[edit] Developing this page
See Wikipedia's help page for when I am getting most of this from. Really I'm just trying to get this started. I know we are going to need much more. Any ideas? -- Tom 07:25, 29 Jul 2004 (MST)
[edit] Question about piped links
[moved to discussion page]
- The piped link to properly sort items in Categories doesn’t seem to work yet Drhaggis 13:05, 13 Sep 2004 (MST)
- I noticed this last week. If you make a category link a piped link, the bit after the pipe is supposed to be the sort key for the category page, e.g. for The Cheat you could do in order to make The Cheat appear under the C's and not the T's. But for some reason this doesn't work here. Any ideas, anybody? -- InterruptorJones 13:22, 13 Sep 2004 (MST)
- The correct way to link to a category is :Category:Characters, which will result in Category:Characters. noclip

- That's right, but Jones and Drhaggis were talking about something else six months ago. That is piped links in categories. It's the Albert Einstein example on that page that doesn't seem to work. -- Tom 09:46, 22 Mar 2005 (MST)
[edit] Recent changes RSS
It seems the RSS and ATOM feeds of the Recent Changes page aren't getting all the changes. I really can't tell why it's picking up what it does or why it omits what it does, but this could use a look. --Southpaw018 05:23, 25 Oct 2004 (MST)
[edit] FAQ Talk Clearing
Should we begin to clear out the FAQ Talk page? It's beginning to look cluttered. →FireBird

[edit] Spam Trolling
For the past few days this page has been vandalized every hour at about 25 minutes after. We have tried constant reversion, leaving the vandalism there, and blocking IP ranges, but nothing has been effective. There has been a suggestion to protect this page to prevent the troll from continuing his attacks. We would appreciate any input on this matter, whether to support protection or come up with other ideas. Username-talk 21:34, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
- Having been here and reverted some of these attacks, I totally support whatever you guys eventually decide on doing. This needs to stop. I wish I could come up with something more clever, but support is all I can offer. Good luck with whatever course of action you decide. --DorianGray
- I really dislike the idea of protecting the page, but just in case, I started work on this template: vprotected. — It's dot com 21:54, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
- I say, put the note, protect th page and watch out if the spammer move to another page. Aprat from the updates in the help pages from lapper, there were no real signs of activity here. — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 22:31, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

- I think vprotected is a viable option at this point. -- Tom 00:29, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- We'll try it for a coupla days to a week and see what happens. —BazookaJoe 01:08, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- It happened again. That bot likes it here. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 00:06, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
- Interesting. Perhaps a constant protection is the only permanent solution. Thankfully this page is usually pretty static. People can always request changes here like the template says. I'm going to leave this protected until a good petition for unprotection comes along. —BazookaJoe 01:47, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Statement: It has been nearly 2 months since this page was first protected. Question related TO above statement: Is it still necessary to keep this page protected? I'm still curious as to if the troll is still trying to troll. That is all. Alcnolien 18:19, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- I have made those changes, and I unprotected the page to test whether it's still being spammed. — It's dot com 18:28, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- I just realized: even if the troll is still around for whatever reason, it wouldn't be able to spam anyways because anonymous editing has been disabled. Alcnolien 01:21, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, that occured to me as I was driving home the other day after I'd unprotected it. On top of that, when anonymous editing is restored (which hopefully will be soon), there will be a couple of security measures in place that should prevent all automated spamming, so it looks like this page is clear to be unprotected indefinitely. w00t! — It's dot com 18:01, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sig help
How do I keep my signature from skipping a line? --(U)(T)(C) 17:47, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- Easy. Don't put it in a table. By the way, don't make a gray background. — It's dot com 17:52, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- A. Okay, how do I get the gray background without using a table?
- B. Why not have a gray background? --(U)(T)(C) 20:03, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- Never mind. --(U)(T)(C) 17:49, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- The reason I requested no gray background is that backgrounds take up too much space and call too much attention to themselves, but as long as you keep the background confined to the letters of your name only (with no extra border), then your sig looks fine (that is, on the date shown in the timestamp here, it looked fine). — It's dot com 18:31, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Help Nav Template?
This discussion was copied from Help_talk:IRC#Help_Nav_Template.3F where I had originally posted it.
Oooo... I was just thinking, perhaps a Help Navigation Template and/or a Help Category might be great to make it easy for users to navigate the help and find what they need... ? --Stux 20:32, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- I considered that, but there are so few help pages that all of them can be seen at a glance in Special:Allpages. I'll do it if there's a concensus, though. — Lapper (talk) 20:35, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- I was just gonna add your list of all the help stuff Lapper has made to my post. Yes they are easily accessible from there, but these are Help pages! Generally these are meant for people who generally may still need to know what the Special Pages button is for. For the rest of us... I personally wouldn't have even thought to look there. I think visibility is key. --Stux 20:39, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] External Pic
How can you link a website through an image? I've seen it done, but don't remember how. Strong Devon 19:01, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- http://www.hrwiki.org/images/absoluteurl.png — Lapper (talk) 19:04, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Can you do it without the link img? Strong Devon 19:12, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, if you would like to create that link without the "external link" symbol, put the tags
...
- around the link. Trey56 19:15, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fanstuff Subsection
Since the fanstuff's help button links here, I would like to suggest that either:
- A fanstuff help subsection be added for links pertaining directly to fanstuff help.
- A fanstuff help page is created that lists its own help and links to this page. (Thus changing their help link to that page)
Not only that, we should go over some of these pages (like article/user page standards) and perhaps make sections that allude primarily to fanstuff wiki readers. --Stux 15:23, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- How much are we talking about here? If it's a line or two, then I don't have a problem with including it here, but if it's more substantial, then anything that pertains only to the fanstuff wiki should be there only. They could have their own Help:Contents page with links to their own local pages for fanstuff-specific things, and for things that pertain to both wikis they can link from that page here if we're not wanting to duplicate content. (That may be what you were saying; I wasn't for sure.) — It's dot com 16:52, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah that's pretty much what I was talking about, and I do think option #2 would probably be best. I honestly don't know for sure if two lines would suffice (and I doubt that). I'm guessing we'd need to have new pages/sections for: User Page policies, Fanstuff wiki standards, and maybe a FAQ or something. On a related note HRWiki:About needs to be updated since the forum links to it, and I am not familiar with the forum enough to know what information should go there either. --Stux 17:46, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Deleting account?
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this, but I couldn't think of any other place. I have decided to leave the Wiki for personal reasons. How can I delete my account? Coveredinharmony 02:23, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- We don't delete accounts under normal circumstances. Just leave it inactive and it'll be waiting for you if you ever return. — It's dot com 02:26, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. Thank you. CoveredinSuudzu 14:06, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Help Page?
If you go to this subpage, you will see that I've created a new page, with help for ParserFunctions. Parserfunctions are used all over the place on this wiki, yet not many users know how to use them. I've created a help page for it, and I propose it be moved to the HElp namespace and linked to from here. The Goblin!! 07:07, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- At a glance, it looks to me like it'd be very helpful to have in the help namespace — let me have a closer look and get back to you... Trey56 07:22, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I looked through it carefully — it's very good! I made several minor changes and moved it to Help:ParserFunctions. Nice work! Trey56 00:16, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Forum page is missing?
I've been waiting for the 1 page to finish upgrading. Now it has finally finished... until a few minutes later when it changed to a "404 Not Found" page for some reason. To me, when something happens like that, that means it's never coming back; it's gone for good. What's up? MHarrington 03:47, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- 'Twas just a hiccup. Everything is fine. Nothing is ruined. — It's dot com 08:33, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
