About Me

KieferSkunk
Hi there! My name is KieferSkunk. I live in the Seattle area, I am a software development engineer in test (SDET) at Microsoft, and I am also a fan of homestarrunner.com. If you're curious to see more about me, check out my website and my LiveJournal. I am also signed up at Wikipedia and Wiktionary.

I'm Back!

(03/27/06) I'm back from my wedding and honeymoon! I am now a married man! And I'm back to the Wiki, to be wiki-awesome! Or however you say that...

We had a great time. :) Anyone interested in reading about it is invited to visit my LiveJournal and my wife's LJ - she even posted pictures!

(07/02/06) And I'm back again! This time, I was on a business trip to Asia - specifically Taiwan, China and Malaysia, for the MEDC 2006 World Tour. Again, I had a great time, but I'm glad to be back home - being gone for two whole weeks from a new marriage and a new home can be really hard on a man. :P

The Many Things I Have Been Called At Fatburger

Fatburger is a chain of hamburger joints in the western United States, and I go to one in my area on a fairly regular basis. I almost always order my food to go, so they always ask me for a name to put on the receipt. I usually identify myself as "Kiefer" (and sometimes spell it for them), and they ALWAYS get it wrong. Here's my running list of mispellings so far:

  • KIFER
  • KEFER
  • KIFFER
  • KEFFER
  • KIPHER
  • CIPHER
  • KLEEFER
  • KILROY
  • STEVEN
  • KIBURT
  • KLIFERT
  • TIFER
  • HEFER
  • KINBER
  • KEVER
  • KEYFER
  • JEFFREY (Jamba Juice)

On Friday, April 14th, 2006, the Fatburger I normally go to actually GOT IT RIGHT! This time, a completely different person took my order, and he actually asked me to spell my name for him, twice. I'm impressed. :) Ironically, though, the lady who handed me my order pronounced my name "Kye-fer" - a common mistake. (It's correctly pronounced "Kee-fer".)

I'm a Gamer Geek!

I am an avid gamer, and aside from my favorite Homestar Runner games, I have some distinct favorites. Here are my current faves:

  • Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (Xbox 360)
  • Hexic HD (Xbox 360)
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Xbox 360)
  • Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)
  • Katamari Damacy (PS2)
  • We Love Katamari (PS2)
  • Rez (PS2)
  • Lumines (PSP)
  • iSketch (Web)
  • Hoyle Games (Web)
  • Cosmic Encounter (board game)
  • Robo Rally (board game)
  • UNO (card game)

What Am I Doing Here?

How I found Homestar Runner

Well, see, I used to participate actively in a forum dedicated to DDR and other music games, and one day a random link was posted to Everybody to the Limit. I watched the toon and thought it was rather amusing, so I browsed through the rest of the website for a while. It quickly ended up in my Favorites, and now I visit the site nearly every day to look for updates. At the time I started watching the website, island was the most recent Strong Bad Email.

My involvement with the Wiki

I had been thinking it would be neat to have a place to catalog all the various inside references and parodies in the Homestar Runner universe, so I was delighted when I accidentally discovered this Wiki in September 2005. I decided to join right away, but like many Wiki'ers, I got off to a bit of a shaky start. But since then, I believe I've earned the respect of the HRWiki community, and I enjoy helping newcomers whenever and wherever I can.

I frequently do gnome-type stuff, making minor changes, fixes and updates to many pages, participating in STUFF discussions, reverting bad or redundant edits, etc. I also make the occasional major contribution in the form of large-scale transcript fixes, article rewrites, fact-checking, formatting, fixing redirects, etc. I've written a couple of articles from scratch (most notably Crap), but most of the time I'm helping out with existing articles.

The fluoride sting

In addition to editing articles, I am also a member of the Recent Changes Patrol and the Welcoming Committee, and I have helped to revert large-scale vandalism brought on by the NSMC and Dr. Who vandals. Someday, I would enjoy becoming a sysop here - whenever that time may come. :)

Defender of the Wiki

Even in the midst of the blitzkreig of trollbotting on the night of November 11, 2005, KieferSkunk had his wits about him. Along with a host of other stout-hearted users he became a first responder, reverting before the insolent foe had even completed his ill-fated career. For promptitude of the first degree, this barnstar is hereby awarded. —AbdiViklas 08:21, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
  • I assisted in mass reverts of vandalism again on February 9th, 2006, in response to the "Dr. Who" vandal. In the process, this User Page was vandalized twice.

In Case You're Wondering Why I'm Not Here So Much

As I mentioned above, I work at Microsoft full-time, and in addition, I'm currently trying to buy a house and get out of a bad situation with our landlord. All of this takes up most of my time, so I don't have as much time for the Wiki now as I have in the past. As such, most of my edits these days are limited to simple gnome-type stuff, like transcript fixes and the like. Sorry I'm not participating all that much.

  • Internet Slang — Assisted in creation of page, moved it from Leetspeak, fixed redirects
  • Marzipan's Answering Machine:
    • Lots of redirect fixes in x.0 update
    • Created "People Who've Called Marzipan" list.

  • Big Knives — Rewrote the intro and organized the references so that it's more generally about Big Knives, rather than one specific Big Knife. Renamed to Big Knives, fixed redirects.
  • Aztecs — Renamed from "The Aztec" - the article is about the Aztec civilization, not a single member of that race.
  • Pants — Renamed from "Homestar's Pants" - added many non-Homestar-specific references.
  • Swears — Rewrote and reformatted most of the page.

Toons

My favorite Toons are Strong Bad Sings, Everybody to the Limit, Senor Mortgage and Under Construction. I also enjoyed First Time Here? (who can forget "It's Dot Com!"? :)).

Strong Bad Emails

Games

I love retro-gaming references - particularly those in video games, as they remind me of my days growing up with games just like those. In general, I really like how Homestarrunner.com tends to keep with the spirit of the 80's and around that time period, without seeming old and out-of-date. My favorite games on the site are Population: Tire, Stinkoman 20X6 and Peasant's Quest, though I like all of them to some extent.

Quotes

I see that people are posting their favorite quotes from the site, so I figured I'd post mine as well:

Guestbook

Heya Marzi! Thanks for originally suggesting it, but it seems guestbooks in general have been cluttering up Recent Changes and are annoying much of the "staff" here at the Wiki, so I'm voicing my support for ending the practice by having removed my guestbook.

To everyone who signed my guestbook, thanks! But please don't try to start a new one here.
