[edit] Download links

Hey there The Mu. I don't think we need a download link for every little thing on the main page. We should just hit the most important things, like toons. — It's dot com 19:09, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

And Quote of the Week? If there's a download button for QotW, then there should be a download button for Podstar Runner. --Da M-izz-uTizzalk 19:10, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Except that you did the QotW link too. Did you want me to remove that one as well? I originally left it because I thought there was a decent enough chance that those might be clicked on. — It's dot com 19:21, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
...I did no such thing. Those little boxes are actually new to me. Go in the history, I had no partaking in that. --Da M-izz-uTizzalk 19:44, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry. I was confusing you with The Teach!. — It's dot com 19:46, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Oh. But that's beside the point. I would use those buttons. --Da M-izz-uTizzalk 19:47, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
I think we could remove the QotW download links. I don't think very many people use the Main Page for downloading files. You use them, but does anyone else? Do people who just view the wiki on a casual basis find them useful? -- Tom 19:49, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Not quite standard, but not quite v

The edit of flashback by 151.203.197.108 wasn't TECHNICALLY vandalism. Somehow, a large portion of the page was removed by E.L. Cool a few days ago, and Mr. IP was somehow the first to notice. He was trying to re-add the Strong Bad Email template, but in an unconventional format. Just a heads up. And knowing is half the battle and all that nonsense. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 21:07, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Redirects

Hey, Mu. Re: this edit: yeah, automatic redirects won't go to a specific page location, just to the page itself. Though, there's no harm in adding them, as if someone found themself on the "no redirect" version of the page, clicking the link will cause the browser to jump to the section. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:34, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Alright. Thanks. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 20:56, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Subtitles

When writing subtitles, please make sure to follow all the rules. I'm getting very tiring of cleaning up after you. (Transcript all spoken dialogue, and copy your text from the official transcript.) - Joshua 15:05, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

FYI, "es" is correct as it's the Wikipedia:ISO 639 language code for Spanish. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 15:59, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Joshua: I knew that, and I was planning to get around to fixing it before you decided to take on the project.
CupOfCoffe: OK. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 19:02, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Summaries

Hey, Mu. This edit: now if the anonny didn't know how to see he was reverted, how will he read your comment? Remember, with anonnys and new users, they don't probably even know about RC or History. Unbelievable but true. Keep on doin' this like Brutus! Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 19:54, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Wait, if they don't know about the RC or History, then how can they know how they got reverted, even if we put down a summary?--H*Bad 19:59, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
They may not even understand the concept of "revert". They may say, "Hey, I can add something? Cool!" and go and do it. Then when they call their friend over to see what they just added: "Hey, it must not have taken or something. Let me add it back." I just made that up, but you see the point.
In this specific case, the user may have seen he was reverted actually. Trey's correction was incorporated, and the anonny may well have thought that was fixed now. If we assume that's true, then Mu's "didn't you see you were reverted?" would probably have been seen as a little insulting. Summaries should address the why, not "Shut up, kid." Anyway, that's my take. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:06, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
No I mean, if a new user doesn't know about the RC or History, then how can they possibly see what they did wrong. So really, they could just keep adding it and adding it over and over, and would never know that someone was reverting him.--H*Bad 20:08, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Absolutely. That's why, with signed-in users, we offer help on their Talk page. In the case of an anonny, it's more complicated, but if an anonny were to try the same mistake a few times in a row one would be in their right to put a polite comment on the talk for the IP. That way they'll read it once they see the big ugly orange box. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:35, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My answer about yourself

Yes, that IS great that you are 13, and you live in New Hampshire. But what city in that state do you live at? -Viklas

It's great that you're creepy! (Also, if you knew me well enough, you would know what state I live in.) ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 19:30, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Ahem, you basically called me creepy, so I guess there is no choice but to block you for until you stop calling me something that is like: (cheeky ba***rd;creepy;stupid;a**hole;smarta**,etc.). I will give 2 chances, but if you blow them, game over, dude! -Viklas
... WHAT? ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 01:00, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Since you didn't know what I said, I'll give you 1 chance! -Viklas

[edit] dna subtitles

Hey, I didn't even notice you'd started work on Subtitles:dna/en, because I mistakenly thought the page was supposed to be Subtitles:DNA/en. Feel free to copy and paste the tail end of the timings from that if you want. I'll mark the one mistakenly did for deletion later if there's nothing you need there.BryanCTC 01:15, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vendetta?

