- Part of the kickball game, specifically how the teams are arranged, refers to chapter 21 of "Sideways Stories From Wayside School", in which Ron, one of the children from the school's thirtieth floor, plays kickball against his classmates, with only Louis, the school yard teacher, on his team, only to lose the game due to his poor kicking ability.
