Parsing Error

The H*R.com updates article has been throwing an error since a recent upgrade. Has anyone else seen other pages doing this? I think it has something to do with the template. Other pages are loading templates just fine, and, in fact, Template:updates is viewable. So why would the program have problems inserting that template onto this page? --JoeyDay 12:49, 24 Nov 2004 (MST)

It wasn't the template that was the problem. As I mentioned above, the template was viewable, it was just throwing errors when used on pages. Actually, everything is fixed now. I re-uploaded all the files for MediaWiki and that seems to have fixed things up nicely. --JoeyDay 13:43, 24 Nov 2004 (MST)

Lock?

I've noticed that some pages on Wikipedia happen to be lockable if people keep on editing in nasty things. Like, say, George W. Bush. Would that be possible on here? It'd sure-as-heck prevent all those people from trying to post updates here or vandalizing it, and frankly, what editing does this page really need? It's a page with a call to a template and maybe an introductory paragraph, but that's it. What's to edit? Were you doing a normal Refresh or a Ctrl+Refresh? Ctrl+Refresh forces your browser to load from the site rather than pulling the page from your temporary internet files. See if that makes a difference. I haven't confirmed this yet, but I'm starting to think MediaWiki actually caches pages somewhere on the server so that it doesn't get overloaded with PHP/SQL requests. Smart thinking if you ask me, and I think that's what makes it run smoother than 'Tavi. Anyway, try the Ctrl+Refresh and if that doesn't work try clearing your temp internet files. Actually, as far as I know, a regular refresh checks if your cache is correct, and then loads the newest version. But I'll have to look it up.

MediaWiki does cache pages, images in particular. Quite nicely I might add, considering our bandwidth draw. Anyway, this page has worked fine for me since the first time I viewed it on Monday. This sounds similar to how Wikipedia behaves with respect to the Main Page. This link should force the page to update the cache for H*R.com_updates.

'Not sure when?' section?

Should there be one? Because you may never know when a page is updated and you don't know when. Like Coach Z's quote in 'The House That Gave Sucky Treats', or the new pop up in the museum for 'The Isle of Pom'.

Experimental Film 'Official' TMBG video

On January 10th, They Might Be Giants released the official video of Experimental Film. It's quite a bit different than the one on H*R.com. While it's not directly on the site, it probably deserves mention on the updates page.

Updates and 2005 updates page template

Wouldn't it make it a little cleaner between the 2005 updates page and the main updates page (which is updated more regularly than the 2005 page) to have a template for the 2005 updates, and also put that on the main updates page? In response to Monsieur Jones, you may have a forum, but I was kicked off b/w frozen from it. So now, to me, it is now just a useless bunch of webpages with a prefix of "forum.hrwiki.org". And also, I've never seen a whole week without an update. So this is probably gonna be wither one really big thing, or like, ten little things. You know who I am. I'm just too lazy to log in.

At the risk of prolonging this discussion, I must point out that since the beginning of 2004 the length of time between updates has been two weeks on at least a dozen different occasions. (I'm not counting minor updates like Quotes of the Week. And I say at least a dozen because that number is higher if you don't count certain games like Racewalker or a couple of the Puppet Jams, which I don't.) We'll get an update when we get an update. The link to rampage is set to edit the page, not view it, for some reason. This needs to be fixed.

Maybe you need to refresh your cache. Maybe you were trying to see the page as it was being created. Either way, it works now. If you still don't see it, press CTRL+F5 to do a hard refresh. — It's dot com 08:40, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

-Does anyone else think that the text for 'A record of all changes from January 3rd to...' ect should be changed to just 'January 1st?'. (And all the other accompanying years, for example: January 6th - December 16th = January 1st - December 31st, for example, in 2003). I find it kinda confusing, like we somehow missed the first few days and last few of the year or something. It's still a record of changes for those two days, it just so happened that nothing was updated. Does anyone agree with me on this? +:Were you doing a normal Refresh or a Ctrl+Refresh? Ctrl+Refresh forces your browser to load from the site rather than pulling the page from your temporary internet files. See if that makes a difference. I haven't confirmed this yet, but I'm starting to think MediaWiki actually caches pages somewhere on the server so that it doesn't get overloaded with PHP/SQL requests. Smart thinking if you ask me, and I think that's what makes it run smoother than 'Tavi. Anyway, try the Ctrl+Refresh and if that doesn't work try clearing your temp internet files.
