Welcome to Joey's talk page. This is not the general help desk of the Wiki. If you need help, go to the FAQ page or visit the forum and use the help desk there. If you absolutely need an answer from me or if you have comments, feel free to leave them below.
I've recently created a talk archive for old comment threads. If you came here looking for an old conversation, be sure to check there. Thanks.
If you leave a support question here and it disappears, look for it in the FAQ or the FAQ talk page.

Duplication of fun facts (references and fast forwards)
I look at bottom 10 and I note that it includes the note of the reference to english paper, the mouth diagram. I then look at english paper, and under Fast Forward is the same fact. I look at boring (really) and see that it notes the reference to lunch special, 'sbu'. But then, I look at lunch special and it's got something to that effect under Fast Forward. This, to me, is rather unnecessary and comes off as unprofessional. I don't deny the usefulness of the Fast Forward section, but excluding those which really belong under Fast Forward, like "The Cheat is Not Dead would later appear on the Strong Bad Sings CD" or "Stinkoman would later become the name of a real character", one must decide whether we have two copies of EVERY Fun Fact or whether we only have one copy of each. Of course, it's obvious that the latter is the preferable choice. As such, not only is the duplication of Fun Facts unnecessary via Fast Forward, but it's also deviation from standard form, another sloppy practice. If some manner of reform could be made, such would make the Fun Facts a little more easy to sort through. Thanks, Suicune64 23:04, 2 Aug 2005 (UTC).
- The Fast Forward section of the standards say that "a fact in the Fast Forward category is something of significance in the toon that is re-used later on." If you don't think a fact is significant enough, bring it up on the respective talk page. Also, Joey might not be the best person to discuss this matter with. You might want to try Jay, who came up with the fun fact subcategories, or It's dot com, our fun fact guru. -- Tom 23:37, 2 Aug 2005 (UTC)
What's unprofessional about a forward reference and a backward reference? They're not on the same page. How do we know which one a particular user will see first? Isn't it in the interest of any wiki to have more links, not fewer? — It's dot com 23:49, 2 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- In my opinion, it's best to avoid clutter. And, as well, as I said, consistent policy strikes me as optimal. Also, some of these are not that significant. Taking the sbu example, for one. If Sbu were to become, say, the inspiration for a song later, then the forwards reference indeed fits the bill of some significance. But I disagree in the current instance. Well, failing that, I guess I can follow that advice, Tom... namely to dispute each individual Fun Fact. Darn. Well, I've got a bit of work tomorrow, then. Suicune64 02:04, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- And concerning my choice of users to ask, I was asking Joey because it would seem to be a matter of policy. And, as well, I wasn't sure at the time, so I knew at least by asking Joey, if he was not the right person, he would definitely be able to direct me to the right person.
- Before you flood the STUFF page, why not start at discussion at the standards talk page? Or do a test case. Speaking to your point, I really don't see how one extra line is all that much clutter. And in the case of "sbu", it's a made-up nonword, so I think the reference is justified. — It's dot com 03:47, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- I found this to be a losing battle, some time before I worked out the Fun Facts subcategories. Originally, I thought the same thing of Forward References; that they were largely unnecessary. No one agreed. So, although I'm not terribly fond of the concept, when I split the Fun Facts, I added a subcategory specifically for forward references. However, the forward references are still split from the others. If you make a forward reference in the Inside References subcategory, expect a quick DELETED!! --Jay (Gobble) 03:52, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry I didn't see this sooner, Suicune (I'm not sure how I missed such a large thread on my talk page), but it looks like this already came to a sort of conclusion. I would agree with you about the duplication, but, as Jay has pointed out, it would take a massive grassroots uprising to change things. As already suggested, the best place to bring this up would be the standards talk page. Good luck. —

Unneeded S's?
I am thinking of making a page called "Unneeded S's" To you think this page will be useful? -- TotalSpaceshipGirl3
- Well, off the top of my head it doesn't sound useful at all. Maybe if you explain it a little more I'll get what you're trying to do. Bottom line is I don't decide what's best for the wiki, the community does. You may want to post this question in a more public place like the talk page for whatever category you think "Unneeded S's" should belong to. —

