Why don't we have seperate sectons for every letter? It would make things a lot easier for the people who found new words, so they don't have to go through over 100 words just ot find one letter. So, what's your opinion on it? Sbmaniac 23:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Do words in commentaries count? What about interviews? If a word is said in a toon that counts and a side-project (concerts, etc.) that doesn't, is the first one disqualified? Sorry, I just found a few in the commentaries that could count, but not sure if using commentary quotes fits the page.--Jellote wuz here 20:43, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

:<blockquote>Only toons (big, shorts, SBEmails, Answering Machines, character pages, etc.) count, including the Easter eggs within the toon. Don't include the actual games, Videlectrix pages, Strong Sad's Lament, other webpages opened through Easter eggs, commentaries, etc.</blockquote>

#If a word previously used once is re-used in rock opera, 160 Seconds, Email Intros, or something along those lines, does that count as two instances of the word?
 +
#Do the three-letter words in boring (really) count as instances of those words? "jib" and "spy" were originally on the list, depsite the fact that they were both also used in b(r).
 +
#Should we put a "search" function near each word to check that they really are used once? I had to manually search literally every word on the list on the day when I removed all the words that had been re-used.
 +
#Is there a particular reason we sign each word we add?
 +
#When "change-up" was originally added, it did not have the hyphen, but it was added just minutes later. Should it have the hyphen or not? With the hyphen, it looks like it's two words. Similar for "Jew's harp" - that's two words as one word.
 +
#When The Knights Who Say Ni re-added a couple of words after my mass deletion, he questioned a couple of other words that I had removed in his edit summary. The first time "dons" is used is as a verb, but the second time it is used is as a noun - a proper noun. So does that count as two instances? And the second time "frustrating" is used is in "un-frustrating" - so does that count as two instances?

::::::::There seems to be a fair amount of editing on this page regarding other forms of a word appearing. Just for example, I think that "brother" and "brothers" are two different words and (a) shouldn't be removed for the other one appearing, and (b) shouldn't be moved to the honorable mention section for the other one appearing in the same toon (like piñatas). Regarding the use of "disappoint" having been on the list for years: It is entirely true what DorianGray said on the entry: It is "said twice in one email, and a third time as an -ing verb, all in rapid succession", and it belongs because that is the only toon that the word "disappoint" shows up in. However, "disappointing" by itself doesn't belong on the list, as it also appears in a different email. I can't see a way to logically remove it from the "disappoint" entry as listed, though. So that would be the exception, not necessarily the standard. 01:02, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Hey, should words seen/heard in SBCG4AP count? I've seen a few words on this list that also appear in an episode of the game (e.g. galvanized, bitter), and I want to know if they should be removed. And while I'm at it, does the "salty plum soda" thing count as an appearance of "salty"? 11:43, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

EDIT: After looking over the rest of the talk page a little bit, it looks as if SBCG4AP words shouldn't count. I'm still asking about the plum soda thing though.
 +
:I think SBCG4AP should count.  It didn't exist when this page was created, so the rules didn't take it into account.  SBCG4AP is much more like a series of interactive episodes than the games on the site.  -166.137.252.90 13:03, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Recently an anonny added the word eagle as a word only seen or said once. However, this word has recently been used in a Skills of an Artist episode. The rules of this page state that other webpages are generally disqualified, as the episodes are uploaded through Twitter and YouTube. However, it's important to note how with the death of Flash, the Brothers Chaps have been slowly migrating to other platforms, such as the ones I've already noted. So with SoaA and other content to come being uploaded through platforms such as YouTube and not to the H*R site directly, do these actually count in this list? To add to this, Marzipan's Answering Machine v17.2 has been accepted as an acceptable toon for this, despite being only available through YouTube. - 07:54, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
 +
:From what I can see this list is including videos accessible on Homestarrunner.com. This would mean things like Decemberween Dangeresque and MAM 17 would count, since they're on homestarrunner.com despite the video files being hosted on YouTube. Skills of an Artist videos are also on YouTube but are not on Homestarrunner.com, so I'm guessing that's the reason they're not counted. (Though there is also at least one DVD-exclusive video on here as well. Not sure how to explain those being here.) 01:53, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

::Now it looks like the Skills of an Artist episodes have been made available on the website. I'm inclined to say that would make them eligible for contribution to this page. 05:24, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

