[edit] Chinese Translation

I think that "我不喜欢饭了!" means "I did not like the food!" Am I right? - Saddy Dumpington 19:44, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, I guess since I archived my talk, there's no way for you too see that it's already been answered by Dot com. My bad. Anyway, it actually means "I don't like food anymore!" Heimstern Läufer 01:31, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GERM. FUN!!(note:germ. is short for german)

That's all german I know.Rinop 21:11, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Mostly good. Only changes: "weib" should be "weiß" (or "weiss"), and "schwartz" should be "schwarz". Heimstern Läufer 20:20, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
And "grun" should be "grün". And make sure you wash your hands after having fun with germs. Be safe, Loafing 20:26, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
Ah yes, forgot that one. Heimstern Läufer 20:31, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, that's because, well fine, redo:

[edit] Nov 6 2007 Opera Quote

Re this: The opera is Carmen, and I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but the name "Carmen" can be found at the ends of Homestarloween Party and The House that Gave Sucky Treats when Strong Bad's costumes are revealed. Trey56 02:32, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

'Zactly. I would have accepted either of those as correct answers; you were good enough to give both. Heimstern Läufer 03:56, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Block Notices

Hey Heimstern Läufer. Is it okay if I tell people that they have been blocked for x days and come back and make good edits. Is it? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 22:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't think you should. Better to leave that to the sysop making the block. Also, it needs to be better worded than this. "Come back and make good edits" could be read as sarcastic (you probably didn't mean it that way, but it can be seen that way). Heimstern Läufer 23:00, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Also, sam, if you're going to ask if it's okay to do something, better to ask BEFORE doing it... — Defender1031*Talk 23:01, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Okay. Just askin. And as the conclusion ends, it is established that Homestar breaks in to way to many houses. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 23:06, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
In case you are wondering, the reason I took so long is that I'm always very hesitant to block users who may be acting in good faith, even if misguidedly. In this case, I blocked only when it was clear that nothing else was going to stop the disruption. Heimstern Läufer 23:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
I think the guy you blocked will get back at Bubs and Coach Z's Relationship tomorrow. Either that, or create the page again. Or even vandalize your page. What should we do? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 00:23, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Nothing. We don't block users for stuff they didn't do yet. If he comes back, and let's don't get over our heads here in who this guy is, he will be dealt with. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 08:20, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Testing, exam time message

hey Heimstern Läufer, how are you? listen, I'll be having my year 10 exams in the coming weeks, so I'll off Homestar runner wiki for a while, can you tell me what that message is called, and where it it?

much appreciate, Nikolce Kocovski 04:41, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

We don't have a specific template for that purpose, but you can always just add a note to your userpage saying you'll be away. Heimstern Läufer 08:08, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

The Goblin: It's true that some users at Wikipedia follow this practice (myself included). But as far as I know, our policy does not allow for that at this time. Heimstern Läufer 20:43, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question (H*R Wiki banner)

Hey Heimstern Laufer, you told me on my talk page that I could ask you a question, so I'll ask you one (this will be the only time, I promise). I'm going to make a H*R Wiki banner because I'm bored, is there a certain place I should put it? Image:Kurosaki_signature_image_flower.png Kurosaki · talk 20:20, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

What kind of banner do you mean, and how would it be used? For example, if it would go on your user page, then it would be a personal image. If you're interested in making a lot of banners, then the fanstuff wiki probably has a place for that. (Also, feel free to ask more than just that one question. :) ) — It's dot com 21:07, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I also feel I should point we already have a couple of our own official banners, but we haven't had any new ones in a long, long time. --DorianGray 21:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
It's dot com — I was talking about banners advertising the site, like on the article DorianGray linked to. I do think I will be making a lot of these. Here is a banner I made. Image:Kurosaki_signature_image_flower.png Kurosaki · talk 23:49, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lost in Translation

Hey Heimstern. For your translation of "The King of Town" (Der König der Stadt), literally, that means "The King the town". Wouldn't it be better to say something like "Der Stadtkönig" or "Der König von Stadt"? I'm only in German I, so obviously my translation wouldn't compare to yours. But nonetheless, could you provide feedback?

--Zerlock1124 23:28, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Good question, Zerlock. Here's my answer: although "von" is sometimes used to translate the English "of", it's also very common to simply change the noun into the genitive case. In this case, the noun is "die Stadt". Changing it to the genitive makes it "der Stadt". So "Der König der Stadt" is actually "The King of (the) Town" because "Stadt" is in the genitive. Heimstern Läufer 23:32, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah, Danke. -Zerlock1124 04:18, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually, that's a vandal username. And I'm no vandal! But in all seriousness, when we've discussed userpage redirects in the past, we've usually talked about each person only being allowed one redirect, so I won't make that redirect unless the community clearly favours it. Heimstern Läufer 00:21, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I favor it... screw the vandal, he's not coming back, he doesn't need that page. — Defender1031*Talk 00:28, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
The vandal issue is not the main one. It's whether or not the community is OK with me having more than one. And yes, I register that you are cool with it. Heimstern Läufer 00:31, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
If you want it, I be cool with it Heimstern. :) --Stux 02:42, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Error Received: "The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups Autoconfirmed users, Bots, Sysops."

