What is the relevance of this page? I just don't understand why the underscores are important. Someone please explain. I R F 18:25, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Note that ingeneral, we can use internal links to get to youtube videos ([[youtube:somevideoid]]) however, mediawiki filters out underscores as described, the result being that, for example, [[youtube:_Z-C8NU3SVM]] produces an invalid link. — Defender1031*Talk 18:31, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

There are issues with other interwiki links as well. Strong Bad replied to a Twitter user whose name started with an underscore, and the link didn't work when I tried to add it to User:Purple Wrench/sandbox. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 03:13, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

There have been other instances since. Recently I've been marking new ones with comments that say "leading/trailing underscore breaks interwiki link", so they'll turn up in searches. Lira (talk) 15:59, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
