THANK YOU

for unblocking me! thanks a million!!!!!!!!!!! -Kinsey

Uh, I didn't unblock you, and I can find no record of you being blocked in the first place... Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 21:01, 7 Jul 2005 (UTC)

well, somehow Fricky Dee used my Ip address and I got blocked too. Fricky Dee might of been my annoying brother playing pranks. -Kinsey

Oh, okay. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 14:59, 8 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I have a big query.

Hey AtHC, How do people become Administrators? I've been thinking about that... -Kinsey

I don't want to presume to speak for Aurora, but I've written at length about this very subject on this page, if that helps. — It's dot com 19:42, 12 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Here is the relevant text from that page:
Becoming an admin, as they're also called, is a good goal to have, but it doesn't happen overnight. Basically, you start out at the bottom of the totem pole, and work your way up. Over time, people will begin to notice your edits; you'll want to make good ones. If you do, gradually a sense of trust will develop between you and the wiki community. In the meantime, fight trolls, add good fun facts, monitor pages for bad edits, help out with the maintenance of the site, learn the ins and outs of the software. Undertake a worthwhile project (but ... it's best to get approval before doing so). Then, sometime in the future, the current admins will open the floor for nominations for new sysops, at which time another user can throw your name in the ring. Then, we'll all vote on you. They probably won't nominate new admins for a while, and when they do, maybe you'll be nominated, maybe not. Either way, keep on keepin' on making good edits and building up that trust. It's just that simple!
I'm glad you posted that, It's dot com, because it's a good explanation! Definately monitor for edits, learn to recognize good and poor edits, and always be diplomatic in discussions. Undertaking worthwhile projects (with wiki-approval first) is a great way to contribute and be noticed. To all of this, I would add that you should think about why you want to become an administrator. If you want to be an administrator to have more power, that's the wrong reason. It's about responsibility, not power, and it sometimes involves doing unpleasant things. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:46, 12 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Name

Dear Amanda,
I noticed over a month ago (when I checked out some of the other pages on your server) that you had a different (i.e. real) name, but you never commented on it so I didn't press it. Why the sudden switch? Just curious. (Amanda is a very lovely name. It will be hard, though, to get out of the habit of typing "reply for Aurora".) Is this why you recently started going by "Homestar Coder" in your sig?
Sincerely,
Ben

Aurora Szalinski was my internet persona name for years, and I've just grown tired of it. I kept using it because it was convenient; "Aurora Szalinski" is NEVER taken as a username, and I had some pride in having a unique username that nobody else on the Internet has ever used (at least according to Google). But I prefer my real name to Aurora and I don't like that people tend to associate my Internet name with a stupid fairytale princess. I've decided to switch over from my old pseudonym, and that is indeed why I changed my sig. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 16:18, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Addendum: I'm not going to be all uptight about people calling me Aurora though. Aurora is still okay. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 16:22, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Whenever I hear the name "Amanda", I think of that classic Simpsons line. That's why it's one of my all-time favorite names. — Ben... it's Dot com
Gee... thanks. ;) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 16:54, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Er, no offense meant. Just a funny coincidence. — It's dot com 16:58, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
No offense taken. I've certainly heard that before, and I'm hard to offend. I'm just amused that you like a name because of a prank call on The Simpsons. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 17:06, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Good. I didn't think you took it wrong, but on something as personal as a name, it doesn't hurt to be sure. As for The Simpsons, suffice it to say that it was my main source of references until H*R came along. (Well, that and Seinfeld.) — It's dot com 17:47, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I think that The Simpsons is severely overrated, personally. I love cartoons; I have a hobby of learning animation history, and you can find me over on Toonzone a lot. I prefer both Family Guy and Futurama, but Venture Brothers owns them all. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:15, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I don't know if it makes any difference, but I should have said "Simpsons from ten years ago." I can't stand the new stuff. I also haven't made up my mind up the new Family Guy season, but the original three seasons just kill me. I have to quote this, because I'm literally laughing right now just thinking about it:
Peter: Hey, is the Count a vampire?
Brian: What's that?
Peter: Well he's got these big fangs. Have they ever shown him doin' somebody in and then feedin' on em?
Brian: You're, you're asking me if they've ever done a Seseme Street in which the Count kills somebody and then sucks their blood for sustenance?
Peter: Yeah.
Brian: No, they've never done that.
Hahaha, great stuff. I like:
Peter: Brian, there's a message in my Alpha Bits! It says, "oooooo!"
Brian: Peter, those are Cheerios.

