Don't sell yourself short

Hi there. I'm the user that discovered the hidden alternate Strong Bad drawings in the YouTube version of That Time of Year. I don't blame you for making a mistake like that, especially if it's your first contribution. I've made tons of mistakes here on the Wiki. Some of them are exactly like that. Some have actually been much worse. Everyone here makes mistakes, even (one might say especially) the users who improve the Wiki the most. As long as the mistakes are not of bad intent and are reversible, they are... well... reversible. So I'm glad you realized your mistake, but now it's been fixed, so you can move on and make some constructive edits.

Also, it appears no one personally welcomed you to the Wiki, so consider this an unofficial welcome too! -- ■■   PURPLE  WRENCH   ■■ 22:34, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

"DON'T BE SO HARD ON YOURSELF!"
--The Knights Who Say Ni 06:02, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Welcome to the wiki

When you sign up for an account, a bot comes around and gives you some helpful information at the top of your talk page. You should read it; it may have answers to questions you might have about how to get in the swing of things. Thanks for your willingness to help! The Knights Who Say Ni 04:53, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Be bold, but know when not to be

Hey, thanks for your enthusiasm to help out. I just wanted to let you know that moving pages is generally not done until there is an established consensus to do so. Already, you've moved two pages without much discussion (one of those was without any discussion at all) which is generally discouraged by our standards on the topic. My main issue with moving Dangeresque 4 is that most computer keyboards don't come with a ÷ key, which would make that page less accessible. As for the Store, you started the discussion correctly, but then you went ahead and moved the page with no one other than yourself expressing any favorable interest towards that move (unless I'm misinterpreting what Purple Wrench said). Even you said that "it's one of the ... most important parts of the Homestar Runner website and system". This directly means that it's important for our wiki, and as such, we've been covering it since the days of ye olde wiki, so without a fairly large agreement, it probably should have been left alone until such time that we had such an agreement. So, keep up the good work editing. The Knights Who Say Ni 20:19, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Bah. I always come up shy and then go on power trips. Shows how much of a terrible person I am. But yeah, sorry about the moving stuff a bit too much. I can agree that I'm a bit bolder than I should be sometimes and often get myself in trouble. This is sadly not the first instance of occurring.:( - Catjaz63 20:27, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

"Explore"

When I saw that you said "I explore you", I did a double-take and had to check to make sure there was no second definition for the word "explore". It turns out there isn't.
Saying "I explore you" literally means you are looking over someone and discovering them. Which could be taken out of context in a matter of seconds.
You had the right idea, though; the correct word is "implore". That's right -- despite the subtle distinction between "explode" and "implode", the meaning in this case is totally different.

Unless... were you making a reference to Halloween Safety, implying that you were going back to creepin' and peepin' 'round Anonny's neighborhood? ...Because if you were, that's really clever. -- ■■   PURPLE  WRENCH   ■■ 12:57, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

I was typing implore! I'm not sure why I typed "I explore you". I guess being up at 7 AM gets your all up ons bad spellings. - Catjaz63 20:16, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
Ah, yes, that does happen a lot. Only now it sounds like Strong Bad should write "I explore you" on his chest with the Ab-Abber. I mean, he's just got the ladytypes situation down pat, but he'd probably say it was extra insurance...

Anyway, catch you on the flip side! Voooooo... *descends into a mine but stops halfway* Uhh, Catjaz, I think this elevator's broke. -- ■■   PURPLE  WRENCH   ■■ 02:09, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Wait, since when was your signature "Mining Wrench"!??!!? I'm confused. - Catjaz63 02:34, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Purple Wrench has several holidays coded in to his signature so that it will change with each one. Today is the day on The Cheat's fake ID. Now get upstairs...unh! and fix me some breakfast. The Knights Who Say Ni 04:45, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Suudsu? - Catjaz63 13:41, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Getting those sigs to work was one of the most bizarre and mystifying experiences I have ever had... while editing a wiki. If I had known that a Record Store Day toon was coming out, I might have made a different sig just for today. But in UTC time there's only 1.5 hours left in the day, so that's kinda pointless.
And Teh C gets suudsu every day, not just on his cheatday. No, for this we're going to have to do something a little special.
How about... SUUDSU À L'ORANGE? -- ■■   PURPLE  WRENCH   ■■ 22:37, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Signature

