There are a lot of talk page discussions happening on this wiki. The problem is, this wiki is not very active, so such discussions rarely get consensus and very few things get done. (That's why I'm with a phrase like "I still agree with this.") I think there should be some way to keep track of all the ongoing discussions. 2) When are you going to UNBAN IP addresses who "committed" persistent vandalism?
-
:So's your face. <!-- On the chance that you do *not* want to trade insults like five-years-old boys, let me inform you that this is far from the stupidest prank ever. It's tough to come up with something that is both obviously a prank and yet keeps the wiki operational. I'd rank this one second behind TaviStyle (which is going to be hard to *ever* top in terms of how well it was executed, how much people believed it was real, and how we could still edit pages with general ease). Although this year's was a relatively simple hack, it still required research, development, and debugging. I wasn't sure how it would turn out when I first thought of it, but I think it ended up being hilarious. Maybe you just looked at the main page and didn't try to look at, say, a transcript, which were pretty darn funny. --> — It's dot com 06:41, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

:Sorry, I have to agree with the original post. <!-- IDC: You say "It's tough to come up with something that is both obviously a prank and yet keeps the wiki operational", but I don't agree that it was operational. From my point of view, the site was unusable. It might as well have simply been down. Yes, you could read the pages by viewing the source, but source code is fugly and nobody likes to do that. Yes, it did take some creativity and skill to do, but that doesn't suddenly transform a bad idea into a good one. A properly-done prank would have also added an obvious means of "fixing" the site on the client side for users who tire of the gag. Also, why are we talking in HTML comments? --> - furrykef (Talk at me) 16:01, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

::Sorry, I have to agree with Dot Com. <!-- This was a far cry from last year's prank! There was another way to view the page's contents, BTW: edit the page and hit "Show preview". That was never scrambled and (on readable pages) was always readable. And Wbwolf? No one I'm aware of was immune. Some people (such as me) CLAIMED to be because they were playing along, and there were ways to make an individual post look unscrambled, but everyone saw scrambled posts. The prank was that all the text on every page was arbitrarily scrambled. For no apparent reason at all <!-- If you ask me, it would have been much better to 1) claim it was a virus a la the sbemail "virus", and 2) find a way to make it much less disruptive. Like a button that says "shotgun computer" that will fix it, at the expense of putting a translucent "hole" in the middle of the screen. +
3) If Flash is dead, are you going to cancel HomestarRunner.com ?
-
It's very difficult to come up with a creative prank, and I thought this one was clever and well-implemented. And as others have secretly said above, it was simple to view pages in their original format by using Show Preview. Worst-case scenario: it was a one-day annoyance to people who couldn't figure out how to get around it, and 24 hours later, everything was back to normal. Life goes on, yay. 19:09, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

4) Why wouldn't we see ANY updates from 2011 to 2014?
-
:Wbwolf: For a description of the process, see #Method to the madness. I strongly suggest that you check the integrity of your heart and butt before reading it, though. <!-- ISTK/Kef: It's totally fine if you didn't like this year's prank. It doesn't even bother me if you complain about it (ISTK: although the *way* you complain could use some work). That's the nature of a prank; some people are going to think it's funny, some people aren't going to get it, and some people are going to react negatively. You just can't please everybody, and so it's wasted energy to try (even if we'd done *nothing*, people would have complained, like they complain about TBC doing nothing these last two years). Kef: As for not knowing the workarounds to make the site usable, I guess that's just the nature of the day. As Trey said, good thing it's just one day out of 366 this year. Your notion of "shotgunning" the site to bring it back to normal is a clever and funny idea, but, sadly, impractical to implement given time and other constraints this year. Maybe next year. --> — It's dot com 19:30, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

