[edit] Homestar Run Go?
Does no one else find it strange that there's no official site update?
Was there not one last year? I can't remember. --Onamuji (b/w T. C. ) 14:23, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Nope, there wasn't one last year either, unfortunately. The last time they did something was two years ago. For more info about past years, see here. Trey56 15:05, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Method to the madness

- I-would-assume-it's-some-sort-of-Media-Wiki-setting?-Either-way,-it's-pretty-cool. 76.28.239.110 17:32, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Magic. It's pretty simple, actually. I use the ParserAfterTidy hook to intercept the output right before it's sent to the browser. First, the extension checks whether the output corresponds to a wiki page (that is, it's not a special page, page history, page editor, system message, or the like), otherwise it ignores it. Then it scans the page for all formatting (tables, links, bold, etc.) so that the overall structure of the page can be preserved. Finally, it takes whatever text is left (organized in chunks that correspond to the formatting), splits it at the spaces, mixes it up, and puts the whole thing back together (with a few adjustments to make sure certain punctuation comes out right), and then that's what gets sent to your browser. It doesn't touch the actual database, and it doesn't affect the editing process (things like Show Preview work fine), so it wouldn't have been any problem to document any shenanigans at the offical site, if only TBC had done something. — It's dot com 17:58, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

The prank was that all the text on every page was arbitrarily scrambled. For no apparent reason at all - furrykef (Talk at me) 18:27, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
ISTK: you have the right not to like the prank, but there are far more constructive ways to communicate this. By the way, what clever April Fool's Joke did you do on your own website?
It's very difficult to come up with a creative prank, and I thought this one was clever and well-implemented. And as others have secretly said above, it was simple to view pages in their original format by using Show Preview. Worst-case scenario: it was a one-day annoyance to people who couldn't figure out how to get around it, and 24 hours later, everything was back to normal. Life goes on, yay. Trey56 19:09, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Wbwolf: For a description of the process, see #Method to the madness. I strongly suggest that you check the integrity of your heart and butt before reading it, though. — It's dot com 19:30, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Is there an archived version of it anywhere? I wanna see more of it! I only had enough time to see a few pages. 72.251.10.240 02:49, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Check out HRWiki:April Fools' Jokes and Other Baleeted Nonsense. And I have to agree with the majority of users: it was a great prank! Beter than the one last year :-) Loafing 03:54, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Are archived versions of the other scrambled pages available? Bad Bad Guy 04:12, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- There's always installing a word filter and making every word say "SPAM" instead. Like vgmusic.com did once with their phpBB Installation. ColdReactive
- BBG: Not archived versions, but you can use the new page scrambler to see the effect on any page. — It's dot com 02:22, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Gamestop.com
- I didn't check if it was added to anything (sorry, too lazy again) in the Wiki but a couple weeks ago Gamestop's website was mbeing remodeled. And they gave out a few web sites to check out while they were fixing their site. One was Homestar Runner. Uh, I would go to the Wayback Machine right now but my school's firewall once again prevails. Can someone look that up for me? It was like 2 weeks ago. Thanks. --TheYellowDart—(t/c) 15:21, 4 April 2008 (UTC) EDIT: Just checked the Website Sightings and wasn't on there.
- Check this out after going home or something. The year 2008 apparently isn't avail. yet. Also, clicking "See all..." gives a "Bad Gateway" error. You can also bypass school firewalls by getting an Ubuntu Live CD and making the comp. boot from it. Unless they use a firewall that scans all types of OSes (Novell can't) ColdReactive
- Uh, ya, I know how the Wayback Machine works. My school's firewall is very 1337. Seriously. So uh... probably can't boot from a CD either. --TheYellowDart—(t/c) 19:42, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Delete File: Image:IyerusDesignsLogo.png
The image requires deletion by a sysop of somekind because I uploaded a better suited image for my signature. ColdReactive
- Done. Next time, just tag it with the {{delete}} template (or save a new image over the old image) instead of posting here. Cheers. — It's dot com 17:42, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- I can't save a GIF over a PNG File, it'll give an error saying the source file (on my machine) is corrupt or the wrong type. ColdReactive
- But you can save a GIF as an 8-bit PNG and then upload that. — It's dot com 18:23, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Paint.NET doesn't allow you to choose the png type, nor does GIMP. ColdReactive
- Well, a little online searching says that's not true. Anyway, it's beside the point; I only mentioned saving over the file only as an aside. My main point is still that you should just tag the image instead of posting here. — It's dot com 19:33, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- PNG Type as in the two sub-types, not the overall mime-type. I bet you searched for just if they could save as "png." Paint.NET saves PNGs as 24 only, I know this. I don't edit images with GIMP, I use it for image viewing. It's better at that than editing, if you show me a screenshot of where GIMP allows one to choose whether it saves as the individual subtypes I'll believe you. -_- ColdReactive
- I'm not sure what you're after (I'm 99% certain PNG doesn't have "subtypes"...), but based on the fact that you said 24, I'm guessing you mean 24-bit, as in, as opposed to a palletised image? If that's what you want, then look in the title bar of the image in The GIMP... if it says "Indexed", then when you save it as .PNG it'll be a palletised image; if it says "RGB" it'll be saved as a 24-bit RGB image. You can switch between the two by choosing "Mode" from the "Image" menu. If you open a GIF it'll always start as "Indexed" (since that's how GIFs work). phlip TC 02:19, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Main Page Copying...
Why do most users copy the main page to their user page? It gets kind of annoying to have to see it come up suddenly, and not knowing about the user instead. (this is an example) ColdReactive
- I wouldn't really say that most users do this. Hardly any, in fact, relatively speaking. You're right though, it is kind of annoying, and I don't know why they do it. Why don't you ask them individually and see what they say. — It's dot com 19:45, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Attention whoever posted that limozeen live youtube link
It's leading me to an error page. Can someone please fix it so that others can enjoy the music Youtube user tdougland posted about Limozeen Live? -207.206.239.2
- It's actually correct. I'd guess its gotten some online traffic, though. Maybe that's the problem? Try to specify what error screen you get and keep trying. If it keeps coming up, repost on here and someone else'll help you (I have to go to class in like, 10 minutes). It should work. Ooh, check your network connection too (Since you were able to post that on here, I doubt you have any problems, but, still...). --DevonM 12:58, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Special Case Easy Link
Knowing that TBC (probably) has two new YouTube accounts, and it is being debated whether they'll be added on to, should we make a special wiki-link to YouTube? You know how we have the link to the Official H*R by doing [[hr|something.swf]]? --DevonM 13:04, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- We already have the YouTube: link style, which points to specific videos. I don't think we need one for YouTube user pages, though. — It's dot com 20:17, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] LIMOZEEN SHOW

