Come join the party, Moniker!

Hello, Moniker and welcome to the Homestar Runner Wiki. We're glad to have you as a member. If you need any help, feel free to ask me, a sysop or anyone on the welcoming committee. You can also post questions on the FAQ.

  • Before you do any significant editing, be sure to familiarize yourself with our wiki standards.
  • Read up on the rules and guidelines for your user page.
  • If you're not sure what you can do to help out, head over to The Stick.
  • If you have any fanstuff, bring it to the Fanstuff Wiki.
  • If you're looking for more community interaction, you can also register over at our forum.
  • To practice editing, go over to the sandbox.
  • If you see an update on homestarrunner.com that isn't listed on the main page, put it up here
  • Above all, be sure to be bold and have fun!

[edit] Summaries & signeries

I admire your recognition of the fact that nobody likes to be reverted or deleted without an explanation. There's actually a much easier way to do so, though. Click "edit" above this section: see the box below the text field marked "Summary:"? If you were to put something there, it would show up beside the record of your edit in the page's history and in recent changes. And yes, it's strongly encouraged, for the reasons you mentioned (except you don't have to bother when reverting vandals; then you can just put "rv/v" for "revert vandalism"). Another, unrelated thing: on talk pages, it's nice to sign your posts. The easiest way to do this is to type "~~~~" at the end; the software translates this into your username, linked to your userpage, plus the date and time.
One more thing: You seem to be interested in editing and commenting on a more involved basis than the passing visitor, and if so I can't recommend highly enough simply reading through the pages under Help. In most places, "help" is just a resource you go to when you're stumped; these pages are more like a succinct crash course in everything-you-need-to-know-to-start-hrwikiing. They're all helpful, but mostly Editing and Wiki standards. I strongly suggest reading those two straight through.
Good luck! I'm glad you're getting more involved, and I hope this is the start of a long and glorious wikizenship! —AbdiViklas 03:54, 17 May 2006 (UTC) (There, see? I just typed ~~~~ to get that!)
