I find myself perfectly baffled by the pipe in the "Making out" link. I've tried typing <code><nowiki>[[Making out]]</nowiki></code> into pages like [[User:SRMX12|my userpage]] and [[HRWiki:Sandbox|the Sandbox]] and clicking "Show preview", and the link always directs to the [[Making Out]] running gag page (see the title of this post for a great example). Yet, when I try to type the ''exact'' same link in [[The Virus|this page]] and some other pages and showing preview, it directs to the [[making out|sbemail page]]. What is going on here? Can somebody explain this? I'm reasonably sure I'm not crazy. {{User:SRMX12/sig}} 03:52, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Ding! The Virus is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute.

What's with all the it(they)'s ???

I'm not sure. I believe the viruses multiply, but then I think it would just be easier to put "they," right? I dunno. Some reason obviously, though -- Homestar Runner

I just moved the page to "The Virus", removed all those "(es)" and "(they)" things, and changed all the links to reflect this. I never really understood the whole "The Virus(es)" thing. And the page was pretty hard to read like that. -- Tom 12:21, 5 Feb 2005 (MST)

Should this page really be going on about things like "it made the floppy disk only appear to disappear, in reality it took it"? That strikes me as pretty dang cheesy. If we won't tolerate that on the virus page, why here? --Shadow Hog 21:47, 7 Mar 2005 (MST)

  • I really didn't like this page for the same reason Shadow Hog mentioned. Stuff like "in reality it took the floppy disk container" and speaking of a computer virus as if it were sentient do not make much sense to me. I rewrote the whole thing, but I'm not convinced it should exist at all, since it's basically just reproducing the virus and Main Page 22 pages. Maybe the section on "Harmful Effects of the Virus" could be removed and replaced with links to those two pages?
    • I like your idea, but when I tried to carry it out it got reverted twice.

Oh no! Look what the Virus did! - T.C.

Necessary?

ThiS page strikes me as really unnecessary. Why do we need an additional list of the effects of "The Virus" when those effects can be seen and read about on the individual pages for the email Virus and the Main Page?

Added

"saying 'Things were just about to start getting crazy-go-nuts!'".

I added this, someone else added the "from The Luau" part. RocketMasterZ 05:29, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

What? I said DELETED!

When I tried to edit this as written above, the reason given as to why it was reverted was that I killed the purpose. If this article seriously has no other purpose other than to repeat virus and Main Page 22, please teach me how to get administrators to delete the article. — 75.86.142.90 (Talk | contribs) 00:14, 24 February 2007 (left unsigned)

I'm assuming that you mean these changes. On the one hand, it seems like a good idea, as the information from these two long lists is already covered in the respective articles. On the other hand, you have to actually completely read those articles to get the information. If you only want to know what the effects of the virus are, then this is the only place to easily access this information. Loafing 00:25, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

By your logic, this whole wiki is redundant, seeing as we can just watch the cartoons. It's good to have things written out here without having to dig through transcripts. Dr. Clash 00:31, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I hope you people are aware that I was not the first to complain that the page might be useless. I believe every post here includes such a rant. I propose we put it to a vote. 20:02, 24 February 2007 (CTC)
Articles aren't deleted based on votes, they're based on consensus. Note also that if you're interested in becoming invloved in discussions for consensus, you may want to create an account, as the opinions of anonymous editors tend not to be given as much weight as those of logged-in users. Heimstern Läufer 02:41, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Almost every page on this wiki other than the toons is entirely redundant – they're just collations of information that's already on the toon pages organised in some way to make it easier to look for stuff. There's nothing on the page for, say, Senor Cardgage that you wouldn't already know if you watched all the toons with him in them... just like there's nothing here that you wouldn't know if you watched both the things with the virus in them. Now, I'm not saying we shouldn't delete this page... I'm ambivalent about it myself... I'm just saying that "it's redundant" alone isn't really a reasonable argument for deletion on this wiki, because almost everything here is. --phlip TC 02:48, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Interesting to know...

Real world viruses have a name, IE: MyDoom.B@MM or something along that (where the following is true: MyDoom.B is the 2nd variant of the mydoom virus, a real world virus) The Human Wedgie™ 05:41, 23 December 2007 (UTC) 05:41, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Making out

I find myself perfectly baffled by the pipe in the "Making out" link. I've tried typing [[Making out]] into pages like my userpage and the Sandbox and clicking "Show preview", and the link always directs to the Making Out running gag page (see the title of this post for a great example). Yet, when I try to type the exact same link in this page and some other pages and showing preview, it directs to the sbemail page. What is going on here? Can somebody explain this?
