[edit] The name

I called it Caffeinated Strong Sad because of the email caffeine, but as far as we know, the ones in boring (really) and secret identity caused be caused from things other then caffeine. Can anyone suggest a better name? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:53, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it was caffeine every time, but how about Hyperactive Strong Sad? — Lapper (talk) 18:54, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
That makes a little more sense about the secret identity deal (see my comment here), since it better relates to that email. teeeffoh! 18:56, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
I think we should go ahead and assume the second two are from something other than caffeine (aliens and stress over improper word usage, respectively). I also suggest "Hyperactive". — It's dot com 18:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
At first I opposed Hyperactive as being a serious condition, but now that I checked, I see it's not used as a medical term. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 19:02, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

The page has been moved to the suggested more appropriate title. — Lapper (talk) 19:04, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Let's not forget that the Sketchbook called him "Caffeinated Strong Sad." --Sam Goldfish 22:14, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
They called it "caffeinated," and therefore we need to, as opposed to establishing another false fanwank, and feeding the readers false information so they can go around thinking it's his "hyperactive" power-up. I like to change it, change it. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
As J L Picard would say, "Make it so." Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 08:52, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Okay, you both know that discussion was almost six weeks ago, right? We made the decision to move the page here because "caffeinated" no longer fit. — It's dot com 09:00, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
{edit conflict} Hold on a bit, folks. It was previously decided to call him Hyperactive Strong Bad because it appears that his behaviour is not always the result of caffeine. Specifically, he appears in this state because of the repeated use of "pseudoname" instead of "pseudonym" in secret identity, saying, "-Nym! It's pseudonym! I can't take it anymore!" Since consensus was then established to call him "Hyperactive Strong Sad", please don't change it unless and until you get consensus to do so. And in case you're wondering, I support keeping it as it is. Heimstern Läufer 09:02, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
I don't care what the page is called, I was just encouraging the poster to be bold. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:03, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Don't be bold in the face of consensus, though. -- Tom 09:11, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
I'll be bold and change it right now. As S. Bad once said, "Crap!" Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
We voted to keep it as Hyperactive, and you still change it. Why do you do this? SaltyTalk! 02:42, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
I concur with hyperactive. Bluebry 02:53, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm actually in the Caffeinated camp on this one. I firmly believe that whatever TBC choose to call him, even if it's only mentioned in one isolated incident and it makes no logical sense whatsoever, it is our duty as a definitive H*R encyclopedia to call it by that name. Anything else seems just plain wrong to me. Has Matt? (talk) 03:12, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Then check out my new gameplay, I mean ad campaign!
Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
Hear, hear! (Whatever the heck that means.) Has Matt? (talk) 03:14, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Wait, he actually was called Cafeinated Strong Sad on something on Bluebry 03:19, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Yep, in the Sketchbook. Has Matt? (talk) 03:22, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Keep in mind that that was two years ago, and the sketchbook was for the email caffeine. Since then, they have reused the effect in situations where he is probably not actually on caffeine, thus a change of the page title was appropriate. — It's dot com 03:26, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
EDIT CONFLICT'D!!!: Well, he was hyperactive from the caffeine in caffeine, that and sketchbook is mid-'04. Many updates to the site have happened since then, but anyways, we don't know in those other emails that he drank caffeine (not caffeine). He passed out after that, so the experience might make him want to not drink caffeine anymore. But, we never saw his use of caffeine in the other emails (not caffeine). Bluebry 03:30, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

