Wiki Related E-mails

If you wish to discuss wiki related matters, contact me via my talk page. I allow other editors to contact me via email only so that I can be contacted about off topic matters, or in the unlikely event that I need to be contacted about something that is not germane to a public discussion. Thanks.  Green Helmet 20:36, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Homestar Runner E-mails

A few notes regarding your recent changes to this page.

1) It is never acceptable to post someone's personal e-mail address in a public venue without their explicit consent. In this case, I doubt the e-mail address that was listed really was that person's personal address, so inaccurately listing it as such wasn't invasive after all, but still inaccurate and therefore not appropriate.

2) It is dubious whether the details of the MX records and related DNS information of homestarrunner.com should be documented in this knowledge base. In any case, the information you listed on the page was again inaccurate. That domain is not a secret part of the site. In fact it doesn't even respond to HTTP requests. It's part of their mail system.

3) To reiterate what I already mentioned on the talk page of the article, it's not in the purview of this knowledge base to provide a comprehensive contact sheet for all things homestarrunner.com. That is their business. Our mission is to document what they do put out there.

I understand you put work into the page, and I appreciate your effort on that. However, there was a notice at the top of the page indicating the probable transience of the page. Some of the information you added to the page should be documented, but not there. For example, the email addresses found on Thorax Corps' website would be appropriately listed in the corresponding articles for the pages of that site. Please don't think I'm attacking you, as it's not a personal matter. I just have a sensitive spot for respecting the distribution of other peoples' email addresses and publicly posting technical details of their systems.  Green Helmet 20:59, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Far more than spelling fixes

Your "spelling fixes" on Strong Badia the Free only accomplished removing all of the links, formatting, and mandatory templates on the page, in addition to fixing the spelling of a mere two words that I noticed. Why did you do that? If you copied the page's contents into a word processor, ran the spell checker, and pasted it back in, that would help to explain it... which is why you shouldn't do that. --Jay (Talk) 18:51, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Sig

The image in your current sig should be reduced 28px (max) in width to conform to the 20px-max-height expectation (see HRWiki:Signature). OptimisticFool 05:06, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Mas12806 (talk·contribs)
your sig is too long and your image too big. please shorten it, and reduce the size. thanks. — Defender1031*Talk 00:20, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Other

So a sysop is not a job at the Wiki, but a trusted user. Got it. I'd become a Sysop, but I have another job. I guess that's it. I guess. —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 02:27, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

During 6AM to 5PM during the week (Monday through Friday) I have to be at my other job. On Wednesday's, I get out of there by 4PM. I'd spend my whole day here at this wonderful Wiki, but you know, I've got to make some money to able to afford to keep this computer on, or else I couldn't be here. I'll try to fit more time. And if it's possible being a sysop user is a real paying job here, then I think it could work. Um, you administrators, you created this Wiki, right? Your in charge of everything? I'd like to say something. Looking to see that in the list users page, there are several page does not exist users. May I reccommend keeping these off the page as they are no longer using the Wiki? —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 03:13, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not a sysop or anything, but i believe i'm pretty well-respected round these parts. And it's not staying up all day and night, it's more just doing what you can, monitoring changes, helping out people, stuff like that. That's all. — Defender1031*Talk 02:09, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
no, but many of the sysops and respected users are in other countries, allowing for differences in timezone. As for becoming a sysop, you just gotta be the best user you can. there's no nominations or anything, it's just like, if they think they need more sysops, they know who's been trustworthy, and they pick someone. Basically a "don't call us, we'll call you" kind of thing. — Defender1031*Talk 02:20, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Welcoming

Hi, Mas12806. Thanks for doing some welcoming for us. However, I note that your welcomes are a bit impersonal: they're basically the same welcome for each user with just the name changed. We prefer that people welcome using a more personal style (see these comments), so please keep that in mind for future welcomes. Also, it's standard to ask users to ask you questions via your talk page rather than by email. Thanks for your time. Heimstern Läufer 01:46, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

