One time, I was playing this until I reached Stinkoman 20X6. I saved the game, but it froze on me and created an infinite note. The note never changed, causing me to have to do a hard reset. Can you add this under Glitches for the Wii version? 166.216.165.53 10:35, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

:What's an "infinite note"? 12:50, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

::DeFender: I think Anonny is trying to say that the audio stopped updating. Often in newer videogames, the music and sound effects are mixed and sent to a buffer (a very small chunk of audio) many times per second. The buffer is designed so that while its contents are being played, it is also being updated at the same time. The smaller the buffer is, the less delay you will notice between the action on the screen and what you hear. (Too small and the audio will begin to sound glitchy.) When the game itself freezes, the buffer is no longer updated — but the soundcard usually continues to run, so it just loops the contents of the buffer endlessly. If only one musical note is playing, it will appear to become "infinite".
 +
::Anonny: That's not worth listing under Glitches because the WiiWare version (of all five episodes) is known to have this problem — randomly. It can happen anywhere and at any time, especially in widescreen mode. There are specific places where it consistently happens, but most of those have already been found. -- 16:48, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

:::Being a software developer myself, I'm fully aware of how sound buffers work. I just didn't know what "infinite note" meant without context (I was thinking of the other kind of note). That was a great explanation though. 18:37, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

[edit] Title?

Um... how do we know that this is the game? --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 02:31, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

It was on WiiWorld for a while (they correctly predicted the name of episode 4). There's some evidence of this on Telltale's forum, too. However, Telltale's staff demanded that WiiWorld take the info down until they're ready to show it (presumably, they'll be ready to show it on Monday.) AFAIK, no requests have been made to remove the info from the Wiki, but we should comply if they do ask us. --Jay (Talk) 02:34, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Voice for Trogdor?

WHOA! Who thought that Trogdor would be in Free Country USA?! Since we already know what Stinkoman's voice sounds like, how do you think Trogdor would sound?

[edit] A Screenshot

I found a screenshot on the official site that I cropped into an image of 3D Stinkoman that I uploaded a few minutes ago. The funny and slightly disturbing thing is, the screenshot (not my cropped version) revealed that Stinkoman is standing on a platform from Stinkoman 20X6. I know that the description says that video games are leaking into Free Country, so, should we put down Planet K as a place? Strongkinghomsarsmith 21:46, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes. Yes, we should! And Strong Badia, House Of The Brothers Strong, The Field, The Basement, and everything in the new screenshots.

Have you guys seen that awesome, rather diginal screenshot on TellTale Games? You know, the one with Strong Bad in that wierd, yet cool, place with all the Videlectrix games. That is cool. -Absorr|Homestar Runner Wiki is a must 01:38, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Braid

An email refers to a recent game where you can't die, you just get stuck. Sounds like a reference to Braid, if you ask me. Anybody else have RECENT game possibilities?

The first game that sprung to my mind was an obscure one named Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. Maybe you've heard of it. It's pretty recent too. --Belthazar 10:07, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Exactly. It's all part of the hypocrisy, like at the beginning of the game when Strong Bad tells The Cheat that "licensed games are never good." He's in a licensed game, and kicked off the plot of the third episode of said licensed game by trying to fix a licensed game. --Jay (Talk) 11:42, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Secret Shirt

Is the secret shirt supposed to make SB's torso invisible or is that a glitch?

It's deliberate. =) --Belthazar 10:56, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
How do you get the secret shirt? I tried walking off the edge three times, then six times, and it just reset me every thrid time. --The Swedish Ace 02:04, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Try again when not wearing any costume items. --Jay (Talk) 02:23, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Somebody put it under glitches, should it be deleted, or just moved to another part of the article? The Swedish Ace 15:17, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Definatly not a glitch, since there's been secret shirts there before. Move it. That Game Dude 386 18:23, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Wierd. When the rest of costume comes off before leaving, inviso-shirt stays on until he returns to the field. --PartyBrd20X6 21:11, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wrecking Crew?

