[edit] Noinclude
Hey Lapper, how are you? I was looking at your signature help page and noticed that your autosig template wasn't playing nice with the dates and stuff. I looked at it but couldn't figure out what the problem was. Unless it has to do with the <noinclude>
section -- perhaps the five quotes ('''''
)? I know I always run into trouble when putting those together and it might be throwing off the wikicode parser. Anyway just wanted to let you know. --Stux 21:18, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks. I'm not sure what caused it, but it was in the <noinclude> code. It's fixed now, and thanks for the help. — Lapper (talk) 21:23, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- Cool! No prob! It's a mystery to me too, since I was clearly wrong about my single quotes theory. You could put the usage information on its talk page if you want. (Oh then again it might've been closing the bold before the italics, and messing things up? either way.) --Stux 21:31, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah. Before I knew the tag even existed that's what I used to do. (Actually, I still do). Since the tag doesn't work properly i see no harm in doing that. But that's only if you really wanted the help information somewhere. It is your tag after all. --Stux 21:41, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- Oh! What I meant by not working correctly was when it came to use in-line, where it was necessary that the template did not break lines apart. --Stux 21:53, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Users in Main Namespaces
Greetings, Sir Lapper! I was just wondering what exactly you meant by the comment you left on my electronic talk page. It read:No article in a Main namespace should reference or direct to a user. Except in the rare case of a Strong Bad Email sent in by a Wiki user, or a Fanstuff sent in by a Wiki user.I apologize that I am not exactly fluent in this new fangled electronic-type language. Does this by chance mean that I must be rid of my electronic Honorary Gang Members section? It is merely no more than a "souped up" favorite user section. Hopefully incorrect, Sir Strong Bad
- Not at all. It means that, as a general rule of thumb, that you can not link to a user's userspace from inside a normal article. We like to keep the encyclopediac style of articles as valid as possible. — Lapper (talk) 02:30, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Recent Changes revert
Hey Lapper. The list of names on the RC Patrol looked good, but you took out all the timestamps, so I had to revert it. Sorry. — It's dot com 14:51, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
- It's okay, It's dot com. Just wondering why they should be there if neither of the other lists has them. We don't need to know the exact minute any given person joined. — Lapper (talk) 16:05, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Substitution
Hi Lapper. I was wondering, why excactly did you do this? Was it so now he won't edit the template? — talk Bubsty edits 03:42, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, Bubsty, what I did was changed {{User:Bubsty/welcome}} to {{subst:User:Bubsty/welcome}}. This process works out a little bit smoother on the server, and a little bit cleaner on the userpage when you simply use subst: in front of your welcome template. This excerpt from Help:Template may provide more details:
Substituting
I hope this answers your question. — Lapper (talk) 03:51, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
For some templates, it is a better idea to take load off the server and use subst: before the template name. This substitutes the dynamic code on the page with static text. For example, {{tick}} will display as {{tick}} in the code, while {{subst:tick}} will display as [[Image:wiki tick.GIF]] in the code.
- Additionally, Bubsty, welcome templates should be substituted for the very reason you said, so that they won't be accidentally edited. — It's dot com 00:51, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Personal images
I'm not sure, DoianGray. However, that's a good point. Let's wait until HRWiki:Personal images developes, first. — Lapper (talk) 03:54, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
Indeed. Let's figure out what our guidelines are before you let anyone else know that they're going against them. Thanks. :) — It's dot com 16:51, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
- So, in fact, we shouldn't be informing people they have too many images? It may take quite a while to trackback once we've tagged all the images. — Lapper (talk) 16:54, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
- Only if it's a clear-cut case. And by clear-cut I mean that more than two images are on a specific user's page and on no other pages (including other user pages). — It's dot com 17:04, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] CSS Text
You should save this on your userpage or something. This really rules, man! — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 17:09, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you so much. I had actually made it a week or so previously, only to find how horribly disfigured it became in the sandbox, forcing me to re-style it. I don't know about saving it in my userpage, but you're welcome to if you wish. — Lapper (talk) 23:32, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
- If I wish to what? Add it to your userpage? My userpage? P.S.: Why you're never on IRC anymore? — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:08, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] IRC
You are not on IRC. Been for a minute and then leaving. Now I'm back and we can chat! — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 10:02, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm on. Always on. — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 17:35, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Incorrect label
Hey, I was wondering regarding that note put at the bottom of Image:Hrwiki_brokenheart.png. I uploaded it, not Salty! I'm kinda confuzzled. I AM using it in my sig. So... yeah... can you just... confirm this? ♥ teeeffoh! 23:59, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- Not entirely sure what was going through my head when I threw that label on there. I obviously didn't mean to do that, however, thank you for notifying me. I have fixed the label. — Lapper (talk) 00:10, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Happy New Year!
I know it's a little late, I just wanted to wish you a happy new year, and may your blogs have the readership of the entire world! — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 10:52, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- Heh, the readership of the world. Thanks a bunch, E.L. Cool. — Lapper (talk) 13:11, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Userpage
Those are hilarious, truly cream of the crop. Your overall userpage too, it looks awsome. And it should, since it looks like you went to alot of work. The "Memories" and "User Quotes" are great; I never knew It's Dot Com made the annony edit, and I recognized all the Admin quotes, but none of the other ones. Well I'm going to bed now, just wanted to commend you on an excellent userpage. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 06:35, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you very much, Thunderbird L17. I'm very glad you've taken the time to read it. — Lapper (talk) 11:48, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
I really like it, especially your pic; nice! — Darth Katana X ( )
How can I create a page like it? I tried, but it just kept backfiring on me. Could you help? Thanks. ——Supuhstar*
- A userpage is your own design. Think it through and I'm sure you'll end up with something you can enjoy. — Lapper (talk) 21:49, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Definite Article
Thanks for bringing up that it's still a stub, but I'm not sure about adding all of the characters you listed. Please see the talk page for a brief discussion of that. Do you actually have the page in progress? Sorry if my editing stepped on your editing toes. Homestar Coder 01:40, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- I do have the page currently in progress, and I'm up to my neck in it, but I have it open in a seperate window. When I'm finished, we can remove some of the inappropriate ones. Thanks for the heads up, Homestar Coder. — Lapper (talk) 01:43, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- Isn't every appropriate character already on the page? Who are you thinking of adding (surely not that whole list)? Homestar Coder 01:52, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- Uh, I'm not saying that your work isn't any good, I'm just wondering who you think is appropriate to add that hasn't already been added. Most of the characters in the comments don't really work for the page, IMO. Homestar Coder 01:56, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] All-nighter troll fighters
Hey, Lapper, crazy night last night, eh? Your tenacity in staying awake that late is awesome. Here's a little image so we can remember how you stayed up to stop people from breaking our cow lamps. You are my D-O-G-E. Heimstern Läufer 21:37, 28 January 2006 (UTC)- Thanks so much, Heimstern Läufer. I probably would have fallen asleep if you weren't there helping out. — Lapper (talk) 21:39, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- Glad I could be of serivce. We can thank Mozart for that: If I hadn't stayed up to watch Amadeus in honor of his birthday, I might have been asleep at the time. But the three of us (with ol' HSR username) handled it. Oh, and I prefer to be called just "Heimstern". Saying "Heimstern Läufer" when addressing me always seems a bit stuffy to me. With a lot of crap, Heimstern Läufer 22:12, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- No biggie, man, just thought I'd let you know. You get to be on first name terms with me. Talk atcha later! Heimstern Läufer 22:19, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Macromedia Flash
I thought of one more thing to add ... but nothing else ... and it wasn't from reading the Macromedia Flash article on WP. Why is this article called a stub, when it has all the information? I am not aware that there is anything else relevent ... --NERD42 email talk h²g² pedia uncyc 05:06, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

