How to add images

Here's a quick rundown of how to add images:

1. If you haven't already, read the image use policy. Note that the PNG format is preferred.
2. Over in the toolbox on the left, click Upload file.
3. (A) Browse to the file on your computer.
   (B) Write a brief description in the summary area.
   (C) Click the copyright checkbox.
   (D) Click "Upload file".
4. Place code on your page in the following format, usually at the very top of the page (although you can place it in other places):
   [[Image:IMAGE NAME|thumb and/or POSITION|SIZE|CAPTION]]

To make an image gallery, use the wollowing format:

Image:image1.png|caption 1

Image:image2.png|caption 2

Image:image3.png|caption 3

Start each picture on a new line. You can use links and full wiki markup in the captions.

Click on these links here for a tutorial and more technical info and syntax info. HRWiki policy allows one uploaded image per user with no questions asked. For an example, I placed the following code at the top of your page: [[Image:cheatgold.PNG|thumb|300px|I've got a gold tooth. Wanna see it? Tough!]]

Where to link characters

I had a question. On the page for monster truck, should "The Sad kids" and "The King of town" in the transcript be changed to include links to thier respective pages? FYI, the sentence that would be changed is "{The Sad Kids and the King of Town appear on screen respectively crossed out}". —Smileyface11945

No. Characters are never linked in the transcript. Instead, they are listed at the top of the page in the order in which they appear. Also, whenever you post something on a talk page, type four tildes after it, like this: "~~~~". That will automatically sign your name and put a timestamp after it. How to make the vertical line to appear

How do you make this vertical line appear? | It's used in a lot of links in the wiki, like this, but if I want to use the line, I always have to copy it from somewhere else. Can you press certain keys to make it appear? The Chort 14:11, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I'm glad I could bring you two closer together. I have nothing useful to say here, but since this is my talk page, I feel compelled to comment. The character The Chort is speaking of is called the vertical bar, or pipe. It is used in wiki markup to create piped links, tables, and other things. As Amanda (H*C) said, the key is usually located at the extreme right of the keyboard, just above the Enter (return) key, grouped with the backslash. On some keyboard configurations, the key is on the top row, just to the left of the Backspace (in this case the Enter key is about double its customary size and the Backspace is about half its normal size). I welcome any help I can get. I don't know the best way to go about it. I figure we'll have to temporarily close the STUFF page so that people aren't trying to edit it while we're converting it. Also, I want to open the format up for others to test. I'm trying to get that done tonight. I think the format is really easy to use, but I made it, so there could be problems I'm not seeing. In case you didn't notice, I've discovered what is causing the problem in STUFF. Not external links in and of themselves (notice that "The Legend of Credits" has an external link.) It's the fact that there was an equal sign in one of the links. Try plugging a random equal sign into any fact (link or no) and see what happens. --Jay (Talk) 07:59, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

If you're looking for a response as to the new STUFF's simplicity, I would say it is pretty easy if you follow the directions. I do have a suggestion, though. For the how to revise page you have the entire template out for cutting and pasting, but the initial template setup has the optional things on parts of it. It might make it easier to take the optional notes and the false user votes off of that template so it's easy to cut and paste the entire thing. That's what I think anyway. I went ahead an implemented everything, including Protecting all the templates and DELETING!! all the test pages I could think of. If there are others I missed, feel free to TBD them. New STUFF Verdicts

The new STUFF looks prooty good! One little quibble: it appears that the original posting dates were not included when the open STUFFs were ported. My real question is: how should a VERDICT'D STUFF look? -- tomstiff 13:12, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I fixed the dates. For verdicts, we can either move the items to the talk pages (like we do now), or they could be moved to a different subpage, like HRWIKI:STUFF Archive/pagename, for example. If we use an archive subpage, we should put a reference link on the talk page with the fact in question and the verdict.

As items close, they should definitely be moved somewhere. Otherwise, if down the line someone STUFFs something new from a page, all the old, closed facts will still be there. Once a template subpage is empty (all the facts have closed), the template subpage should be deleted. — It's dot com 17:13, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

STUFF query

Hey It's dot com, I just noticed that one of bottom 10's STUFF entries is not ever going to succeed due to the author's mistake. (The Knott's Berry Farm one) It is not true, and will not get a single acceptance vote. I just thought it might be best to close that one now and save everybody time. On that note, I have also noticed that you are the only one who ever closes STUFFed facts, and was wondering if you wanted a hand with that. I am willing to help you out if you want me to.