Sorry.

Sorry for adding a comment to the character evoloution talk page shortly after you deleted it. I should have checked recent changes before I edited. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif, 20:33, 13 July 2005 (BST)

No, that's cool. Thank you for understanding why I deleted that page! I just redeleted it. :) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:34, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Hating you

I don't. Just disagreeable at times. I'm not passionate about the "male modeling" fact in a "WTF IS THIS BLASTED FACT WASTING SPACE ON THE WIKI FOR" manner like the "doyng" fact or the Family Guy non-reference; I'm just very leery about it, and was trying to get people out of the bad habit of "well, it COULD BE, so we have to include it!" --Jay (Gobble) 22:21, 14 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I was kidding. Kidding! I think you're cool and all, but you're awfully easy to rile up ;) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:47, 14 Jul 2005 (UTC)
What are you.... um.... doing teasing Jay like that, H*C?!! —BazookaJoe 22:50, 14 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Heh. I just like being silly, is all. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:59, 14 Jul 2005 (UTC)
You guys crack me up... ;) — It's dot com

talktobedeleted

Hi there Homestar Coder. When you made the talktobedeleted template, was your intention what is described on the Category:To be deleted page? -- Tom 03:09, 18 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Nope. The idea was a template that can go on the talk page of an article which is going to be deleted, so people know what the conversation is about... The intention stated on "Category: To be deleted" is also valid, but I would have reworded the template more (talktobedeleted says "This article is pending deletion...). Should I create a new one that says "This talk page is pending deletion", or what? Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 03:40, 18 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I figured. No, I don't really think we need a seperate template for the deleting of talk pages. I could see where the confusion arose though, since the two templates share the category. -- Tom 04:24, 18 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Did we ever figure out a better wording for the template? I just changed it to "The article this talk page accompanies is currently pending deletion"? It doesn't sound too good, but I wanted to clear that up, along with the instructions on the Category:To be deleted page. What do you think? -- Tom 18:06, 2 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I think the new wording clears it up, but I think we should have another template to use to signal that we are pending deletion on the talk page and not the article. Like when an anonny creates a talk page like, "Home* Runnuw Rulez!"
I think the tobedeleted template works well enough for that. I don't really worry about the link to the Talk:Talk: page. -- Tom 18:34, 2 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Thank you

SUP Thank for the message post anthing you want on my talk page Vile.exe

No problem. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 04:13, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

STUFF/checkstuffpage

Just to satisfy your curiosity, and for no other reason, the anonny followed the link at Template:checkstuffpage and created a page that was, thus, STUFF/checkstuffpage. —BazookaJoe 14:36, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Oh, I see. I thought it might be something like that. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 14:54, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

User Page

Nice user page overhaul. I like it very much. Grood job. —FireBird|Talk 19:17, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Thank you! It isn't so much a coherent overhaul as goofing around with templates.
File:kimblee-lifegood.png I did make a fun new "message from Homestar Coder" style though :)
Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:18, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Ah. Nice goofing and templates, then. :P —FireBird|Talk 19:20, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)
I'm entirely too proud of myself for figuring out how to do boxes with borders. :p Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:23, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Disney

Amanda... have a nice time. See you on the chicken-man... movie. —BazookaJoe 14:52, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I don't know what that means! And you still smell like pea soup! Seriously, I'm sure you don't smell like pea soup, but chicken man movie? Guh? ;) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 15:07, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Google knows. -- Tom 15:13, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)
You know, usually my first instinct in situations like this is to run to Google, but I didn't even think to Google for chicken-man... movie. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 15:34, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Protecting

Hey Amanda. I wanted to point out that adding {{mprotected}} to an image does not protect non-sysops from editing it. You have to protect it with an admin command. Also, don't forget to unprotect Image:20050818 fanstuff hsr wedding invite.PNG. Thanks! —BazookaJoe 18:33, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

That was silly of me, I don't know why I thought it did. I've never really mprotected something, actually, because somebody usually gets to the whatsnew updates before me... Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 18:34, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)
We learn something new everyday. —BazookaJoe 18:36, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)
For some reason that made me think of "Each day we die a little more." Maybe those two things are connected ;) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 18:37, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)