The use of Mista Fixit as a Videlectrix game somehow made me think that there could have been similar stylistic similarities with the Mario spin-off Wrecking Crew (one of those few videogames that I couldn't really stand much). Although, when Mista Fixit wants to build stuff, WC is more about destroying stuff with the same tools.

It's a long shot to think of a reference like this, but it's still something at any rate. I'll still be fine if it doesn't get accepted as one. >.> Rexy-mberween (save the rabbits!) 15:55, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Reminds me more of Bob the Builder.
I don't know about Bob the Builder. If Mista Fixit was surrounded by anthropomorphic construction vehicles, had a much cornier catchphrase than "Let's build something" and/or was chased around by a live scarecrow, then it might be more familiar. Rexy-mberween (save the rabbits!) 14:39, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Imflammable as a goof?

Right now, Gel-arshie mentioning he's inflammable is listed as a goof. It's difficult to say it's an actual goof on part of the creators, due to the fact it's not rare for a character to say something incorrect that the Brothers Chap know isn't true. Personally, I think this is one such case, but clearly someone disagrees. So, thoughts?

Aye, I was gonna comment on that myself. Unfortunately, without word from them, I don't think it's possible to tell whether it's a mistake by TBC or simply a mistake by Gel-Arshie. --Belthazar 22:02, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
I haven't played the game yet but it doesn't sound like something they'd mess up. It seems intentional to me (as in ironic humor). -132.183.138.37 22:09, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Inflammable is not a goof. Gel-arshie even comments on it.--Robotawesomeness 17:31, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
What do you mean he "comments" on it? He just uses the word incorrectly. No one comments on the incorrect usage. I say leave it in, but then, this is an eight-month-old conversation that apparently got dropped except for that last response. --Jay (Talk) 19:03, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Actually, not only is the conversation eight months old, but it's not even applicable now. If anything, we should discuss putting it back on the page. --Jay (Talk) 19:06, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] No Manuél this time?

Should it be noted that you don't have to collect a manual in this episode? --DarkAlex 01:59, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps, but note that you DO collect game boxes, and one of the collectible cards has a hint for Gel-Arshie's Pro Fruitboarder on it. --Jay (Talk) 02:23, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Two of them. =) --Belthazar 05:09, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] No Costumes Outside Snap Shak?

Well, I just amxed out all my awesomeness and went to try out all the new costume items, and it STILL won't let me leave the Snap Shak without taking off the clothing first...

Should this be noted on the page, or is it just my copy of the game? CloneWarrior 03:01, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

It should be noted, but not as a goof - Telltale disabled it, because costumes would mess up some of the transition scenes. --Belthazar 05:09, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it's more likely that it's because of the Peasantry "Retro Mode" in Extended Play. But I would have rather had outside costume ability rather than the ability to play as Rather Dashing, really. SuperfieldCreditUnion

[edit] Dallas reference?

Could Strong Bad's waking up after defeating Trogdor to discover it was all a dream be a reference to the TV Show Dallas? Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:20, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's a reference to The Wizard of Oz, as Dorothy said similar lines to the people the Oz characters were based on. - CloneWarrior 01:25, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Aye. It's pretty much word-for-word, actually, only with the character names changed, of course. --Belthazar 01:30, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
What character names? It's all pronouns: "you were there! And you! And you!" However, Dorothy didn't do the "uh-oh, you were there" thing. :) --Jay (Talk) 01:31, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
The character names in my doodle memory, of course. --Belthazar 01:32, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Ah, yes. Now I remember. I was sure I had heard someone say that before. Homestar-Winner (talk) 03:41, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Not Quite Couch Mumbling

Before waking up next to the arcade cabinet, Strong Bad says RhinoFeeder. Would this be an instance of couch mumbling? He's asleep and says the name of an, ahem, 'old' video game. Does that qualify it? --The Swedish Ace 01:22, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

I see it as a throwback to Homestar Ruiner's intro sequence myself, where he mutters the same game name while sleeping on the couch. But yeah, it's a strange instance on "couch mumbling", even though he's technically not on the couch. Rexy-mberween (save the rabbits!) 10:17, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
So, should it be listed as couch mumbling, or maybe this deserves it's own special sub-section in the couch mumbling article. --The Swedish Ace 02:39, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm fine with it being listed as a couch mumble, though before doing so, this issue can really do with a third opinion. Rexy-mberween (save the rabbits!) 14:48, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'll put it as a couch mumble, newb question ahoy, but how do you post links to the articles of Rhinofeeder and couch mumbling? The Swedish Ace 20:06, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Rhino Feeder, Couch Mumbling BBG 20:15, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sam Adams?

