::::I think Mr. Bobo was just being cavalier. Outside of the wiki, I myself can cuss up a storm slightly more vulgar than "diaper biscuits", so his mildy bawdy language is no sweat to me. But it might offend someone (yourself included?) - dunno, just nicely let him know to watch the expletives. There should be no problem. {{User:Thesmokingmonkey/sig}} 23:11, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Fanstuff wiki

Can you please, PLEASE, unlock the Fanstuff wiki? H*R 700

I know you can't unlock it now, but could you tell us what kind of snag you hit? Like, why will it take until Wednesday? --thatkidsam 19:04, 11 Sep 2005 (UTC)

The fanstuff is unlocked; the message means that it will stay unlocked until at least Wednesday, when they will try again to move it. — It's dot com 19:09, 11 Sep 2005 (UTC)

FINALLY!!

JOE! JOE! It's over! I can edit stuff! You can remove the notice! Seek Bar

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but it's not over. We just unlocked the database because the first attempt failed. You're able to edit, but what you're seeing is all on the old server. If you read the site notice, it states that we'll attempt the migration again as early as Wednesday. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 02:33, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Sig Question

Hey Joey, can you tell me how to edit the size of your text in a sig, or anything else for that matter, within a span tag? I looked around, and all people did was use the small tag. -- Lapper (talk)

You can use the "font-size" property. Here's an example: '<span style="font-size:10px"> ... </span>' would set the type at 10 pixels tall. Note: your signature should not be any bigger than a normal line of type. — It's dot com 04:07, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Grape-Nuts Robot

Hi Joey. If User:GrapeNuts is your bot, would you mind making some kind of edit on it logged in as JoeyDay, just for confirmation, por favor. I remember the bot you mentioned you were working on, and I just want to make sure that this is it. (On the other hand, if it's not yours, someone is making edits using your name and has some big 'splaining to do.) Thanks. — It's dot com 05:20, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, he's mine. I made a minor edit to his userpage just now. Sorry for any ambiguity. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 05:23, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Oh, no probalo at all. Just keeping my eyes peeled. — It's dot com
And I greatly appreciate your peeled eyes, btw. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 05:28, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Re: If you think you have a task my bot could perform...

Well, I see it replaces text... What other things is it capable of? Oh, and like we discussed before, User:Rogue_Leader.sig → User:Rogue_Leader/sig would be a prime candidate for one of its tasks. — It's dot com 05:37, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I made that replacement by naming the exact page I wanted to find and replace on. To do a global find and replace they recommend I have a 'recent xml dump', whatever that is. I'm floundering around in the dark until I can figure that out, but GrapeNuts first task will probably be fixing Rogue Leader's sig, as you've suggested. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 05:44, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
This task is done, btw, as of early this morning. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 17:57, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Shouldn't it be classified as a bot? To filter it out of Recent Changes? -- Super Sam