Did you get my forum registration form yet? -Kinsey
- the same. Kinsey. -Kinsey
Where has Stu been?
Where has Stu been? Maybe this is a stupid question, but he hasn't been on the wiki ever since we changed the software. Maybe you know where he is? Happy 20:00, 13 Aug 2005 (EST)
- Maybe I should let Stu answer this himself, but the simple answer is he prefers to spend his time on the forum. He's also been through some tough medical stuff this year, he's close to finishing his bachelor's degree, and he's working a couple jobs. I think he's just real busy. I'll let him know you were thinking about him, though. —
Joey (talk·edits) 03:17, 15 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- As Joey has so accurately put, I have been busy. Although, that is a bit of an understatement. I currently work 3 part-time jobs, have a wife, play Everquest 2, and I am about to start up school (13 hours of class... so roughly 25-30 hours of homework per week). To top it all off, I have had some medical problems. Stuff that I don't really want to go into (for the sake of your lunch).
- When we switched over to the new wiki software I was right in the thick of everything. I just haven't taken the time to sit down and learn all of the new tricks that mediawiki has to offer. (As you can see, I have no clue what I am really doing here :)
- I suppose I'll stop taking up space on Joey's page. Thanks for the concern though. It's nice to know that people care about me :) Stu
Joey, can you drop me a line?
I've been interested in contributing to the wiki project, but e-mails I've sent you over the last couple of months have gone unanswered. Seeing as how this is kind of important, let's try reaching you on your talk page. Can you send an e-mail to marc@homestarrunner.net when you've read this? We'll figure out a day/time that will work for a phone call, and take it from there. Thanks in advance, :: marc @ 07:48, 17 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks, Joey! :: marc @ 08:05, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)
the right person
You seem like the right person to say this to. I read what you said about someone you know meeting and talking with the brother chaps, and it may sound dumb, but my goal in life is to meet the Brother chaps. (lol) do you know how i can acomplish this? I do have a sister that lives about an hour from atlanta. just wanted to point that out. Thanks! --Martin925 04:54, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I've never met them myself, so unfortunately I'm not real qualified to give advice. Tom met them at a show they did at NYU. They probably do shows in Atlanta all the time, so if you can get out there that's probably your best chance. Good luck. —

Hosting
Hi Joey, in case you didn't see it, I've made a suggestion at HRWiki talk:Donations. Angela 20:56, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I understand your wishes to stay independent. Just let me know if there's any way we can help in future though. Angela 05:53, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Blockquotes
Hey Joey,I need help on the fanstuff wiki. I can't make a blockquote with Coach Z's reflection for OCE Coach Z. Can you help me? My name on the Fanstuff wiki is still the same. --H*R 700
- Have you studied the
blockquote.email
style at MediaWiki:Monobook.css? It isn't complicated, but you'll have to convince a sysop on the fanstuff wiki to add a custom one for you. Only sysops can edit that file. Best of luck. —Joey (talk·edits) 15:15, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Selective External Links
Hi Joey, I was just wondering why the 'external links' sidebar box keeps coming and going. Right as I type this now, there's no box there for external links. But on my userpage it is there. But on the Main Page it's gone again. Is this supposed to happen? Am I just going nuts? Thanks. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 12:29, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Bring this to Tom's attention. He installed a new version of the wiki yesterday. —BazookaJoe 13:45, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Troll Names
Joey this is bad I went on the user list trying to find suicune64 and saw a lot of bad user names delete these please. [such as threats sex terms vulgar slang and neo nazi stuff]. The former user Vile.exe
- There's a good chance that most of them have already been blocked, but I'm sorry to say that they won't be leaving the User List any time soon. --Jay (Gobble) 16:48, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Jay, I can actually delete those names (and so can the other four developer admins). I'll take a look and see if I can find most of them today. EDIT: I think I found all of them. The worst ones all started with exclamation points, but I found a few other names that contained swears. Thanks for the heads up from that first user (maybe sign your posts in the future so we know who you are). —