The reference of Sam Adams speculates that his line regarding inventing beer probably refers to Sam Adams/The Boston Beer Company. While perhaps likely, the revolutionary-era man Sam Adams was also himself a brewer, so this is not necessarily an outside reference at all. 66.161.253.85 20:20, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Not necessarily, but as you say, likely. Samuel Adams is a well-known brand, and anyone familiar with the patriot's experience as a brewer will also be quite aware of the modern brand that bears his name. In fact, most people aware of the founding father's interest in brewing likely learned of it from the ads.

[edit] I must... GET A GOOD CAPTION!

There seems to be a debate over whether the caption for the gameplay photo should be "Uh... Anybody know hoe to kill a dragon?" or "I must... KILL TROGDOR!!!". Since the latter is already being used for the walkthrough, I propose we keep the former, since it fits well too. Any objections??? That Game Dude 386 19:55, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

I believe we should go with the latter (I was the one who changed it that way) because it's more dramatic, and fits the game's overall plot and theme together, because the goal of the whole game is to kill Trogdor, so the quote should be that. We could use the "Uh... Anybody know how to kill a dragon?" line for the walkthrough, because he's basically asking how you do it, which is what the walkthrough is for! - Tizye96

But the former was already there. We shouldn't change a caption unless a) it's already been used somewhere else in the wiki or b)there's a caption with more relevence to the picture than the current one. That Game Dude 386 21:45, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Replacing "Anybody know how to kill a dragon?" would break the pattern we've had since Episode 2 in which the caption in the episode's main article quotes its preview. BBG 06:20, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Right, let's keep the current. That Game Dude 386 16:37, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
But do patterns honestly matter? I thought the captions were supposed to sum up the article/and or/picture. Not keep a stupid pattern. It'd make PERFECT sense if "Uh... Anybody know how to kill a dragon?" were on the walkthrough instead.
I think people are most likely to visit an episode's main article, so that is the article that needs the best caption. Capital letters or not, "I must kill Trogdor" is hopelessly bland. If you like the quote "Anybody know how to kill a dragon?" wouldn't you put it somewhere where people can easily find it? BBG 03:13, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Playset?

I got all the Cheat Commandos Topplegangers Traction Figures and now how i got the Deluxe Submarine Junkyard Playset.

oh one more thing my rumor is use the Mista Fixit on Strong Badia

You don't. It was a joke. And what do you mean "your rumour"? Are you attempting to start one? --Belthazar 23:22, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
He posted this exact same thing on the forum. I told him the same thing you said, about it being a joke. He replied "Aren't you sure" The word "troll" keeps coming to mind for this one. --Guy in a Box 15:49, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New meaning for "Stinkoman"

During the credits, as Stinkoman slides in, his name at first appears to be "The Poopsmith" for a fraction of a second. 173.32.221.240 04:21, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

That would be a glitch - Opus the Penguin 17:00, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Trophy Glitch

Something happened in my game, and I think it may have caused a fatal gameplay error, so that I might have to restart my game. What happened was, I visited the half-athlon before I unlocked peasantry or anything, and then I ran through the obstacle course and decided to grab the trophy at the end. I couldn't find out how to cure Coach Z, and I hadn't collected the health crate yet, so I left. By the time I got the crate, it was aready a while later and I had visited a few more places. I gave the health to Coach Z, and I ran through the course a few times, failing to retrieve the scorpion food, of course, and then I talked to Strong Mad about the trophy. Surprisingly, the trophy was GONE. I hadn't given it to anyone, but it simply was not in my inventory anymore. Has this happened to anyone else/can you confirm it for me? thanks, --David Coppafeel 17:26, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

