Template talk:welcome
From Homestar Runner Wiki
Is it an okay idea to have a template for this? I just put this template here now, so I'm wondering if I should have it for others who don't know what to say when welcoming. --Darklinkskywalker 21:19, 14 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- I don't like it. It's just going to make the welcomes even more ridiculously impersonal. Homestar Coder

This is what I find (an almost word-for-word copy) on most pages with welcomes on them, so I figured I would just make a template for them to make them quick and easier. —↑Darklinkskywalker|Talk_|i did this stuff_↓
- Oh, I know that people just copy this word-for-word anyway, so the template can't really do too much more harm. I'm just saying, I don't like our current system of welcoming. Homestar Coder

Yes, I agree. We should probably change it around or fix it up a bit. —↑Darklinkskywalker|Talk_|i did this stuff_↓
- That's not what I mean. I mean I don't like this cookie-cutter welcome message at all. I'm a proponent of only offering help if people look like they need it, so when I welcome somebody, I just say "welcome" and help them with the specific thing they look to be struggling with. Homestar Coder

Oh, okay. I guess. --—↑Darklinkskywalker|Talk_|i did this stuff_↓ 19:12, 18 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I wouldn't really know what they would be struggling with, and lots of non-sysops probably wouldn't know either. --—↑Darklinkskywalker|Talk_|i did this stuff_↓ 22:23, 20 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- Generally, I just look at the edits they made, and if they made a mistake or seem to not know how to do something (like if they sign their name wrong), I'll generally drop a note with a useful tip in it, that's all. Homestar Coder

JoeyDay link
I'm taking off the link to JoeyDay. First, because he suggests people use the FAQ. Second, because he's pretty busy right now and doesn't have time to check the wiki as much as he'd like (in fact, in the last month, he's only been able to make one edit (besides updating the ledger)). — It's dot com 22:35, 20 Jul 2005 (UTC)
