Talk:Lappy 486
From Homestar Runner Wiki
Strong Bad's up-to-date email program looks suspiciously like PINE (PINE Is Not Elm). PINE is one of the older old-school email clients on UNIX networks such as university shell accounts.
-- The official acronym for PINE is Program for Internet News and Email.
Contrast
Do you think that perhaps the contrast knob will be added to the Lappy later on? I mean, maybe they just forgot to put it in. In any case, I liked the contrast thing (although the LCD liquid effect is pretty dang cool).
- Probably not. Most laptops I've seen don't have contrast knobs (though my knowledge of ancient laptops is pretty non-existant). --TheNintenGenius 15:00, 29 Nov 2004 (MST)
- I have an ancient laptop... probably closer to a Lappy 286 than a Lappy 486. It has no contrast, but it does have brightness which would basically just make the backlight brighter or darker. Even at its brightest, it's nowhere near bright enough unless all the lights are out. So theoretically this could be added, but I have a feeling they're gonna leave it as just the LCD effect. --jtickle 23:45, 29 Nov 204 (EST)
- I've used several laptops, and I have never seen a contrast setting on any of them. I think it's a setting specific to the electron guns used in CRT monitors. --oddtodd 00:10, 1 Dec 2004 (MST)
- Perhaps more relevent, the original Gateway Colorbook had a 486, color screen, and a contrast knob which had the interesting property of being able to invert the color like a photographic negative if you went too far in the wrong direction. --Anonymous

OS Inspiration
I know I can't be the only one to see parallels between the Lappy 486's logo and that of Mac OS 8. Even the startup sound seems rather Mac-inspired. --codeman38 21:56, 29 Nov 2004 (MST)
- Oh, yeah, it's definitely Mac-inspired.StrongstarRunbad 14:53, 9 Dec 2004 (MST)
Lappy outer logo
Can anyone get a shot of the Lappy outer logo? When Strong Bad carries it in his fist blocks it.
- I'm working on it, as you can see from this image. Also, if you wanted a screenshot of the logo that Strong Bad's head blocks when we first see the logo on screen, that image is here. Even if I'm able to cut Strong Bad out from the screenshot of the ORIGINAL FRAME, the image quality will not be too high. Better to leave it small such as this thumbnail. Hope this was helpful.
