Lowercase i's were made popular during the 90s with Sonic Team's Cult Classic video game that everyone knows but not many have played, NiGHTs into Dreams, though it was most certainly used before that. It's most likely, that being gaming fans, TBC are taking the heed from NiGHTS moreso than anything else.