I know it's been a month, but I've got my suspicions on this one: did you, at any point, touch the checkpoint after getting the trophy? If not, that could be your problem, which would mean that the trophy would be back where you left it. Barring that, I dunno. Sounds like a glitch. --Jay (Talk) 15:18, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Der Poopsmith, auf Wiedersehen

I don't think we should list that as an error, since the line is referencing wolfenstein 3D, so at best it can be error of ID software. I don't think that is the case either, though. Even though Hitler (or KoT) is dying, he can still warn of his possible return, somehow. King Klear 20:38, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

I'll go ahead and remove it. King Klear 14:03, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I think he would rather say "I'll be back" or something if he intended to come back, but I don't know Wolfenstein, so I can't tell if it's more fitting in that context. --Cass from Germany 14:12, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Fruit overflow due to overloaded bit memory to reach kill screen?

Does this sound familiar? No? What about the infamous kill screen from the original Pac-Man. The only mention of Pac-Man here from Lady Crate Ape, which has littler resemblence.
Point 1: we add the kill screen glitch.
Point 2: we remove the Crate Ape reference, as it is too weak.
Who's with me, at least on one count?--Jellote wuz here 22:33, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

The kill screen in Pac-Man is one of the more infamous kill screens, but it's not the only one in existence. The Lady Crate Ape reference is shaky, admittedly. --Jay (Talk) 03:27, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but that's not the point. A fruit overflow caused the kill screen. Exact same idea.--Jellote wuz here 16:18, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Your premise doesn't hold. You can get to the pacman kill screen without gobbling a single bonus fruit. It's triggered by getting to level 256, and each level is beaten by gobbling all the dots, not the bonus fruit. — Defender1031*Talk 17:47, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright Protector

I've played various old games with annoying anti-piracy devices.

  • King's Quest IV requires you to enter a specific word from its manual.
  • Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe requires you to use a wheel (although I think that's just a password system to keep kids out).

StarFox 22:37, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Weird glitch in the Brother's Strong's House

During the part in the game when you are supposed to fetch 4 items for the ghosts in the Brother's Strong house, all while you are fending off various Redcoat ghosts, I accendintly clicked on the fridge during that time, and ended up activating the cutscene when you get caught by the Redcoat ghosts right after the little tidbit when you click on the fridge, even through there were no Redcoat ghosts near me!!! Can anyone reproduce this glitch?

199.197.108.227 19:05, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

It happened to me, too; I think it's more of a trap than a glitch, though. Strong Bad stops, checks the fridge, isn't paying attention to anything else, and blammo! Fortunately, you don't lose any progress made, and can just go right back inside. kyojikasshu 23:35, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] A winner is you

I remember the infamous line "A winner is you" from Pro Wrestling being mentioned in the game, but I cannot remember when. Some help so I can put it in the article?--No hay nick libre 20:46, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Maybe it's just a coincidence, but...

There seems to be a few heavily concealed references to The Angry Video Game Nerd in this episode. However, all of them are debatable, so I figured I'd list them so we can decide whether or not they're notable references:

  • The background noise in the Trogdor cabinet sounds exactly like the sounds heard in the logo section of some AVGN reviewsThe external website linked here contains offensive language and/or content. content warning
  • The FunMachine game is apparently "obscure, cheap, crappy, and old," which is exactly the kind of game the AVGN is known for reviewing.
    • This applies to most of the other FunMachine games as well. Strong Bad's criticism of Gel-Arshie's Pro Fruitboarder, though, are especially similar to AVGN reviews.
  • Strong Bad chases away the ghosts that invaded his house and the ghosts in the field with a "light musket" peripheral. The AVGN is known to destroy and chase off escaped protagonists/antagonists of games he reviews with video game peripherals as well.
  • Video game protagonists inexplicably show up in the "real world" to torment or annoy Strong Bad in the same manner as other video game protagonists show up to annoy the AVGN in his reviews.

