstar version of "Email Thunder", which has never been taken off the site. The description inline flows a little weird, the problem seems to be that the other covers are "actual album art seen elsewhere in H*R toons (and therefore described elsewhere on the wiki)" while the Strong Bad Email cover was invented just for this animation and therefore needs to be described (or I suppose we could just say "see the image to the right of this paragraph". -- Bleu Ninja 19:39, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