:::::Look, I'm not sure what your issues are, but the simple truth is that the best thing for you to do is behave like someone who has never even heard the name "Maudi Algabban" (we are not fooled, we know who you are) and has literally zero curiosity about the name or the user's history, while also showing no particular interest toward all the things you show far too much interest over (such as the Pyongyang reference, the hiatuses, and the possibility of homestarrunner.com being taken down) and never, ever, even for a moment, even consider writing loud yelling, swearing posts demanding people unblock you and give you answers to questions we have no way of answering. Also, make constructive Wiki edits (that means not vandalism, with or without scare quotes), not just Talk page chatter. Basically, you need to start over completely and pretend you are not and were never you and do not care about you - and that doesn't mean to insult yourself, it means do not mention yourself. You've built up far too much bad karma, so it's very likely that even the slightest hint that you are you will be treated with immediate suspicion, and likely result in further blocks. And if you think this is unreasonable, perhaps what you really need to do is to find a way to end your obsession with this Wiki. :::::::I'm not sure what you're after (I'm 99% certain PNG doesn't have "subtypes"...), but based on the fact that you said 24, I'm guessing you mean 24-bit, as in, as opposed to a palletised image? If that's what you want, then look in the title bar of the image in The GIMP... if it says "Indexed", then when you save it as .PNG it'll be a palletised image; if it says "RGB" it'll be saved as a 24-bit RGB image. You can switch between the two by choosing "Mode" from the "Image" menu. If you open a GIF it'll always start as "Indexed" (since that's how GIFs work). 02:19, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

:I disagree. YouTube is really more of a dumping ground for all the old Flash stuff that is still available on the site, but might not be should the Flash plug be pulled. And though I prefer to avoid YouTube, I don't think the Homestar Runner YouTube channel has been updated in months. Because YouTube is a place where absolutely nothing happens. I was just looking at the HRWiki:Main page redesign, and it had something entitled, "On this day..." for H*R stuff that happened on that day in history. I like the idea of that, but when I looked on it, it had stuff for February 9th. Where I live, it's still February 8th. ::How long exactly will the COVID-related logos continue to show up? It's been long enough now - if it was even necessary in the first place. Yes, we get it. Current events, the end times have almost come, we almost danced the Conga of the Apocalypse, etc. We get that. I think everyone who visits this wiki is aware of that by now. I think we'd all be aware of that even if this wiki's logo didn't shove it in our faces every few page loads (though I do appreciate that it is no longer EVERY page load like it was at first). And I don't think any of us like being reminded of it - especially not this long after the fact. I'm sure most of us visit this wiki to take our minds off of the bad news for a while, not to be reminded of it by the logo. But it's your call, I suppose. I do hope I'm not coming across as rude - I just want to give my two cents on the matter since no one has brought up this point of view yet. :::What's funny is I agree with you—it has been long enough now, and I don't like being reminded of it, either. In fact I came this close to taking it down completely a couple of days ago, but I stopped myself. It just didn't feel right, since this mess is still very much not over. But I toned it way down (btw, the most it has ever appeared is on half of all page loads; now it's on a twelfth). If you'd like to eliminate it completely, you can of course create an account and then set whatever logo you like on your user CSS page. As you mention, no one else has brought up this point of view yet. If they do, I'll reconsider whether it's time to take it down altogether. — It's dot com 03:03, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

::::I apologize if I came across as preemptively defensive earlier. I'm not the best at wording, so I was gulp-afraid of saying the wrong thing and being misunderstood... that's happened to me a lot, especially in discussions about this pandemic. (Which is the major reason for me not liking to be reminded of it too often if possible.)
+
::::2) Oh yes, I do remember that even in the beginning it wasn't on every page load. I think I initially assumed it was on only certain pages or something. And I did notice that it wasn't appearing as frequently lately, but I wasn't sure if that meant it had been toned down or was just a coincidence (at one point I even thought it was finally gone). Once every 12 page loads is acceptable, especially now that I know I'm not the only one who's tired of it. ;)
+
::::3) I didn't know it was possible to change the logo on my user CSS page. I don't have a lot of practice with CSS but I might give it a try. Thanks for letting me know!
+
::::4) I suppose it should be mentioned: technically I do have an account here, that I made when I was about 14 or 15. Same with the forum. But I've haven't been to the forum in years and have barely used the wiki account - instead, I mostly just browse the wiki, and, on VERY rare occasions, post on talk pages. Every once in a while I think about logging in and making contributions more often and becoming a regular user (after all, I read talk pages more than the average non-contributing user does, and several times I've thought of edits I could make), but... I said a LOT of dumb things on the forum back in the day, and my wiki and forum usernames are similar, so I cringe thinking about the possibility that people might still remember all of that. One of these days I'm going to see if I can still log in so I can change my username.

