I can't take the credit for this. The honor goes to all of you who have made the Wiki what it is. The worst part about all this is I can't share this with any of you guys. I wish you could all hold this letter in your hands and feel how nervous and shaky I felt when I opened it. I feel this could use all use a Wiki page somewhere. The letter being the focus, along with meantioning the compound eyes thing, and I think there's another instance on the new DVD or something. In any case, it does include 5 never before or anywhere else seen sketch pages, which deserves Wikifying in itself. Well, I tried adding the letter to Matt Chapman's page, but it got reverted because JoeyDay might not want to make a big deal out of it. I would definitely like a page of times the HRWiki was referenced by TBC and their friends, and this letter deserves to be on a page. - Joshua 12:30, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

No, I don't believe that they have mentioned the Fanstuff wiki. Probably because this wiki is more is more of an encyclopedia than a fan site, and their only mention was that they saw their own error by saying segmented eyes in animal. — Lapper (talk) 20:20, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

In answer to Joshua, yes, they have; see Matt Chapman#Misc.. I think such a page would be nice; I agree that it shouldn't be "made a big deal," but I don't see why it has to be a secret. And it would be egalitarian to extend it to other fansites. —AbdiViklas 22:43, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

How Should It Be Called?

Well, I like the idea of this page. What would it be called? "H*R Fansite Acknowledgements by TBC"? - Joshua

Well, actually, I was thinking that Homestar Runner Fansite Acknowledgements by The Brothers Chaps would be a bit of a record setting page title, compared to Homestar Runner and Strong Bad Screensaver which is the longest link from the impressively detailed list! But alas! I can't come up with anything better (other than The Brothers Chaps Fansite Acknowledgements), and I like record-setting! ;) --Stux 02:56, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

Don't forget to add: DVD Commentary meantions on SB4, and EE1, as well as The Chapos or Jonathan reccomending Bobby blackwolf send his interview over to us for wikifying. Fanstuff Wiki IRC Channel

Hi, Joey. I'd like you to know that you're not banned from my #fanstuff channel, and in fact you have level 20 access, which you have had for a while (did you know that?)

Anyway, I'd like you to reconsider #hrwiki-fanstuff or work something out with me. PM me on the forums. --Homsar999

Yes, I'm aware that you've unbanned me and given me level 20 access in #fanstuff. I appreciate that, but it doesn't change things.

Freenode describes in it's official policy how projects should name their channels. They specifically outline that once we've registered a name, we have control over any channel that starts with that name and a hyphen, as I've done in the case of #hrwiki-fanstuff. This is the recommended way of doing things, and you see it over and over again on Freenode in places like #drupal and #drupal-support or #wordpress, #wordpress-docs, #wordpress-bugs and #wordpress-meetup or #wikipedia and #wikipedia-tech. I'm confident that the way I've named the official fanstuff channel is the most appropriate way to do things.

Here's the bottom line: I don't have anything against your fanstuff channel, but the only way I would ever consider attaching it officially to the Wiki is if I and the other admins had full control over it. In other words, you would need to give up control over the channel entirely. I don't have anything against you personally, Homsar999; please understand that clearly. According to Elcool in the IRC channel, Tom made a mistake that happened to coincide with the latest NSMC attack in the Fanstuff wiki, so we had a combination of a database glitch and a trollbot attack blowing the whole wiki to heck for a while. —  KieferSkunk (talk) — 20:32, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

Ledger Question

Is that $19.37 in American or Canadian? Because the original $20.73, after minus $0.30 and 2.9% would translates into around $19.37 Canadian, wouldn't it? In which case, wouldn't the ledger be skewed if some totals were in Canadian, and others in American dollars? My calculations could be wrong, but I just thought I'd ask in case it got mixed up, to nip any miscalculations in the bud. I don't think the Canadian dollar's THAT strong, around 80 cents on the dollar as best I can remember. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 06:18, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Chat Channel Woes

"Connecting... Unable to connect : java.security.AccessControlException : access denied (java.net.SocketPermission irc.freenode.net resolve)"

I tried signing in as ThunderbirdL17 and ThunderbirdL19, neither worked. That's the first time it's happened, is it just some freak, one time glitch, or has my ability to log in to the chat channel been comprimised somehow? ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 00:57, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

Are you using chat.hrwiki.org? I upgraded it this morning to a new version of PJIRC. It was working for everyone who tested it earlier. I hope it's not permanently broken for some people. Try clearing your temp internet files and signing in again. I'm not sure what could've gone wrong. — Joey (talk·edits) 02:04, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I researched this a little further, and, yes, it could be due to you having the old version of the applet cached, so follow my previous advice. Some other possibilities:

1. You might be behind a firewall; make sure you're not or that it isn't interfering
2. You might've clicked "no" to the security warning that popped up; click "yes" instead :)
3. I might have to change some security settings on the server; I'm looking into this and will keep you posted

Yea, I clicked "No" to the security popup, that was it. I was also in a couple of other web-windows, and I guess I thought it came from there. I'm always leery to click "Yes" to an unexpected popup window. Then when I tried again, it didn't come back. I let it chill for a while though, and now it gave me another chance. More Chat Channel Woes

I've found one tiny drawback to using ChatZilla in the sidebar: If you use "/quit", it closes all your open tabs, in sidebar or not. - Kookykman(t)(c)(r)

I always hate leaving two headers in a row, but...
I was wondering if the chat channel is under the same CCL as the main wiki. On a related note, we're still using the old version of the liscense. Creative Commons seems to be wanting to phase that one out. (link to the new one) - Kookykman(t)(c)(r)

Firstly, they aren't admins on the Fanstuff Wiki Forum, so they won't be able to view that page. Secondly, when the admins make a choice like this, it's best you leave them alone, because you won't be changing their minds. - Joshua

I seem to recall you sic-ing Grapenuts on your old sig some time ago, with the mission to "fix really old versions of JoeyDay's sig" or something. Hey, Dot Com, TBird, do any of you have a list of users that have encountered said problem? (Does that include you Dot Com?)
