Ding! Homestar Ruiner is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

Balloon Manimals

Could it be a refererence to NBC's short-lived Manimal TV show? Bad Bad Guy 22:46, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Are you talking about shapeshifter? -- Lazylaces Talk 00:00, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
No, I'm talking about the part pf this game's preview where Homestar says balloon manimals will appear at his party. Bad Bad Guy 01:14, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Copy/Paste

Umm... this is exactly the description from the Teltale Games website. Shouldn't this be... original? It looks really bad when it's made with a couple right clicks.

-Yeah, it's me.

Well, they know better than we do. When the actual episode is put up, will probably put a more fitting explanation on the page. --DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 00:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Is it really word-for-word? Yeah, I agree that we should try to summarize the plot rather than repeat the same paragraph verbatim. Trey56 01:49, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I did my best to write a different summary... Trey56 02:19, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Places

Should there be a places line like other toon articles? Just wondering. (Obvious place is the track field.) ColdReactive

Let's wait until we know all the places in the game. Bad Bad Guy 01:27, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Which butt?

The butt link goes to a disambiguation page. Which article should this link to? --70.143.29.70 02:20, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure if it should link to anything in this case. Is linking to twees is good enough? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 02:29, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I'd think so. --70.143.29.70 02:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Change "announcement"?

For some reason, when i read this, I thought the game was announced early for some reason. Would we be able to have "gameplay trailer" for this instead? --70.143.29.70 02:46, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Hm, we certainly don't want to mislead people. Better now? Trey56 03:14, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
What about "preview"? --70.143.29.70 11:01, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Which PP?

PP could refer to either Pom Pom or Peacey P, couldn't it? DEI DAT VMdatvm center\super contra 07:51, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Or Pan Pan. Or Peter Parker, the Pied Piper, Power Points, PowerPoint, PayPal... (And more!) Pom Pom is the most likely, because he's a main character. Also, his character video uses vcr_pp as part of its URL (and Coach Z's uses vcr_cz). --DorianGray 07:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, but Coach Z and Peacey P are seen together more often than Coach Z and Pom Pom. There's more of an affiliation between the two. Dementedc 11:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
On the contrary, Coach Z and Peacey P have been seen together once. But since they're main characters, any toon that includes all main characters necessarily includes Coach Z and Pom Pom, frequently at the same time. --Jay (Talk) 17:01, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I see what you mean. I'm just saying that Coach Z would probably be more likely to hang out with Peacey P than with Pom Pom.Dementedc 19:26, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
You also have to consider which of the two characters would be more likely to compete in a Free Country USA sporting event: Pom Pom, or Peacey P. --Jay (Talk) 20:57, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Toad Weasel

What exactly does Homestar say before he kicks the phone? Even though it's not too much of sense make, I think he said "play of the low-lynched-toad weasel" --70.143.29.70 22:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm prooty sure that's what he said, now that I hear it again. --Das654 19:14, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

It's "plight of the low-lands toad weasel". Hooray for the in-game subtitles! --DorianGray 19:44, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Illegal op?

When I access the Telltale page linked at the bottom, I get an error along the lines of "The Shockwave plugin performed an illegal operation. You are strongly urged to restart Firefox." Anyone else? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 23:36, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

OMIGOSH THE MUNICIPALITY IS COMING! RUN, QERMAQ, RUN!!! Maybe update Flash? Check for a new version of Firefox? I dunno. I can view it just fine in Firefox. --Jay (Talk) 23:55, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Any specifics on the error? Or is it just that message? --70.143.29.70 00:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
With an illegal op? Unlikely. If you're lucky, you can find out what DLL the error happened in, but even then you'd have to dig hard for it. I'm with Jay... uninstall/reinstall Shockwave and Flash. --phlip TC 08:55, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, guys. Actually, a computer restart fixed it. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:09, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Transcript

Hey guys...should we really put the transcript out here? Couldn't we make a page that's just like "Homestar Ruiner Gameplay Video Transcript" or something less long. Or, when it comes out, are we just going to leave the transcript there? Won't we put something more related to the actual episode itself instead of the Gameplay trailer? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 03:03, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

I think it's okay for now. But as you point out, when the game is released, the gameplay trailer transcript will not be relevant in this format, either on this page or on its own page.
At some point, we need to figure out if/how we're going to transcribe all the dialogue from the game. But that wouldn't go on this page, after the episode comes out, this page will be more of an overview, like the Peasant's Quest and Thy Dungeonman III pages are. Trey56 03:29, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Since the game itself will have multiple branches, a transcript of any type won't make sense. I can see being done with this game (along with the others in the series), where certain set pieces are transcribed (for example, Homestar Ruiner is suppose to open with Strong Bad singing and going around the house) like Stinkoman 20X6. Beyond that. the best we could do would be a walkthrough or hints on triggering Easter eggs. However, since things like the trailer/preview are fixed, a transcript of those makes sense. wbwolf (t | ed) 04:47, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
By the way, if you want to contribute to the discussion over what to transcribe and how to do it, I raised this issue on this talk page. – The Chort 16:34, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
I think the transcript should be done as a spoiler, as in typed all in white, and when someone wants the surprise to be ruined, they highlight the letters so they can read it. I've seen that done before. -->senorsmallws7.png Parrothead1 senorsmallak8.png 11:39, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

I think we should move this page to Homestar Ruiner Trailers and use this article only to transcribe and explain parts of the actual SBCG4AP level. BBG 02:43, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

We should talk about that when the time comes. In the meantime, it shall rest in peace. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 05:14, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Related topic: As part of the announcement on the Telltale Blogs, it was mentioned that a second gameplay trailer was coming out in the near future, and part of it was featured in the "On The Spot" episode. (It focuses on Strong Bad talking to Marzipan at the party, and then shows some additional activities that Strong Bad can do.) I suspect, that since this is the first episode of a new series, there might be multiple transcripts for this episode. Any thoughts on how to incorporate those into this page specifically? wbwolf (t | ed) 03:13, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

