:Are you trying to upload a bitmap (BMP) file? If so, you'll have to change it to a PNG, GIF, or JPEG format first. (If that's not fixing it, let me know) 04:03, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

::Just going to the "Upload File" page is giving me a permission error. I don't know, man. TheDude 04:07, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

:::If you haven't autoconfirmed your account with an email address, do that — that should fix the problem. (You can do this at Special:Preferences.) 04:09, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Upon further discussion with Phlip, I may have been wrong about you needing to autoconfirm your email address. So, if this doesn't work, try going to Special:Upload, and paste here the error message it's giving you. 04:16, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

:Okay, you're going to have to wait a couple days — there's a delay between user registration and when you can upload files, to prevent people from creating accounts solely for the purpose of uploading inappropriate images.

-

-
:Try again at this time tomorrow, and see if you're able to upload your files; I think you should be autoconfirmed then. Best, 04:22, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

:::The Dude: I'm wondering if the error message you got stated anything about new users not being able to upload files for a couple of days? If not, maybe there's a way to ask that the error message be made clearer. --Stux 14:13, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

-
::::Good morning. No, it doesn't clarify at all. I confirmed my email, but it still gave an error stating I had to be (at the very least) autoconfirmed. Is this unusual or is everyone restricted from uploading for their first day? TheDude 14:16, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

-
:::::No, it's normal. Autoconfirmation happens around a day or so after you sign up... as Stux said, it's so that vandals who create new user accounts can't easily vandalise images (templates on the main page, like whatsnew, and page moves, are also disabled for new users, for the same reason). Try it again tomorrow, it should be fine. Incidentally, autoconfirmation has nothing to do with confirming your email address... you only need to do that if you want to enable email-related things (letting users send you mail through Special:Emailuser/TheDude, getting notifications if your talk page is edited, etc). 14:46, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

::::::Yup, sorry abou the confusion about email addresses above. 14:47, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

:::::::Just for clarification, it was Trey56, not I, who explained that this feature is a measure to hinder vandals. --Stux 16:09, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

I found what I believe to be an oversight, but it is beyond my (current) abilities to fix it. In The Chair there is a comment and picture about the "photo" of SB's parents in the Easter Eggs section, but this isn't really

an egg... unless there's some strange convention about using the decompiler that I'm not aware of. Help out the new guy? TheDude 14:48, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

:An Easter egg is a hidden feature in a toon that's intended for viewers to find. Almost always, these are accessible through a mouse click on a certain word, etc., but on very rare occasions, The Brothers Chaps put something within the Flash file for "hardcore" viewers to find. Interestingly, they talk a little about this very Easter egg that you noticed in the chair in Georgia Tech - 26 Apr 2007. Normally, we don't list oddities on pages that result from decompiling or manipulating the Flash file, but in the rare circumstance that these things are intended for viewers to find, we do. Now that you mention it, we should probably reword Easter egg a little bit to reflect this. Laters, 14:55, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

::In regards to changing the text in the above discussion: I believe his intent was to censor that specific word (probably due to its less than honorable origins). While that word has become part of modern day speech, I guess it might still be considered an offensive word by some perhaps? If that is the case, I have replaced the word with asterisks. The Dude: if you are censoring text, please spell that out exactly in the edit summary, since it is generally frowned upon when people edit other people's text. DeFender: I know your edit summaries are improving, but I still wanted to give a bit of advice: when reverting edits of this nature it is better to mention why you are reverting in a direct but polite tone. i.e.: Users are not supposed to modify other people's posts. That way the summaries sound less confrontational. --Stux 15:04, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

:::Good advice. Thanks. DeFender1031 15:10, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

::::It certainly wasn't me. Censor, reveal yourself! Um, stux, did a message before yours get baleeted? To Trey: I didn't think the comment was out of line or in any way inappropriate, but if there are users so conservative in their views that this rubs 'em the wrong way, I'll take the bleep on my page like a man. 03:04, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

-
:::::The censoring discussion stems from when the word mysteriously disappeared. This is where all this came from. The evidence never lies! Was it tasty, Lewis? Er I mean ... that's where all this came from. --Stux 06:18, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about inadvertently causing this whole thing by my use of that word. However, I don't think there's any reason whatsoever to censor it — it has many uses unrelated to obscene literature (in fact, you'll only find that usage tucked in a little section at the very bottom). From a little poking around at dictionary.com and oed.com, it seems pretty clear that the word was coined with the meaning, "unswervingly committed; uncompromising; dedicated", and it was only later applied to certain types of obscene literature along with a host of other subjects, including music, mathematics, wrestling, and gaming.

