[edit] STUFF testing

Some HSR themed username, we are testing the new format. Come see how it works. — It's dot com 09:18, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

OK. I'm a little more busy today than I thought I would be but I'll try to get some testiong done. --~~~ 11:43, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Signature

If you're going to make your signature "~~~", then you need to put "nowiki" tags on each side of it. You see, everytime someone edits a page with your sig in it, the "~~~" in you sig is replaced with the editers sig. This is what your sig needs to look like:
[[User:Some HSR themed username|<nowiki>~~~</nowiki>]].
This won't change the way it looks at all. Thanks. —FireBird|Talk 18:35, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I noticed that yesterday, but I thought I changed it. I'll make sure it works this time. ~~~ 18:40, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Test sig [[User:Some HSR themed username|Someimage:small_logo.pngthemed username]]

Cool. Thanks. —FireBird|Talk 18:44, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Your signature needs to be your name, not ~~~, especially in votes. We shouldn't have to follow a link to find out who someone is. Thanks. — It's dot com 19:29, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)

You can just hover over it to make my username appear, or check the destination link at the bottom if you don't want to follow the link. I also think that if I always use this then eventually it will become synonymous with my username, plus it's a lot shorter. If you still want me to change it then I guess I will. ~~~ 19:35, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)
If you want to change your name to an unpronouncable symbol à la Prince, be my guest, but you shouldn't choose something that's already reserved by the system software. It's confusing and, as you've already found out, has the potential for bugs. A suggestion for a short form of your name: "HSR username". Just a thought. — It's dot com 19:56, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Wow. I've never been trolled before. I wonder whether the targeted users personally did something specific, or whether it was just random vandalism. Thank you to whoever of you moved my page back where it belongs. Wish I could have been there to help you fight this guy. (And I think a permanent ban for him is too light a sentence.) — It's dot com 14:56, 11 Jul 2005 (UTC)

The users s/he targeted (Fahooglewitz and I), both left notes on his/her talk page saying stop it, but I'm not sure why you were targeted as well. For all the good work you've been doing, perhaps? It's my first experience being trolled as well. You're welcome for the reversion, it was nothing compared to what else I had to deal with. (I reverted myself probably 5 times!) Seconding that sentencing remark. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 15:45, 11 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know.--KB 21:29, 10 October 2005 (UTC)KB

[edit] Removing STUFF pages

Hey HSR username. How was/is your vacation? You can't just remove items from the STUFF index. You have to copy the verdicts to the respective talk pages and to the master verdicts archive. — It's dot com 00:03, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I should've guessed I had to do something else. My mistake, won't do it again. Vacation is still good, but winding down unfortunately. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 03:36, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Reverting

Thank you I did that by accident sorry! I was learning how to add categories (well copying the code) and pasting it where I was gonna put it and instead I edited the source. I tried to revert but I guess that's not something I can do. (Instead I was gonna do it manually). Man you guys are fast! Again my apologies.

--Stux 22:48, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)

No worries. You can revert just as well as I can, I just have about 1000 edits' experience. See the Wiki Troll page for info on reverting. A lot of times tests like that go awry, no harm done. Keep up the good edits you've been making recently! small_logo.pngUsername-talk 22:53, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] sock puppet

aw crap, you caught me. That was a user that I made. I wanted to experiment with a sig, and not mess with mine.

talk Bubsty edits 00:37, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I would like to take this opportunity to warn you against creating Sock Puppet accounts, as it's generally frowned upon. If you wanted to experiment, you could always edit yours, then when you're finished go to the history and get your old sig back. That will keep everybody happy. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 00:41, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)
oh. k sry, i didnt know. — talk Bubsty edits 00:49, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)
You could also make a second signature subpage, like /sig2. Do your experimenting there. Once you've finished testing, remove any links to your second subpage and mark it for deletion. — It's dot com 01:21, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Oh. thanks. Oh yeah, and happy birthday! Congardulations! — talk Bubsty edits 01:49, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Thanks! small_logo.pngUsername-talk 01:51, 29 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] huh?

