I would like to include as a Real World Reference that the video is a parody of Goofus & Gallant. Though it is named after a Highlights feature starting in 1948, it used to describe a particular structure of educational films, contrasting good behavior with bad behavior. The hygiene video is clearly a parody of that style of educational film, thus I do not feel it is TTATOT, especially if worded correctly. wbwolf (t | ed) 14:43, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

The similarity between the popular comic in Highlights and the filmstrip is indisputable. However, the "good boy" vs "naughty boy" method is not unique. I simply don't see any direct reference to Goofus & Gallant in this cartoon. Thank you for those. I did not consider it appropriate for hrwiki to coin a new phrase. I see now it is common usage, at least in the given subculture. The point is it the name is applied to a style of educational film, which the hygiene video is parody of. I have tried to word the entry to be clear it is referring to a class of films, rather than a direct reference to the Highlights cartoon. Also, this is not the first time that a particular style of film has linked. Notably, DNA Evidence is noted as a goof on film noir, even though it is not referencing a particular film, or Limozeen: "but they're in space!" is a parody of '70s animation. I see the point now, which is that the New Paper did not completely shred the disk last email, so we would expect it to still be there. Gene's name, the acronym "TGIG" (Thank God I'm Gene), and Gene's grade of G- are all references to the letter G. Gene is not a reference to the letter G, it is a reference to Hygiene. The following fact was added to STUFF, but there was no discussion here, and I couldn't find any diffs to the article where people were adding and deleting it. So, I'm guessing that whether or not this fact should stay can probably be decided on this talk page.

Homestar's shirt for Out of State University is very similar in both abbreviation and color scheme to those of Ohio State University.

The arguments for this fact were that (1) Ohio State University is referred to as OSU, and Out of State University is referred to as OoSU, and (2) the colors of both OSU and OoSU are red and white.

The arguments against this fact were that (1) Homestar's shirt is always red and white, (2) OSU are the only possible initials it would have, (3) "x State University" is common school name. Anything they might have used as the first word would stand a very good chance of sharing initials with some school, (4) Ohio State University is referred to most commonly as Ohio State, and (5) Ohio State's t-shirts usually have the school's logo instead of the abbreviation.

The people who were starting to vote for that fact had all declined it so far; I'm imagining that the fate of this fact can be decided simply by a talk page discussion. Trey56 21:02, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah. The film is a fictional example. The folks at EEF cast Homestar as John, Strong Bad as Gene, and some babe as Gene's mom. Or it may not even be a real person. I've seen a number of the StrongBadMan comic covers on the site over the years. This one is particularly similar to the Marvel Comics covers of the mid-1990s. To wit:

1. The style and font of the box with the issue number, and the price.
2. The FREE in "Cheap as FREE" in the upper left has a similar height, and open lettering to the font Marvel used at that time.
3. The Strong Bad face, white on black, in the lower left - which was printed in the place of the UPC symbols for issues sold directly at comic retailers. (VERY reminiscent of the style used when Spider-Man first started wearing the alien suit.

This is a bit of stretch in terms of notability, but I think that Strong Bad's complaint about getting emails from a fifth grader and where are the college girls is a reference to how homestarrunner.com's audience had trended down in terms of age. One only has to look at the Wiki to see how many users are in the 11-14 age range (and us oldsters are not as common). homestarrunner.com has always been a child (family) friendly site. From the beginning, Matt and Mike are very intentional about this fact. Ha Ha, my kind trending down the wiki. But i noticed that too. My cousin and his friends LOVED homestarrunner two years ago (he's like 22) then he told me about it, then i told all of my friends, then he and all his friends stopped watching it. The tribute to Mabel easter egg is a reference to the website email, which has the exact same picture, with a slightly different quote. In "website" the speech bubble says "It's 4th and 10. Now WHERE'S MY SUPPER?!?" while in this one, it says "It's 4th and 10. Now WHERE'S MY ETERNAL SUPPER?!?"

You're not alone on this mistake. My first ever edit was mentioning in the movies of the "Cingular Tone" while it said already said as the "Nokia Tone" it was removed shortly after.