The second gameplay trailer was already released...remember "Around the Field"? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 23:28, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Reopening topic- In the interim I've played two Sam & Max games (Abe Lincoln Must Die! and Ice Station Santa), and I've found the way that Telltale handles the Walkthrough and Did You Try? sections especially to be good models on how we want to model how we handle the game pages. Like Stinkoman 20X6, it might be necessary to subdivide that page, but Walkthrough for the main plot, and then hints for eggs or side question locations (such as manual pages, costumes, index cards, etc.) would be the way to go. wbwolf (t | ed) 22:30, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

(Try again) Looking over the new Homestar Ruiner page, it looks like they will do the same thing as they do with the Sam & Max games: providing a walkthrough and hints on things to try for Easter eggs or funny responses. Obviously, we should link to these official walkthroughs, rather than reinventing the wheel. So, what should this page be reserved for? My thought is to have it focus on transcripts (trailers and set pieces), as well as documenting Fun Facts. wbwolf (t | ed) 21:58, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

I think the best thing to do is to include one transcript for each place he visits. BBG 22:55, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

IF we transcribe every line, I agree with this. --Jay (Talk) 00:08, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Given the amount of dialogue in this game, both obvious and really, really obscure, that sounds like potentially risking death by transcription. Personally, a quick and brief summary of the events in the game (and not specifically how to finish it, like the walkthrough) would be more than sufficient. Kind of like what you'd get on Wikipedia, except seeing as we're NOT Wikipedia, we can go just a smidgen more in-depth with it. --Shadow Hog 04:26, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Transcript change?

Hey guys, it's 20X6MAN, I forgot to log in. Anyways, I watched the trailer, and you might need to change the transcript. If you watch it again, you'll see what I mean.

I only watched the first few seconds, but he's right. The trailer *was* changed pretty much exactly to what was added to the article. It wasn't actually random vandalism. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 03:18, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Huh, how odd. Also note that the scoreboard now reads "OFFICIAL RACE TIMES". The original version (or at least the fact that it changed) should be noted somewhere, of course. --DorianGray 03:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I just watched it, and nothing seems to have changed. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 03:25, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, sorry for thinking it was vandalism. Weird that they changed it. And I had liked that Strong Bad had referenced the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. Oh well. Homestar-Winner (talk) 03:49, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Uh...I'm not seein' anything. We're talking about the gameplay vid, right? DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 05:38, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes. This video right here. --DorianGray 05:41, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm seeing the "old" version of it. It doesn't do any of the things that the transcript says now. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 05:47, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, I cannot help you clear your browser cache. No, I'm not in India. --DorianGray 05:54, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
But before you do, you may want to save a copy of the old version in case these wiki guys intend to keep a mirror of it. — Defender1031*Talk 13:19, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I agree with the mirror thingy. And the new trailer just started working for me :) DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 20:29, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

New video

There's a new video on the TellTale games website for SBCG4AP. Should we make a new page for it or put everything on this page? -PeterImage:Petersig.png

Since it's the same game and the purpose of the page is to document the game itself, the second transcript should be put here. wbwolf (t | ed) 20:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hallelujah!!! I can Hardly BREATHE!!!

Yessss! Finally! Im so excited! It comes out Monday! Rats... I'll be gone for a while... so I'll get it after I get back from Wyoming. BUT IM HAVIN A PARTY ON MY TALK PAGE!!! senorsmallws7.png Parrothead1 senorsmallak8.png

Okay, chill. --Das654 19:18, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

No Eyes On Deck

I got a glitch after playing through the tutorial. Homestar's eyes are gone on the Main-Page-style title screen. I have a screenshot. His eyes only appear when he says "Wait, is it my turn?" on the settings button, when his eyelids are lowered. Is it just me? (PC Version) OptimisticFool 18:19, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I managed to get myself a similar glitch with Strong Bad's eyes disappearing after watching (or skipping through, as it was) the preview for Strong Badia The Free. I think they're just random texture glitches. - C.Olimar788 21:01, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

According to TTG, this is a problem with older versions of DirectX. Try updating to the latest version. wbwolf (t | ed) 21:22, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
The installer supposedly did that. OptimisticFool 22:21, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

That Papers Alive!?

The original paper shows up every now and then to give instructions in the game. It's definetely the original one. Did it come back to life? -TheDenzel (not signed in)

The game has been in progress for a while. Probably since before The Paper died. --Jay (Talk) (definitely signed in)
Not that I mean to purposefully contradict you, but The Paper occurred June 11, 2007. I'm sure the email was being created before that. It's not completely unlikely that this the game was at least planned at this time, but you'd think if they knew this would come out after 'ol Papes died that they'd make it the New Paper. —NFITC1talk 19:08, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay? But shouldn't this still be documented somewhere? --TheDenzel again (not signed in)
It's noted in Homestar Ruiner#Remarks. BBG 22:33, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Since it's unlikely that TBC were unable to change The Paper to New Paper due to tedious legal reasons (they had full control of the project), I can only offer the suggestion that due to popular demand by fans, or TBC just missed Ol' Papes, they decided to bring it back. – The Chort 21:32, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Is there anything in Homestar Ruiner that happened specifically AFTER the paper? if not, the episode may be set in a time a few months ago. Joanassie
Two things come to mind here - the first appearance of sloshy during the concert sbemail (though given that they formed 7 years prior in the timeline, whether Strong Bad had heard of them or not at this point is debatable), and the use of JELA-Ton™ at the track's pool, as seen in winter pool. That would be a little more obvious - Strong Bad claimed that he "loves" JELA-Ton upon picking it up, so that implied that he had indeed used it before. Rexy 20:17, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
And there's Gel-Arshie to back that point up. SuperfieldCreditUnion
There's an idea going around in my head that says that Strong Sad may have been a fan of sloshy for a while, and another idea (or fact) that says Jela-Ton isn't Red Flavour Translucent Dessert Related Substance. By name, anyways. User:Joanassie 22:43, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

HRFWiki Reference?

