"Looks like I'm gonna have to jump... inthistrashcan!"

Dangeresque Roomisode 2 is the unproduced sequel to Dangeresque Roomisode 1: Behind the Dangerdesque. Due to taking place at a street intersection, possibly in Brainblow City, Strong Bad has described the game as more of an "intersectionisode" than a "roomisode". The game was first mentioned in 2017, in the context of having been canceled; more recent posts in 2023 suggest the game is "upcoming" and under more active development.

Like the first game, it is structured as a Videlectrix graphic adventure game in the style of those produced by LucasArts and Sierra Entertainment. The player would take control of both Dangeresque and Renaldo, attempting to disarm a bomb in the DangeCar-esque. Screenshots and other production information have been shared to the @StrongBadActual Twitter and Instagram pages.

Description

A second roomisode was noncommittally hinted at in the April 24, 2009 Videlectrix website post. Soon after, homestarrunner.com went on an extended hiatus; no further updates have been posted to the Videlectrix site.

On October 5, 2017, Strong Bad posted an animation from the game to Twitter; the post was discussing Roomisode 1 and did not specify that this scene was not from that game.

Roomisode 2 was not directly acknowledged until nearly a year later. On September 23, 2018, in the wake of Telltale Games' closure, Strong Bad joined former TTG employees in reminiscing about working on Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. As the conversation turned to Videlectrix's feud with Telltale that lead to the release of Roomisode 1, a potential sequel was again mentioned. Strong Bad replied with a brief description of the game, including the same animation from earlier. Later that day, he posted a Twitter thread revealing more information about the game, including responses and graphics.

This discussion revealed more information about the game. Renaldo would have been in the DangeCar-esque, which Strong Bad describes as having "intense A/C action" and "ashtray mode"; he also would be playable, able to explore the interior of the car and interact with slow-jam mix tapes. Another screenshot revealed an underground sewer containing a bearded Strong Sad, likely accessed through the manhole cover visible on the street. The goal would have been to defuse a bomb inside DangerCar-esque. At this point, the game was still referred to in past tense as a "never-finished" project.

In 2023, the game was revisited again on social media — though now the game was more actively referred to as "upcoming". Posts were made using the #screenshotsaturday hashtag common among indie game developers, though as they were posted on differing days of the week many used humorous tags like "#ScreenshotMondurday" or "#ScreenshotThursdurday". The first had Renaldo's fez smoldering on the floor as Strong Bad's Dangeresque glasses fell on the floor beside it, demonstrating more complex 3D CGI animation. Later posts showed new and returning characters — Strong Sad as a construction worker, Perducci, The Cheat as a waiter, and the Stunt Double — as well as additional settings and gameplay features.

The game is confirmed to be releasing on PC and Mac as part of "Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triungulate", containing a port of the first game to modern formats with some additional puzzles, as well as the previously unreleased, fully voice-acted second and third games.

Explanations

  • A slow jam is a type of emotional or romantic song, typically taking the form of an R&B ballad or downtempo soul song.

Real-World References

  • When talking to the trash can, Strong Bad references Oscar the Grouch, a creature from Sesame Street who lives in a trash can. Mr. Hooper was a human Sesame Street character; when actor Will Lee passed away in 1982, a memorable episode of the show was produced that dealt with the death of Mr. Hooper.
