Biography

Template:biowiki The Cheat is a character in the Homestar Runner animated cartoon series, and is Strong Bad's "sidekick" and primary partner in crime. When his name is invoked, it is always as "The Cheat" (with the definite article), and never merely "Cheat". He speaks entirely in a language of high-pitched squeaks and growls, which the other characters can apparently understand.

The Cheat is small and requires protection from larger predators, which is provided by his best friend Strong Mad. His appearance has been described as a cross between a Pikachu, a wedge of cheese, and an anvil. The Cheat has a gold tooth, although it is rarely seen. Though his yellow fur has some black spots like a Cheetah, his name also fits his passion for scheming and finding ways to cheat.

Cheat Physiology

At knee-height (1' 2" et 18lb.), and covered with yellow fuzz, The Cheat presents an adorable figure. Strong Bad's retelling of how he met The Cheat in flashback professes that he hatched from a giant egg containing a lifetime supply of fishsticks. If this story is taken to be true, this would make him a monotreme — an egg laying mammal. He has fought with a cigarette-smoking habit, indicating that he is susceptible to nicotine addiction.

For some time, The Cheat appeared to be quite possibly the only one of his kind. However, several "The Cheats" began appearing in cartoons called The Cheat Commandos, a sendup of the 1980s G. I. Joe televised series.

The Cheat's Computer

The Cheat uses his iMac-like computer (called Tangerine Dreams) to produce his own cartoons. These "Powered by the Cheat" animations are drawn in their own distinctively crude style, and are critically evaluated by Strong Bad--on occasion warranting a trophy. In addition to a computer, the Cheat also has an old music keyboard which he plays in order to create music videos.

The Cheat's computer appears to be the most powerful one in the Homestar Runner world. As Strong Bad once commented after attempting to open his email by typing "strongbad_email.exe" over and over, "Your computer has too much computer in it, and not enough typewriter." This computer appears to be located in Strong Bad's house, despite the fact that he lives in a surprisingly spacious barbecue grill owned by the King of Town.

Greeting from his Character Video

{Page Title: Incredible Cheating Action!} {Place: The Field}

THE CHEAT: {speaking The Cheat language with English subtitles} Yeah, I'm the Cheat. What are you gonna do about it? ...That's what I thought. Now let me finish. I help Strong Bad cheat at stuff. Hence, the name. Duh. I also DJ down at Bubs' on Friday nights. I'll put you on the guest list if you give me twenty bucks. I make cartoon animations with my computer. Don't ask me to make a video for your band. You guys suck! My main man Strong Mad protects me from larger predators, like being sat on by Strong Sad or Pom Pom. I've got a gold tooth. Wanna see it? Tough! ...Okay, fine. {bares a toothy smile at the camera showing his gold tooth} Now turn that camera off before I throw this bust of Van Buren at it.

{throws the bust at the camera}

Fun Facts

  • Some sources say the animation style in the Powered by the Cheat was the one used by The Brothers Chaps before they settled on the current design. In the cartoons, Mike Chapman provides poor imitations of his brother Matt's normal voice work.
  • The Cheat has been known to carry a fake ID that identifies him as a 43 year-old Scandinavian miner named "Ilko Skevüld".

Goofs

  • The Cheat suggests in his character video that Pom Pom is heavy even though it is suggested elsewhere that Pom Pom is extremely light.
