[edit] Rrll Important
Okay, a lot of times people say "Hey, this was here lots of times" for something un-jokely, like Pizza, Pie, Peas, Diapers, and other things, and they have been listed as inside jokes or running gags. Those things shou;d be listed under the items category or the Items page rather than here, don't you think? SaltyTalk! 18:33, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- I think the reasoning here is that they might have secret significance with the Bros. Chaps that we don't know about. Thus, an inside joke. --DorianGray
- Exactly. It kinda falls under "Why pie and not cookies? Why pizza and not fried chicken? Plus, items are more for reccuring items used in the universe such as Pom Pom's gun, or Strong Sad's iPod. Items, I'm pretty sure, have to be in a somewhat uniformed design, not "a word here, a costume or abstract reference there". ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 18:43, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] New head explode page?
I think we need an Inside Joke for The Cheat's head exploding. It happens many times, if I'm not mistaking, but what would we title it as? Any ideas? -- FireBird
- I agree. How 'bout "The Cheat's Head Exploding"? — InterruptorJones[[]]
- Sounds good to me. Let's see what other people think. -- FireBird
- Yeah, let's do it. The Cheat's Head Exploding. -- Tom 16:47, 6 Oct 2004 (MST)
[edit] "His Mom was proud of him"
This is an inside joke that seems to pop up every time there's a news article on the site. Shouldn't it have it's own page? Anyone hate that idea? Mila 07:41, 14 Feb 2005 (MST)
- I have no idea what you're trying to say. I've never seen "His Mom was proud of him" on any "news articles". In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a news article. Please explain. →FireBird
- The newspaper clipping in time capsule- and I can't find any other right now, but I'm sure I've seen it many times. I'll post more here when I have some time. Mila 08:59, 14 Feb 2005 (MST)
- Perhaps this shouldn't be an inside joke but a running gag. Sbdisciples 02:35, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Match this with the category
How does this page match with the page? -- spblat 24 Oct 2004
(later) Screw it. This page shouldn't exist. I have redirected it to the category of the same name. (But why doesn't the special link work in the redirect??!!?!!) Before I did all this, I did two things:
- Made sure every item referenced in this page had a tag. About 10 did not, and I corrected this.
- Took the nice blurbs about what makes an Inside Joke and copied them them to .
-- spblat 18:12, 24 Oct 2004 (MST)
- Hello there. Judging from your edits, I'm pretty sure you know this by now, but I just want to make sure. I believe I've answered your question over in the talk page for the FAQ. Just check it out to make sure. If not, ask again. Thanks. -- Tom 19:28, 24 Oct 2004 (MST)
Yeah, I had a feeling I went too far on this one. Since the links from "Inside Jokes" are still not synchronized with the Category of the same name, what if we deleted the links from here and added "Please see the "Inside Jokes" category page for an up-to-date list of inside jokes"? Barring that, I guess we have to get this list up to date and make sure we keep it synced, ya? spblat 20:03, 24 Oct 2004 (MST)
- Ah, you bring up a good point. The Inside Jokes page and the Inside Jokes Category don't match up. Come to think of it, the same probably appilies to the Rejects as well. In order to not violate HRWiki:Once And Only Once, perhaps a template with the category included would work? Let me see what I can come up with... -- Tom 20:29, 24 Oct 2004 (MST)
- Yeah, so that template thing didn't work. I've added a link to the category per your suggestion. I also added a note in the code that editors should make sure they update the link to the category as well. Very good. Carry on. -- Tom 20:41, 24 Oct 2004 (MST)
[edit] Definition
There are very few true known inside jokes on H*R, the inside being TBC the outside being us. Lemke would be the best example. Kewpie Dan, and Van Buren being others. We really don't "get" these. Lemke has been explained to us, but its still only really funny between the brothers. There could be lots of jokes that they put out there that we don't even catch. Something like the The S is for Sucks dragon is mearly obscure and not really an inside joke. - Dr Haggis - Talk 03:35, 11 Jan 2005 (MST)
- I think the definition we're using is a joke that only a longtime or "hardcore" Homestar fan will understand. It's a little something TBC will slip in to see if you've been paying attention. --DG 11:42, 14 Feb 2005 (MST)
- The number of times something is mentioned doesn't determine if it is an "inside joke" or not. Here, a true inside joke is one shared only between TBC and the other contributors. Most of the "jokes" listed here are merely "things that haven’t appeared that many times." This should not determine its classification. - Dr Haggis - Talk 11:36, 20 Feb 2005 (MST)