At one point in the game, Strong Bad says something along the lines of "Thank goodness for this conveniently placed privacy curtain." It sounds suspiciously like the conveniently placed trampoline running gag to me. - 66.30.141.108 21:24, 11 August 2008 (UTC) (X On Fire from the HRFWiki)

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of when I heard it... if nothing else can be found with similar wording I'd say there's a good chance its a reference. Which is rather awesome. - C.Olimar788 03:38, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I would think that "conveniently placed [item]" would be far too common a phrase to pin to anything in particular. — Defender1031*Talk 03:49, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
There's a discussion like this going up on the Fanstuff's Glossary talk. I'd give a link, but I can't remember the entire title. SuperfieldCreditUnion

Is there any hope for a Linux freak like me?

If you have WINE, you might have a chance of running the game.... wbwolf (t | ed) 21:33, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
i do have WINE. But i'm not sure it's worth paying for a game on the chance that it might work... sigh... i guess i'll just wait till i can get a wii. — Defender1031*Talk 21:34, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
You can always download the free demo and try that on WINE. Who knows! TTGJake 02:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Wen i get settled back in israel i'll try it... i'm flying in 13 hours. — Defender1031*Talk 09:01, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Is it red wine or white wine? TheThin 21:47, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
I would think that WINE wouldn't work. You'd HAVE to use Windows (since it uses DirectDraw and D3D as rendering which are tools of DirectX which WINE doesn't use because of legal reasons) or play it on a Wii. Linux would seem to be incompatible. —NFITC1talk 13:52, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
This comment is a little outdated. While I don't know if the game runs in Wine, I do know that Wine supports both its own version of DirectX (which uses OpenGL), or you can install the Microsoft dlls. I know, because I play Psychonauts on my Ubuntu box all the time. (The)trlkly 08:09, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
It does run in wine, but it needs a special configuration. A simpler option may be to use an open-source program called PlayOnLinux, which will completely automate the process. However, it doesn't work for the demo. (The)trlkly 08:33, 31 October 2008 (UTC); modified 09:52, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Wiki is thanked in the credits

Don't know if anyone saw it. I just beat the game. It thanks the hrwiki.

Can't say it's terribly unexpected - TBC say they like the Wiki and even look up info they forget on it - but cool nonetheless. --Jay (Talk) 22:04, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
technically, it thanks "the Homestar Wiki". Joanassie 22:54, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Forshadowing for next game?

hey guys, in extended play, the king of town is really angry at you because he was forced to get married to the mole queen. he threatens to tax strong bad disproportionately, and strong bad says "that sounds... ominous." could this be foreshadowing for the next game?

Strong Badia the Free. Although, if we haven't already, we could put it as a Fun Fact. SuperfieldCreditUnion

Walkthrough

Should we get started on a walkthrough? I already have the game and I can start a walkthrough page tomorrow if we need one. Foogs. 00:07, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

There is no need. Telltale website for the episode already has an excellent one up already. Why reinvent the wheel? wbwolf (t | ed) 00:32, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
However, said walkthrough does NOT cover anything that leads to the 100% completion ranking, such as high scores, trophy requirements, and where to find secret items. Perhaps we should rectify that on a "Secrets Guide" of sorts? -- Cyberlink420 04:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
It would be very naughty and lazy of us to copy Telltale's walkthrough word-by-word. We didn't steal the Stinkoman 20X6 and Peasant's Quest walkthroughs off Gamefaqs, did we? Let's just allow someone with plenty of time on their hands to create our own and allow others to edit it, as is usually done on this wiki. – The Chort 11:39, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Here Is a page for the walkthrough.-Philip8o

Clean Up Time!

Okay, the first episode's out and this article needs to be revolutionised. Here's all the stuff we need to do, or at least, consider:

  • List all the Easter Eggs and other secrets.
  • Record all the Fun Facts, including Trivia, Remarks, Goofs, Glitches, Inside References and Real-World References. If these lists get too long, we can create individual articles for each section, a la Stinkoman 20X6.
  • Write a walkthrough. One section can tell you how to blast through the game, other sections can detail how to get 100% ranking.
  • Discuss what to do with the transcripts of the two promotional trailers. I propose creating a new article and moving all relevant information there. Unless we...
  • Consider whether to transcribe the ENTIRE game?

All these issues are discussed here, there and also here. Oh, and I won't be able to do any of this until I get my own laptop or we connect the Wii via our broadband connection. And until I'm allowed to buy/download stuff off the Internet. I just wanted to organise all our ideas for you. :) – The Chort 11:58, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

At the very least, if it hasn't been done already, we should list the cast members who appear in this episode and update their respective filmographies accordingly. Also, if we decide to do a full walkthrough, I'd be willing to do some work on the 100% completion guide. -- Cyberlink420 15:31, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I agree with The Chort, a Walkthrough we should at seriously consider, and I am willing to help with a full transctipt. ThePizz Pick 15:56, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Easter Eggs

There's got to be some easter eggs hidden somewhere in this game. Like a secret homsar or something. TheThin 14:47, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

I've found a secret shirt that you can't put in your wardrobe by going in the photo booth, jumping off at the right 3 times till you land underneath the floor, and going as far back as you can below the entrance. (crappy description, I know.) But other than that, I don't know of any easter eggs. ThePizz Pick 18:22, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh, there are plenty of Easter eggs. All of the clothing items, TGS extras, Snake Boxer manual pages, the trophies, and really, any number of things that you can do that don't advance the plot. However, I don't think Homsar appears in person in this one (you can prank call him... sorta... but that's it.) --Jay (Talk) 18:30, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I guess those are technically Easter eggs, but I think he meant besides anything needed to get 100%. ThePizz Pick 19:10, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Do mentions belong in other relavent articles?