I was wondering, how did you install it into MediaWiki. Because it comes in handy in more ways than one. Simply searching for autocolumn on the MediaWiki.org website results in nothing. I'd ask the MediaWiki site, but they look like they have enough on their hands (much more so than here.) Twice, I've come across edits that go against tradition. I'm fairly certain we have never had a disambiguation with a non-name-matching entry or a categorised redirect, and I also don't understand the sudden acceptance for them<!--not unlike the sudden like for clones in Smash Bros. when certain ones were given an official name-->. 13:09, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
+
:Tradition for tradition's sake isn't necessarily a good thing. If all decisions were made purely based on precedent, nothing would ever change. Also, since these edits have been made, they are no longer unprecedented. When these precedents were established is irrelevant; what matters is whether these practices should continue based on their own merits.
+
:The first is more common than you think (Haunted House, for instance, has no links with "Haunted House" in the title). The content of the page is just as relevant as its title, so I see no reason to enforce such a restriction. I can imagine a user looking for the sbemail about eggs, and visiting that disambiguation for help finding it.
+
:I'm more conflicted on the second thing. I can see the benefits, but to me, a categorised redirect is an indication that either the redirect should get its own page, or that the page should be categorised instead of the redirect. I'd prefer a more elegant solution, but it's not harming anyone and is unlikely to cause confusion, so I'm fine with it staying. 19:12, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

Although the DVD commentaries are generally just the two Brothers Chaps, many times they are joined by friends and family and/or Matt will portray one of the dumb animal characters. The toon articles all identify who is present for the DVD version with a "Commentary by:" subheader, but is there a separate article tracking commentators? If not this is something that I think would be a good addition to the wiki. -- 17:26, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
+
:Each DVD page (e.g. strongbad_email.exe Disc One) lists the commentators of each toon, but it might be interesting and helpful to have a centralized list of all of them. Ideally it should be formatted differently from the DVD articles (such as having separate sections for each character), or else it might be redundant. 18:05, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Discussions

There are a lot of talk page discussions happening on this wiki. The problem is, this wiki is not very active, so such discussions rarely get consensus and very few things get done. (That's why I'm always reviving old discussions with a phrase like "I still agree with this.") I think there should be some way to keep track of all the ongoing discussions. Maybe a HRWiki:Discussions page or something to keep these discussions from becoming inactive. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 01:37, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

Some questions we would like to ask about...

Hi there, I'm a stranger who wants to ask you some questions.

1) When will ALL the old Flash pages turn to HTML5?

2) When are you going to UNBAN IP addresses who "committed" persistent vandalism?

3) If Flash is dead, are you going to cancel HomestarRunner.com ?

4) Why wouldn't we see ANY updates from 2011 to 2014?

5) Could y'all please tell us what email The Brothers Chaps have?

--83.185.35.154 18:37, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

1) We don't know. Ask the Brothers Chaps.
2) Never. Why should we?
3) You'll have to be more specific as to what that means exactly. We aren't involved with homestarrunner.com, so we can't take down someone else's website. And The Brothers Chaps are planning to give the site a HTML5 update, so they won't take it down.
4) Kids, creative burnout, side projects, etc. See HRWiki:Hiatuses for more details.
5) Their email address used to be brotherschaps@homestarrunner.com, but it was removed from the site's Email page, so it seems @StrongBadActual is now their primary contact method.
Hope this helps! Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 22:33, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

Look, I'm not sure what your issues are, but the simple truth is that the best thing for you to do is behave like someone who has never even heard the name "Maudi Algabban" (we are not fooled, we know who you are) and has literally zero curiosity about the name or the user's history, while also showing no particular interest toward all the things you show far too much interest over (such as the Pyongyang reference, the hiatuses, and the possibility of homestarrunner.com being taken down) and never, ever, even for a moment, even consider writing loud yelling, swearing posts demanding people unblock you and give you answers to questions we have no way of answering. You've been pulling these bizarre stunts for literal years. --Jay (Gobble) 23:50, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