I'm confused; did you just mean to revert the monster truck edit by anonymous and then put it right back in again? notstrongorbad

No, I reverted it thinking that the previous version was correct, seeing as how it had all of the details. But then It's dot com asked why I reverted it in the IRC channel, so I went back and looked at it. Lo and behold, the edit was true. Thats what I get for assuming things. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 03:42, 30 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The Moon

In personal favorites there are several bottles lying on the ground, but Strong Bad 'says' "drank a glass of soy sauce". The reference should therefore be "glass", not "bottle". B 17:34, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

True, but there are no glasses in sight and the bottles are made of glass, and right there on the ground. He also said a glass, and there were several bottles, so we don't know how much of that is truth and how much he just said to get the general idea across without going into to much detail. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 17:37, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

All true as well, but in that case, the note should at least be "several bottles" as we can see at least 5. The Cheat drank some as well, and the rest is speculation, which doesn't have much room here. I'm of the opinion that the whole point of referencing 'anything' is to help the reader figure out what is going on. Consistency with the dialogue makes that possible. B 17:55, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

That is reasonable, but I know when I remember that part of personal favorites I always think of the bottles of soy sauce lying on the ground, not the passing reference to a glass that he actually says. I just think that even if we both agree to change it to glass then somebody will eventually come and change it back because the scene is more memorable than the quote. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 18:02, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

That's the difference. I (and most of my friends) are quoters, and the visuals are of passing importance. Fair enough to leave it if you think that is what most of the people will remember. At least grant me the "several bottles", since you said yourself that is the image you recall. I'll be very satisfied with that. B 18:12, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Go for it. I was going to change it to several whaen I made the edit, and didn't for some reason. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 18:40, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Well played. Thanks Mate. B 02:15, 2 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Reverting Tips/Suggestions

Oh, haldo HSRu! You may have your own style with this (as I did), and maybe I'm a little too obsessive-compulsive about it all, but I want to show you something that I find to be easier. When you revert an edit that doesn't need to be explained, you can just type "rv" in the edit summary. Also, if combatting vandalism or trolling, you can just type "rv/v" or "rvv". I find that much easier, especially when fighting flood-vandalism, because you don't have to type so much, you are less likely to make typos, and people who really need to see revert note know what it means, anyway. Hope that helps, if you wish to adopt this style as your own. <3 —BazookaJoe 01:35, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the thoughts. I have been making more spelling mistakes lately, I'll give you that. My summary box has a popup window that lists the last few things I've entered as summaries, but I have fallen out of the habit of using that. Perhaps I will switch over to shorthand, because I've been working a lot more lately. And then of course there's the times when I feel like writing something different in the box for a change, just to mix things up a bit. Anyway, it's nice to hear from such a respected reverter/trollbuster such as yourself, and I will continue the tradition in your footsteps, seeing as how now you simply use the standard sysop revert. Man, I feel like this thread needs a Homestar quote in it though... Let's see.... I think I'll go with DIGITIZED MARZIPAN: "Strong Bad is on point." Catch ya later.
small_logo.pngUsername-talk 04:37, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
P.S. Holy bum on a stick!! Well done with the WoW attack this night, sorry I missed it.
Thanks, both guys. I had been wondering whether there was a standard way of doing it, and what it might be; shorter is definitely better! —notstrongorbad 05:42, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, in response to that, the long drawn out "reverted edit of blah blah blah, changed back to last version by blah blah blah" is the automatic summary of a sysop revert. the rv's are much easier. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 05:45, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Heh, that was a record blocking spree I went on last night. I just found a bunch of sleeper accounts created during the 2 Oct attack. Lots of fun. Btw, if you ever need to explain a rv in the edit summary, you can do what I've always done (and still do) "rv - reason". —BazookaJoe 13:40, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] 50K Marathon

HI! Nice project! Are you going to do the 20-something hours of key tapping stright, or a couple of KM a day? And can you printscreen the part where the track is going blank? I realy want to see it, as well as the part where it comes back. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:29, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