So, is it our intent to put all references and fun facts from the game on this page exclusively, or should we mention them in the relevant articles also? As an example, one of Homestar's random ramblings is an instance of the oft-mentioned letter G. Should it be noted on that page as well as here?  Green Helmet 15:43, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, isn't that what we already do for normal toons? I don't see why that should be changed... -- Cyberlink420 19:37, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Sounds reasonable. I just wasn't sure — since it's not a normal toon.  Green Helmet 20:28, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Responses

If we do Responses pages, I recommend having a main responses page and breaking the actual (non-generic) responses into the following:

And either we can have Homestar Ruiner Responses (The Field) or six separate ones for the different places within The Field... not that the distinction between borders is necessarily obvious (and most places within The Field don't have much - take The Stick, for instance. Only a few objects there at all.)

If we do this, it'll be a massive undertaking; even though the game is fairly short for a game, it's still longer than any H*R cartoon ever and has lots of hidden dialogue.

Anyone else have anything to add? Since discussion in the past has been scattered, let's try to keep discussion on Responses in one place (here) until we decide whether or not we'll even do them in the first place. --Jay (Talk) 20:38, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

That sounds good. It will be a daunting feat, especially since we have to do it 5 times, but I'm up for it. ThePizz Pick 20:43, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
We went ahead and did every Peasant's Quest response. How hard can Homestar Ruiner be? SuperfieldCreditUnion
BTW, though I'm not expecting it to be an easy task, I am for a series of Responses pages assuming that there's no legal problem (my understanding is that there is not, but of course we must honor a Cease and Desist request should TBC issue one out.) --Jay (Talk) 22:55, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

I think we only need 1 article (this one) for responses relevant to the plot and 1 article for all the extra stuff such as digging, commenting, insulting, etc. BBG 02:18, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

I think one page is enough too — although I think it should be responses, and not this article — organized into sections as proposed above. At least to start... even having played the game through, it's hard for me to visualize how much space they'll take. We can always split the sections off into pages if it turns out they are too much.
There is also the issue of dividing responses into game phases, in some cases the responses change after certain milestones are reached, but in many cases they do not. It will probably work to note these cases in as sub-sub-section's.  Green Helmet 14:13, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
There are way more responses in this game than, say, Thy Dungeonman or Peasant's Quest. Those Responses pages are already extremely long pages. There are some generic responses (generally, using items on Strong Bad, or Strong Bad refusing to use items on certain objects) but most of them are NOT generic. I think the split will be necessary to keep things tidy. --Jay (Talk) 16:07, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
That's true, and as an added bonus, seperation will ease multiple editors working on the project. I think that The Field should be a single page, because as stated above so many of the areas only contain a single object to interact with.
I haven't seen anyone raise any objection to this project (barring of course a request from either TBC or Telltale) — would it be too soon to move forward? I propose as an initial step, (if it's not jumping the gun to do so today), article stubs with the appropriate headings be created and editors can use {{inprogress}} to "sign-up" for a specifc area to avoid duplicated effort. I'd be interested in digging into a section starting a few hours from now — but if we should wait another day or so for comments that's fine too.  Green Helmet
Actually, I'll start a stub for the generic responses page now. I won't add any responses just yet (nowhere near my Wii right now). Then everyone else can have at it. --Jay (Talk) 18:52, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Cool, I hope everything hasn't been finished by the time I get home.  Green "should get back to work now" Helmet 19:12, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Number of Blocks

Forgive me if this is already posted elsewhere, but how many blocks does Homestar Ruiner use on the Wii (for both the actual game and any saves, etc)? — Kilroy / talk 22:43, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

The game itself uses, If I remember correctly, 319 blocks, but I don't know saves offhand.ThePizz Pick 22:48, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Freezing

Is it me, or does the game freeze at the beginning of the end of the game? --Mini-Trogdor 00:25, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

It always freezes for me when Strong Bad is throwing the turtle. How 'bout you? Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
For me it froze while talking to Coach Z in extended play. Apparently that scene doesn't work in HD 16X9. BBG 02:47, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Trophy Locations

For when someone makes a page listing the locations of hidden items, these are how to get the trophies, as posted on GameFAQs...

Trophy #1 - Exploration Trophy Throw a lightswitch rave twice - 12% Open the fridge once - 12% Look at the Videlectrix poster twice - 12% Look at Strong Mad's lunchbox once - 12% Look at The Stick twice - 12% Use the microphone twice after the race - 12% Look at one of the piles of whatsit in the castle - 12% Talk to the KoT once while he's in the hole -12% Get all 8 of those - 4%

Trophy #2 - Hedge Clipping Trophy Trim a hedge - 25% each Hedge locations: The Track, near The Stick, Marzipan's house, and the KoT's castle.

Thanks! But is there anyway to get the last one if the KOT's hole is already covered? Acam30 04:48, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, you get more candy from Bubs and put it on top of the hedge trimmings to make them, and the candy, fall into the hole. 76.122.192.132 05:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

HOMSETAR

Goofs * At the non-garden party, the rollover for Marzipan and Homestar is spelled "MARZIPAN & HOMSETAR".

Um, I think that was intentional; remember? Marzipan kept forgetting Homestar's name, even called him "Homsar."