I disagree. I would mention that most new content is now posted on Twitter, but much of it doesn't qualify as full toons that demand full attention. (This may change, but not in the foreseeable future). -- 68.37.43.131 13:35, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
There actually is SOME original content on there, if you bother to look. ToaJuaraevo01 File:Homsar-in-motion.gif 04:12, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
What exactly do you mean "new content watchlist"? YouTube-exclusive content is already listed and documented in numerous places. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 07:38, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Redesign

I was just looking at the HRWiki:Main page redesign, and it had something entitled, "On this day..." for H*R stuff that happened on that day in history. I like the idea of that, but when I looked on it, it had stuff for February 9th. Where I live, it's still February 8th. I know this wiki is centered around UTC, but it could be very confusing for someone who doesn't know that. -Minecraft lover147 04:50, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Sick Homestar, BRAH

Why is homestar sick looking on the main page button? Found no other place to post this question --Jeffjman[2] 16:04, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

How long exactly will the COVID-related logos continue to show up? 76.184.23.181 01:24, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
What's funny is I agree with you—it has been long enough now, and I don't like being reminded of it, either.
1) You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that you agree with me for the most part! :)
I apologize if I came across as preemptively defensive earlier. I'm not the best at wording, so I was gulp-afraid of saying the wrong thing and being misunderstood... that's happened to me a lot, especially in discussions about this pandemic. (Which is the major reason for me not liking to be reminded of it too often if possible.)
2) Oh yes, I do remember that even in the beginning it wasn't on every page load. I think I initially assumed it was on only certain pages or something. And I did notice that it wasn't appearing as frequently lately, but I wasn't sure if that meant it had been toned down or was just a coincidence (at one point I even thought it was finally gone). Once every 12 page loads is acceptable, especially now that I know I'm not the only one who's tired of it. ;)
3) I didn't know it was possible to change the logo on my user CSS page. I don't have a lot of practice with CSS but I might give it a try. Thanks for letting me know!
4) I suppose it should be mentioned: technically I do have an account here, that I made when I was about 14 or 15.

What's new correction

The "What's New" should have the Fan Costumes from Thanksgiving at the bottom. Wolf O'Donnel 03:52, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

I think whoever edited What's New last opted to take the Fan Costumes out instead, because the Halloween toon is a bigger, more significant update. The importance of updates should be considered alongside their recent,,,ness. A big toon should take priority over a short, and so on. --DorianGray 04:33, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
I did that. I was under the impression that the box was meant to primarily show the updates on the site's "what's new" button. The Halloween toon is there, while the Fan Costumes is not. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 04:37, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
A good rule of thumb is that we should list everything within the last month and anything that's still in the What's New button, and if we still have space to fill, we can include older things that you can actually watch, like toons. — It's dot com 14:07, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Site on the fritz

The wiki has been taking an age to load lately. Is there something amiss or do just that many people wanna know what the crap Bod is? Guybrush20X6 12:21, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

Yeah that happens sometimes, especially when there's a new toon. — It's dot com 16:35, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

History preservation

Could you keep the pages for the stuff that will be removed from the website in 2021 (e.g. games, character videos, etc.) on the Wiki, so as to preserve the history of the website? (That "Mashed Potato Jones" comment from "Halloween Fairstival" and other stuff that was changed should be kept on the Wiki, too)

Has there been any announcement indicating that content will be removed from the website? I believe individuals have made content archives and projects such as Lightspark should allow such content to remain playable after flash's EOL. So we should be ok? Still I haven't seen any notice of content deletion as of yet. --Stux 18:06, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Remove FeedBurner from the main page

If we're not doing a main page redesign in the near future, could we at least replace the link to FeedBurner with @StrongBadActual? It's where updates really happen now. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 07:02, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

I agree with Elcool. Which is why I decided to be bold and make the exact update he suggests. --Jay (Gobble) 10:02, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
A bold edit? on the Main Page?!?!? :O Awesome! Elcool (talk)(contribs) 12:28, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
NOTE: I've updated the redesign discussion here in response to this update. --Stux 19:47, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
To Elcool, Jay, and the rest of the sysops (and the greater wiki community at large): I would greatly appreciate everyone's feedback on if and how to move forward with the main page redesign! This is another thing that has stalled for years and I think even small changes would be helpful. However, changes for the main page need to begin with sysop and admin participation! Thanks! --Stux 13:53, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Flash archive preservation

What are we going to do with the wiki's flash archives? We need to preserve the old content, and there isn't any sign that the brothers chaps will post them on youtube.