I understand I should have made different letters for each new user, but there will be alot of users joining. Is it against the policy to do this for the committee? I shall try different letters next time. Thanks! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 02:15, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
First off, we prefer to keep discussions in one place, so if someone leaves a note on your talk page, it's best to just reply here. Secondly, yeah, we don't really do the whole canned welcome thing that's usual on lots of other wikis. We only welcome users if we have something personal to say to them (which means we won't usually welcome a user until they've already made an edit or two, though there are exceptions). Remember, they'll get the links that they need anyway from the bot. Thanks; keep on tranglin'. Heimstern Läufer 11:06, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
I think you're still missing the point. That was not a personal welcome, and you're still providing an email link rather than encouraging talk page posting. — Defender1031*Talk 23:11, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Santa's comment

My goodness. I saw Santa's comment, man. Thanks for deleting him It's dot com. I know I've made a few mistakes in this Organazation, but really, everyone has made mistakes here. I'm not sure a threat like that should exactly follow to a deletion. Anyway, what mistake was I to be sausage for? —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 22:29, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Did you by chance look at his contributions? He "bombed" and then deleted several talk pages and articles. That fits the definition of a vandal to me. DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 02:46, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Now I see it. Thanks. Thanks for telling me this when you should have 15 days ago. But it's fine. —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 02:51, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah...didn't see that you posted it that long ago until just now. Oops :). DevonM(talk·cont-ribs) 03:05, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Indentation

Hey there, mas. I noticed that you never use indentation in talk page posts, which makes discussions really hard to read. Please have a look at the talk page etiquette. Thanks heaps! Loafing 03:59, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Loafing:
I see that I don't indent. But it is not hard to read from the page. Maybe a little in the edit page, if you mean it's hard to read in the edit page, then I see the problem. I don't think it's much of an issue as WikiTrolls like Santa are coming around. Thanks! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 00:25, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it makes discussions hard to read. Especially when several people are participating. Loafing 00:43, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
So your talking about the edit page has no indent's? The regular page looks fine? —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 01:02, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. I'm asking you to put colons in front of your posts on talk pages so that they are properly indented. Have a look at the link I gave you to see how and why. Thanks. Loafing 23:07, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Ohhhhh, I see. Thanks. —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 23:40, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Be my friend!

I need some friends, please be my friend

Ok sure. How do I do that? —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 23:40, 3 December 2008 (UTC) I'm not sure, but i heard you could do it

Not sure of what? Heard I could do what? Be more specific please. That was sure a fast reply. Thanks! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 21:58, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Blocked?

To respond to your question over there, I was blocked for policing a user who kept blanking their talk page. A freakin' month, man. Unfair, I know. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 01:08, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Uh, policing? I have been diagnosed with amnesia for quite some time now. Could you be more specific please? Also thanks for moving the conversation! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 01:19, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Um, I kept telling him to quit and kept reverting the page and I went extremely overboard and called Dot Com a jerk on IRC and that really... eh... MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 01:21, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Ouch, that's got to hurt. But I don't understand why you called It's Dot Com a jerk. Was it by accident you thought you were doing it to someone else, or you were just mad? I mean, what did he do anyway? —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 01:27, 22 December 2008 (UTC) P.S. Which user was that who kept blanking their talk?

Reversion Survey

Sorry about interrupting the conversation but, since I'm new to the patrol edit coalition, I found a red exclamation mark in one of your edits. I'm just wondering that may I patrol the edit to make sure it isn't spam nor vandalism? -Ümläut76 (The C Zone · Talk here!) 20:21, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Don't ask to patrol. If it's not vandalism or spam, then patrol it. Simple as that. — Defender1031*Talk 02:29, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah Umlat76, you shouldn't ask people, it's part of your job as part of the recent changes patrol to patrol edits. It's your first time doing it, I understand. So just patrol all edits that are not spam or vandal. Thanks! —Mas12806 (talk·contribs) 02:31, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Okay, but I'll just revert the vandal edits, not the patrolled ones. -Template:Umlaut76/sig
