[edit] Bad Orthography?

You guys spelt it wrong. :(

How should it be spelt? We will fix it - Dr Haggis - Talk 10:46, 1 Dec 2004 (MST)
My thoughts on spelling: There is a Beauregard Parish in Louisiana, and Toregard seems to be a Swedish last name. "Doregard" looks to me like the first syllable should sound like "door", whereas "Deauregard" looks like the first syllable should sound like "dough". It sounds like people in lackey pronounce the first syllable as "dough". Mister Mister 19:26, 5 Dec 2004 (MST)

[edit] Deauregard vs. Doreauxgard

For those of you wondering what happened to "Deauregard", much less "Doregard", you can rest assured that we finally have the official say on the TBC-sanctioned spelling of our favorite cantaloupe's name: If you take a look at weeklies.xml (you may have to go to View > Source in your browser to avoid the XML error) and scroll down toward the bottom of the list of character names, you'll see quite clearly the name "Doreauxgard". — InterruptorJones[[]]

This is so cool. Good work Jones. Remember when some people thought it started with a "T"? Wow, those were the days. -- Tom 18:19, 17 Jan 2005 (MST)
That list raises a further question. Who's 1up? -- Cyrius 19:50, 17 Jan 2005 (MST)
"1up" is 20X6 Homestar, whose real name is rumored to be 1-Up ExtraMan (or similar). — InterruptorJones[[]] 20:18, 17 Jan 2005 (MST)
I suspected as much, given his absence from the list. I'll go make a note over on that page's talk page for future reference. -- Cyrius 20:41, 17 Jan 2005 (MST)
But now an actual video appearance has spelled it “Deauregard”. -174.62.238.201 13:57, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
Yes, but an official video also used the spelling "Homerun Hitter Customes and Broducts". It could have been a gag. Or they forgot to check the Wiki for the name of the character and messed up. Eenh. -- 75.39.111.42 15:00, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
The "Homerun Hitter" example isn't a great comparison, since that one was clearly intentional. Anyway, a Google search for "Doreauxgard" brings up pretty much only Homestar stuff, but a search for "Deauregard" brings up actual people, since it's apparently a real last name. So it's equally likely that either of them could be the "wrong" one. (Also, I have a theory that the QOTW XML file wasn't written by the Chaps, so it's possible he just guessed the name wrong.) I'm kinda neutral about the rename. I guess I'm leaning more toward keeping "Doreauxgard", just because that's what I'm used to (which is generally a pretty terrible way to make decisions, but the names are pretty similar anyway, so it doesn't matter all that much). Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 19:31, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
That’s a good point that the weekly xml is not necessarily from TBC. I second the fact that Deauregard is an actual name (and has been spelled that way in an official toon). -107.77.76.21 23:40, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
Don't forget that The Brothers Chaps spelled it "Doreauxgard" as recently as last year in the YouTube description of lackey (I assume it's they who write the descriptions). I'm not sure what's going on in The Actions You Can Do, but I don't think the discrepancy is intentional. We definitely shouldn't rush to rename before we know more. SRMX12 (talk) 20:54, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
Okay, I didn't know about that description. I guess that makes it 2 Doreauxgards to 1 Deauregard. The Doreauxgards win! Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 20:57, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

[edit] door-oh-gard

What's wrong with adding the correct pronunciation for Doreauxgard's name in the article? --Trogga 14:01, 12 Feb 2005 (MST)

Well, for one, it's debatable. I hear "Doe-roe-gard" or "Doe-ruh-gard" myself. --Jay 14:02, 12 Feb 2005 (MST)

[edit] Actual Puppet

Does anyone have a picture of the actual puppet of Doreauxgard? --Sam Goldfish 00:32, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I wish I did. The interview where it was shown is lost inside the Internet or some remote hard drive. —BazookaJoe 01:08, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Character Basis

This character could be based on Jack Benny's Valet Rochester from back in the days of black and white movies. Just a feeling/thought I had when I saw him the first time. — 71.66.109.202 (Talk | contribs) 2:41, 15 October 2006 (left unsigned)

Jack Benny's valet (played by Eddie Anderson) was a talking cantaloupe with a pencil-drawn face a pencil jabbed through him? But seriously, you may be on to something. Is there anything we can use to compare? -- Tom 02:51, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Name

Doreauxgard's name may come from the Muppet Beauregard. Should we put that on there? --Jangles5150 22:29, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] puppet?

His puppet version that can talk sounds a lot like Blue Laser Commander.`--Fangoriously 01:14, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

That is to be expected with some of the characters, as there's really only one man doing the voices...you can't expect all of them to sound different (There's only so many cardboard tubes). DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 05:00, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