It would be intentional if Marzipan had said "HOMSETAR", but it's on the rollover tooltip, and is thus much more likely to be a spelling mistake than intentional. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 13:24, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Is this a goof?

When Strong Bad first talks to Marzipan in her garden, her mouth is backwards. I'm not sure it's a goof, because I think it happened in a cartoon before.

What do you mean by "backwards"? --Jay (Talk) 16:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
I saw this as strange, too. I think if TBC were animating this, there are many instances where her mouth would be facing the other direction, but it's TTG doing it. I think it might be fair to call it a goof by TTG, for not being true to TBC's style. (To better explain what is meant by "backwards", I'll upload a screenshot later.) OptimisticFool 00:01, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Oh no, we've been found out...

If Strong Bad is seen by the Poopsmith while sneaking through the castle, he'll pull up a sign with exclamation marks on it. Could this be a possible reference to Metal Gear Solid? ~ SonicKB

I doubt it, in the Metal Gear games, it's Snake who has the exclamation point on his head, not the person who saw him. Plus, the Poopsmith also uses a sign that says "Not you again!" CloneWarrior 14:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Have you played a Metal Gear game recently? It's the enemy who has the "!" appear above their heads. Although in this case, I doubt it's a reference. -- Cyberlink420 15:29, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Number of pages

Basically, we need to figure out how many pages we need to make for this game. I'm thinking:

A walkthrough page
A page for all the collectibles (Manual Pages, TGS Ideas, Clothing and Trophies)
Seperate transcript articles for the House of Strong, the Track, Marzipan's House, the KoT's Castle, and the Field (all six parts in one article)

This makes 10 articles including the main page, the Snake Boxer 5 page and the TGS page. CloneWarrior 14:59, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually, we could just link Telltale's Walkthrough and Extended play Page from this page. Less work for us. ^_^

TellTale's extended play section doesn't have where to get all of the collectibles like the TGS cards, Snake Boxer pages, and Coach Z trophies though. Acam30 18:09, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
[Edit conflict] And we could link to GameFAQs instead of having Peasant's Quest and Thy Dungeonman walkthroughs. I think it's a bad idea though. --Jay (Talk) 18:09, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
I wouldn't mind seeing the transcripts for the game preview videos moved off this page.  Green Helmet 21:22, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Moving the preview transcripts seems like a good first step to bring this article into alignment with Peasant's Quest game/trailer. My feeling that At the track is "the" trailer, and Around the field was made to, um, stall for more time. I guess we'll know if there're two trailers for SBTF. If that's the case, I think they'll need to be treated differently; essentially Around the field would be non-episode-specific, like the three-second "Actual Gameplay Footage" bit. JamesLucas (" " or +) 11:47, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Huzzah!!

When you beat the game, in the "special thanks" section of the credits it has hrwiki! There's a page about all the times TBC mentions us somewhere... HaldoHelscome!

Yes, that's already been brought up previously, just look over the other topics. CloneWarrior 15:40, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Swedish Chef reference?

During the party, if you complement Coach Z, Strong Bad says some Swedish, finishing with "Bork, Brok, Bork". Is that a reference to the Muppets' Swedish Chef? - OkayGraphics 17:59, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Can someone finish the Summary?

I did have of the Plot Summary for this episode, can someone finish please? I don't have enough time to do so.

I'm not sure we need a plot summary that in-depth, especially not if we have a separate walkthrough. --Jay (Talk) 18:07, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Is anyone else seeing this bug?

I don't know if it's a bug or not, but when I'm trying to do multiple file saves with my sister, whatever takes the top slot is overwritten when it should overwriting the actual respective slot. Has anyone experienced this, too?

  • Oops. Sorry, forgot a signature. --70.253.170.63 23:04, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
If I'm understanding you correctly, that's not a bug at all. The "top slot" is the autosave feature. When saving normally, you need to select one of the other three slots. --Jay (Talk) 23:05, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Oh, I get now. I guess I just never bothered to read text. I see where I go from here. Good thing I'm not too far in the game, or else I'd have to spend more than 20 minutes to get back to where I was. Thanks. Ha! --70.253.170.63 23:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Gameplay Transcripts

I mentioned this up on the page in a vaguely related thread, but thought I should make a separate topic for it: The transcripts for the gameplay videos seem out of place on this page to me now that the game has been released and the article is filling up with info about the actual game. Is there a more appropriate place for them that already exists? If not, should we create a new article for them? I think they would fall under "Promotional media" somewhere...  Green Helmet 14:16, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

I think we should kill them. Then mention anything in them that may have been different from actual gameplay somewhere. If anything. OptimisticFool 14:17, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Move to a separate page. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 14:21, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I know for a fact that during the game, when Strong Bad dond his Homestar disguise, he exclaims "Toons! Games!" etc.., but I don't remeber when and where in the game he does so. Does anyone remember? - OkayGraphics 21:35, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Specifically when and where is up to the player — he says it the first time he puts it on.  Green Helmet 21:44, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Mole people

Where and when are there any Mole people?

When you (spoiler) dig the holes in Marzipan's front yard, and later throw the Total Load into it. Also, after you trap the KOT in one of the holes and he gets out, he tells Strong Bad it's his fault that he's "Trapped in a loveless marriage with a mole queen." Acam30 14:38, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
And, if you talk to KoT twice while he's still in the hole, you'll hear him talking to said mole-queen. -- Cyberlink420 15:32, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

List of Ranks?

Should we keep a list of the ranks you can get in the game? Here are the ones I know:

Academic Biathlete: 1st
Polar Bear Vaulter: Somewhere near the beginning
Chainsaw Bocce Bowler: 2nd to last
Trogdor Polo Chucker: Last
Whatever2965 13:02, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Blue Wall Bug: Pick a Pic

I got a couple of Snappy shots of the blue wall bug. Should we keep the image as it is now, or replace it with one of these? (I'd get higher quality screenshots, but I don't have a capture card, and the bug is only showing up on the Wii version for me). --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 01:25, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

20% ... Glitch?