I have been told off a multitude of times for taking things "too personally", however, I have been reverted twice on this page. Should I not care and give up? No! Because guess what? Even though the brothers chaps are taking their sweet time releasing anything, I'm still trying to do anything on this wiki! Anyways, the words I put on there were "Expando" and "Mortar board". "Expando" was rejected for "not being a word", and hey, guess what! Neither is "Horrorshow"! "Mortar Board" is what makes this relate to the Twitter issue. The Mortar Board tweet is the most recent reply and one added by me. So I took some form of responsibility putting it here. I think things he says on twitter should count here. Twitter counts as much as homestar media as the stuff on the website. Why am I taking all of this so personally? I see a list of names of other people on the wiki and you bet I wanna be a part of a large list of people on the wiki! I feel like being the ONLY PERSON ON THE WIKI WHO EDITS NOWADAYS, I should be able to add to this without being reverted by a yellow bellied skink who can't MAKE A FREAKING ACCOUNT AND SLANDERS MY GOOD NAME BY REMOVING ME FOR ADDING SOMETHING PRETTY LEGIT. Anyways, you can tell I'm pretty tired of IPs, should I be? No. But am I? Yes. Should I be taking this personally so much? This is super frustrating! If you don't understand that you don't understand anything. --J∃ffJMan 16:11, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

:Okay, please calm down, Jeff. Yes, your edit got reverted. It happens to everyone, and you shouldn't take it personally, no matter how many times it happens; you don't need to feel obligated to add stuff to the wiki every waking moment. The page says that only words that appear in the proper toons count. While it doesn't specify that @StrongBadActual doesn't count, I do believe that it's included in the "etc." of what's not considered a toon. If we did include Twitter in this, I can bet you that at least half of the list would be removed.<br>What do you have against IPs so much, anyway? Just because they don't have an account doesn't mean they're "wrong". Some people don't want to (or can't!) create an account, and we should respect that. Think of it this way: Would you have gotten this upset if a sysop reverted your edit instead of an IP? If yes, then you should take a moment to consider the double standard you have there.<br> <small>(Besides, I'm pretty sure that "mortarboard" is spelled as one word, and you spelled it as two different words that are not one word.)</small> 17:13, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

::I feel like in feeling obligated to respond I'm doing a slight antithesis to what you said about the "every waking moment" thing, so I'll just say thanks for talking me down and, I don't know why I harbor so much resentment towards IPs. I guess its because I see a name like 89.221.2444 and think "Is that a spam bot or a guy who disagrees with a choice I made on a wiki page?". And the answer varies between the too, as is the reason I said that. [edit] Questions

Do "rainbow" and "rainbows" count as different words, or just a variation of the same root? Which also brings me to my second question, why don't we link the words to the only toon they each appear in? EDIT: Ah, let others guess. My bad. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing the links somewhere, perhaps the talk page. It would be easier for other users to verify if they were used more than once or not. Thunderbird 22:30, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Question one - I'd allow them both. (Except "rainbow" appears in at least flashback and website.) Question two - it's pretty easy to do a search for the terms. I check 'em all anyway. Links wouldn't help show that a word appeared more than once anyway, it'd just show the one place the contributor found it. You'd still have to Search to verify. And of course every new toon that comes out means some might have to be deleted.... Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:39, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] flock

"Flock" appears in halloweener and on the Yearbook Character Page (in The King of Town's bio). Should this count as two appearances, or should we discount the Yearbook Character Page? Thoughts, please. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:42, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

I haven't looked through the History much, but I'm guessing either you forgot about them or someone else may be using your login. If you suspect the latter, I'd advise changing your password right away. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:46, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Geshmalder: How long ago was this? I saw one edit from you for "scalawag", and then three edits earlier on, one involving "chai". Are those the ones you're referring to? — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:14, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Smaller

My example of a commonplace word seen once had to go due to business trip. Like I said, no matter how cool, there it goes. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:18, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Scope

Do words in commentaries count? What about interviews? If a word is said in a toon that counts and a side-project (concerts, etc.) that doesn't, is the first one disqualified? Sorry, I just found a few in the commentaries that could count, but not sure if using commentary quotes fits the page.--Jellote wuz here 20:43, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

From the article's intro:
Only toons (big, shorts, SBEmails, Answering Machines, character pages, etc.) count, including the Easter eggs within the toon. Don't include the actual games, Videlectrix pages, Strong Sad's Lament, other webpages opened through Easter eggs, commentaries, etc.

[edit] Questions.

 1. If a word previously used once is re-used in rock opera, 160 Seconds, Email Intros, or something along those lines, does that count as two instances of the word?
 2. Do the three-letter words in boring (really) count as instances of those words? "jib" and "spy" were originally on the list, depsite the fact that they were both also used in b(r).
 3. Should we put a "search" function near each word to check that they really are used once? I had to manually search literally every word on the list on the day when I removed all the words that had been re-used.
 4. Is there a particular reason we sign each word we add?
 5. When "change-up" was originally added, it did not have the hyphen, but it was added just minutes later. Should it have the hyphen or not? With the hyphen, it looks like it's two words. Similar for "Jew's harp" - that's two words as one word.
 6. When The Knights Who Say Ni re-added a couple of words after my mass deletion, he questioned a couple of other words that I had removed in his edit summary. The first time "dons" is used is as a verb, but the second time it is used is as a noun - a proper noun. So does that count as two instances? And the second time "frustrating" is used is in "un-frustrating" - so does that count as two instances?