However, none of these similarities point directly to the AVGN, so should any of these count as references, or not?

Points 2 and 4 are too general, and the Nerd was not the first to do any of them. Point 3 sounds right at a first glance, but the same could be said about the Nostalgia Critic and several others. The light gun was an actual Nintendo product, so it is fitting the Nerd would weild it. Plus, the Ghost Zapper doesn't kill the enemies like the Nerd's does. However, point 1 caught my attention. If memory serves, the two are quite similar. I support point 1.--Jellote wuz here 00:21, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Point 4 mainly applies to the trailer, where he stays in his room. That in particular strikes me as eerily similar. Especially after the release of the actual game, where Stinkoman never shows up in the real world, and especially not merely to anger him. Other than that, though, I agree with you fully-- it was point one that caught my attention, too... the rest were really just coincidences I listed for thinking along those lines... That Game Dude 386 22:13, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Do you mean the sounds at the VERY beginning of that video? If so, those are sounds from ScrewAttack, not AVGN (though AVGN is with ScrewAttack), and I believe they're taken from some Metroid game, since the name of the website is Screw Attack. So no, no AVGN reference. --Color Printer 18:17, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Kidd Video premise?

It seems to me that Strong Bad mentioning the TV show "where some real-world kids get sucked into a video game" is an obvious reference to Captain N: The Game Master, so I added that below the Saturday Supercade reference. Although, since he mentions "kids" plural, I wonder if the earlier cartoon Kidd Video could be a reference point as well, as it has a similar crossover-from-the-real-world-to-animated-world premise, featuring a teen rock band, even if it wasn't a video game world. Of course, I could be reaching here, but it probably wouldn't be the first time TBC have combined real-world references... kyojikasshu 23:31, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] DVD Glitch

I have the SBCG4AP DVD at home, and I've been playing the game on the computer. I don't know if this is DVD only, but here it is. I was playing the game one night, and I got to the battle between ULTIMATE TROGDOR!!! and Strong Bad. But during the fight (not in the cutscene leading to the fight, not for the rest of the game, but just the fight), no one was speaking. Not that there wasn't any sound, the music and SFX were working just fine, but no voices were coming out of the headphones. So, yeah, could someone confirm if that's happened on any other way to play it on the computer? I know it works on the Wii. BubsHeadStand 22:48, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Ghost sound during the credits

Hmmm, I heard a ghost sound in the credits (the sound that plays when your near a ghost that appears when you take a picture). Wouldn't that possibly mean that someone's name in the credits that comes on-screen when the sound plays died during the game's production? Pgj1997 23:20, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

The forum is the place for speculation and general discussion. ;) — Ngamer01 18:15, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Wait what? What's that gotta do with this? Pgj1997 02:06, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
If they didn't announce it, we have no way of knowing whether or not it's true. i don't think it's a practical idea, but i can't say for sure either way. your own word "possibly" is ringing the loudest; i suppose it is possible, but it's not provable or disprovable. Therefore, if this question must be brought up, it belongs on the forum. The Knights Who Say Ni 04:26, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Hard reset

One time, I was playing this until I reached Stinkoman 20X6. I saved the game, but it froze on me and created an infinite note. The note never changed, causing me to have to do a hard reset. Can you add this under Glitches for the Wii version? 166.216.165.53 10:35, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

What's an "infinite note"? — Defender1031*Talk 12:50, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
DeFender: I think Anonny is trying to say that the audio stopped updating.
Anonny: That's not worth listing under Glitches because the WiiWare version (of all five episodes) is known to have this problem — randomly. It can happen anywhere and at any time, especially in widescreen mode. There are specific places where it consistently happens, but most of those have already been found. -- ■■   PURPLE  WRENCH   ■■ 16:48, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Being a software developer myself, I'm fully aware of how sound buffers work. I just didn't know what "infinite note" meant without context (I was thinking of the other kind of note). That was a great explanation though. — Defender1031*Talk 18:37, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

[edit] Renames

All the responses pages and walkthrough have incorrect capitalization in the title (8-Bit Is Enough). We gotta change that. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 23:32, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
