While this is true, in this context (that is, names of cities and whatnot), slava actually means slavic. The name for the people is probably derived from words like Czech slovo = word (those who can speak), and the word sláva (and other language versions) meaning fame or glory is derived from it. Yeah, apparently we used to thing a lot about ourselves =) Places that are called -slava mean they are Slavic, not famous.