Try and follow this, if possible (I don't think I'm going to do very well at explaining it) ... First off, we know that part of getting the Nuisance Trophy is: "Talk to Homestar in the locker room 3 times about the race." But(!), if you first use the onion on Homestar and THEN talk to him about the race three times and THEN (without exiting the conversation) talk to him about showering, you won't get that 20%. Another way to put it: If you use the onion on Homestar and THEN talk to him three times about the race, you MUST exit and restart the conversation BEFORE talking to him about showering, or you will not get the 20%. Is that making any sense? And if so, would anyone care to try and document this somehow? And if so, what kind of powers do you have? =] OptimisticFool 10:08, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

It seems notable to me, but difficult to express it concisely. How about this?  Green Helmet 15:00, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
  • The player is not given trophy credit for annoying Homestar in the locker room if he enters the shower immediately after discussing the race.
Without having seen it in context, I'm not entirely sure this is a glitch. He annoys Homestar by getting up in Homestar's face. Would YOU want to do that to someone who smelled like onions? Mind, if he has the exact same dialogue, then yes, it's a glitch. --Jay (Talk) 16:19, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay, so I went and tested it. The dialogue was the same... and so was the 20% toward the nuisance trophy. No glitch happenin'. --Jay (Talk) 16:26, 18 August 2008 (UTC) Oh, wait, I missed the part where you have to talk about showering before you cancel the dialogue. Never mind. Still, you can also disregard the previous because the dialogue was the same. --Jay (Talk) 16:27, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
I am guessing that it is more of a Goof than a Glitch (although I honestly don't fully understand the distinction) — I'm sure there is an underlying technical reason it happens (e.g. the Homestar you interacted with is no longer there at the time the credit should be awarded), but it's a mistake that they didn't handle that situation, unlike something that I would think of as a "glitch".  Green Helmet 16:40, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
A Goof is a plot error or inconsistency. A Glitch is a programming error. This is closer to Glitch territory if you ask me. For Goof examples, check the current ones on this page: Spelling errors have nothing to do with programming, and the changing graphics for the shirt is the fault of whoever made the graphics (UNLESS there are actually supposed to be TWO hidden shirts, but we don't and can't know that right now.) --Jay (Talk) 16:48, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Dial B for Bubs

Strong Bad says "Dial B for Bubs" when about to call Bubs. Is this a reference to Dial M for Murder, or do people say things like that a lot? Homestar-Winner (talk) 02:10, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

People say that a lot. I see "Dial (Letter) for (Something that starts with that letter)" a ton in various and assorted junk. SuperfieldCreditUnion
Agreed. Personally, I thought of Dial H for Hero. --DorianGray 04:31, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

I would ask to revisit this point, as the Dial [X] for [Word that stars with X] construction definitively comes from the Hitchcock flick. Parallel references to it are rather commonly made, yes, but I think we should note the original, which is Dial M for Murder. -132.183.151.160 21:22, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Transcripts for Cut Scenes

Are we going to make a transcript for the non-gameplay scenes, like Strong Bad singing at the beginning and emailing, Homestar coming out of the locker room naked, and Strong Bad finding Homestar in various locations in his house? JCM 18:42, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, all of those scenes are described in their respective locations on Homestar Ruiner Responses. --DorianGray 20:09, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Photo booth (Snap Shak) - reference to the TARDIS?

Hi Homestar wiki!! :) I'm terribly sorry if I'm writing this in the wrong place; I have no experience with editing a wiki article. Anyhow, I wanted to ask - did anyone else think that that the photo booth, Snap Shak, was a reference to the TARDIS from the British sci-fi show Doctor Who? Specifically what Strong Bad says as he steps inside for the first time - that it's bigger in the inside that it is on the outside, which is usually what people say when they enter the TARDIS for the first time :) I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before, I looked but didn't find any topics on it. Just thought I'd suggest it! — 74.212.24.169 (Talk | contribs) 21:18, 26 August 2008 (left unsigned)

Hi, Welcome to the wiki! No need to be bashful, this is the perfect place! I will mention that, on talk pages (not when editing an article), you should type ~~~~ at the end, which will insert a signature for you. Even though you're an anonymous user, it still makes the talk pages much more readable and easier to follow any discussion that happens under a topic.
Re: TARDIS. I hadn't thought of that, but I definitely see the connection now — but it doesn't seem like that strong a connection. Unless what Strong Bad says is an exact quote or something obviously pointing at the TARDIS... It seems to me the concept is not all that uncommon otherwise, like a few of the cars or tents in Harry Potter, or even more poignantly the phenomena of the exterior graphics for a building in an adventure game being way not in proportion to the amount of space when you enter it... which happens in many, many games.  Green Helmet 02:52, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
This wouldn't even be the first time a similar phenomenon appeared in the H*R universe. --DorianGray 03:57, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the warm welcome and the tip about signing my posts, GreenHelmet :) And thank you to DorianGray for pointing out that HomestarRunner has made this joke before. If it helps at all, the reasons I thought the Snap Shak was a specific reference was first of all, it's shape (it's no police box, but it is a tall, commonly seen structure that looks like it could only hold one or two people), obviously the quote about it being bigger on the inside than the outside, the comment Strong Bad makes about "...it's like it distorts time and space," reminded me of what TARDIS stands for (Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space), and then, he immediately "sees" space right there, and of course, the huge wardrobe, since the TARDIS has one as well :) Unfortunately it doesn't travel through time, or it would be a perfect fit! It is a common joke, now that I think about it...I suppose I'm just such a big Doctor Who fan, I automatically associated it with the TARDIS! Haha. Well anyway, thank you for considering my suggestion :) --199.224.122.59 00:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Music References

I don't know if things were supposed to run differently in the PAL Wii release, but there's been some form of misunderstanding regarding a couple of the music references in the Inside References section.