The title should remain at "Hyperactive", but as a compromise there's no reason we can't list both "Hyperactive" and "Caffeinated" in the first line of the article, which is what I just did. — It's dot com 03:51, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Works for me. -- Tom 03:53, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Not for me. I think saying that he is always caffeinated in this state is unknown. Bluebry 04:37, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh, that way? Yeah, it works for me. Bluebry 04:38, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
No, that's fanwank and it's gonna be Caffeinated Strong Sad. And I'm bringing my ad campaign back.
{Image:Fanwank is Wacko.png removed due to excess of personal images by Darth Katana X}
Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
No, it's not fanwank. Fanwank does not exist (or, at least not on But I understand the point, and this is not a fan-created name thing. It's just do we have evidence that Strong Sad was caffeiated all three times? Only once do we know he was caffeinated. And, as I said, he could be afraid of caffeine after the faint. It would most likely be a health risk to himself, and as being just about the smartest character on, he would know that. Bluebry 16:22, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Do we have evidence he wasn't caffeinated all three times? I know, it's an age-old argument, but I had to bring it up. Assuming he wasn't caffeinated all three times is just as much speculation as assuming he was. Therefore, I feel that speculating (key word, "speculating") on whether he was caffeinated or not shouldn't be a big factor in deciding what to name this article. Has Matt? (talk) 21:39, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, there's no way to say he was or was not on caffeine those other times. But we can say he was hyperactive. So let's leave it at that. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 21:45, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Another thing that I thought might deserve mention. The description for caffeine on Podstar Runner reads "Strong Sad gets caffeinated." (emphasis mine) So "caffeinated" seems to be their preferred term for this version of S2. Has Matt? (talk) 19:52, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
Um, any references to "caffeine" or "caffeinated" in relaton to the email caffeine prove nothing. Of course he's caffeinated in that email. That's the whole premise. Now, if they called him "caffeinated" in relation to secret identity, then we'd be onto something. But as it is, in that email Strong Sad just acts in a similar, hyperactive way, but we can't know whether it was due to any particular substance. As Qermaq remarked, we can say without speculation that he was hyperactive; hence, the name. — It's dot com 20:11, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

All right, for those of you who don't know what fanwank is; checkiddy check, Wikipedia check! Checkiddy check, Wikipedia check! It's "fan" plus "wankery," look them both up. Hope that helps. Now that that's out of the way, it simply has to be "caffeinated." If it's not, then that's sending the message that Homestar Runner Wiki prefers the unofficial name created by one fan who doesn't like the real name (which, evidentally, is true). You guys are making it as if "hyperactive" is what's it's called, downright insinuating it's like his "power-up" so to speak, and on top of that, you guys made a page called "The Bug," which is an unofficial name for a character who shouldn't even count as a character! Now there's gonna be Other Character Email The Bug at Fanstuff Wiki? And Visor Robot? When's that madness gonna end? I think I've said enough. Fanwank is Wacko if You're a Wiki™. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)

"Hyperactive" is an English word which describes a pattern of behavior. Thus, it is appropriate for this page. While Strong Sad was at one time "caffeinated" there's no reason at all to assume he was each time he behaved hyperactively. THAT'S the reason you keep avoiding. Calling this "Hyperactive" is no more a "fanwank" than referring to "Strong Bad Smiling" if it's revealed he tends to favor the word "grin" over "smile".
In fact, i'd argue it's a fanwank to use the caffeinated name merely because it was in the sketchbook, in the face of logic dictating otherwise. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:51, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
Darth Katana X, this whole wiki is fanwork. All the summaries, descriptions, all that stuff not taken directly from the website is technically "fanwork", because we're writing it and not TBC. So does giving an unnamed variation a name based on what we know such a bad thing? Not when you think about it. - Joshua 04:07, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit conflict] Um, maybe Strong Sad isn't the only one who needs to lay off the caffeine. First of all, his name isn't Caffeinated Strong Sad, Hyperactive Strong Sad, or any other nonsense. It's just Strong Sad. Caffeinated and hyperactive are just adjectives describing his mental state. For a while, caffeinated worked fine, but then they started using the same effect when he is more than likely not under the influence of caffeine. At that time, we needed a new adjective, so we changed the name of this article, but not the character. — It's dot com 04:11, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
I read that Wikipedia page, and the term certainly doesn't apply here. 1, there's no continuity error here that we're "fixing". B, I don't think anyone here considers the "hyperactive" prefix to be canon. III, I don't consider the "caffinated" adjective to be canon either – the sketchbook titles are only there to be descriptive, just see Visor Robot. Plus, the term rubs up against my vulgarity meter a bit... I'd personally prefer if you used a term that was a bit more genteel... --phlip TC 04:56, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
When I first created the page, I did named it "Caffeinated Strong Sad" becasue I thought that hyperactive is a condition like ADD, but then I read the actuall dictionary defenition: "Having behavior characterized by overactivity." I think this summerize it all. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:35, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
I used the word "fanwank" because it's a more insulting word for fanon, but since it's somehow offensive, I'll refrain from using it. Darth Katana X offends everybody. Uh, yeah, and there's no proof that he wasn't caffeinated the last time, and it would be as official as we can get to just call it "caffeinated," what else would've made him like that, anyway? The whole thing's an excuse. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
You're not listening to a thing we're saying, are you? -_- Just repeating yourself... - Joshua 05:55, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