 1. Yes.
 2. Yes.
 3. No.
 4. Yes.
 5. Maybe.
 6. Yes and yes.
Additionally, you MAY be taking this just-for-fun page just a TEENSY bit too seriously. — Defender1031*Talk 16:00, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
4. What is the reason?
7. I know this is extremely unlikely to happen, especially given the site's current status, but what would we have to do with this list if every single word on it was re-used?
And how am I taking this page seriously? RickTommy (edits) 13:07, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
4. So we know who found it.
7. Absolutely nothing.
No number. Asking little nitty gritty questions about the nuances of a page is taking it seriously.

If the word is pronounced one way and then quickly corrected by another character (as was the case in The House That Gave Sucky Tricks), is that one instance or two? The Knights Who Say Ni 07:49, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
The deuce. I hadn't been paying attention to how many times each word was said in the toon because I was pretty sure it would be only once, forgetting about Strong Sad's interruptions. I also encountered a word that was said twice in different toons, with different pronunciations and different definitions, so I didn't count it either. -- ■■   PURPLE  WRENCH   ■■ 14:24, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
What's the rule about if a word is said once and then seen but not said later on? The Knights Who Say Ni 19:02, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
It would go in Honorable Mentions (or not listed at all), since this page is "Words said or seen once". Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 19:15, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
There seems to be a fair amount of editing on this page regarding other forms of a word appearing. The Knights Who Say Ni 01:02, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

[edit] SBCG4AP Words

Hey, should words seen/heard in SBCG4AP count? I've seen a few words on this list that also appear in an episode of the game (e.g. galvanized, bitter), and I want to know if they should be removed. And while I'm at it, does the "salty plum soda" thing count as an appearance of "salty"? Lira (talk) 11:43, 3 May 2016 (UTC) EDIT: After looking over the rest of the talk page a little bit, it looks as if SBCG4AP words shouldn't count. I'm still asking about the plum soda thing though.

I think SBCG4AP should count. It didn't exist when this page was created, so the rules didn't take it into account. SBCG4AP is much more like a series of interactive episodes than the games on the site. -166.137.252.90 13:03, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
I'm assuming @StrongBadActual doesn't count either, but it should. SBCG4AP and @SBA should be added to the rules, or there could be a non-toon section or something. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 07:01, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Jew's harp

Why is Jew's harp on this list? I would remove it, but since Qermaq added it himself and I can't find an explanation from him, I'm wondering if anyone else knows. - Catjaz63 02:59, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Did you follow the link? It's to The Best Decemberween Ever. Or is there some other reason you don't think it fits? Heimstern Läufer 11:30, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Not speaking for him, but I know I have a little bit of an issue with it. Whatever happened to not proper nouns? Lira (talk) 14:33, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Is it a proper noun, though? It's sort of a weird in-between case. Whatever the case, Qermaq made the page, Qermaq made the rules, and Qermaq added that entry. --Jay (Talk) 23:11, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

[edit] Twitter/YouTube Content

- Catjaz63 07:54, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

From what I can see this list is including videos accessible on Homestarrunner.com. Not sure how to explain those being here.) DEI DAT VMdatvm center\super contra 01:53, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
Now it looks like the Skills of an Artist episodes have been made available on the website. I'm inclined to say that would make them eligible for contribution to this page. The Knights Who Say Ni 05:24, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

Okay, please calm down, Jeff. If we did include Twitter in this, I can bet you that at least half of the list would be removed.
What do you have against IPs so much, anyway? Just because they don't have an account doesn't mean they're "wrong". Some people don't want to (or can't!) create an account, and we should respect that. Think of it this way: Would you have gotten this upset if a sysop reverted your edit instead of an IP? If yes, then you should take a moment to consider the double standard you have there.
(Besides, I'm pretty sure that "mortarboard" is spelled as one word, and you spelled it as two different words that are not one word.)Keegster2 (Howl at me) 17:13, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
I feel like in feeling obligated to respond I'm doing a slight antithesis to what you said about the "every waking moment" thing, so I'll just say thanks for talking me down and, I don't know why I harbor so much resentment towards IPs. I guess its because I see a name like 89.221.2444 and think "Is that a spam bot or a guy who disagrees with a choice I made on a wiki page?". And the answer varies between the too, as is the reason I said that. Thanks again, --J∃ffJMan
 1. This page specifies toons only. @SBA is not a toon.
 2. Even if @SBA counted, mortarboard has been been said there previously.
So, I'm gonna have to revert again. Sorry. -113.37.226.89 02:52, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
