Stinkoman 20X6
+
Stinkoman 20X6 is a side-scrolling platformer game which stars Stinkoman. Based on the Mega Man Classic Mega Man games, Stinkoman travels through distinctive sci-fi worlds and faces a gauntlet of foes to save his friend Pan Pan from the villainous Z Sabre. The game further parodies Japanese video games of the third generation of video game consoles with writing done in the manner of poor Japanese to English translations common to video games of that era.

Story
-
STINKOMAN and his pals 1-UP and PAN PAN live on Planet K in the year 20X6. This game is all about that. Don't expect any weepy princess crap, this is a STINKOMAN game! Or at least it was last time we checked! Maybe fighting? Maybe challenge?
+

-
THE CHOICE IS OURS!!
+
The game starts with Stinkoman winning a challenge against a robot named Tampo, which makes him want to go home. Upon arrival, 1-Up informs him that Pan Pan has been kidnapped; however, Stinkoman ignores this in favor of challenging Brody, whose bone caused him to choke on his chicken soup. He then takes a detour over a short wall, which happens to be a robot named Stlunko; Stinkoman beats it and takes its stone fist as a powerup.
-
The Controls
+
Seeing that Stinkoman has no interest in rescuing Pan Pan, 1-Up goes out to rescue him on his own. He takes Stinkoman's Power Crunch (a cassette tape) through the Lava Zone, prompting Stinkoman to follow him, protect it, and ultimately trade it for his stone fist, which ends up gone to shreds in a fight with a lava snake named Saargtsson. While the Power Crunch remains intact, the journey proves unsuccessful in rescuing Pan Pan, prompting 1-Up to set out from Stinkoman Headquarters once again. Stinkoman refuses to help a second time, so 1-Up goes to the moon alone. This attempt ends even worse than the last one, as 1-Up ends up carried off by the same silhouette that kidnapped Pan Pan.
-
This game keeps using ARROW KEYS to move Stinkoman around. It won't stop making him JUMP with the A key or SHOOT with the S key, either. You won't find this kind of quality in other countries!!
+
-
Level 1 - Go Home!
+
Stinkoman finally begins showing some concern for 1-Up, taking a brief moment to wonder how he's doing, before taking a vacation to the Pink Cloud Zone for recreational challenges. It's soon revealed that the shadowy kidnapper has been watching him. This figure tries to kill Stinkoman by pressing a red button that sends him to the Ice Zone; however, he quickly realizes that he can keep moving to survive the cold. The figure retaliates by trapping Stinkoman sad inside a wall; this doesn't work either, as Stinkoman promptly blasts a section out of the wall and escapes.
-
Stinkoman fighted a challenge and WINS! Help him get back home for some face treats.
+
At the end of the glitchy Negative Zone, Stinkoman defeats the "pile of junk" Ekersby, and finds that one of its eyes is a device showing 1-Up and Pan Pan's whereabouts: the end of level 10, where the red button is. This leads him to believe that they were the ones who red buttoned him, and finally heads off to level 10 for revenge. His destination (an evil fortress) is surrounded by an evil jungle, so he flies through it on his mostly cool ship, the Stinkowing. The shadowy figure launches a fleet in retaliation, including Harvax XVII, a robotic gangster full of prawns. This backfires on the shadowy figure; not only does Stinkoman defeat Harvax, but he eats the prawns inside, causing him to fall asleep at the fortress's doorstep while the figure grows impatient. 1-Up grows a prodigious beard and Pan Pan has a hundred babies.
-
JARO - A bouncing cup, Jaro will hop around until he's punded you down!
+
Reaching the fortress's inner sanctum, Stinkoman finds 1-Up and Pan Pan and comes face to face with the shadowy kidnapper, revealed to be Z Sabre. Z Sabre attempts to destroy Stinkoman so that he can become "the guy", but 1-Up tosses Stinkoman his Power Crunch, powering him up and allowing him to defeat Z Sabre. Refusing to admit defeat, Z Sabre unleashes his "pet", Mecha-Trogador; Stinkoman destroys the robot, but this causes its crystal heart to start exploding, forcing everyone to escape before the fortress collapses. With Mecha-Trogador destroyed, the crystals powering him are freed, and 1-Up and Stinkoman propose keeping them out of the wrong hands as a potential sequel or animated series, with Marzi-Mei and Cheatball wanting to join. Unbeknownst to them, Z Sabre has survived the fortress's destruction and gained a mouth.
-
GREGGO - This robot will become indestructible if you stare at him. Shoot, jive, GET OUTTA THE WAY!

