[edit] Please to be putting on more other days

Strong Bad saying "Please to be putting on more clothes..." in the Easter egg is a reference to the Polish email in other days.

From: TrogdorCon '97
Posted on: 17:10, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Arguments for:

  • other days: "Please to be untieing that shoelace on the back of your head."
  • TrogdorCon '97: "Hey, loincloth, please to be putting on more clothes..."
  • If that email didn't exist, would the awkward wording be in this toon.

Arguments against:

  • Similar awkward wording does not a reference make.
  • We've declined facts like this previously (see "Oops, I STUFF'd it!" for an example).
  • The "please to be" construction is a classic miswording that is often used to make fun of non-native English speakers.
  • It might be influenced by the Polish email, but the link isn't strong enough to be called a reference.

Additional comments:

  • The previously declined fact is not that similar to this situation. The longer the quote, the more likely it is a reference.
    • "Oops, I ----- it" and "Please to be". They both look like they have three words the same to me.

[edit] MILLION SIDED DIED!

This toon contains another reference to a die with more than six sides, a previous reference having been made in Teen Girl Squad Issue 8.

From: TrogdorCon '97
Posted on: 1:22, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Arguments for:

Arguments against:

  • These things are similar, but they are not related to each other.
    • This would go under Remarks rather than Inside References, FYI.
  • TrogdorCon was known to have 'geeks and nerds' in attendance. Such people are usually shown playing a lot of RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons. Multi-sided dice are standard equipment for such. Strong Bad's comment was just a jab at a stereotype, really.
  • Um... this is too much of a stretch.

Additional comments:

  • A die with more than six sides. That doesn't sound good. How about "A die with an unusual number of sides", or something like that?

[edit] Dork-on

Strong Bad previously refered to someone as a dork-on in studying.

From: TrogdorCon '97
Posted on: 20:22, 6 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Arguments for:

  • It's true.
  • Strong Bad has used the epithet twice now. The cross-reference is useful and interesting.

Arguments against:

  • The context in the email was completely different for this to be a reference, and it wasn't even Strong Sad at whom the insult was directed.
  • Like "nerd" or any other insult, it's just something Strong Bad likes to say.
  • Probably just a coincidence.
  • Don't know if it's reference worthy, but it's certainly not coincidental if it happened once before.
  • I got the feeling that this time it was Dor-Con as opposed to Dork-On with the whole "Con" thing going on
  • Just a coincidence. I don't think TBC would look that back to make a referance.
  • If we accepted this fact, we would have to accept as a fun fact the use of any word in two different places.
  • There is no possible use for this.

Additional comments:

  • Revise to note the differing context.

[edit] 50K Starrunner

Homestar Runner's chant of "left, right, left, right, right, right, no—" is similar to the description of 50K Racewalker on the Videlectrix games catalog page.

From: TrogdorCon '97
Posted on: 07:05, 6 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Arguments for:

  • It is slightly reminiscent of the "Left, right, left, right" Racewalker mantra.
  • Homestar messes up in a similar fashion to the description of the game.

Arguments against:

  • However, it is more likely Homestar just being Homestar and not remembering exactly how to walk.
  • This isn't a reference to 50K Racewalker. It's a reference to the Y2K episode of Family Guy.
    • If Homestar had said "foot" after left or right, then yes, it would have been. But I can't remember anyone saying "right foot, right foot" in that episode.
  • It's a reference to him being clumsy and not being able to walk correctly....wait, that's not a reference.

Additional comments:

  • Quotes:
    • HOMESTAR RUNNER:{walking slowly and staring at his feet} Left, right, left, right, right, right, no—left, right, left, right
    • VIDELECTRIX DESCRIPTION: Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Right... OOPS!!! You lose!! Alternate left right for about five hours without messing up and you could win the gold!!
  • Note: This item is currently on its way to being accepted, but it was not quite right as originally written. The item has been revised slightly to make it more "correct." If anyone who previously accepted it has a serious problem with the new wording, leave a note and we'll figure something out.
  • In spite of what one of the ArgsAg says, Homestar isn't normally clumsy. He's a "terrific athlete," remember? Just insanely clueless.

[edit] Nerdiest Diapey

The diaper reference is from the Alphonse Elric character in Fullmetal Alchemist where his apron has been mistaken by the others for a diaper.

From: TrogdorCon '97
Posted on: 17:37, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Arguments for:

Arguments against:

  • This is a very long stretch.
  • It was probably just some guy wearing a diaper, or something like it.
  • This is also the case for other animation characters, such as Samurai Jack.
  • There is not enough evidence to prove that the fan in question had dressed up as Alphonse Elric.
  • If this is a reference to anything, isn't it more likely a reference to Li'l Strong Bad's "Dirtiest Diapey" in "record book"?

Additional comments:

  • Instead, have a fun fact that this refers to the common mistake of Samurai (or something) outfits being mistaken for diapers, or something like that.