[edit] I can't do it!
I'm trying to edit the page to show the newest cartoon (Homestar Gets Something Stuck In His Craw), but It just puts me in coding program
- Well, if you mean you're trying to edit the main page, you can't. It's protected so that only our sysops can edit it, so we don't have vandals putting something bad on what is normally what people first see. If you're talking about trying to edit the page The Homestar Runner Gets Something Stuck In His Craw, anyone can edit that, not just sysops. When you click "edit" at the top, it brings you to the same coding program you used to post your notice. The coding program is what you use to edit. If this isn't helping, be very specific about your problem. And don't forget to edit your talk page edits by typing four tides, like this: ~~~~. It automatically puts your name and the time and date of post where the tides would be. But only do this on talk pages! If we did this on content pages, this place would be nothing but signatures. Hope this helps. SuperfieldCreditUnion
- That's not quite right. Registered users can edit the template that is included on the main page (anonymous users cannot). — It's dot com 16:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] autocolumn tag...
I was wondering, how did you install it into MediaWiki. Because it comes in handy in more ways than one. Simply searching for autocolumn on the MediaWiki.org website results in nothing. As well as userboxsamples tag; Yeah, I don't know jack about creating custom tags like that, sorry for being ignorant. I'd ask the MediaWiki site, but they look like they have enough on their hands (much more so than here.) Now if MediaWiki had an e-mail address I could contact, I'd e-mail them; but I don't want to add a discussion or something on their wiki. ColdReactive
- The reason you can't find it is that I made those tags myself to use on our wiki and haven't ever released them on MediaWiki.org. — It's dot com 16:04, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- I bet you won't tell me how to do it. Well, I guess I'll be sticking to something that'll break a wiki page. *sighs* ColdReactive
- I added a support query to MediaWiki.org, so we'll see in a few days. Whenever I don't get replies to something, I'm assuming the people are laughing at my ignorance and don't want to tell me because they think I'll figure it on my own. Well, I don't figure stuff like this on my own. ColdReactive
[edit] Content Template
I was wondering if there was a way I would be able to get the "Content" template that gives shortcuts to the page headlines to not show when my userpage is viewed. It comes up right on my DevonM.com Update Template. DevonM 22:02, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- I added a
__NOTOC__
flag to your user page to suppress the table of contents. If you wanted to move the TOC (rather than completely eliminate it), you can use the__TOC__
flag to put it wherever you want on the page. — It's dot com 02:51, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Rush live in Jacksonville, FL
Rush recently played a show in Jacksonville Florida. When I browsed the reviews from the rushisaband audience members, someone pointed out that Geddy(Lee, bassist/keyboardist/singer) was wearing a Trogdor shirt! I went to rush.com and saw the pictures from that show with Geddy wearing the shirt![1] You have to click on multimedia, then Rush on the Road, then Jacksonville, and there are 3 pics of him wearing the shirt.
- Can someone add this to Sightings? I'm way too tired to do it right now.— Bassbone (TALK CONT) 08:45, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Asking an Important question (please if you could, reply to my talk page, thanks!)
Did the Brother Chaps event the the whole "email comedy genre" where a character answers viewers questions, like Strong Bad. It just that i read on a wiki page for "Ask a Ninja" where it says there, "the format is similar to strong bad email". Is that true, i mean, homestar runner, having the first "email answering comedy?

[edit] Hrm... Classic Game Reference...
I was just wondering; did TBC ever reference to Zeliard on the site/movies/toons/etc.? If not, I find it kinda odd. Although I guess it is not a very well known old game. It's a side-scrolling RPG, probably the first. (Zelda was an adventure game.) ColdReactive