History
 +
The game was created in collaboration with programmer Jonathan Howe, who built a level editor in Flash that allowed The Brothers Chaps to directly contribute to the level designs. The game was first demonstrated at a talk at NYU before it was released.
-
POORU-POORU - This punk cucumber is no cactus! Land on one and it's DOINK for you!
+
Development of Stinkoman 20X6 Level 10
 +
The first nine levels of Stinkoman 20X6 were released over a six-month period in 2005. Due to a variety of factors, level 10 was not completed for over a decade. Development on the game resumed in 2017, now led by programmer Jez Swanson; after several additional delays, the level 10 update was released alongside a promotional trailer on December 20, 2020.
-
CHORCH - A flying mecha with pinching fingers, Chorch will make you wish you were never even born!!
+
As of the post-Flash site update on December 31, 2020, the game has numerous glitches (including certain levels being unplayable) due to issues with Ruffle. The Brothers Chaps have promised that , and will be fixed someday in the future.
-
BROWNTANT - This little robot is no mecha. He'll shoot you down with his mecha antenna! Takes a lickin!

Easter Eggs
+
-
* Hover your mouse below "Controls" on the main menu to access the Instruction Booklet.
+
-
* Wait long enough at the title screen to see an intro cinematic.
+
-
* Let Stinkoman stand still in the game for a few seconds and he'll start yawning.
+
-

+
-
Bosses
+
-
* Tampo - Tampo's weak point is the darker colored, lower part of the brain.  You can only hit it when it comes near the ground, and you'll need to jump.  It starts by coming to the lower right.  Stand just in range and shoot it, but make sure you're on the ground when his shots reach you, they shouldn't come close. He will then float to the top-right.  You want to be closer to the left edge of the screen to be able to jump this shot.  Now run to the right, about mid-screen.  Tampo will do the exact same thing on the left, then will return and repeat.
+
-
* Brody - Brody tries to stomp you with its feet, but eventually it'll try to peck you with its head. Just shoot Brody's head when it appears. Brody takes 5 hits to kill.
+
-
* Stlunko - Stinkoman will ride a conveyor belt on Stlunko with a Pooru-Pooru at each end. while it tries to pound him with its fists. You must shoot at the wall on his head until all of the sections of the wall have been destroyed.