I hate to bite your style, but your signature has to fit inside a 180x20-pixel box. You can put one next to your signature to make sure it doesn't exceed the boundaries, like this. (It's fine if you only do that in preview.)
Catjaz63 Quit Bitin' my Style!
File:sigbox.png
As you can see, it's a bit too long right now. If you could fix that, that'd be awesome. The Knights Who Say Ni 20:32, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Catjaz Quit Bitin' my Style!
If you're not married to having the number 63 in your signature, it looks like taking it out would make the rest of it fit. Provided the page it's on isn't this talk page because the system doesn't let you link a page to itself. On the other hand, there are ways it can be coded so that it works differently than normal. Edit Summaries

Hi Catjaz63, I just wanted to drop a quick reminder about edit summaries. Some of your recent contributions lack edit summaries and these help other editors know at a glance what it is that your edits are changing. So please don't neglect them! Even when extremely concise they're still helpful. Thanks and Happy New Year! --Stux 21:38, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Hey there, Catjaz, just wanted to leave you another small note about edit summaries and let you know that summaries are for page histories first, and recent changes a distant second. This means that putting an edit summary like "Okay, it was actually an external link, but it used a template to link it." on an edit which has nothing to do with external links, and is responding to a different summary on a completely different page on the wiki ends up leaving future users viewing the page history wondering what you were talking about. It's nothing to beat yourself up over though, I just thought I ought to let you know to help you out for the future. Keep up the awesome work! — Defender1031*Talk 18:56, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

Real talk

Alright, since nobody in an appropriate position has taken the time to tell you this, let me give you a crash course.

  • Minor edits are minor. As in, one word maximum. Adding or removing an entire section is a major edit, and should be left as such. People don't check minor edits as often, because they assume that they won't change how the page reads. As a self-appointed member of the recent changes patrol, this should matter to you.
  • Don't contradict the admins. They've been very generous not to ban you for some of the things you've pulled. They are only human, yes, but they have the interests of the wiki at heart. If you disagree with them, take it up on the talk page, but once they've explained themselves, leave it.
  • If you insist on being part of the welcoming committee, be respectful to other users. ALLCAPS like "Characters in the books DO NOT count" comes across as hostile and self-important.

I don't care that you're an admin on ledditXD or anything else, you need to conduct yourself on this wiki. To those responsible for doing so, revert this when you see fit, but this point needed to be made.

I can understand your points and will try to them on this wiki; however, could I get some elaboration/examples on the second point? - Catjaz63 02:56, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
I am unable to find obvious examples of the second point, and acknowledge that I may have misinterpreted or misremembered earlier discussions when writing it. If such is the case, I apologize for making such an accusation. That said, as long as you take the other points to heart, that is all I could have asked for.
Anonny, it's a rather serious thing to suggest that a user has engaged in ban-worthy behaviour and then not be able to provide evidence thereof. I would caution you to be more circumspect in your approach to this. I'm also not really keen on the assertion "don't contradict the admins", as that's not in accordance with our policies. Open disagreement is allowed. There are certainly a few cases not to contradict an admin (e.g., admin tells a user "I don't intend to block you," and you say "YOU WILL BE BLOCKED!" on that very user's talk page? That would be a bad call.), but in general there's nothing wrong with expressing disagreement.
Catjaz, I do agree that the all caps "DO NOT" would have been better handled without shouting, and that it'd be better to use the minor edit function more sparingly. Not a huge deal, though, just a couple things to improve on.
So, let's all have fun and make an encyclopedia about dumb animal characters. Heimstern Läufer 03:57, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
This message struck me as incredibly odd. I had recently been thinking quite the opposite, namely that this Catjaz person is an okay guy, and has already been way too hard on himself. (Seriously, what's with all the edit summaries talking about how you're a terrible person, and the big notice on your user page?) Anyway, yes, you're new, you're a little inexperienced, and that inexperience is compounded by the fact that it's difficult to see how the wiki is supposed to function when it's not nearly as lively as it once was, but overall, you've been levelheaded and rational about most of the work you've done, haven't been antagonistic in any way, and have been doing an overall decent job most of the time. Basically, what I'm saying is "DON'T BE SO HARD ON YOURSELF MR. JAZSON!" — Defender1031*Talk 07:38, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
Oh, and one more thing. To the coward who posted the original message here: If you're so sure of yourself that you're going to leave such an obnoxious message for someone, at least post using your real account so we know who you are rather than hiding behind a proxy IP. — Defender1031*Talk 07:50, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