To tell the truth, I don't mind doing it at all; it's fun. But others are of course welcome to do it (this is a wiki, after all); and certainly you should at least know how. Anonymous STUFFing

Okay, it's one thing to say that Anonnies can't VOTE in STUFF facts. It's another entirely to say that they can't CREATE facts; I'd taken it for granted that they could. --Jay (Talk) 18:18, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

The rules state: "You may only edit arguments while logged in." I would think that extends to creating items. If a user cares enough about an item, he can log in to create it. If an item truly is important, a logged-in user has probably already made it anyway. As for this particular item, it was such a stretch that it would have been deleted outright from the page. If you truly feel, however, that it needs to go through the process, resubmit it anew (but I've got a thousand dollars I would bet as to how the verdict will end up). — It's dot com 18:26, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Well, I don't disagree that it was a waste of space. I was more thinking about future reference—if someone actually adds a fact worth STUFFing. I'll admit, I threw it out on a technicality. A technicality I would probably overlook if it had any merit at all. The last couple of days it seems like people are abusing the STUFF page, STUFFing the most trivial bits of nothing. Fair enough. For example, I completely deleted a false "Fact" yesterday (regarding The Cheat's bendable arms never appearing before outside of Cheat Commandos, in spite of the fact that they'd been seen in caper and virus), so imagine my surprise today to find that it had been re-added (albeit prematurely Verdicted). Was it the same guy? How could multiple people make that mistake? Baseball fan!

I should probably add this to my user page sooner or later, but I'm a huge fan of baseball, and Major League Baseball in particular, and more specifically the Texas Rangers Baseball Club. I've got my trusty Rangers ballcap on right now, as always. I've been to several games this year and plan on more. I don't live in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, otherwise I would have season tickets at Ameriquest Field. I make up for it by keeping track of the team on TV, radio, and at mlb.com using Gameday, Gameday Audio, and MLB.TV. I mainly follow the AL (my second-favorite club is the Yankees), but I do like some NL teams: the Nationals, the Astros, the Mets, and (sorry) the Cubs, to name a few. Pertmywert, to answer the question you asked earlier, I think you're a fine user. You've made several good contributions recently, including some necessary reverts. Also, in all seriousness, I appreciate your willingness to welcome new users. I think your ♥ is in the right place there. (Side note: there's a link in your welcome template that says "me" but actually points to JoeyDay. Perhaps change "me" to "JoeyDay".)

Remember that not everybody stays at their computer every minute of every day, so sometimes patience is required when waiting for a response. And it's an unfortunate fact that many of the users go unnoticed who do a lot of little but important things. It's like an umpire in baseball, who nobody pays any attention to when everything is going fine, but people rant and shout when a call is blown.

A couple of pointers: whenever you're describing your edits, try to avoid emotionally charged words like "useless", etc. It's sufficient just to say "reverted such-and-such to version by so-and-so". Even better, try to find the good parts of an edit see if you can reword them so they fit into the article. (See this edit for an example.)

To sum up, keep up the good work learning, gaining experience, and making quality contributions.

br format

I was just wondering why you changed the <br clear="all" /> to <br style="clear:both" /> on Template:Strong Bad Email. Well, earlier this week I read this: "IE generally does not seem to appreciate using br as a clearing agent. Too, the clear attribute is deprecated in html4 in favor of the style property." Thanks, TBird! Organizing Strong Bad Emails in different ways I can understand. But it just didn't make sense to have two lists with identical information organized the same way. The Process

Hey, Dot com, it's The Smoking Monkey. As you seem both knowledgeable and up front about how things get done, I thought I'd come to you. Recently, I've been doing the whole recent change patrolling bit, and have come up with the following questions:

• Do all edits done by anonymous users need to be reverted? I've encountered a few that are correct or beneficial.
• Conversely, if a registered user makes a questionable edit (say, for example, adding a goof or remark that is open to debate), what would I do? I've reverted a couple, and I need to make sure this is within the rules.

Thanks for any input you might have.

Well, Smoking Monkey, anonymous users are more than welcome to contribute. I daresay everyone (with the exception of the handful of people who actually set up the wiki) started out as an anonymous user. They often have insight or experience that are invaluable to getting to the bottom of an article. The reason we keep such a close eye on people who aren't members is that it just happens that most of the edits that are redundant, obvious, or otherwise non-beneficial come from anonymous users. The vast majority of trolls are anonymous as well. So, to make a long story short, do not automatically revert anonymous edits. (Note: if we wanted, we could prevent anonymous editing with a simple setting; obviously, we have not chosen to do this.)

If a logged in user makes a bad edit, it can be reverted just like an anonymous edit. Logged-in users get a little special treatment, however. First of all, it's polite to list a reason in the edit summary instead of simply rolling back the page. Second, if an edit is borderline, strongly consider starting a discussion on the relevant talk page instead of simply removing another user's work.

That's an excellent way to put it, Tom (I've always assumed your name is Tom... your user page has never said anything other than "Hello world!"). I'll probably steal your rule of thumb and not give you credit, just so you know. ;) To it I would add one thing: if you ever have legitimate doubt about whether an anonymous edit is good or bad, take the action that leads to more content. That is, if someone adds something but you're not sure, then just leave it. But if an anonny deletes something (especially something big) that you think has merit, put it back.

There's always more than one logged-in user looking at these pages, so it all usually gets straightened out in the end. — It's dot com 17:19, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC)

New Template

Thanks Dot Com, that color looks good. I'm just wondering about the centering. On the Email template (the one I modeled this one after), it's much larger, and fills the whole screen from side to side. This one doesn't, so on larger displays, such as mine, it's shifted to the left. Any idea how to center it? (And for the sizing, it's small on the Strong Bad Emails to save space. I don't think it'd be too bad to have medium font on this template, for easier reading and clicking). ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 04:53, 31 Aug 2005 (UTC)
