My apologies. At the time I thought the task was complete and I got a little ahead of myself knowing that a post might be possibility. However, in my opinion, I think it would be advantageous to provide the description before the task at hand is being performed, so that users know the bot is doing at the moment. --Stux 22:39, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category organizing

Hey Cheatbot. There are a lot of templates that don't have {{PAGENAME}} in their category. I started to fix a few of those, but then I saw that there were 30-something templates like this. Can you help? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 10:54, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 1, 2, 4— e-mail me more!

Hello TheCheatbot.com, I noticed the edit where you fixed e-mail to email in 'Lectric Boots. I'm wondering if this will happen automatically, even in in-context cases? --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 20:31, 4 April 2013 (UTC) Oh, and I expect an answer in binary.

(Sorry this isn't in binary.) Okay, I had The Cheatbot automatically replace "e-mail" with "email" on 142 pages where it was pretty straightforward. (If those edits don't show up in recent changes for you, click on the link to show bots.) There were a few cases where I let it go ahead and make a change in the transcript of the sender's message or where Strong Bad is typing—in those instances, the transcript itself was wrong and needed to be fixed. Feel free to go through each of those edits to verify them. I also made 24 manual corrections where for some reason the whole page didn't need to change or the capitalization needed to be fixed. I listed the exceptions, etc. in the edit summary. Feel free to check those too. I identified the following pages that as of this writing have the string "e-mail" in them but where I did not make any changes.
These pages fall in four main categories:
  1. There is an actual hyphen in the toon transcript.
  2. It's an interview or some other external source where we should assume the hyphens were in the original.
  3. The page contains a link to E-mail Birds or Real-Live E-Mails.
  4. It's a page having to do with Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People.
With regard to SBCG4AP, I think it has captions and labels and stuff like that, and the hyphens are part of the game. Unless someone can say that they're definitely not in the game I think we should leave those pages alone. We also need to look over all of the Main Pages. The button on the site has a hyphen, but most if not all of our pages don't. — It's dot com 21:52, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

I think we should make a specific exception for SBCG4AP. For consistency's sake, we should use the hyphen on all its related pages and in lists that refer to it. — It's dot com 22:24, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

[edit] ISC additions

If an image is uploaded to the wiki, does it then have to be manually added to the HRW:ISC lists? Is this something The Cheatbot would be capable of doing — searching the database for images not listed on those pages? I figure it would also need to know how to add the todo and done tags to the newer images. The Knights Who Say Ni 21:04, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

When's the last time images were added to those pages? I would just use Special:NewFiles to work backward to that date, making sure all new files already have the right format and keeping things clean as we go. — It's dot com 02:16, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
It looks like several of the pages have last updated dates in 2009 or 2010. The new files page says that there have been 33½ pages worth of uploads (roughly 1600) since DeFender1031 originally compiled the list in the beginning of March 2009. It looks like all the pages currently have between 800 and 1200 files on them, and this would hypothetically add about 200 more to each page. Also, the page says that the lists contain all the files as of 1 March 2009. Seems logical that it should be updated after 5½ years, and I thought this might be the quickest way. Hellote! After countless capitalization edits where I've changed "Easter Egg" or "easter egg" to "Easter egg", the thought struck me that maybe that could be one of The Cheatbot's autoreplace functions. I don't know a whole lot about bots and how they work, so this comment might be ignorant and/or stupid, but it seemed like a neat idea to me. Would something like that be possible? Since you've replaced the links for Jibblies Painting and Casio Head Strong Bad, it seems like you've remembered how to use autoreplace. This is done. "Easter eggs" especially was a beast to do, given there are over 500 instances where we WANT title case (section headers, links) or lowercase (direct quotes). Hey,Cheatbot! You should change all instances of "Keyboard Strong Bad" to "Keyboard Head Strong Bad". Will that be good?

You don't need to yell. You do need to sign your posts. As of this writing Keyboard Strong Bad has not been moved. It looks like there's a agreement to move it, but the discussion is still ongoing as to exactly where. Until a move happens, there's no point in making a request on this page. Awesome! Thank you very much! Also, to respond to your question: AFAIK the category pages redirect as you can see but the category itself does not. So any pages pointing to the original category remain as part of the old category and do not become part of the new category. At least it doesn't in this version of Mediawiki. Right. I kept the redirect because if for some reason you're looking at an old version of one of the affected pages, the old category will be listed. If you click on the old category, it will redirect to the new category. — It's dot com 15:08, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

Here's an updated table that presents all of the relevant information more clearly. First, the Old New Intro, The King of Town's Very Own Quite Popular Cartoon Show, and A Death Defying Decemberween redirects should be deleted so their respective pages can be moved to these new titles. Also, Talk:HomestarRunner.com: PAY PLUS! should be deleted so the actual talk page can be moved there. Everything else on this table has already been moved, so all of the links on the left column should be changed to the one on the right.

[edit] Bug with Dollar Amounts

It seems that The Cheatbot has an issue where dollar amounts are likely treated as variables and replaced with blanks (only the first two digits are affected). Examples can be seen here, here and here (actual edit). Given the large amount of edits recently, it might be best to programmatically scour these edits for these issues so that they can be corrected. Hopefully, the bug itself is easy enough to fix for future edits. --Stux 02:52, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. I fixed the bug and I'm pretty sure I got all the remaining malformed dollar amounts (which were considerable in number, so good thing we noticed it quickly). — It's dot com 06:05, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

That template doesn't really do anything; it's essentially just a shortcut. I'm not inclined to arrange just shy of 10,000 edits on nearly 1,600 articles (to say nothing of the other namespaces) without a compelling reason. — It's dot com 00:24, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

[edit] Podstar Runner

The Podstar Runner pages have been recently disambiguated. Although I've already updated the most prominent pages and all templates, there are still over 500 pages now linking to the disambiguation.

I would like to request that all related links in the Main and User namespace be updated from [[Podstar Runner]] to [[Podstar Runner 2008|Podstar Runner]] (example) and from [[Podstar Runner|Podstar Runner 2008]] to [[Podstar Runner 2008]] (example).

Other namespaces could be updated, however, I'm not sure if the redirects should be updated or if it would make more sense to leave those alone and keep them pointed to the disambiguation page. Same for the HRWiki: namespace. In the end we can just review the edits and revisit the WhatLinksHere page after the fact, so I'll leave it to your judgement, DC.