Do you have some personal vendetta against the word "comprised"? You've replaced it unnecessarily with the word "composed" on several pages. The two words mean essentially the same thing, but according to my dictionary: traditional usage is that the whole "comprises" the parts and the parts "compose" the whole. I'm'a gonna revert some of those changes according to traditional usage.BryanCTC 20:13, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Did you see my original edit summary? Here's a handy guide.
  • This is OK:
The whole comprises the parts.
  • This is OK:
The parts compose the whole.
  • This is OK:
The whole is composed of the parts.
  • This is NOT OK:
The whole is comprised of the parts.
Get it? That's what I was changing. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 20:17, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I see the distinction now. Though, in some cases it reads awkwardly to me, perhaps shifting some words around to turn the object into the subject of the sentence would read better. As is, your changes are more proper.BryanCTC 20:26, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This page comprises this thread...

Hey, re: your recent edits: check the usage note here - while I don't contest your edits, I think people should be aware that nearly all standard dictionaries give, as a valid definition of comprise, "compose". Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:18, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

See above. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 20:19, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I have. Did you note the link? These guys are professional lexicographers. If they say usage of comprise as a synonym for "compose" is prevalent, I'll trust them. I'm just saying your editing spree might be unnecessary in the long run. A comparable example would be changing each sentence which ends in a preposition. While there was a time that grammar rule was adhered to, it's simply not applicible to modern English, and we can grammatically use a preposition at the end of a sentence if we want to. :) Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:25, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
And did you note that they have a warning at the bottom of the page for those who choose to use it as a synonym for "compose?" ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 20:30, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Certainly yes. You are the critic they warned about. However, that note is also implicitly saying that such criticism is not entirely supported by the realities of modern usage. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:31, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, this is a trivial thing to argue about, but... I like to be strict in following rules of grammar in an encyclopedic reference such as hrwiki.com. But language is a fluid thing and often usage diverges from "rules". IMHO, current common usage should prevail. (It eventually does, even if it takes dictionaries a decade to catch up). As for this specific case, I don't feel strongly either way, just some of the wordings felt a little awkward to me as I stated in the previous post.BryanCTC 20:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
This is why I began by saying I was not contesting his edits, just letting him know that unless the clarity of that specific example is improved, simply replacing a correctly-used word with another correctly-used word is hardly an effect use of his time and skills. [edit] Fthoom-Bang

Just wanted to thank you for having my back there. To paraphrase Bart Simpson: "Go, The Mu! Way to cite precedent!" --Jnelson09 03:32, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Signature Problem

I found out the problem with your new addition to your signature - somehow the code you had written was causing an empty </li> tag to be inserted into your signature. I'm afraid I don't know the cause of this, but you seem like a pretty smart person. I think you can fix it.· · T2|Things 21:32, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Parsing the HTML code won't work here. My sig had gotten too complex for its own good. As such, I reverted it. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 21:33, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Umma-umma-umm...

This might not be suitable for a discussion page, but... The Mu, besides being a Sonic fan (like me), did the inspiration for your username come from Earthbound? You know, Earthbound. Ness? The Mu as in Mu training? Neox

Interestingly enough, no. Although I am a fan of Earthbound, my username is not derived from that but rather of an alternate spelling of the word "moo." ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 19:23, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, it still pretty cool. ^_^ Neox

[edit] Funny Wiki

I'm moving The Funny Wiki back to the one you made. I need your help on an editing probablem, and my FireFTP Password. TheThin 21:26, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] How did you do that?

i'm just wondering how you made your userboxes oval-y. you put userOVAL instead of userBOX, but how did you format the pictures in them? Thanks for answering. (in advance) <Kermit1234> 02:58, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
