[edit] Aqua-who?

When The Homestar Runner says "Oh... Aqueduct" this could be a reference to the Jethro Tull song Aqualung in which he sings "Oh... Aqualung" several times.

From: highschool

Arguments for:

Arguments against:

  • This is a long stretch.
  • Ridiculous. He's just saying a Roman word.

Additional comments:

  • Never heard of the band. Can it be true?
    • There is a Jethro Tull, and his most famous song was Aqualung. I've never heard it though.
      • I know the song, and the lyrics aren't that similar to Homestar Runner's exclamation.

[edit] Highet... hega... highshool! Highschool!

Strong Bad's struggle to pronounce "highschool" is similar to his struggle to pronounce the last name "Highet" in guitar.

From: highschool
Posted on: 21:21, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Arguments for:

  • Both events occur at the beginning of Strong Bad's reading of an email.
  • Both words start with "high."

Arguments against:

  • I'm not sure I buy this fact - there is a similarity in pronunciation trouble, but this is also a pretty standard Strong Bad behavior.
  • The reasons for Strong Bad's pronciation difficulties are different in the two cases. He struggles with "Highet" coz it's an unusual name. He struggles with "highschool" because it's supposed to be two words.
  • The fact that "highschool" and "Highet" begin with the same 4 letters is just coincidence.

[edit] Homestar - me see 'em moving

When Homestarmecium replicates himself, he does so horizontally, each time. However, every time the screen pulls out, the Homestarmeciums are lined up vertically prior to the next replication, despite having never moved from their horizontal alignment.

From: highschool
Posted on: 20:33, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Arguments for:

  • Homestarmeciums, before and after cutaway
See the image on the right for a clearer view. They're definitely more bunched up before the cutaway than they are after.

Arguments against:

  • I don't see what the point of this fun fact is - it stands to reason that the Homestarmecia just rearranged themselves during the cut-out. It's not the world's cleanest animation, but it doesn't look like a goof to me.

Additional comments:

  • This fact was removed without being STUFF'd; felt this would be the best way to handle it.
  • This fact may need rewording.
  • Is this being proposed as a goof, remark or something else? (I ask because it affects my vote.)
    • It was made as a goof, but it probably works as a remark too, if you think it better.
      • I think this should be counted as remark rather than a goof if it is accepted.
        • It should be a goof: It is a definite continuity error. The Homestarmeciums are instantaneously rearranged from one frame to the next.
          • Seems rather nit-picky to me, but whatever.
            • I too, think it should be a remark.
              • I don't see how there's an argument. It's pretty obviously a mistake, which makes it a goof, right?
                • See, that's where some of us disagree. It looked natural enough to me that NOTHING about that animation called attention to itself all six times I watched it, even after this fact was STUFF'd.
                  • Agreed.
  • Oh, I saw them move, all right. I paid attention to that cutaway, and they moved. For real, guys.

[edit] The new M&M

Strong Mad's round stomach and lowercase "m" are a reference to M&M's.

From: highschool
Posted on: 06:39, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Arguments for:

  • The font of the "m" is the same as on an M&M.

Arguments against:

The left is from Strong Mad's chest, the right from an M&M.
  • The font is not the same.
  • Nor is there a period on an M&M.
  • The small 'm' simply stands for small(er) Strong Mad.
  • Close, but not enough.
  • It's there to represent the way Strong Mad currently wears his M. The lowercase M most likely represents him being younger.

Additional comments:

  • I'm not trying to argue for this item, but I just wanted to point out that they might not have had the legal right to use the M&M typeface, and so they just substituted something for it. (That doesn't explain the period after the "m", of course.)
    • The period could be a substitute for the (R) trademark symbol.

[edit] All the time, sir

Strong Bad's claim that "Strong Mad and I were all the time trying to liberate Homestar from those ridiculous striped pants," recalls the line "Creepy pants all the time get some," from long pants.

From: highschool
Posted on: 01:32, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Arguments for:

Arguments against:

  • "Pants" and "all the time" are not enough to make a reference.
  • "All the time" is one of those little phrases that all the time pops up on Homestar Runner. The Brothers themselves even use it outside of toons on occasion.

Additional comments:

  • Is this fact referencing that Homestar is wearing creepy pants, or the phrase "all the time" appearing before the verb?
    • The phrase (although I hadn't noticed that they were both about pants until just now).
  • Google search for "all the time" on HRWiki: [1] Third one down, the facts, uses it like this, and there are several others showing it spread throughout.
  • It seems to me that this is just another instance of Strong Bad's poor grammar.
