Writing "baaj" doesn't clearly indicate /b&#593;&#658;/, any more clearly than /bæd&#658;/ or any of a number of other possible pronunciations. The only way to indicate the pronunciation clearly is by describing it: hence "to rhyme with ''garage''"; and underlining or italics can indicate stress on the last syllable. I see that fun fact as being needlessly pedantic. People interchange the terms garage sale and yard sale all the time. In fact, even the Wikipedia entry the fun fact links to lists yard sale as a synonym for garage sale. Can we get rid of it? The reason this was changed is probably because this would imply that he already said it, even though he wasn't making conversation with anyone. So to fix this plothole they made him say something that would imply he hadn't said it yet instead.