hi

wtc does 'in-a-pro-pro' mean 45.49.201.76 02:00, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Hey there! 'in-a-pro-pro' is a reference to the toon Halloween Safety and I misread what Google Dictionary said your word meant, so I reverted it thinking it was vandalism and the inputting of an inappropriate joke. I apologize if it came off as rude. Also, please refrain from using swear words or curse words on the HRWiki. Even acronyms. - Catjaz63 04:03, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
With the following exceptions: WTC (what the crap) and WTPF (what the pfargtl).
We couldn't survive without those. -- ■■   PURPLE  WRENCH   ■■ 04:31, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Other notes

Hi, Catjaz63! My name is Maudi Algabban, and I just want to say how SORRY I have been for making persistent vandalism and personal attacks/harassment on HRWiki.org, and I just want to say that I wanted to be unblocked from HRWiki.org . I've been waiting for 3½ years to be banned from HRWiki.org, but I just wanted to say that I put an interrogative complaint about WHY Strong Bad says "I thought you were still in Pyongyang", but the Brothers Chaps didn't want to talk to me about it, and they ignored me! I put the interrogative complaint on this website, but Phlip suddenly removed it from HRWiki.org, and I know that it's totally unfair! Please, return me back to HRWiki.org, and let me apologize all of you for what I did! Thank you! :'(

I like you!

...or at least I don't not dislike not you. Seriously dude, stop being so hard on yourself. You seem to constantly feel unappreciated, so let me clear that up by telling you that you're a pretty cool user who does pretty good wiki work. Keep it up. — Defender1031*Talk 13:07, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Yeah. You cool guy. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 17:39, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Silhouettes

Man, that word is annoying to spell. Anyway, thanks for your changes. I was going to move the article in a similar direction myself. Also, I propose a rename to "silhouetted characters". --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 20:02, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Or not, since one of the examples isn't of characters. Also, what do you think of this page? I'm not sure if I have something going or not. It's supposed to be distinct from characters dressed as other characters.--Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 20:10, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
I don't know; there haven't been many examples of characters poorly disguising themselves that don't automatically fall under Impersonations of Other Characters.
Also, I would suggest using a sandbox like "User:Broncotroll/Sandbox" like Gsddnjsadflsdn did, since it allows you to test multiple test articles and also is more ubiquitous. - Catjaz63 20:18, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Alright then. What about an article "Disguises" in general? That would be a lot more inclusive, but it could also overlap with Impersonations of Other Characters and possibly even Alter Egos. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 23:22, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
We already have Halloween Costumes and Other Costumes, which should cover all of this. I'm not sure why you guys are trying so hard to find a new page to create. — Defender1031*Talk 23:30, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
I wouldn't call it "trying so hard". You don't seriously think that no new pages will be created but the new toons, right? There's always more patterns to find. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 23:40, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
No, of course not. But usually those patterns present themselves naturally. This conversation seemed to me to be an attempt to create a new page for the sake of creating a new page. Forgive me if that assessment was incorrect. — Defender1031*Talk 23:46, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
