Here is the email exchange between me and Carmen from HOW Magazine:

Hello, I am an administrator at a collective knowledge base website about Homestar Runner. I am emailing you in connection with the interview that you conducted with Matt and Mike Chapman, the creators of a while back in 2002. I could not find a copy of said interview on your website and I am interested in reading it. I would also like to know wheather or not you would allow me to reprint the interview on our website, namely here: Of course the creator would be given complete credit, along with a link to the original interview. Please let us know whether we can use this or not. Thank you, Elad Lerner
Thanks for your interest in HOW, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It took some time to track the article down. Good news though; we did find it! The article you're looking for is in the August 2003 issue, on page 20. You can order back issues of HOW from our website ( but it appears that that issue is already sold out. We, however, did not run that interview on our website (we only run select content on the site).

As far as reprinting the interview on your website, here is the formal policy: HOW's writing, photography and illustration contracts do not cover electronic usage beyond HOW's own Web site and products. Therefore, we cannot provide your firm with a PDF file of the article in which you were featured. If you would like to post a text-only version of the article on your Web site, you must obtain permission directly from the author (contact information can be found in the author's bio at the end of the article). Furthermore, you may not post that text on your Web site until the issue of HOW in which you were featured is no longer sold on newsstands (when the subsequent issue becomes available). HOW asks that any usage of that text carry a credit line citing where it originally appeared, i.e., "Reprinted with permission from the author and HOW magazine, April 2002;" We also ask that you link to from the article.

Fortunately, that article was written in-house and the writer has given her consent. I can get you the copy, although things are very busy around here and the designer will have to find the old disk and then fish out the info. It might just be easier if I can make you a copy of the article and you can enter it yourself (it's not too long--just half a page). Otherwise it probably will not be for a couple weeks that we can get the copy to you. Please let me know which you'd prefer. Thanks again for getting in touch with us.