I am proud to say that you are the winner of my caption contest! Thanks for joining, and there'll be more to come! Seriously (Talk) 14:00, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Congrats, Lapper! --אוקאלייליי (Ookelaylay)

[edit] Pi
When I was looking through the RC and seeing you wrote in the summery {{pi}}, I thought you meant something like this:
— Elcool (talk)(contribs) 14:37, 24 February 2006 (UTC) (P.S: Yeah, that's an ugly Pi)
- Nice userbox. I really enjoy that one. However, I almost always abbreviate templates in my edit summaries, such as {{unsigned}} to {{us}}, and {{personal-image}} to {{pi}}. And yeah, the script π looks way better than that block one. — Lapper (talk) 02:47, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Interesting. It shows up as script on this 600 MHz PowerPC G3 iMac, but not on my 800MHz PowerPC G4 iBook. — Lapper (talk) 16:21, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Validation
why'd you make the change from font to span. seems kinda arbitrary to me. I R F 22:04, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
<span>
is more correct than the deprecated<font>
tag as of HTML 4.0. Just as CSS is slowly replacing all attributes. — Lapper (talk) 22:14, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'd say quickly not slowly. Although I'm not really up on all the W3C or WC3 stuff (not sure which it is). In looking at Joey day's website, he is nutso about that stuff. I tried to mimick some of his CSS stuff but wasn't entirely sucessful. And since I see that by your Babel boxes that you CSS rating is advanced, I was wondering if you could take a look at the CSS file here and make some suggestions. It looks different in each browser. Sometimes the colors change on the navigation bar upon mousing over, sometime they don't. Things don't quite line up on the right, and in some browsers the links on the right, appear to far down, I think that is a

- I'd start with using the
@import
command:<style type="text/css">@import "file path";</style>
It's always worked out for me when using external style sheets better than anything else, and that webpage you showed doesn't seem to be utilizing it. By the way, it's "W3C"; short for "World Wide Web Consortium". The "W3" is more of a "W3". — Lapper (talk) 03:04, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category capitalization
The original is Running Gags (with both words capitalized). Should the subcategories not match? — It's dot com 23:02, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. Is that usually the case, considering "Gags" isn't a proper noun or the first word? — Lapper (talk) 23:03, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, we're not really consistent. I was just pointing out that we capitalized both words in the first case. — It's dot com 23:52, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Seeing you taking all this short articles and destubbing them can really motivate a user to take on an article and to just start writing about it. You deserve this promotion. — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 11:18, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eretz
Hi Lapps, I saw you and TBird wondering what the Eretz in my nick stands for. Well, you were right. Eretz is indeed "land" or "country", but your conclution was way off. I wasn't "out and about" as you said, I just watched a TV show called "Eretz Nehederet" :). And you can't all over Israel in a day. — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:43, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