I was just going to upload an image of my face so I can stick it on my user page, but I guess I can't. Are External Images allowed? If so, how do I make them? Do I just use the IMG html tag? ColdReactive 04:46, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

You'll be autoconfirmed pretty soon, and then you can upload an image. Heimstern Läufer 04:48, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Someone should seriously edit that "Autoconfirmed users" page there, otherwise people will keep asking what they are. ColdReactive 04:50, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
I still haven't been autoconfirmed, does it REALLY take this long? ColdReactive
Yes, it does. And much longer, actually. Loafing 00:11, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] HRWiki:Featured article for 2008, week 16, day 6

I created that article as a redirect, so that the 5 red links would go away. Why'd you delete it?

What redlinks? At any rate, those pages aren't necessary. That's why I deleted them. We only need to include project pages for daily FAs when we actually are doing daily FAs. Heimstern Läufer 03:28, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
redlinks=Special:Wantedpages There were 5 pages linked to said deletion, so I added a redirect to resolve the issue.
Those 5 links don't really exist - they're a result of the way the "Featured Article" section works. Today, for example, it looks at both HRWiki:Featured article for 2008, week 16, day 6 and HRWiki:Featured article for 2008, week 16 (with no "day" part). If the specific-day one exists, it shows that, but if it doesn't, it shows the whole-week one. So we can have daily featured articles or weekly featured articles, and change between them, just by creating the features in the right place. However, because of the way it works, both of the daily and weekly templates get linked to by Main Page behind the scenes... even though one of them isn't actually used. So the daily one ends up in Special:Wantedpages, since the Main Page (and 4 other pages that look like the Main Page) seem to be linking to it. --phlip TC 03:54, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Thank you so much!

[edit] Biz Cas Fri 2

I DID try discussing first. No one else said anything. --Jnelson09 03:55, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

OK, sorry I didn't notice that. If no one says anything, though, it's better just to be bold and add it to the article than to STUFF, especially while making no argument for the fact. STUFF should really only be used as a last resort these days (I know it wasn't that way in the past, but our community has moved in a different direction in this front). Meanwhile, I've replied to your comment on the talk page. Hope that helps. Heimstern Läufer 03:59, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Looking again, apparently you did, and it was reverted. Hmm. Well, the best way to go would still probably have been to try to engage the reverter (in this case, Defender) on the talk page. Heimstern Läufer 04:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Had a case been made, i would have been able to refute it. in my removal summary, I said that it wasn't remarkable... until there's a case made that it is, i feel no obligation to prove that it's not, hence why i did not respond on the talk page, which merely stated the same remark without making a case as to its notability. — Defender1031*Talk 04:07, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Still, if it's brought up on the talk page, then a reply should be made on the talk page in addition to an edit summary. — It's dot com 04:16, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it's often forgotten that edit summaries and talk posts serve different ends and are not interchangeable, or that one is always enough. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 05:04, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

Since you are a Wikipedia admin, I'd like to ask you something. My Wikipedia account has been blocked because it is highly suspected of being a sock of some person I don't even know and have a COMPLETELY different IP address from. Could you please unblock it? Thanks. IntfictExpert 00:52, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Everyone else: Please forgive my using this talk page for Wikipedia-type business.
IntfictExpert: You have been identified as the banned user 98E by a checkuser. I have no checkuser privileges at Wikipedia and thus have no way to confirm or deny this. I therefore will most definitely not unblock your account without hearing some doubt from a checkuser that you are 98E. Please note that, as my note above suggests, this talk page really should not be used for non-HRWiki-related business; therefore, I ask you not to continue this discussion here please. Thank you. Heimstern Läufer 02:37, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
I have not been identified as that user. I don't know him. I don't even have the same IP as him. I'm from Australia and he's from America.
I've already told you that I'm not amenable to continuing this discussion here. Heimstern Läufer 03:06, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Well where can I continue it? It's very hard to be released from this block. IntfictExpert 03:19, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Try creating a new username. If it wasn't your IP that was blocked, from the way you stated your sentence earlier, then you should be able to create a new account...but please don't continue the conversation here, as we don't have any affiliation with the big cheese, Wikipedia. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 04:51, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Creating a new username - now that's just making a sockpuppet. IntfictExpert 04:59, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Devon, that wouldn't be acceptable. Please be careful what advice you give, as this advice was frankly quite bad and definitely unhelpful.
IntfictExpert, all I can suggest is emailing another checkuser. I'm done discussing this here. If you continue this discussion here, I will revert. Heimstern Läufer 05:04, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Swears" etc.

Regarding your message re: Talk:more_armies#Explanation_of_lunch-handeree_label

Concerning your recent dispute with OptimisticFool concerning the censoring of a word: He was correct that we don't include words like that in our articles (with a few exceptions, for which we do offer a warning)...

I've seen a lot of these ominous-sounding "we don't", both in your message and in others' edit summaries; but I've read the policies, guidelines, etc., and I don't find any evidence that this is anything but your personal feeling about what ought to be done. Even if it is an accurate description of what has generally happened in the past, how does "we don't" translate into "I shouldn't" if there's no policy about it? In this case the crucial phrase here is "words like this"; I've already stated my opinion that you're just wrong about whether this particular word is "like" uncontroversial crap or, let's say, uncontroversially obscene m**********r, but you and the other discussion participants just continue to presuppose your point.