He did. Oh, and Joey, you may want to take a look at rewriting this: HRWiki:Blocking_Policy#Bots. —BazookaJoe 11:35, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Oh, alrighty then. As for the Blocking Policy, I never really saw the need for that, since only Buareaucrats (however you spell it) can make them. -- Super Sam 13:00, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I'm not sure that's true. If it were, then we wouldn't have wondered about whether the so-called RC patrol bot was real or not. Either way, I put a no-brainer note in that section about bots. — It's dot com 16:01, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Just to clarify, anyone could write a bot script and (attempt to) use it. (Of course, currently we wouldn't allow bots that haven't been approved.) The scripts simply automate the process of editing, just like a regular user would do. If the bot is really good, we might not even notice that it's a bot. However, developers have the ability to mark a user as a bot so that their edits do not show on the Recent Changes page when viewed with "hidebots=1". -- Tom 18:19, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Python is my favorite programming language. Rock rock on. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 18:28, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Thanks, Tom. I've been trying to figure out the best way to articulate this since Super Sam commented above. You hit the nail on the head. Incidentally, I wasn't aware of our policy against bots and feel as though I may have stepped over the bounds of community expectation here. Do you (or anyone else, for that matter) have any qualms about me using GrapeNuts? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 18:32, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
No qualms here. I'm speaking for myself, but I'm confident others would agree with me in saying it isn't possible for you to overstep the bounds of community expectations when you, acting as a developer, perform maintenance vitally useful to the wiki as a whole. And I'm sure Rogue Leader greatly appreciates not having to make who-knows-how-many signature fixes himself on 209 different pages. My two cents. — It's dot com 18:46, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Well, what if I started using GrapeNuts for world domination? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 18:57, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
If you could figure out how to use a wiki patrol bot to take over the world, you deserve the title of world leader. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 18:58, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
And what if the sysops all started banning users who don't capitalize properly? That doesn't happen not because we can't do it but because we're trusted not to do it. Likewise, we trust you to use good judgment and not to break the wiki. Or if you do, then we trust that you'll fix it. Also, what HSR Username said. — It's dot com 19:12, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Thanks a lot Joey! Now I just need to get used to typing / instead of . now! Rogue Leader / (my talk) 19:32, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Wait... you're typing that each time? — It's dot com
No, I use tildes. Just a slip of the tongue. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 19:43, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)
You're welcome, Rogue Leader. Glad to have been of service. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 20:19, 16 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Wiki

Hey Joey. Is it alright if I use some of your templates and stuff for my wiki??? – Pertmywert (Talk·Edits) 22:20, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Everything here is released under a Creative Commons License, meaning you're free to use it as long as you don't make any profit. Will you be making any money on your wiki? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 23:05, 17 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Nope. I am with a free website hosting service so I don't need donations and all that stuff. -Pertmywert (Not logged in)

Donation

Has my donation arrived yet? I sent another money order at the same time to elsewhere in the USA, and I got a message today saying it had arrived. --phlip TC 10:32, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Phlip, I haven't seen your donation, yet, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled. I'll let you know when it gets here. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 18:40, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)

You Really Need to Know This

The user Bobo the King swore on the talk page for Commandos in the Classroom Post a line On my Tp Vile.exe

He's talking about this ten-day-old edit. — It's dot com 04:59, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
How was he swearing??? – Pertmywert (Talk·Edits) 07:38, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
He said the "D" word. Homestramy20|Talk 07:41, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Dam? – Pertmywert (Talk·Edits) 08:13, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Erm, yes. It can be concidered a swear, and it's rude. Homestramy20|Talk 08:27, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Freaking crap of crap! Diaper biscuits! Curses! we've gone to Hell! Come on.. The D word? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:04, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Now now, controll yourself!:P But yes, he did acutally swear because he used the word vainly. Homestramy20|Talk 09:09, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
In the toon's context, how can "If Sonic can talk about "touching", "teen pregnant" seems pretty damn tame to me." be offensive? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:12, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I... uh... It just is!:P Well, it sounds maybe not offensive, but it isn't that innocent... if ya know what I mean? Some one help me out here? Homestramy20|Talk 09:15, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Advise for a new wiki!

Hey there! Me and a couple of my friends started a wiki for our club. I'm the new admin there and would like to ask you if you have any advise to give about starting to make a wiki. What to post on the main page, who should I appoint to dmin with me? Are there any "insiders tips" for running a wiki more smothly? (i.e.: reducing file size ect.) We run on MediaWiki, on Hebrew language, but all the coding is the same. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:21, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)

GrapeNuts project

I have a new GrapeNuts project. The punctuation should be bold in the following text:

'''Debut''': → '''Debut:'''

Another question: Should we post new projects here, or on User_talk:GrapeNuts, or where? — It's dot com 22:50, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Actually, I can't think of any context in which the colon should be outside the triple single quotes (or are you just picking an example?) --Jay (Gobble) 23:03, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