*sigh* I still think that Caffeinated Strong Sad is the more correct title, but at this point I really have no choice but to just give up and move on. After hearing all of you's guys' points, I've realized that although my opinion about the right title is still the same, having it stay as Hyperactive isn't so bad after all and actually makes sense when you think about it. There really is no point in swimming against the current anymore. Though my thoughts on this title will forever remain unchanged, I have realized that I must accept the loss and move on. So, moving on.
Has Matt? (talk) 00:50, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
P.S. Now I know how Jay must have felt about the Family Guy reference.
P.P.S. I sure said "move on" a lot, didn't I?
Bluebry 00:53, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
I just realized that is isn't my problem if the wiki prefers using the fan-made names. I guess fans prefer what they made up themselves. Do whatever. It would be nice if someone reworded the article to make it sounds less like total fanon, and make it sound less annoying (no offense to whoever wrote it). Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
Have you even read the article now? "Hyperactive Strong Sad (or Caffeinated Strong Sad) is the result of a suggestion sent in by Justin from Murfreesboro in the Strong Bad Email caffeine..." And non taken. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 10:00, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Awesome. The fanwank (pardon my French, however that's profane) is now destroyed. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
If only you listened earlier. Dot com edited the page to reflect the two names five days ago. Long before you started arguing and mentioning "fanwank". Next time, avoid all the trouble and read the article before starting to protest. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 03:19, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Cut me some slack, man, it isn't like you haven't done anything like that sometime in your life, online or off. Thanks for the advice, though. Hopefully, after I post this I won't look back at the page just to see it's been reverted to fanon. Reverted to Fanon? Sounds like a Joy Electric song. "No, no, no / we've been reverted to fanon again / we're surrounded by our predators / no, no, no / we've been reverted to fanon again / simply fanon." Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)
Darth, I did do mistakes like that in my life, but it doesn't mean it's ok for me to look the other way when someone else's making them. It's nothing personal or anytihng like that. I'm just that kind of guy. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 03:53, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, really. Hopefully, my glories will shine through my mistakes, and Sandoval-san would say. "Mistakes & Glories! Down in the ground, but they were cut down! Mistakes & Glories! Death doesn't lie and it won't be denied! Mistakes & Glories! We answer the call but some heroes must fall! Mistakes & Glories! Giving all you can give when your dying to live!" One of my favorite songs. Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif) PS — you work for us.

[edit] Question?

And when did they say that, Mr. "DeFender"????

My autism is kicking in right now and it isn't helping much! D:<

See Quote of The Week. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 00:13, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Sam~ I meant the legs thing. And the part in the beginning, when Hyperactive Strong Sad is first seen. "I feel great. I feel great. I feel great. I feel bad. I DON'T EVEN WATCH FOOTBALL." I NEVER heard him say football in that sentence, nor did I hear him say "legs" when he said "I can't remember my 'LEGS'."