So, I'm having trouble telling from above if anybody was actually offended or if this is all a misunderstanding, but just in case, there's no reason to be offended by the use of the word "hardcore" in everyday speech. It has a well-defined meaning unrelated to anything obscene. 07:39, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

::Let me be clear of a few things: This is all a misunderstanding. I surmised from that The Dude's intentions were likely to censor (and I myself wondered if it should be afterwards), otherwise I figured it had to be an accident. All I wanted to know from The Dude (if you'd be so kind) is to clarify what happened: which I can only guess now was an accident. But that's just a guess. Other than that I provided suggestions to avoid this in the future (whatever it may be). Hopes this clarifies most everything. And Trey: you're a good man, you deserve the accolades. --Stux 15:21, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Ah, stux i got it now - thank you, until this point i was confused because i didn't think it was me, i just figured some tight*** censored my talk page - turns out, i was on a computer that has some electronic nanny or something on the browser and baleeted the word when i was editing something else. so, really it was my fault, but since this is the case, i'm putting the word back in to trey's comment. long live the internet 15:51, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

:You're welcome. I was as confused as you were about the whole thing. Sucks about the e-nanny thing, but more that I'm being a tightwad and censoring a different part of your page. Yay. Er. :) --Stux 17:26, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey TheDude. I was very pleased to see that you spelled Dr Pepper correctly. When I was in the City last year, I had trouble finding any that tasted just right ("just right" being how it tastes in Texas, naturally). A lot of the time I had problems just finding it at all. (If Spider-Man 2 is to be believed, it's everywhere. This was not my experience. Come to think of it, I didn't notice any web-slinging vigilantes there, either.) I imagine you have resources than I. Well, keep on tranglin'. — It's dot com 03:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

:If you know where to look, you can even find it here in New Zealand. But you'll have to take on a mortgage to buy one. And they don't taste just right ("just right" being how it tastes in California, naturally). ;-) 03:51, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

::I think you misunderstand, sir loafsalot - in texas, they still make it with pure cane sugar instead of cheap high fructose corn syrup - they way God himself intended it to be. Also, IDC, i don't "get" the SM2 reference, but i know the hurt and pain involved in not being able to enjoy an ice cold Dr P. In Jerusalem, you can get American imports, but they cost like six or seven shekel, which is pushing two dollars a can. (too early to write coherently) 12:14, 9 May 2007 (UTC) or el Duderino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing

:::When Spider-Man 2 was released, there was a large tie-in with Dr Pepper. The movie was featured on the cans, and when Peter Parker went to the convenience store or pizza place or whatever it was, in the background was a huge cooler full of, you guessed it, our favorite product (likewise, there's a scene in the second X-Men movie where a DP is prominently chilled on-screen). I'm afraid you have been sorely misinformed, however, regarding the pure cane sugar version. First, a little background: I have been a Dr Pepper fan for as long as I can remember. I worked for a time at the Dr Pepper corporate headquarters in Plano, Texas, and I'm actually drinking a DP as I type this. I made a special trip to Dublin one spring just to try the sugar version, and so I know what I'm talking about when I say that that stuff is nasty. Blech! Give me the high fructose corn syrup any day. Every day. Over the years, I have re-sampled the sugar product, just to be sure, and each time it's still gross. The worst part is that all my friends know I love Dr Pepper, and so they, believing the myth about Dublin Dr Pepper, go out of their way to get it for me and give it to me as a present. I have to smile and thank them through gritted teeth. Incidentally, I feel like I would probably shell out two bucks for a can if I had to. But I'm glad I don't. ;) — It's dot com 16:39, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
