Hip hop music is a popular music genre highlighted several times in the Homestar Runner body of work.
Hip hop slang is often used by characters, such as the commonly uttered phrase "dag, yo" in Teen Girl Squad.

According to the Yearbook Character Page, Coach Z claims to have been a chart-topping rapper in his home country. He has dressed up as several rappers for Halloween, and he is also a fan of the Wu-Tang Clan. Coach Z and Bubs had once formed a rap duo in cheatday, calling themselves the Two-O-Duo.

- Email new hands — Coach Z raps "These peoples try to fade me" while Strong Bad is using his hypothetical bucket hand to drop a beat.
- Coach Z's Character Video — Coach Z attempts to sing his single "These peoples try to fade me", but the video ends before he can.
- Email your funeral — Coach Z accidentally records a song over Strong Bad's speech in your funeral.
- 3 Times Halloween Funjob — If the player selects the Delicious "Bag", Coach Z will reply with an "old school" rap response.
- Fall Float Parade — The K.O.T.H.S. Junior Varsity Marching Band plays in the 4Tst Annual Fall Float Parade, and Coach Z freestyle raps to their tune until his co-host Marzipan tells him to stop.
- Email nightlife — When Coach Z goes out to Club Technochocolate, the party-goers get "treated" to him counting to two all night.
- Email being mean — In the drama club performance, Coach Z performs "Being Mean Ain't the Greatest Choice.
- Homestar Ruiner — One of Coach Z's demos sits inside Strong Bad's See Dee Spinner. If selected during the victory party, Homestar will do a head-spin, while Marzipan complains that hip-hop objectifies women.
- Strong Badia The Free — Homestar describes to Marzipan that Coach Z joined the enemy, he calls him "the traitorous Coach Z" and claims that that is his "new rap name".
- Loading Screens — In the middle of the song, Coach Z performs a fast-paced rap break.

- Theo Huxtable (Halloween Potion-ma-jig) — When asked why wasn't he a rapper this year, Coach Z insists Theo Huxtable is "one of the greatest rappers of our time", imitating Theo's rap line "jammin' on the one" from The Cosby Show episode "A Touch of Wonder".
- "Rapping paper" (Which Ween Costumes?) — Initially labelled as "???", Coach Z explains the groaning-inducing pun of his costume when clicking on him.
- Malcolm from Kyrandia 3 (Halloween Hide & Seek) — To keep with his tradition of going as "rappers" for Halloween, Coach Z says Malcolm's Revenge had "a slammin hip hop theme song".

Strong Bad is a fan of the genre. He has rapped many times, including his Number One Jam Everybody to the Limit. He has collaborated with Coach Z on Fish Eye Lens. Also, many of his email intros feature a rap style.

- Email 12:00 (Easter egg) — A VHS cassette labelled with the show Yo! MTV Raps is one of the tapes found inside Strong Bad's VCR.
- Email dragon — The email intro is a direct reference to a line from Phife Dawg in the song "La Schmoove" by Fu-Schnickens.
- Email rampage — Strong Bad goes on a lyrical rampage with Coach Z.
- Email pizzaz — After initial confusion from the sender referring to him as a dawg foo gangsta, Strong Bad creates the the Dog Food Gangstas.
- Email technology — Strong Bad mentions "-izzle" as an option of ways to end an email address.

The Cheat is a DJ who plays hip hop and other genres, such as indietronic (geddup noise). He assisted Strong Bad in making the video for his rap song Everybody to the Limit (earning a pizza), as well as the videos for Hip Hop Dance and Rap Song. and remixed the King of Town's "Not Talkin' 'bout Butter" in hip hop form (Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 13.2).

Peacey P is a rapper that The Ugly One admires. His voice and singing style is very similar to that of Snoop Dogg. He claims to be the best guest rapper in the music biz, even going so far as to be a guest rapper on his own album, Deliberance. Other guest artists featured on the album include Large Craig, The Overripe MC, Tenerence Love, and Akryllix & 3rd Lung.

- In New Boots, The Cheat dances a hip-hop dance on Homestar with his boots, after he pours hot soup on Homestar's eyes.
- In Halloween Potion-ma-jig, Homestar mentions "rap music" and asks Strong Sad what he would rap at a party.
- Crack Stuntman is seen rapping positive messages to kids and teens in An Important Rap Song.