First of all, the two tracks at the track sound different than the referenced Bubs' Concession Stand track. I swear that the first track (heard when doing whatever you want around the track) was an original track for the game itself, while the other (during the Free Country USA Triannual Race to the End of the Race *fanfare*) seems to be in a sbemail that has escaped the top of my head.

Secondly, the music I heard when outside the King of Town's cascle was not the theme for his Very Own (Quite) Popular Cartoon Show, but the music heard during Strong Bad, Homestar and Coach Z's flashbacks for The DNA Evidence.

Is this implying different changes between different consoles'/regions' releases? Or was this false information on the front page to begin with? Rexy 18:44, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

You're right in that the music played outside the KoT's castle is not the KoTQPCS theme, and I'm playing the American Wii version. I also agree that the main Track theme is original. I don't recall what plays during the race. --Jay (Talk) 07:30, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's not the Of Town's Very Own Quite Popular Cartoon Show. Also, sbemail action figure. Both the email song and the music that plays when you view the action figures.
Joanassie 03:54, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

The track music is not original to the game. It is from Toikey Day, the "Falling Asleep On The Couch Watching Football Bowl" theme.

Can we maybe get some organization here? Maybe lump all the music references under their own sub-heading or something?

WavyMic

I find it odd that Strong Bad claims that he "can't use the WavyMic, its door's stuck shut with nacho entrails and mangled action figures", and yet Homestar has no trouble opening and closing it. And the inside is completely clean, to boot. Should this go under goofs? --Aranai 18:50, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

It's already on the page under Remarks. --Jay (Talk) 18:59, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

WAD Files

I'm changing the real world reference about the wad files. Although this is a format that Wii Channels are packaged as, the Wii does not run the channels off of those files. Plus, many of the games that Strong Bad runs off of his files are .wad, implying that it's the .wad file that DOOM uses. Krazykevin2000 02:39, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, so I didn't see this message before I went and changed it back. I don't really understand what you are trying to say above, perhaps you can explain it differently? In any case, I know that the WADs from Doom have been referred to in the h*r universe before, but the one's used on the Wii seem more directly notable and relevant here. Perhaps mentioning the Doom wads makes sense here, but not in lieu of the mentioning the Wii ones.  Green Helmet 03:43, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Wii WAD files are only used to install them using unlicensed software, in other terms, the WAD file is not used by Nintendo, but used to illegally use VC games and WiiWare. It's way more unlikely that they are referencing this file, instead of the DOOM WAD file they've used a couple times before (even in an SBCG4AP ad). So I think it should be changed back. Krazykevin2000 11:01, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Survey Says:

The following fact is in Real World References:

  • Strong Bad's Deleted line, "Survey Says...DELETED!", is a reference to the popular game show Family Feud.

There is a morning radio show popular in the South, The John Boy & Billy Big Show, that has a game called John Boy Jeopardy. In it, they ask a question, and people call in to answer. Right before they are informed whether they are right or wrong, they hear the words "Survey Says:". I just learned that this is also a reference to Family Feud, but TBC are likely very familiar with this show, and this is the first thing i thought of when i saw this. Does it merit a remark on this page? The Knights Who Say Ni 03:49, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

I wasn't suggesting that we get rid of the family feud comment, i was just suggesting add john boy and billy to it. perhaps that was unclear. It could also be a reference to..." so you're saying we aren't going to do that here? The Knights Who Say Ni 20:06, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I don't think it's necessary. -128.103.10.135 20:31, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I agree with DeFender and Anonny. We don't need it, and it's just begging for trouble when everyone adds his or her own example to the list. The phrase almost certainly comes from Family Feud, Family Feud is the popular one, and we don't need to list anything else. --Jay (Talk) 21:56, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
And for the record, I used to live in two of the states within the broadcast region, I have a father who sometimes listens to radio shows, and this is the first I've ever heard of John Boy and Billy. So, no, there's no reason to assume that TBC are "likely very familiar with this show". Everyone's heard of Family Feud. --Jay (Talk) 21:58, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Jay, (1) are you talking about that "don't add real-world references to the "la la, na na, and doot do" in the bottom 10 page, for example? yeah i can understand your concern, but (2) the reason i brought this up is b/c it is more popular in the deep south, where tbc are from. i didn't know that they had expanded into the midwest yet, so if those are the states you've lived in, i can understand that you wouldn't have heard of them. (yeah i've given up on this already.) The Knights Who Say Ni 03:16, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
It's not quite the same as the "la la, na na, doot doo" thing; that's a TTATOT (This That and the Other Thing); a reference to an idea so general that it may as well not be a reference at all. This is a reference, but the original reference is to Family Feud, so that's what we note. One more thing, BTW, Strong Bad used the "Survey says" line in invisibility; we note Family Feud (and nothing else) there too. Notably, that appearance had him watching TV (not listening to radio), and it had the Family Feud buzzer play. --Jay (Talk) 08:25, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Glitchtastic?

On my Wii game, the Poopsmith suddenly won't cross the room anymore. After finishing his shoveling, he just stands there, even though Strong Bad tells me to look out. That means that to trigger Strong Mad's entrance, I have to cross the room to bother the Poopsmith directly, which doesn't give me enough time to get back to the vent. Has this happened to anyone else? --206.212.232.235 00:28, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Possible inside reference?

In flashback, Strong Bad mentions how if Homestar lived here, he'd have more "crushed spirits" and "non-broken bones." This seems awfully similar to the second half of this episode.