[They've got their top man on it.] And we got all the files backed up here so if needed we can run our own legacy player for stuff like Where the Crap are we? or worst case scenario, beg Newgrounds for their player. Guybrush20X6 00:16, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
And just like that, they've unveiled a new HTML site that runs Ruffle for the old crap! I already found two Easter eggs! Guybrush20X6 01:50, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

Some sbemails redirect to the wrong ones.

As an example: 1 step ahead redirects to sbemail 29 if you take the link to http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail28.html ColdReactive 08:13, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Sounds like a redirect bug to me (or similar). It could be noted in the Post-Flash Site Update page. But more importantly TBC should be made aware of this so it can be fixed. Not sure what the best way to do that is, I don't think they have a 'report site problems' link or similar. Oh, I guess there's also twitter! --Stux 08:20, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Index page seems to be missing from the Main Page

The title says it all: every since the Post-Flash Site Update, it seems the Index Page has risen to prominence a bit more than before. It should probably be included in the Main Page as well! --Stux 09:10, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

I see this a lot. Why do people say that the title says it all and then go on to say more things? Anyway I added the index page to the main page. — It's dot com 16:45, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
That is a very good question! I had never thought of that before. I almost didn't put the phrase in, but I still felt like it should go there. People are riddled and mired in contradiction. That's the only thing that comes to mind. Also, thank you very much for adding the link! --Stux 13:51, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Breaking tradition

Twice, I've come across edits that go against tradition. I'm fairly certain we have never had a disambiguation with a non-name-matching entry or a categorised redirect, and I also don't understand the sudden acceptance for them. RickTommy (edits) 13:09, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

Tradition for tradition's sake isn't necessarily a good thing. If all decisions were made purely based on precedent, nothing would ever change. Also, since these edits have been made, they are no longer unprecedented. When these precedents were established is irrelevant; what matters is whether these practices should continue based on their own merits.
The first is more common than you think (Haunted House, for instance, has no links with "Haunted House" in the title). The content of the page is just as relevant as its title, so I see no reason to enforce such a restriction. I can imagine a user looking for the sbemail about eggs, and visiting that disambiguation for help finding it.
I'm more conflicted on the second thing. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 19:12, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

Markiplier Mentions

I recently noticed the Markiplier has referenced Homestarrunner.com on more than one occasion.

He made a vague reference to the Virus SBEmail in his :The Game: trilogy.

Also in his playthrough of Home Improvisation I noticed that one of the boxes in the game has Fhqwhgads printed on it. ToaJuaraevo01 File:Homsar-in-motion.gif 22:19, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

Markiplier is a good fit for Other Sightings. See the entries for Brutalmoose, DaThings, or PeanutButterGamer for examples of how to note the mentions. Describe Markiplier's references and link to the videos where they appear, timestamped if possible. The "Home Improvisation" reference can go in Game Sightings. -- Bleu Ninja 05:27, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

DVD commentary filmographies?

Although the DVD commentaries are generally just the two Brothers Chaps, many times they are joined by friends and family and/or Matt will portray one of the dumb animal characters. The toon articles all identify who is present for the DVD version with a "Commentary by:" subheader, but is there a separate article tracking commentators? Something like Category:Filmography, Strong Bad Email By Name of Sender, or Fan Costumes#Costumes. If not this is something that I think would be a good addition to the wiki. -- Bleu Ninja 17:26, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Each DVD page (e.g. strongbad_email.exe Disc One) lists the commentators of each toon, but it might be interesting and helpful to have a centralized list of all of them. Ideally it should be formatted differently from the DVD articles (such as having separate sections for each character), or else it might be redundant. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 18:05, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Loading issues

I've been having some loading issues on both Chrome and Firefox with ad blockers off. Wolf O'Donnel 08:35, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

The wiki tends to load slower when it receives more traffic. My guess is that more people are coming here to check if the Halloween toon/teaser is out. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 03:45, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
