[edit] Rename to "Hunt the Wumpus"

As the Wumpus is an integral part of the game, rather than some standalone creature that happened to get a game, it makes more sense to name the article after Hunt the Wumpus as a whole, rather than specifically the Wumpus. On top of that, the PAY PLUS! and @StrongBadActual references just refer to the game, rather than the Wumpus itself. — Keegster2 (Howl at me) 01:18, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

They all refer to the game, really. I am convinced. -113.37.226.89 03:49, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
Fair enough. I'll make the change as soon as I can.--EcotwashereJar/Talk 18:02, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
I would have to disagree with the move. While half of the four entries specifically point to the game, the other two (from the Thy Dungeonman series) seem to refer to the Wumpus itself and not the game. From what I can tell, neither make any direct reference to hunting it. --Stux 00:34, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
But they make direct reference to smelling it, which is a game mechanic I.e. how you track it down to hunt it. -113.37.226.89 00:57, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
Wumpus is a lot easier to spell out, but we can just make it redirect (even though that's just how moving a page works). I think that keeping it Wumpus could cause some problems if there are any references to Discord's mascot but I doubt that that will happen any time soon.--EcotwashereJar/Talk 15:11, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
Ah, thank you very much 113.37.226.89 for the information on Smelling the Wumpus! That makes sense in retrospect. I've now read the references more carefully and checked the Wikiepdia page a little. I have a better understanding that the logic behind the rename is to focus on the source game being referenced. I feel like there are 3 different concepts that could covered in the article:
  • The original videogame, Hunt the Wumpus.
  • The act of hunting the Wumpus by smell.
  • The Wumpus itself.
So this article doesn't make mention of the connection between smelling the wumpus and hunting it. That should probably be clarified. Anywho, given the prominent role of "Hunt the Wumpus" in videogame history, and the minimal role of the Wumpus in the references, I am no longer opposed to renaming this article. --Stux 05:58, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