Unlikely. — Defender1031*Talk 15:44, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Graphics Tightener

In the Snake Boxer 5 manual, one of the things listed in the credits is "Graphics Tightener". This is most likely a reference to an old Westwood College commercial where one of the supposed game testers says "We just finished level 3, and you need to tighten up the graphics a little bit." Foxx 04:56, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Can you provide a link to a video of that commercial? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 11:55, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
It was a bit hard to find one of decent quality, but I found it: http://www.strimoo.com/video/16281839/Be-a-Game-Designer-Commercial-par-Corey-MySpaceVideos.html Foxx 17:25, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Freezing on Wii U

I am trying to play this game on the Wii U, and when I get to the scene where the KoT awards "Homestar" the trophy, the game freezes in the middle of the KoT's line (he does complete the line, but Strong Bad misses his response, and everyone stops moving in the middle of the line.) Happened to me twice in a row. Does anyone else have the Wii version of this game loaded to the Wii U to check it out? --Jay (Talk) 05:25, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

And now it's essentially unbeatable. I tried skipping the line, which only had it crash sooner. --Jay (Talk) 05:29, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Do you still get this to happen after deleting and redownloading the game? I just recently moved my Wii stuff to Wii U and had to redownload the game, so I can check on this, but it could take awhile. Also someone probably should check the other four episodes to see if they act up on Wii U. — Ngamer01 16:29, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Other four episodes already checked without a hitch. No, I didn't try deleting and redownloading. (Technically, two of the other episodes were deleted and re-downloaded - they were saved to my SD card, and those don't transfer. Homestar Ruiner was transferred.) I suppose I could try deleting-and-redownloading later. --Jay (Talk) 05:54, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Sorry for getting back to this late, but I'm now past the half-way point in replaying the game (where you start putting Homestar's life back together). Hopefully soon I'll be able to check on the trophy presentation part needed to get Homestar off the Teen Girl Squad drawing table. Oh I almost forgot. I already have a save file in Extended Play and it still seems to be working, but I'll still try to see if I can get this game crashing bug to trigger on my copy of the game in Wii Mode on Wii U. — Ngamer01 17:30, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
And I absolutely confirm Jay's freezing on being awarded the trophy on my redownloaded Homestar Ruiner in Wii U's Wii Mode. I also uncovered a different freeze glitch after you sabotaged the track. When I went to move the jump obstacles (I moved the hurdle again), the game froze. Videos of the freezes can be recorded and provided on request. I also sent an e-mail to Telltale about these freezes. — Ngamer01 01:19, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
I got a reply from Telltale's Support —
This game was developed many years ago for the Wii and we do not offer support for the game experiencing issues on a different system to the one it was intended for. With technology such as backwards compatibility, issues like this can arise frequently for third party games. If you have access to a Wii, the game should work without experiencing these issues
So no mention if they'll do anything which means we either need to play/rebuy it on the original Wii, get the PC version, or the DVD compilation of SBCG4AP. Wii U owners who don't know of other versions or never had a Wii who want Homestar Ruiner risk being jobbed out of 1,000 Wii Points in Wii Mode for an unplayable version now. — Ngamer01 23:55, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Maybe you can file a bug report with Nintendo? Since it's their emulator product that has issues (and it works on the original Wii) it may be an issue they may be able to fix and push an update for that. --Stux 00:05, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
What about the fact that this problem may be unique to the NTSC version? As someone who has the PAL version, I might be able to check if it's in the PAL version as well (once I can get through the difficult transferring process...). RickTommy (edits) 00:11, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
I've now sent an e-mail to Nintendo's Consumer Service Department regarding this. I'll report back if I hear anything, Stux. RickTommy, that will be very helpful if you could check the PAL version of Homestar Ruiner in Wii U's Wii Mode. — Ngamer01 00:20, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
Regarding Telltale's message: That's a bit of a disappointment - transferring a game from Wii to Wii U necessarily deletes it from your Wii permanently (unless you pay for it a second time), and you either transfer everything or nothing when you transfer - there's no in between. RickTommy, if you have a PAL Wii U, go ahead and check. --Jay (Talk) 08:56, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
Another data point: the game works for me on the WiiU, just played through from beginning to end (just the main story, not 100%ed). The trophy scene worked fine for me. For more stats: Australian-region PAL-format version of the WiiU, redownloaded copy of the game (had it stored on SD card on the Wii, so didn't transfer), connected to TV via HDMI (so really, PAL shouldn't matter). --phlip TC 12:36, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
For context: American Wii U, glitch repeated both transferred AND redownloaded, connected via HDMI... so the fact that you have a PAL Wii U is really the only difference given the information provided. --Jay (Talk) 21:13, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

I have the response from NoA's Consumer Service Department —

I'm glad you've taken the time to alert us to the issue you're having with Strong Bad: Episode 1:Homestar Ruiner. I would first like to thank you for your patience while we researched the problem and I want you to know that your concerns about the freezing issue have been forwarded to the appropriate departments.

If you'd like to resolve the problem you noted with Strong Bad: Episode 1:Homestar Ruiner, I would first suggest that you change your Wii U console's "TV" settings to display in standard format, rather than widescreen; this can be done in your Wii U "System Settings" -not in Wii Mode

So basically if you want to play Homestar Ruiner, turn on the 4:3 display in Wii U's settings first before switching to Wii Mode to play Homestar Ruiner. I can't believe I forgot about the noted widescreen freezes that force you play the game in 4:3 mode. I keep my Wii U in 16:9 mode since 4:3 mode on Wii U looks terrible on a SD CRT TV. — Ngamer01 20:43, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Oh yeah, now that you mention it, I do recall mention of Homestar Ruiner having issues with standard definition... --Jay (Talk) 06:10, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
