The sculptor's oeuvre

Rick Van Velsor is an industrial designer who sculpted several toys and figures for Homestar Runner.

His first contribution was several figurines of the main characters. As described by The Brothers Chaps, he emailed them unprompted with mockups of the figurines and later flew them out to his New York studio to personally approve the designs. As he already had production contacts in China, all the Brothers had to do was say "hey, looks great" before they were made. These figures were produced under cooperation with Van Velsor's company Big Bang Industrial Evolution, Inc.

During the production of Trogdor!! The Board Game, the brothers again worked with Van Velsor for the game's miniature pieces (after exploring 3D printing or wooden meeples as other options). Although Van Velsor had largely stopped toy sculpting by the time the Brothers Chaps reached out to him to produce the game pieces, he enjoyed returning to make the new figurines.