Trivia
-
* This game is the first official mention of the 20X6 version of Homestar Runner's actual name, 1-Up.
+
Stinkoman 20X6 Trivia
-
* This is the first time we have seen Stinkoman's house, or any 20X6 character's house, for that matter.
+
-
* According to the Strong Bad Email time capsule, it would seem that Planet K is Earth in the future.
+
-
* Planet K is in the Year 20X6, where gas stoves would have gone out of everyday life, yet some can be seen in stage 2.
+
-
*This is also the first complete platform game that Videlectrix have ever made, as of course Jon Howe programmed it, while the Chaps were simply the graphics designers. (Super Kingio Brothers was meant as a joke and was impossible to play past the first enemy)
+
Remarks
Remarks
-
* There is a hidden power crunch right before the end of the 1st level. Stand at the top of the triangular set of platforms and then jump up to a hidden platform and jump again.
+
Stinkoman 20X6 Remarks
-
* In the bottom right-hand corner of the PLAY GAME! screen it says "V1.X EPISODES 1-3", possibly hinting at a sequel, or, more likely, since the levels and game elements are stored in seperate files, an expansion.
+
-
* When you beat the game it will say "MORE LEVELS TO COME!"
+
-
* When you beat the final boss, Stinkoman says he got a power-up and puts on the stone fist, showing an almost 100% chance for more levels!
+
-
* The creators of Stinkoman 20X6 are poking fun at the 'all your base are belong to us' type language goofs in the stereotypical English port of a Japanese game.
+
-
* This is the second instance of sprites modeled after 8-bit Megaman, the first instance being with Coach Z in Hip Hop Dance.
+
Goofs
Goofs
+
Stinkoman 20X6 Goofs
-
* To get power crunches that are hiding behind enemies without having to kill the enemy, run into the enemy with health to spare. You will take damage, grab the crunch and will be invincible long enough to escape unharmed.
+
-
* This game doesn't feature the regular links at the bottom of the screen to move to other parts of the website.
+
-
* The manual has Kolkaryu listed under level 2, but Kolkaryu already appears in level 1.
+
-
* Greggo will not stop or become indestructable unless you are parallel to him.
+
Glitches
Glitches
-
* When the game was first released, you could skip (press space or click) the first part of the final movie (any part before the MORE LEVELS TO COME SCENE) to enter stage 3.4. It was the Robot Battle arena without the robot: a slightly elevated platform above the ground with two Pooru-Poorus on either side. You could continue traveling rightwards into a barren land before reaching an endless cliff.
+
Stinkoman 20X6 Glitches
-
**This glitch is now fixed. However, if you play the swf you can still play 3.4
+
-
* When you run right and jump, you will flip as if you were running left and jumping.
+
-
* If you fall long enough and don't touch anything, Stinkoman will stop doing his falling pose and act like he's standing and will even start to yawn. Such a long fall can be found in stage 2.2.
+
-
* You can float in mid-air on level 1.1 if a Browntant hits you while you’re falling against the gray pole close to the beginning.
+
-
* If you jump at the right time after killing a boss, you can do your victory pose in midair.
+
-
* If you die with only one life left after defeating a boss, the usual "die" sequence will happen, but then Stinkoman will do his victory dance with no ground beneath him and you will start the next stage with no lives, which will increase by one life and the "Game Over" screen will appear the next time he dies in the next stage.
+
-
* Sometimes you can start up a new game and it will be nothing but Stinkoman and the background.  Since there's no ground, you can only fall and die. This may be linked to older versions of Flash.
+
-
** A possible reason that this happens is because earlier versions of Flash may not be able to read the levelData xml files. For more information on these files, please see the talk page.
+
-
*Not exactly a glitch, but when Stinkoman is about to yawn, his sprite character moves down one pixel.
+
-
*There is a spot in level 2.1 where you can fall between a refrigerator and an adjacent stove, and not be able to jump back up.
+

