References to severed body parts, either belonging to the characters or to unknown owners, have appeared several times throughout the Homestar Runner universe. Appearances of Strong Sad's severed head have been especially common, enough so to be considered a running gag in and of itself.

- Main Page 7 — Strong Bad's head falls off and rolls away.
- Old-Timey Bubs — The character of Old-Timey Bubs is an amputee, sporting a peg leg.
- Email impression — The Cheat dresses up as Strong Sad's left leg.
- Email crying — Li'l Brudder, a dog with only one leg, is introduced by Strong Bad, along with Tendafoot, an elephant missing its front legs.
- Email virus — Bubs and Fightgar use Homestar Runner's leg as a shotgun.
- The Li'l Brudder Show — Li'l Brudder and Tendafoot are shown again, along with a parrot that seems to be missing its legs.
- Sketchbook — Matt Chapman drew sketches of Homestar Runner and Strong Bad's severed heads.
- Halloween Potion-ma-jig — Pom Pom pulls out a severed toe while dressed up as Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski.
- Email myths & legends — Coach Z claims to have found Biscuitdoughhandsman's severed hand in the locker room.
- Email disconnected — Strong Bad responds in graphic detail to an email asking what he would do if his head got disconnected from his body.
- Email cliffhangers — The Lappy 486's kidnappers leave a ransom note for Strong Bad along with its blood-spattered comma key, which Strong Bad calls "her little toe".
- Drive-Thru — The Drive-Thru Whale asks Strong Bad and the Europa-pean lobster to sever their legs; the Europa-pean Lobster complies.
- SBCG4AP Dev Blog — The entry "Large Decap Latte" shows animations of all the main characters' heads getting cut (and later blown) off.
- Hremail 2000 — Strong Bad wears Strong Sad's soolnds as "foot pelts".
- 79 Seconds Left — When Homestar mentions Tape-Leg, an image one of Strong Bad's legs, severed and wrapped in tape, appears.
- Where My Hat Is At? — Bubs shows Homestar Marzipan's ponytail, with bits of hair sticking out where it would be connected to her head.
- Doomy Tales of the Macabre — Bubs' head is severed by his own concession stand, then it rolls next to Onion Bubs.
- The House That Gave Sucky Tricks — Strong Sad's leg, Homestar's leg, and Strong Mad's arm are seen hanging from the ceiling in the "gross out room", and then seen sewn to Marzipan.
- Strong Sad's Severed Soolnds — Strong Bad draws Strong Sad's severed soolnd for "alliteration day".
- Email parenting (Easter egg) — Homestar's severed leg drops from above the counter of the concession stand and falls onto Bubs' head.
- 2022 Costume Pack Now Available — The Cheat's contribution to the ghost story adds several severed body parts to the scene, all a sickeningly blueish grey in color, as well as a pair of enucleated eyeballs.
- Fan 'Stumes 2022 — Strong Bad shows the "flop-footed" Homestar's head falling off.