[edit] Lowercase I's
Something I've noticed almost every time it's come up is in the emails/toons where there's a title or handwriting there always seem to be lowercase I's, most notibly when things are all caps. Would this be an inside joke, even worth mentioning, or what? --AndrewNeo 22:02, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- The font TBC use for handwriting, Ahngberhand, doesn't have a capital "I". --Gafaddict 22:08, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- That would be an excellent reason. I feel stupid now. Thank you! --AndrewNeo 00:55, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
- I actually think this is a good idea. In Shopping for Danger, the Price Style supermarket's logo is written PRiCE STYLE. --Some HSR themed username 13:55, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- And now I see another instance in Senorial Day on Bubs' LOW SAViNGS tire. --Some HSR themed username 17:32, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'ma go make a mock up in my userspace to see if this article has any merit. Check it out here Username-talk 23:02, 15 Jul 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Jibblies
Should we count the jibblies as an inside joke? They have happened three times. Rogue Leader / (my talk)
Good point... --MrsCommanderson 21:19, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Difference between inside jokes and running gags?
Someone please explain the difference to me. Several articles appear under both.--User:RatherAnnoying
- I'm not sure, but I think a running gag is something that appears a lot, and an inside joke is a joke you wouldn't have gotten if you hadn't seen some of the cartoons. (I'm just babbling now). Frankly, I don't see a very big difference between the two. — talk Bubsty edits 02:28, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Andy Griffith Inside joke?
Would Andy Griffith/The Andy Griffith Show be a valid inside joke? Since in extra plug his head taped on the TV, and in highschool Don Knotts shows up in the Roman-time thing... just want to make sure it's valid. Thanks. --MrsCommanderson 23:02, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Prof. Tor Coolguy
Shouldn't Prof. Tor Coolguy be an inside joke? Sbdisciples 03:50, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Pretty sure...
...this page is redundant. Running gags is one thing, but how can you have inside jokes on a cartoon, unless TBCs or Missy or someone makes a joke hidden in the cartoon that only they would get...
For instance: Trogdor, fhqwhgads, and even the main character Homsar are no longer inside jokes, even though they started out that way.
None of those are inside jokes, they're running gags that became key features of the site. Do people get me here?--Nick 22:44, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Inside jokes are such because we don't quite know why they're funny. They're something that gets mentioned, but we're not sure why it has significance to the Chaps. Running gags are things that are funny because they appear so often. --DorianGray 06:53, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Lowercase i's Gag
- You know how the image with lowercase i's on the store's marquee? Speaking of that, are the Bros. Chaps ever going to add more of the lowercase I jokes in any related HR media? Because the last time I saw the joke, it was already used was since last year. If not, will they ever use any lowercase letter joke (excluding the letter "i".)? -Ümläut76 (The C Zone · Talk here!) 16:43, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Urban Legends?
Do any of you think that references to urban legends in the H*R universe is an inside joke or a running gag? If you search "urban legends" on this site, 12 results come up.--Particleman24 00:26, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Spoken Verbs
I've noticed this for a long time, but I scoured the Wiki and haven't found any pages on spoken verbs. You know, like in alternate universe how Strong Bad and Old Timey SB say "jump" when they jump, or in Twenty THANXty Six when Stinkoman begins "making small rocks float up off the GRRROOOOOUUUUUUUUND!" and another example in 8-Bit Is Enough when the Munchox yells "Roar! Growl!" and one more still in email thunder when Strong Bad says that he's "almost, sniff, not totally disgusted." Just a few things, but maybe that Stinkobuff might not be the best example. It's possible that it is, though. Should we go ahead and make it a page?--AeroSnake 18:33, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
- Something like Self-Narrated Actions? — Defender1031*Talk 18:36, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, that works just as well. I'll get to adding.--AeroSnake 21:46, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