** In fact, the poses of the white silhouette in the logo are taken directly front the NES Mega Man series.
+
-
** The sounds of the text appearing in the cinematics are also the same as in Mega Man.
+
-
** In Megaman V there is a chicken robot similar to the chickens encountered in level 2.
+
-
** When Stinkoman says that the large gray fist could be a new powerup and takes off with it, this is an obvious reference to Megaman taking the power of defeated bosses.
+
-
** At the start of side-scrolling stage the little theme played is very similar to the old Megaman starting theme.  In fact, the whole soundtrack was probably meant to sound like Megaman game music.
+
-
** When Stinkoman can't clear the wall with his normal jump, this is also a joke from Megaman.
+
-
* Right after Tampo blows up in the cinematic, you can hear the same sound that is played in Metroid when Samus phases in.
+
-
* When all three characters flash onto the screen during the intro, that is also a Mega Man reference, where in one of the arcade games (The Power Battle) Mega Man, Proto Man, and Bass would flash onto the screen in a similar way.
+
-
* The cinematic sequences may be an extended reference to the Ninja Gaiden series for the NES.
+
-
* Stlunko, 404 is a reference to the 404 error that browsers give when a webpage cannot be found.
+
-
* Stlunko, the final boss, could very well be modeled after the final boss in the Donkey Kong game for Game Boy, in which you fight a giant version of Donkey Kong who uses two hands to smash you in a manner very similar to Stlunko. He also could be modeled after Gamma, the giant robot and final boss in Mega Man 3. Or the final Boss at the end of Wario World 3.
+
-
* The illustrations in the manual and the names of the enemies are similar in style to those found in Sega Master System game manuals.
+
-
* Hold B is a reference to Super Mario Bros and a few other Nintendo games where if you held down B, you would run faster. It seems to do nothing in this game, though.
+
-
** It may mean hold S (which in this case is like a B button), which allows you to rapid fire.
+
-
* Stinkoman doing a forward flip may be a reference to the Metroid series, where Samus does very similar flips.
+
-
* The fading blue boxes around Stinkoman's face on the title screen are a reference to large NES sprites, which sometimes had a similar problem.
+
-
* The first boss, Tampo, may be a reference to the final boss of Star Fox 64, which was the giant, floating brain of the enemy, in which it had the same weak point (medulla).
+
-
* The dropping platforms are a reference to the original Mega Man, in which similar platforms were found in the Guts Man stage.
+
-
* Stinkoman's becoming bored when idle is an old gag first found in Sonic the Hedgehog and emulated in countless other titles.
+
-
* Brody looks similar to Big Bird from Sesame Street.
+
-
* The phrase "Table the Label" is from a hilariously bad motivational video hosted by Mr. T called "Be Somebody or be Somebody's Fool!"
+
-
* The manual mentioning this game has no "weepy princess crap" is a reference to the Mario series and a few other games where you had to rescue a helpless princess.
+
-
* When Stinkoman defeats Tampo's robot body in the first cinematic scene, Tampo's robot body dies like the bosses from the video game Contra.
+
-
* The name, Tampo may be a reference to a Japanese kind of fried food (Tempura). Or even Tempo, the speed of music.
+
-
* The explosions of the enemy are a reference to either Double Dragon or Ninja Turtles, both NES games.
+
-
* Stinkoman's power-up could be a reference to an episode of Super Robot Monkey Team HyperForce Go!, in which Lord Scrapperton steals Sparks' magnetic hands and replaces them with ugly gray human hands.
+
-
* Only 3 of Stinkoman's flying fists can be on the screen at the same time.  In the Mega Man series, Mega Man's bullets also suffer from the same drawbacks.
+
-
* Level X.x was also displayed in the old Ninja Gaiden games for the NES and Super NES, the second 20X6 reference to Ninja Gaiden.
+
-
* The bulky, muscular Stinkoman on the box art is probably a reference to the first Mega Man, where the original American version of the game's box art had a big, muscular Megaman that looked nothing like the character in the game.

Stinkoman 20X6 is a side-scrolling platformer game which stars Stinkoman. Based on the classic Mega Man games, Stinkoman travels through distinctive sci-fi worlds and faces a gauntlet of foes to save his friend Pan Pan from the villainous Z Sabre. The game further parodies Japanese video games of the third generation of video game consoles with writing done in the manner of poor Japanese to English translations common to video games of that era.

The game consists of ten levels; although the first nine were released in relatively quick succession, the game remained unfinished for 15 years until the final level was released on December 20, 2020.

As a result of the site's transition to Ruffle on December 31, 2020, the game has numerous glitches that impact gameplay, including certain levels being unplayable. The Brothers Chaps are aware of and working on the problem.

[edit] Story

Challenge the fighting!

[edit] History

A preview of the game shown at New York University a few weeks before release.

The game was created in collaboration with programmer Jonathan Howe, who built a level editor in Flash that allowed The Brothers Chaps to directly contribute to the level designs. The game was first demonstrated at a talk at NYU before it was released.

See main article: Development of Stinkoman 20X6 Level 10

The first nine levels of Stinkoman 20X6 were released over a six-month period in 2005. Due to a variety of factors, level 10 was not completed for over a decade. Development on the game resumed in 2017, now led by programmer Jez Swanson; after several additional delays, the level 10 update was released alongside a promotional trailer on December 20, 2020.

As of the post-Flash site update on December 31, 2020, the game has numerous glitches (including certain levels being unplayable) due to issues with Ruffle. The Brothers Chaps have promised that the problem is being worked on, and will be fixed someday in the future.