What is up my man. My ace in the hole. I'm doing a few KM a day, and doing it for a lot of days. The blackness part is at 1K, so I can't printscreen it because I passed it already. Sorry. It was worth the time if you want to do it yourself though. I am planning on printscreening when I reach 49.99 and putting it on my page though. (I've found it's good if you listen to music or read while you racewalk, or else you will go insane.) small_logo.pngUsername-talk 05:34, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
I can relate. I tried it once and got to 0.65 K. Then I went insane. I don't think I ever really recovered. — Lapper (talk) 05:36, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Can't do it. I got so angry last time I clicked the X botton at the corner of the window as hard as I can! (Angrily!!). What I do neeed is some kind of elctronical gizmo to click the bottons for me. That whould be great. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:48, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)
OK, here's what we'll do. After I do my 50, I'll go back and do another 1 for you and take the shot. By then it'll be cakewalk. Deal? Deal. You'll just have to wait a bit. And believe me, it will be a bit. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 05:52, 8 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I actually use Trillian, but opened AIM to check on something. That'll teach me to use that cursed software ever again. I actually told myself from the start that this would happen, but I've been saving myself at the last minute every time. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 22:42, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

abdi is right. i'm eleven, and even i don't use im. well, sorry about the loss. that has to be like, the most frustrating thing ever. Seriously (Talk) 15:43, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Here's an idea: if you use Windows XP, you can create an account JUST for racewalking, and only have one window open: the browser window for the game, and NEVER close the window, log off the account (use switch user instead) or shut down the computer. If you need to do anything else you switch back to your account! --Stux 23:14, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
If I may comment, Max OS X features that too. — Lapper (talk) 23:18, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What is TTATOT?

What does that stand for, I've only seen it here in the wiki? I R F 13:04, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Ooh! Oooh! I know this one! It's This, That And The Other Thing, if I'm not mistaken, and it's synonymous with "irrelevant" or "obvious." — THE SMOKING MONKEY 13:09, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Meh, not quite. Suppose there was a submarine action sequence in a toon. If a fun fact read, "This submarine action sequence could refer to The Hunt for Red October, or it could refer to Crimson Tide, or it could refer to U-571," then it would be a TTATOT. When something could refer to lots of things with equal probability, then it likely refers to nothing. On the other hand, maybe in the example above the toon really does resemble Red October more than the others. In that case you would delete the extra stuff and keep only the good reference. — It's dot com 13:38, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

However, "You don't have arms" was something Strong Mad said, dealing with the very issue the article brings up. So why did you undo my perfectly good edit(s)??? --NERD42  email  talk   h²g²  pedia  uncyc  00:19, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

There was a long discussion of the name on the talk page, and "Lack of Visible Arms" was what the community decided on. Not every title has to expressly be a line from Homestar Runner. --DorianGray
However there are two redirect pages, for anybody who would assume that is the page title. Thunderbird 00:39, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Also, where's the phrase The Cheat's Head Exploding on homestarrunner.com? We use that as a page name because it accuately describes the gag. Not all pages are named after TBC's conventions, and yes, we decided that would be best on the talk page. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 01:07, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations, Some HSR themed username, one of the funniest persons I have ever talked to. Your additions and dedication to the wiki is outstading and should be looked upon at. You deserve this promotion. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:33, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Block

Why were u blocked? --TheThin 00:26, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Heh, that was part of a test while we were recovering from the NSMC attacks of '05. Nothing serious, I think the block time was 4 minutes. A bit more is said on this here. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 00:29, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RaisedByACupOfCoffee

I don't trust him for some reson so keep an eye on him. --TheThin 00:24, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

The thing, A cupofcoffee has been a responsible and valuable contributor for a long time. He's tagged too many images to count with useful templates, among other things. I would say that there is nothing wrong with him. — Seriously (Talk) 02:06, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
No, The thing was thinking of RaisedByACupOfCoffee, not our beloved contributor, ACupOfCoffee. Has Matt? (talk) 02:08, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Whoops. Sorry, man. — Seriously (Talk) 02:09, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Why did you "rv" me? --TheThin 17:52, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Why does the page need to let the people know who the channel operators are? small_logo.pngUsername-talk 17:55, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
