"I'ma set it straight, this Watergate!"

The hip hop group the Beastie Boys has been referenced throughout the Homestar Runner body of work, most likely as a result of them showing footage of Everybody to the Limit at one of their concerts; in addition, their album Paul's Boutique has been in Mike Chapman's top five.

References

  • Pom Pom's Character Video — The page title is "The Most Mackinest", which is a phrase taken from the Beastie Boys' song "Shake Your Rump".
  • Email cheatday — Strong Bad's incantation of the "Mike Control" song is rhythmically similar to a section of the Beastie Boys' song "Jimmy James" from their Check Your Head album.
  • Bug in Mouth DiseaseBubs says that he is "the most quackinest", a reference to "The Most Mackinest".
  • Email technology — Strong Bad's claim to be "kicking [his] new Tech-Kuh-Nowledge" is a reference to the song "The Sounds of Science", on the band's album, Paul's Boutique.
  • Email bike thief (DVD commentary) — Strong Bad claims he is "nothin' but a bike thief that must be stopped" which he then attributes to "Beatsie Boys" (a nickname for the band), and states that the title is "Car Thief, in their terms". This song is also from Paul's Boutique.
  • Fish Eye Lens — This toon is heavily influenced by the Beastie Boys. Many of their music videos and publicity photos were shot using fisheye lenses.
  • I Killed Pom Pom — Bubs dresses as Adam Yauch, a former member of the Beastie Boys, as he appeared in the music video for their 1994 song "Sabotage".
  • Dad's Garage & Friends - 13 Jun 2015 — The last line of Homestar Runner's rap is a reference to "Pass the Mic".
