== Deleting files ==

Recently you said something about wanting to delete a file you've uploaded. You actually can't do that. What you can do is ask for it to be deleted by using the {{t|delete}} template, which will add a box to the page that says the page should be deleted. Hopefully a sysop (i.e. a user who can delete pages) will notice it and delete it for you. For example, you might try writing "<nowiki>{{delete|failed attempt for use in user page}}</nowiki>" in addition to the description. ::On this wiki, responding properly is generally done on the same talk page so as to keep all the relevant discussion in the same place. So you got that much right. Each further response is generally done by adding a colon to the beginning of your response, which indents it. (adding two colons indents it twice, etc.) And in order to sign your talk post, just type <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> to make your signature and the time appear. First of all, "Your signature must include a text version of your username, '''with a link to your user page'''." Yours appears to lack the link. Secondly, "'''A background other than white is strongly discouraged''', and any such background must be confined to the immediate text area. Borders or blinking (or '''anything else that gives undue salience to a signature) are not allowed'''". To me, the stark contrast of the black background gives your signature undue salience. :::::Actually, when using a link on the page it links to, the link won't work. Meaning, if you use the sig on this page, your talk page link won't work, because this is already your talk page. Likewise, using it on your user page will make the user page link not work. Anywhere else, both links will work. As for how to include your sig and timestamp without having to type it manually, type four tildes (<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>). Make sure that in your [[Special:Preferences|preferences]], the "signature" field says "<nowiki>{{User:Broncotroll/sig}}</nowiki>" and that the "Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)" checkbox is selected to ensure that it uses your custom signature properly. An aside, yes. I think my sig is probably the most confusing syntax on the entire wiki. It's because of the gradient and each character needing its own color code plus the fact that it's set up to automatically adjust for various holidays. Many have come before you trying to understand the mystery that is my signature and failed, and many will come after. Or... maybe not. :Yeah, we're working on that. They actually do work with MediaWiki and have for a while on our site, but something got borked about three years ago and we just now noticed because animated gifs are relatively rare for our wiki. We've manually fixed the ones already on [[@StrongBadActual]]. We're working on a permanent fix, but in the meantime we'll manually fix any others we come across, so feel free to upload them and use them in articles. We have a test wiki and they work just fine there, so at the very least they'll be fine once we upgrade MediaWiki versions, which should happen someday, probably. &mdash; [[User:It's dot com|It's dot com]] 06:14, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

== Wiki Etiquette ==

Hey there Broncotroll, I wanted to come here to leave you a message about some of the general wiki etiquette that we tend to prefer around here. Much of your recent editing has been difficult to navigate because of this, and I was hoping to give you some pointers to make it easier for everyone in the future. So here we go.
#Taking on large projects without prior discussion should be avoided. &mdash; Examples include the wide sweeping edits you've been making to the pluralization articles, as well as the glossary. The wiki doesn't have to be perfect right this second. If you see minor things which need fixing, spelling errors, a fun fact worth adding, etc. go ahead and add it. If, on the other hand, you think something is inconsistent and needs a major overhaul, please bring it up on the talk page first and wait for consensus before making broad sweeping changes that are not guaranteed to be agreed with by everyone and leaving a mess of edits for people to sort through some of which may be good, but many of which will need reverting. Especially when you have ALREADY brought up a topic on the talk page, please wait for responses before launching into a major overhaul. Which brings me to my next piece of advice.
#When you leave a talk page post, give people some time to respond before becoming frantic. &mdash; For example {{p|l=http://www.hrwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3AGlossary&diff=750006&oldid=631702 these 8 posts}}, all by you, were made in the span of less than 5 hours. Some people have jobs. Some people, as you appear to already have realized, are in different timezones. The remaining active wiki users are not on the wiki 24/7. Give it a couple of days before assuming no one will see or respond to your talk post.
#Overall, try to be a team player. &mdash; The wiki is a team effort, and will be better overall if we discuss, analyze, and come to a consensus first, rather than each trying to do our own thing and ending up stepping on each others' toes.

::One thing I'm noticing is that you're adding an opinion to a tbd page and proceeding to remove the tbd template. This is not recommended because it effectively means you're trying to close the discussion. I can tell that you want to get things done, but this goes against all three of DeFender's points earlier in this section (probably the last two more so than the first). If the discussion were closed right after your post, you're not giving anyone a chance to respond, which goes against the second point, and if the discussion were closed, your post would always be last, which is a form of monopolizing the system, which goes against the third point. And you're doing a lot of it right now (I'm led to believe that you're using the [[:Category:Articles for Discussion]] list), which could be considered taking on a fairly large project (although you could argue there was prior discussion hence the articles' inclusion in that category in the first place). Several of them have an established consensus to keep, so it was a good thing that you brought that back to our attention. However, the articles that don't have consensus to keep, even if they have consensus to delete, should not have the discussion closed until action is taken regarding keep or delete. == Image Cropping ==

So... I hate to do another one of these, because I feel like I've been correcting you a lot and I don't want to make you feel like I think you're doing everything wrong (because I don't think that). That having been said... I ''did'' notice one more little thing, which is that many of the images you've uploaded are leaving parts of the black border in the image. If you take a look at the wiki's [[HRWiki:Standards#Screenshot|standards for screenshots]], you'll notice that it mentions:

Basically, the best way to take a screenshot is to open it in mspaint or an equivalent image editor and then zoom in so that you can crop the pixels precisely to the edge of the frame, and then go around to the four corners of the image and use the color selector to get the color that the rounded black parts are surrounded by, and use the bucket to paint them with the proper color. It would be very helpful if you could do that in the future. It would be extra-super helpful if you could do that with the {{p|l=http://www.hrwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=upload&user=Broncotroll&page=&year=&month=-1 images you've already uploaded}} as well. ::::Wow, you're fast. As for things taking a while to upload, mediawiki has this thing where the most recent version of a file uploaded is always at the same URL. This ends up causing browser cache issues, so people may still end up seeing an older version of the picture for a while. It doesn't mean it took a while to upload or didn't upload correctly, it just means your browser's cache is out of date. Anyway, that's just a minor point. I see you've corrected a whole bunch of images like this. I'm especially impressed with your description of how you handled [[:File:datingprolif.png]]. I'm not sure I would even have thought of it! -I've happened to notice you're quick on the draw to label "unnecessary" articles with the speedy delete template (and sometimes add the "Deleted Talk" template for talk pages).  The correct process for main articles though is to use the "To Be Discussed" template (and "Talk To Be Discussed" for talk pages).  Even if it's a slow process due to lack of overall wiki activity, it's supposed to give people time to talk and discuss an article's quality and only when most people agree that an article can't be saved, then an admin or a user with mod privileges can delete the article and slap "Deleted Talk" on the talk page.

-::::: I know Catjaz striked this out, but unlike other H*R Wiki projects like the former Featured Articles project that went by a time limit and thus was fine with minimal consensus, article deletions don't have a time limit.  Sure for matters where articles are voted to be moved to a new name or merged into similar articles, users can handle that themselves by redirecting/merging + deleted talk after a sufficient period of time, but there is no hurry to nuke an article voted to be deleted outright (unless it's obvious spam/vandalism).
